This week we have a Tasting Counter Takeover, wherein we'll talk you through some of the wines we have open to taste, the theme being 'Drink Better for Less'. We should all do that. Joseph Newman: bar with ‘wine flights’ and ‘gin flights’ available on a walk in basis, and special ‘experiences’ upon booking too. They have some really great good boards too, which are quite filling and a good portion. The value is a bit hit as miss, but the venue is exhaustive and has all the prices on. Service is great. They don’t accept Amex just FYI. Definitely recommend a visit here.
SR: We booked here on a personal recommendation for our weekend away in York and definitely weren't disappointed. We shared the Deli board for 2. I'm really not a wine drinker but I wasn't made to feel silly for not liking wine, or subjected to "oh but you MUST try this one I KNOW you're going to like it" as I sometimes am in other places! The deli board was gorgeous and great quality, and we were stuffed afterwards.The service was really friendly and prompt. We were sat at a little bench/bar seat, and my only criticism is that I didn't feel this was really big enough for the 4 people that were sat at it, we felt squished in by the other party of 2.Otherwise a fab experience, maybe our favourite food from the whole weekend!
Michelle Morgan: Beautiful wine selection, coupled with gorgeous cheeses on the centre of York.We had a lovely, lazy lunch with Pairings. Ordering four types of wine, cheese, a pork pie and dessert.The atmosphere is buzzy and lovely. Staff were knowledgeable and welcoming.I’d recommend asking for a table near the front of the restaurant as the back is windowless and without natural light.

Steven Barowik: I visited for the second time in a couple of weeks and was noticed by one of the staff who gave me a lovely welcome.The first time I acquired some of the high class Sam Smith Chocolate Stout for my darling for Valentine's, it was gleefully received.The second time I treat myself to a nice bottle of Chateau de Montifaud XO Silver. I also had a pork pie and we have a nice looking pear and frangipane tart for afters this evening.The choice of wines and Scotch is very impressive and extensive. There were good port and cognac choices as well.This is really worth a stop off if you are on the A64.Great staff, great products, what's not to like!

We didn't have anything particular in mind but Michelle greeted us with such warmth we instantly felt in paradise with all round the world of wine, whisky and amazing spirits. Preserves,pies, salads and the most delicious breads enchanted our eyes. Needless to say we came out with our arms full and we will be back soon. Sensational place. Must be visited.

It feels totally unnecessary to be using single use plastic packaging to ship wine in 2022. Will no longer shop online with these guys until they find a more sustainable way of packaging their product.

Christopher Nash: Well, well, well....how do I describe this bar ...Quirky, European feel .....are the first words that spring to mind…..it’s in my view a unique York Bar…and for those that follow me....you'll know I am not normally short on words....so bear with me ...here goes...atmosphere a very easy five star....it's got local regulars 'in the know' and savvy switched on tourists...it just feels so laid back...nice selection of Belgium and German beers,...the hosts are very nice, friendly and informative ….well worth a visit….can get very busy indeed….I hope this helps ...👍💯👍
