Ahoy there! Avast and belay! The good ship Maj York sails ever onwards towards the Island of fine wine and cheery banter that is Foss. Splicing the mainbrace and trimming the mainsail this week are the usual crew of doughty seadogs, with the exception of midshipman Lewis, who's off in the Schwarzewalde hunting for wurst and bier. Anyhow, it's an Italian-themed Tasting Counter Takeover this week, where we'll be opening some favourites old and new, and if you'd like to pop down to the poopdeck between the times below, we'll endeavour to talk you through them and illicit your estimable opinions:

This week we have a Tasting Counter Takeover, wherein we'll talk you through some of the wines we have open to taste, the theme being 'Drink Better for Less'. We should all do that. So if you aren't dry January-ing, pop along at 6pm Thursday 12th, 6pm Friday 13th (yikes!) or 5pm Saturday 14th, and we'll regale you with our (ahem) knowledge.
Just a brief salvo from maj York HQ to let you know that we're off duty tomorrow, and will all be at home by our respective firesides with a glass of something revivifying, and very probably a pie of some sort (we're keen on pies down here by the redoubtable Foss, as you all know).
So, we're closed on New Years Day, and open Bank Holiday Monday 10-5.
Then it's business as usual for the remainder of January. Don't worry, we'll see you through the most miserable of the months.

Steven Barowik: I visited for the second time in a couple of weeks and was noticed by one of the staff who gave me a lovely welcome.The first time I acquired some of the high class Sam Smith Chocolate Stout for my darling for Valentine's, it was gleefully received.The second time I treat myself to a nice bottle of Chateau de Montifaud XO Silver. I also had a pork pie and we have a nice looking pear and frangipane tart for afters this evening.The choice of wines and Scotch is very impressive and extensive. There were good port and cognac choices as well.This is really worth a stop off if you are on the A64.Great staff, great products, what's not to like!

We didn't have anything particular in mind but Michelle greeted us with such warmth we instantly felt in paradise with all round the world of wine, whisky and amazing spirits. Preserves,pies, salads and the most delicious breads enchanted our eyes. Needless to say we came out with our arms full and we will be back soon. Sensational place. Must be visited.

It feels totally unnecessary to be using single use plastic packaging to ship wine in 2022.
