Strensall Rifle Range: what do users think?

TECKERZ LTD: Very helpful staff

Dean2039: Was great but need heaters in the shelters

John Ferrier Rice: I today visited and walked around the Strensall Rifle Range. The Strensall Rifle Range is situated within the Strensall Military Training Area and is situated behind the Queen Elizabeth Barracks Strensall. To get to the Ranges you need to get to the village of Strensall which is 4 miles north of York.Go past the Six Bells pub at the mini roundabout in Strensall. The road you need to be on is signposted for Flaxton. You have gone too far and missed the correct turn if you reach the Golf Club.On the road to Flaxton on the right hand side just outside of Strensall, you will see a lane to drive into.It has an MOD sign at the entrance to the lane.Turn right onto this lane.At the Giveway sign turn right. The car park is on the left hand side. There are information boards and maps detailing the Strensall Training Area at the car park.Walk onto the road and walk straight on.Go through the wooden gate past the cattle grid and follow the road as it corners to the left. Before you get to the Cottage and the LandMarc site on the right hand side you will see a gate.Go through this gate and follow the path lying between the Queen Elizabeth Barracks Strensall and the Strensall Rifle Ranges. As you walk along this path you will see a gate on your left.Go through this gate and that is you on the Strensall Ranges.Warning number 1:You can only enter the Ranges when the red flags are down and/or no red lights are on.If the red flags are flying and/or the red lights are on YOU CANNOT enter the Ranges as live firing is taking place. If there is live firing taking place the access gate at the Cottage is locked. You can also hear the live firing taking place at the Ranges. There is an information board at the side of the road before you get to the cattle grid detailing the live firing days and times for the week.It also details the days that dry training is taking place. The information board also gives you the telephone number of Range Control and the Range Officer. If in doubt about access to the Strensall Rifle Range phone these numbers. But note that the lines are only manned when live firing is taking.Once on the Range there is a road to walk along. It runs from the Range Control building at Range A all the way to Range F.There are six ranges at the Strensall Rifle Range A to F.The road is part of the Strensall Military Training Area Permissive Rural Walks and the public can walk along this road when no live firing is taking place.Note: The public are not allowed on the Range areas themselves. The permissive rural walks road runs between the shooting bays near the front of the Ranges and the shooting bays at a further distance at the back of the Ranges.I entered the Strensall Rifle Ranges today at about 2pm and left at 5pm.Warning number 2:Watch out for adders!I encountered two adders today. One within the Range area itself and one on the road on which the Cottage lies. The adders are more frightened of you than you should be of them.If you wait for a while they will move on into the undergrowth. The adders come out when it is hot and sunny. If it gets cold later in the day the adders sometimes cannot move so fast.Do not pick them up!The adders are more of a danger to small dogs that rummage through the undergrowth than humans. My walk today around the Strensall Rifle Range was a most enjoyable experience.I would recommend a visit to the Strensall Rifle Range.I am going back to visit the Strensall Training Area on Saturday 21st May.

George Toone: I'd like to thank the C.Q for very pleasant weather he issued us.

Big D: Awesome range, awesome place, very very welcoming.

Robin Ardis: Great

James Mason: Banging.

Jamie Russell: The mole hills are massive and the toilets are expansive!

Park Lodge Shooting School and Spa: what do users think?

Steve Oconnell: Great variation of clays, with a cafe and shop on site. The road is a little bumpy, so go steady, but overall, it's a really good experience

Leeroy: A really nice place. You can shoot for a cheaper price per clay but you don’t get the facilities that Park Lodge has to offer.Well kept ground and a good range of layouts including some monster towers!I shoot all over for variety but when we have guests this is the place I take them.

Zimbo Robi: Great place!! Couldn't have asked for more. Cafe although a little expensive was very nice! The place is well kept. Staff are very helpful and accommodating.

Fantasy World: Great place. Plenty of spots to shoot from and a variety of different launch machines for the clays. Highly recommend 👌

Wayne Walker: Having been clay pigeon shooting several times over the years I’ve finally decided to make it a regular occurrence and found park lodge. Love the place. Friendly staff and great traps. Changed regularly so always something different. The food is also great. Off the beaten track but don’t let that put you off. Check it out.

Barbara Roper: Wet but good👌

Anthony Chambers: Great day out, lots of shooting ranges and the cafe does some great food

Mikey BENTLEY 1: Something for everyone, all levels of clay shooters are catered for, shoot, shop, dine, what more could you want.

Richard Cranswick: Haven't been for a number of years but a very enjoyable afternoon. Facilities are great. Staff are friendly.

Jeremy Wilson: and I don't care what the weather is I always enjoy it, every kind of clay shooting imaginable

Graham Bedford: + Plenty of choice of stands+ booked an instructor who was really great and accomodating. Non shooters were hitting clays first time.+ booked a room for the day very clean tidy and with tea and coffee provided.+ cafe food excellent- Slight negative the WiFi for the room we booked was a little bit flakey.

Andy Woolass: Great place to shoot, very nice clean and tidy, on site gun shop has everything you could need, plenty of different clays to have a go at, I actually had my first date with my partner here, only down side is the 9-5 opening hours makes it pretty much impossible for anyone with a job to go shoot without taking a day off, I would of expected later opening during the summer for them after work shoots, I spend a fortune on shooting every year and missing out at park lodge due to to opening hours

family life: Great place , lovely modern building with a good cafe , great location and friendly staff

Hazel Bank Shooting Ground: what do users think?

Joe Barber: First time at Hazel Bank , its within a 45 minute drive for me and as another local shoot was cancelled today we tried this venue out . We were all happy with the variety of targets and the price! and will definatley be making more regular visits . Thanks!

Adlene Izzarina: This is our first time shooting and it was a fantastic experience. Our instructor Ollie was very thorough and he did an excellent job guiding us. Would recommend!

Alex Gill: Booked with some friends to have a go. It was my first time and my friends had done it once before. We had a 3pm slot, arrived 10min early and went into the clubhouse to let them know we were here and found that our instructor Graham was all ready and waiting for us! So we went straight out. He gave us a quick safety briefing and then it was straight into it. Graham was an excellent chap, very informative and easy to get along with. He was quick to point out where we could improve and he was spot on with his advise. We all had a great time and it's something I'd definitely do again. Highly recommend this place.

Adrian Smith: We had a great time as a family for an hour shooting air rifles and shoot guns.Very accommodating, will be returning soon.

Andrew Bremner: Friendly and professional operation, highly recommended.

Liam Noble: Had a great first time shooting here. The instructor was exceptionally friendly and a real gent. Would love to come back here again and shoot some more.

J. Hruby: 3 of us had a great day with Ollie working on high pheasant and grouse targets. Nice facility and very enjoyable.

Andy G: Top marks, always a great shoot and always on our schedule .

Tristan Cross: Missed the majority of the players but had a brilliant time fantastic tuition and just all out a great experience for the money I found it to be very open and not just targeting one audience. The person we had was absolutely amazing. He took us around everywhere and so does what other people were doing. Had a talk with some other people and all out. Had a brilliant experience in a good day out.I would recommend this to anybody and everybody, and hopefully will be returning for a more successful adventure hopefullyLike I said, didn’t make my shots that well, but still had a fun fun time would recommend!

Nik Simpson: Had a lesson today with my wife. It was her 1st time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our instructor Patrick was brilliant helped me with my lead issues. Overall a very friendly welcoming ground can't wait to go back.

gary gubby: I booked a 100 clay, 2 hour session with an instructor to try and improve my terrible shooting, on arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming, Mark spent some time with me and had a look at my gun and gave me tips on cleaning and greasing before I met my instructor, the instructor spent some time with me looking at my stance, how I hold my gun and trying to work out where I was going wrong, he was very knowledgable, patient and friendly and within no time I was hitting clays, I learnt more today than I have since I started shooting 6 months ago, I came away buzzing with how I had improved in such a short space of time, will be going back next week to put into practice what I have learnt today, top marks to the ground and all the staff 10/10, thank you.

Harrison Woodall: Superb morning for our first shooting experience with Graham our instructor. We both had low expectations of ourselves but with Graham’s knowledge and encouragement we were soon shooting the targets!Great place, definitely recommend.Thank youSteph & Tim
