The stone circle is a small early Bronze Age formation traditionally believed to depict nine ladies turned to stone as a penalty for dancing on Sunday. It is part of a complex of prehistoric circles and standing stones on Stanton Moor.
The stone circle is situated on Stanton Moor, accessed from Lees Road, Stanton in Peak, Youlgreave, Derbyshire, DE4 2LS.
Formal car parking is available just outside of Birchover, about 1.5km from the circle. The What3words location is ///decorator.parsnips.saddens (Grid reference: SK 24113 62460).
Dogs on leads are welcome but must be kept under close control as there may be animals grazing in the area.
Visitors can make a day of it and visit two other nearby prehistoric sites in the care of the area: Arbor Low, a Neolithic henge, and Hob Hurst's House, a burial chamber. Both sites offer beautiful Peak District moorland views.
