Oxfam: what do users think?
Hannah Sewell: I bought my wedding dress from here. They had a huge stock of modern dresses some of which were donated from designer shops unworn. The second hand ones were all in fantastic condition. They did also have some retro dresses. They had all kinds of accessories and shoes to try on with them and the volunteer helping us was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable about all the dresses. There was a little aisle to wander down and me and my friends had a little dance to make sure the dresses were comfortable. I had better time here than at the designer shop I went to. I think I tried on 8 dresses but I had huge rail to look through. They also let me reserve the dress for 28 days after while I thought about it. Overall 10/10 and I've recommended it to other friends getting married.
Lee Toone: Nice charity shop with good finds to be had.
Susan Casey: I just had to say a massive Thank you to the amazingly, wonderful staff at the Goodramgate shop. I popped in today and although they were amazingly busy they went above and beyond to help me find the perfect pair of gorgeous boots. Nothing was too much trouble, I’ve never had private shoppers until now! Thank you so much!
lewisner: Pretty cool shop. They seem to get a lot of very nice paintings in, worth checking regularly.
allan claydon: Great oxfam shop really lovely team working with a good range of books and bric brack
miss nat charlton: OK charity shopNot much room to moveVery expensiveCustomer service could be betterBut grate quality items
keiran gordon: Great service and Good staff and lot of items to look at and i recommend
Kate B: Great charity shop.
Explore With Son & Me: Bit of a bigger charity shop, with some better stock compared to the others
michael glowala: Excellent charity shop worth a browse. Plenty of choice to suit all tastes and ages.Bargains aplenty. Some gems available if you shop at the right time - I found and bought a 1950's train set in its box - amazing. Helpful and friendly staff.
Sam Walker: Huge store, nice book selection although clothing for men in limited and quite pricey
iakob hobler: It's okay!!!
Mark Knowles: Good sized shop with a bit of everything; clothes, books, confectionary and household consumables. Good place to pick up alternative brands, and slogans on cards.
Heather Crawford: A really nice charity shop to volunteer in. Friendly and helpful staff and a decent range of books, cds and clothing, including wedding dresses.
ICC Hine: Bridal boutique (above main shop) exceeded expectation. Akin to a regular wedding dress shop. Lots of choice, varying prices (some high end). Mirrors, spacious changing area, lots of natural light. Definitely worth travelling to. (Totally different ballgame to e.g. Bridal stuff at Bradford Oxfam, which would not be worth travelling to.)

Josh G: Welcoming store with an expansive collection of all kinds of vintage clothing; staff were friendly and helpful.
Beth Fenton: Best vintage shop in York / the North? Such a hidden gem and has an amazing women’s selection, also the owner Nic is wonderful and clearly really cares about what he does.
allan claydon: Fantastic vintage shop! Brilliant mens department which is usually a complete rarity but really solid well organised range of clothingEverything seems really fairly priced which is also unusual for a vintage spot for example £28 for a pair of stunning vintage 1980s corduroys in great nickThe staff were really lovely and helpful too, I would definitely recommend a visit!
Alexander: Good selection of brands - also designer items can be found. Pricing is okay. Would recommend.
Jo Mcvey: Lovely shop ladies bit was closed for refurbishment and new stock but worth a visit
Chris Law: Loved the place some incredible clothes

Luke Denhart: A godsend during my uni days. Always regularly restocked with unique and top quality goods. Always reasonably priced. Always well-maintained decor. Always an approachable and friendly staff member ready to help you with any queries you may have. I spent many of my hundreds of pounds here in my student days and even back on that budget I don’t regret a single penny. Cannot recommend enough!
Sebastian Squires: Great place, large selection of vintage clothing
Craig Peacock: Great
Maria Strani: Beautiful collection of vintage clothes, in great condition and average prices. The store was perfectly organised, the shopkeeper very helpful and the music was great, will def visit again!
Tom Cunningham: A large spotlessly clean vintage shop located on two floors with an extensive stock and large range of mainly clothes. On our visit the staff member was friendly and clearly taking great pride in the preparation and presentation of new stock she was dealing with. It was good to be able to identify old or reproduction by the label. A great shop that is well worth a visit. 😁👍

Oxfam Bookshop: what do users think?
Lee Passmore: Great selection of books, including graphic novels, and all genres such as fiction, but the shop contains more non fiction which is what I like. The shop is not that big and I feel it should have been bigger, for the sheer number of customers that goes in. Overall a great used bookshop and great value too.
Alvo von Cossel: Great place with a huge variety, including good stuff in foreign languages.
Steve Bamlett: York has two Oxfam bookshops. Very good. Usually find something but not today unfortunately.
sharon holmes: York Mickleham really helpful lady behind the counter
Berglas71: Some great books here at great prices and your helping a Charity as well.
Dan: Like the shop, went in for CDs, bought some but not everything I wanted because they are very very expensive ! So if you go in and want something be ready to pay for it.
Luke Charles: Great bookshop. Big range of books. Friend staff.
Beth Ansell: Good stock for a small shop.
Hamish Connor MacLeod: Brilliant selection of books of all ranges & subjects to choose from at really god prices, always good dvd's & cd's to choose from & it all goes to a god cause
Andy: Fantastic collection of books, really good range of classics at very good prices.
Raffaele: Great quality used goods (books, CDs, DVDs, sheet music) and very friendly staff!
Justin Perry: Excellent quality stock.
Mark Knowles: Best price for books in York, most in brand new quality, don't be put off thinking their all old and scruffy. Something for every reader in there.
Gavin Whenman: Well stocked charity bookshop with a wide selection of titles and plenty of bargains to be found.
James Harrison: Brilliant place to get cheap, old books
Sunrunner Nge: Great stock but found prices as little high end for a charity shop

The Vintage store: what do users think?
m.: No quality control, music is ridiculously loud and uncensored. So loud that it's the only shop you can hear in york. A joke to the vintage world and i'm glad it's closed down. Prices through the roof for junk, any genuine vintage buyer avoids this place because they know they're just as bad as fast fashion chains. You've responded horribly to past negative comments blaming them for fast fashion doing better than vintage? But you bulk buy stained rubbish and stick a £90 label on it. How are you any better than a fast fashion chain? where's all this stuff you've bought going to go now?
Lynsey Wood: A charity shop without the good intention of putting money into a worthy cause. £45 for a secondhand jumper? Think I'll stick to Oxfam!
Tracie Fawcett: Dirty
Alexander: Good vintage store with a nice selection of items from variety of brands for both - men and women. Would recommend!
Carol “Dora5”: Great concept and it drew me into the store. From there on not impressed at all. Huge swear words on wall, music loud , expensive overpriced clothing that's either bobbled or unclean.Much better clothing to be had in charity shops that are also helping the environment and going to a good cause.
Two Guys Talk Shite: By far the best company for vintage clothing. The ethics in how they manage their business is amazing.
michael smith: £100 mystery box very disappointing
Ej: A great day out in the central of York, i had come across this vintage company on Tik Tok and I was excited that one of their stores were in York. The experience was amazing, I liked the loud music and the clothes were fairly priced but you have to be a bit careful at the conditions of the clothings as I came across a Champion and nfl t-shirt which had a small hole at the back but not noticeable. The staff were nice and overall I’d recommend this store to others.
TIMBARNES: Friendly enough staff, but falls into the trap of most newer vintage shops. It is not justifiable to charge £45 for a second hand sweater with an American University on it.I've honestly been to most vintage shops in the UK and the prices do not reflect the quality or brand value.A stained item is not uniquely querky, it's dirty. Literally tons of clothes are bought from America at about £2 a peice, usually based on weight and resold at a premium. I understand that it is a big shop in the centre of York, but you might as well go to DePop or Tokyo Laundry. It's not worth it.I struggle to see how the business is sustainable, given the outrageous mark up on the clothes. I'd give it a year.
Richard B: Overpriced clothes with stains you wouldn't want to be seen out in public with. £18 for used Ralph Lauren Polo with what looked like coffee dribble or paint. These must be the clothes that have rejected by other shops and most would be better just going to charity. Other retro type shops seem a league above this one.
Laila T: Good selection and prices not bad
Lee Peterson: Prices are ok but the ones we wanted were already stained.
Glenn White: Smells funny
Anne Huber: They have a great selection. It's really amazing to see a vintage shop on a high street. Thank you for that!! Staff was very friendly!I read loads of comments about the prices being too high but they really have just normal vintage shop prices (which aren't charity shop prices).
Liam Parker: So nice to have somewhere to buy designer stuff second hand! Normally, if I want to buy something second hand, it’s charity shops or online but The Vintage Store is a nice alternative. It’s especially good if you want something specific as you’ll likely find it. If you like designer pieces, it’s definitely for you as there is such a range of choice from Ralph Lauren to Tommy Hilfiger and so much more! Some of the pieces are overpriced considering that they are second hand and often very worn but a lot of it is super reasonable!
Peter Anderson: Crude swearing on large signs within the shop - totally inappropriate
Nathan Daniels: Decent pub by the river. Good beer and decent prices. Had to get cash though!😂
Elaine Watson: Great idea, bought t shirts for my teenage boys that I would have worn in the 80's
MidnightPicasso: Bit too pricey in comparison to other vintage stores I’ve visited elsewhere (but I understand why the prices are like it)However there was music blasting that really isn’t good to those with sound sensitivity (I’m not a local so don’t know if there are ‘friendly hours’ to shop for disabilities) so did start to feel uncomfortable from the noise.I also got the impression from the staff that I wasn’t welcome there as I felt like I was being followed around the store.I didn’t buy anything in the end, I got shouted at by staff when leaving. No idea what was said, but that happening on top of everything else upset me for the rest of the day.Would not recommend at all simply because of how I felt walking around as well as the music being so loud.
Jack: Overpriced for used fashion, the staff are friendly. Warning the music is incredibly loud, and rude signs/advertisement are dotted around the store.

Oxfam Bookshop: what do users think?
allan claydon: Good used bookshop!
Mahatma Gandhi: Excellent source of eclectic and interesting books, bright and cosy lay out, lovely stop for all kinds of tastes.Essentially one half of a larger Oxfam book shop in York, with the other 'wing' down Micklegate.
Explore With Son & Me: Ridiculous prices, £3-4 for second hand old kids picture books. I can get them second hand on Amazon with free delivery for £2.
Nienke van den Hoek: Lovely little shop with great selection of books. Friendly staff as well
Rebecca East: Lovely selection of books but everyone was about £1 too expensive for a charity shop
Luke Charles: Nice bookshop with a decent selection.
vikki raine: Packed full of books at reasonable prices. Friendly staff.
Tom Hirst: Good selection of books :)
jason wilson: Great selection of books, was able to bag two Terry Pratchett's books. Quite a bit more expensive than the two I got in Sheffield Oxfam, but still goes to charity
Nick Smith: Great secondhand bookshop. Especially for literature, history and travel books. Also has a good local section.

Barnardo's York: what do users think?
Miss R: One particular lady always makes it an unpleasant experience whenever we go in. Always rude and unhelpful & so unorganised.go to the other ones! Far better
Tricia Ray: Fantastic shop full of surprises. Some great clothes too, often brand new. Can't believe people actually make returns to a charity shop and ask for a refund! Its a charity shop for goodness sake, the people working in there are giving their time free of charge and the best way to support them and the cause, is to buy items. If we change our mind, why not just donate it back? Have a post Christmas sort out and take it to Barnardo's if you can!
Miss Palmer: Never anyone on the shop floor. Took a refund in which I did feel bad about, but to have the manager sigh at me and walk away and have a volunteer laugh at me was not pleasant! They made me feel terrible and id explained to them I'd tried to find something for an exchange and I apologised for having to make them do a refund! Sort your customer service out!
Jenette Snelgrove: Lovely shop with great items beautiful prom dresses at the moment. They even have a few wedding dresses you just need to ask
