Abdulgani Nuur: Good

Destan Atac: The person at the front was genuinely so friendly and willing to answer any questions or queries about the books, events and the bar in general. There are books literally stacked everywhere inside. The interior is slightly small especially downstairs but the atmosphere and coffee definitely make up for it. Definitely recommend a visit at least once.

Maria Ventricelli: Gorgeous shop where staff answer to any questions you might have on books and advise on what to read based on interests and age. Also have lots of events where kids cam meet the authors .

C Romano: One of those amazing little bookshops. I can always find a book for my son here or for a gift. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They also have a loyalty card so we can be gifted from time to time. Arranged story sections are also scheduled for the little ones. A great place to visit!

Amanda Hood: My grandchildren love this shop & the staff are so helpful & knowledgeable

John Bolitho: I have always found them to have a great selection, with some real discoveries, and to be very pleasant and helpful.

Saadia: A quaint little bookshop with many fun books for the kids. Some new and some old classics. We were lucky enough to go to a book signing in December for Julia Donaldson who wrote the Gruffalo books. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is welcoming. I'm so glad these kinds of shops still exist in todays world!

Tobias Cooper: Gorgeous little bookshop, with lovely, and knowledgeable, staff. Were there to meet Laura Ellen Anderson - who was lovely - had a really good time browsing.

KRYSTYNA WLODARCZYK: Super place, very nice and professional service

Heather Jobling: One of the best children's bookshops around. Staff are friendly and well informed. Long may they be there for the young readers of this world!

Danielle Munro: Despite growing up in the area and living close by for 25yrs, I only went in with my 2.5yr old daughter for the first time recently. As luck would have it, it was story time and we loved the animated and talented Barb sharing some lovely books with us: we spent another 40mins there without realising delving deep into their wonderful stock, guided and helped by the great staff. We will be back many times for sure, what a treasure!

Meytal Shaham: Very lovely book store just for kids. They were very helpful and professional when they helped me to choose some books

Alan Newland: Still a gem in north London for anyone wanting information and advice on children's books - even after forty odd years of trading.

Clare Auchterlonie: Excellent service, great collection of first editions and other books by women. Definitely worth checking out their website if you can’t visit in person.

Alice Catarama: One of my favourite book shop in London. Is not only hidden in a locely backyard is like a small paradise with first edition and authors and writers you know well and in 15 m square you you relive dozens of life and feels like Einstein was all right. The owner or librarian is absolutely adorable and feels like you are old friend. And many feminist books, it's subjective but for me count. Don't forget when you go on Soho to find The second shelf. And next door it's a coffee shop to.

Lexi Harvey: Absolutely amazing bookshop who are vocal in their support of important causes. Thank you for being an ally.

Rukaya Cesar: Visited earlier this year, lovely little shop! Definitely worth a visit in the future when you're in the Soho area.

Diziet C: Lovely bookshop, great selection, brilliant staff.

Jeffrey Ingold: I've visited The Second Shelf many times and always find their selection of books truly impressive. The staff are kind, welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. It's also really powerful to see a bookstore champion inclusivity, particularly when it comes to trans people.I wish every bookstore was more like The Second Shelf and I can't wait to be back in the store as soon as possible.

Curt Davey: A brilliant and much needed bookshop.

Sarah Flynn: A real treasure trove of brilliant work by women from across the globe, staffed by enthusiastic and incredibly well informed people who seem to genuinely loving their work. I’ve had been able to find unique gifts for friends, little treats for myself and always something unexpected like this pocket sized beauty. A great place to support whenever I’m in London and really looking forward to be able to shop online with them soon

Test Test: Just a delightful bookshop filled with gems. Wish I could have spent more time there, and can not wait for it to be open again

Michael Lee Richardson: One of the best bookshops in London! Excellent selection, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Love the small press/zine selection, too!

Amy Hughes: This is a gem of a bookshop. Helpful and passionate staff who are enthusiastic about what they do and keep a beautiful collection. Definitely contact them if you're interested in getting recommendations for a special gift, and drop in to browse if you're in the area. One of my favourite bookshops in London!

Meghan Florian: The owner was incredibly welcoming, engaging me in conversation and directing me to books that would suit my interest, including rare volumes she new I couldn't afford but would enjoy looking at, as well as showing me more affordable volumes. My entire experience in the shop was warm and welcoming, in addition to being educational about the field of rare books, and I was able to leave with several books that fit within my limited budget, as well. They really do have something for a wide range of budgets. Truly worth the trip from North Carolina all the way to London! I'm extremely grateful that The Second Shelf exists and will be shopping there anytime I'm lucky enough to be in London, and on the web when their online store launches.

Archive Bookstore: what do users think?

Graham Wilson: First of all, Tim, who was in charge, could not have been more accommodating, and helped me find the music I was looking for. I know the shop is cramped and I am forced to agree with other reviewers that this is part of the shop's charm. At the end of the day, it is a second hand book shop and it is only to be expected that it will be replete with second hand resources. Most customers would be disappointed if it was anything else! I bought five music books and, as well as helping me find them, Tim gave me a substantial discount because I made 'multiple purchases'. This is consistent with the reviewer who pointed out that this is a shop where you have to 'argue up the price'. I am delighted with the service as well as my books and consequently, I will be returning to this shop on a regular basis.

paula: Really enjoyed my visit, it was interesting and I found a great book here

Aaron Walderslade: A helpful and old school established bookshop.

Santiago Santiago: Fabulous choice of secondhand music books and sheet music

Rory Thacker: Helpful staff.

Zach J: An enchanting bookstore with a wide selection of books. The owner Tim is knowledgeable and kind. A truly wonderful store; a lovely gentleman.

Chelsa Jongue: I loveee old weird bookstores. This one felt very cramped, but the range of hardcover collections available there will stun you. Bring along some company.

Rowena Rowley: What an experience, Absolutely wonderful, thank you so much for existing, and also for the tea and biscuits! Next time I’m in London I will be sure to come and find you and bring some biccies!

Em Cheramie: An incredible bookshop with a wide variety of genres. Some really wonderful finds. Best bookstore I've ever been to.

alex: this place is amazing. haphazard and very charming. they've even got a piano downstairs for anyone to play!

Max Hewitt: Awesome secondhand bookshop with amazing variety!

Peter McGlory: A great little book shop. Excellent service, range and coffee shop inside. The range of Admiralty maps was impressive. The staff printed and packed everything professionally.

Laura Farningham: I used to love the old Stanford's, but the new smaller version is good too. Great for the regular travel guides, but perfect for that something a bit different and a map, if you're still partial to a bit of paper.

Jose Vaca: Great service from Matteo.Gzie per darmi una mano cercando il road map!

Basia: Really cool bookshop that specialises in maps and travel books

Jim Reilly: Very cute neighborhood bookstore and coffee shop in Covent Garden.

Ellie Pearson: Love this shop. Great maps and books.

Stefano Orsi: I wore out a great hoodie!

P S: Great map shop with a large selection of travel guides and maps 👍🏻

Philippe Roussel: ALL cards!

Lawrence Smith: Lovely little coffee shop inside with great staff

C M: Calling all conventional travelers who partially still do the research from books and able/ prefer to read manual map instead of GPS, this place is quite heavenly to browse travel books and finding maps for most destinations. I have never seen so many trail and hiking maps of Nepal and the Himalayas as I did today. They have laminated maps and the marine maps as well. I didn’t check if they have topomap and the alike. This is more of a travel oriented bookshop from what I experienced instead of a map collector shop. I didn’t see not Archival site for the collectible but mostly functional maps.It has a coffee shop that was so packed.

Anna Csepanyi: stunningly adorable bookshop with a great selection and amazing atmosphere

Thorsten Morzuch: Nice old book store

Johnny Chong: Great shop.

Ηλίας Λέκκος: Perfect place for bookworms

Yoann Aubron: Fantastic the History is in !

Chris Anderson: My favourite bookstore in London. Fantastic selection with beatiful interior, knowledgeable and helpful staff. The oldest one in London, it feels like you travel back in time. Always a must stop for me!

Nathalie Incera: Wow.

Cassandra Robertson: I could spend my entire life and entire salary in this bookstore.

Oscar Setuain: Bookstores...the usual ones. A pleasure to search and search.

Ben Sheppard: went into the back storeroom to bring out more suggestions. He was infectious with his energy for the books, and then he packed them up for me, walked me onto the street and hailed a cab for me. The type of service you associate with a high-end hotel, not a bookshop.Probably the best bookshop in London!

Louise Oswald: Beautiful bookshop with, despite being off of Piccadilly Circus, a lovely calm environment.

Ari Vine: I had an awful day and thought I’d treat myself to a browse in the shop. I asked for a recommendation, and not only did I end up with three perfect books; but also, whenever I pick the books up, I will be reminded of the patience, kindness, joy, and passion of the staff. You all made my day immeasurably better. Thank you!

Valerie: One of my favourite bookstores in London.

Maria Connor: Lovely old building. Staff are not very helpful although very polite.

NYC Irongirl: Love this place so much. Beautiful book shop and quieter than most others in Central London. Wish it had some places to sit and read but I love coming in here every time I pass by anyway.

Katharina: Hatchards is the oldest bookshop in London. When I'm in the British capital, I have to go to Hatchards in Piccadilly. Because this bookstore is a dream for book lovers - whether Dickens' classics or contemporary literature, you can find everything a bibliophile's heart desires here. You immerse yourself in the world of books and quickly lose track of time. The service is also very attentive and friendly.

Vanesa Stefanova: The atmosphere inside is amazing. This is know to be the oldest bookstore in London. Even if you are now willing to buy any books have a look at this historical place. The prices of the books are also good and they often sell good books with reduced price.

Ahmad AL-awadhi: Thanks Alessiar curi for assisting me 🙌🏽

Klara: We’ve used this bookstore for a few years now. Their non-fiction section is great. And they have a lovely selection of Children’s books as well. I haven’t checked out their fiction section yet, but based on the other two, it’s probably good as well. They will also order anything you need and have it ready for collection within a day or two. Staff have been consistently friendly, and respond promptly to emails. I can highly recommend this shop.

Ellie Cook: Great selection of travel books

Helen Bonar: Great independent book shop

Francesca Bufano: Good selection & friendly staff!

Paola Vivas: Great spot

Costa: .

Big G: Good, neighbourhood book store, but a rather obsessive approach to curation - they seem to have a few favourite authors and then fill shelves up with every book that author has ever written - means that scope for a broader range is crowded out.

John Paul Barjaktarevic: A lot of interesting books, plenty for everyone

Sharleen Kelly: Continues to be my fave bookshop and has been for years. Always come out buying more than intended. The gents working there are super lovely, friendly & always helpful.

Rafik Seddik: There is a small and excellent selection of books in French

Vinny Joe: Made a random visit here while on my lunch break at work. I was recently inspired to buy Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, so I googled book shops nearby. I walked in and asked if they might have what I was looking for, and the guy at the desk pointed me to its exact location, then politely checking if I l had found it.The price was fair, maybe £1 more than amazon, but that's without delivery! The shop was cool and quirky, characterful. Would recommend at least popping in if you're passing and enjoy reading.

Clive Tulloh: There is a small excellent curated selection of French language books.

Victoria: Great little book store with an amazing collection of books.

marc gaya boix: Great place for buying easy reading stuff…

Bader Aujan: place to “invest” your time! Hours goby not noticed.

Sylvia Kersusan: Just wonderful ... just wonderful... Café included

Simon Cooney: location. Stocking most books in all genre's you are likely to find whatever you are looking for. As a space it is easy to get around and is well lit. My only quibble is that the stationary dept and Rays Jazz outlet seem to have got smaller and feel like they are on borrowed time. Hence 4 stars not 5.

Housmans Bookshop: what do users think?

Manasi Elise Tomy: It has a large and diverse collection of books as well as small postcards, super feminist and queer badges/pins etc. I just LOVE their book collection - so much thought has gone into curating it. If you want to get something for your child/nibling/random kid in your life, have a huge reading list for college, are beginning to educate yourself about a history or political movement or have a literature loving friend you need to gift, this is your place to go.Staff are always pleasant and ALWAYS willing to help you

J Valore: Great place and very friendly staff.

Nawal Alkabkabi: It was really good bookshop. The stuff are so helpful.

Andi Fugard: One of my favourite bookshops in London covering a range of political and philosophical genres and with poetry in the basement

Nicola Fisher: No other bookshop needed

Jason Phillips: Magnificent independent bookshop . I love going there. It's role in social history and activism is amazing too.
