Eagle & Child: what do users think?
Udayan Dutt: Amazing food, warm and prompt service, a wonderful, dog friendly pub one can visit in York.
Jamie Cowling: A really nice pub with a very good selection of ales on tap. It’s an old building but the decor is contemporary. My pint was well kept and the service was friendly and efficient.Great place to pop into if you’re heading to the Minster.
Jean-Jacques Coets: Excellente cuisine! Une des meilleure pendant notre séjour. Très bon service aussi. Addition sous contrôle pour 4 entrées, 6 plats, les apéros et les boissons: 176£ Attention, cartes maestro pas acceptées.
DianeM: Excellent Jazz band and great beer. Fabulous night
Paul Dunn: Great pub with loads of beers in good condition. Bar staff were very helpful and polite
Susan: Pub and staff nice. Food pretty average and so not great value for money.
Anne Dunn: Great range of beers and good food.
Trevor Clements: I may have had bad luck but my steak and ale pie contained only 2 pieces of meat one of which would have more suited the canine palate! Disappointing because gravy and pastry were great. On the bright side, the service was good and it was a nice place to eat.
Barbara Bowen: Nice friendly pub with a great choice of ales and drinks.
Daniel Moloney: Really friendly staff; good range of fine ales and beers and the food was excellent at a fair price. Really loved it and will go back again.
Ellie Hughes: Great pub to drink at, lovely cosy atmosphere and plenty of places to sit. Great selection of draught ales, gin, and wine. Staff very friendly and helpful.Went for Sunday lunch. The starters were incredible (‘nduja mussels and beef cheek bonbons) with well balanced flavours. The Sunday lunch itself was disappointing in parts. The pork belly was cooked well, the crackling was perfect, and the Yorkshire had great texture, but it let itself down through a lack of seasoning.Plates were warned as “hot” but were closer to lukewarm. Some really lovely bits about this town pub, and we’ll definitely be back again. Just not 5 stars due to the bland main food.
Chris Lyons: Awful service. Turned up in a group of 8, were told that there was no seating available. Function rooms upstairs were out of bounds as was the dining area, which was completely empty.Update after owner's response on 20th April. Thank you for your reply. I was unaware of the sign on the upstairs door, thank you for clarifying. But I would also like to clarify a few things. We were not offered "alternative options" and as for finding "adequate seating", we had to gather a collection of stools and sit in the middle of the pub without a table. All of this when the dining area was empty as shown in the photograph.
Mc Dog: Go in here regularly at lunchtime, usually get the fish goujons and hand cut chips. They are delicious!!Staff always lovely as well. Highly recommended 👌
Esther Maughan: Nice chill pub with lovely food
Alexandra B-T: Nice atmosphere with plenty of.choice for beers and on cask too.
Stuart Lloyd: Great food and relaxed atmosphere
Evonne Flisch: Great atmosphere and good range of craft beers. Can also recommend the chips!
Bruce Outram: Food was great staff friendly enjoyed the experience
Tom Fisher: Traditional English pub, attentive and helpful staff. Good quality food. Jazz evening during the week.
Peter Wrightson: Excellent pub, great choice of beers staff are lovely and the layout is great.
Collette Willetts: Sunday lunch very disappointing the roast potatoes you couldn’t even put a fork into it so hard beef very tough possibly one of the worst Sunday lunches in a very long time which was a shame as it was for a birthday mealService in restaurant was very goodbar service staff very rude

Minster Inn: what do users think?
Karen Boardman: Excellent as always. Attentive, friendly staff, fantastic beer and great food!
Gerry Comber: We don't normally visit the same place twice but for Minster Inn we made an exception! Superb pizza, excellent welcoming service. We'll be back !
David Brooks: One of Yorks great pubs.Dog friendlyGreat service and friendly staffInteresting rooms and a well varied and priced menu
sahitya: a good place for a drink beyond the York Wall, perfect for relaxed conversations and unwinding after a long day. Doesn't really have a partying vibe.
sparsh sharma: Highly recommended, hidden gem beyond the city wall.
Mary Wellings: Great sunday deal - pizzas lovely service great and love the little outdoor space
Asher Thomas: A well managed local pub, excellent food, (good pizza menu) Limited drinking area for those who don't book ahead so definitely ring in advance for a table. They do reserve a lot of tables & give you advance notice of when reservation come in. Has outdoor seating with heaters. Hygienic amenities. The only downside is it's usually very crowded!
William Schofield: It's a bit of a hidden gem , those who know about it , know about it!Despite looking small , it's roomy , there is also a yard/garden which is great , good selection of ales too.
Gary Woollam: Good pizza.. 2 for 1 on a Sunday
keith fox: Good beer ,clean and wellrun
James Ascott: A Good few of us Altrincham FC lads turned up here and albeit a tad shocked at first, this place was very welcoming! The staff and Bossman were brilliant! Will be calling again when next in the area. (With family and less noise). Thanks again.👌👌🤟
Steve Crawford: Fantastic pub just up.from.the river.. excellent pizza and helpful staff. Take the time to walk from the main busy centre fora change
Stewart Hope: Excellent beer and pizza. Will definitely return.
Joseph Brookshaw: Nice food,friendly atmosphere
colin hazeldine: Great pub hard to find if you don't know it's there stumbled across it and what a find great covered beer garden at the rear
Tim Ashurst: Lovely pub, friendly and helpful staff, good choice of beers and great pizza. Nice mix of locals and tourists. Would happily go back
Jeffrey Ford: Great pub not 5 minutes walk from my house! Always welcoming and some nice beers
Zoe Smith: Very small and not many seats if you're only wanting a drink. However, good atmosphere, friendly staff, decent selection of gins and ales, and the food smelt amazing....I wish we'd been eating here.
Shareen Mason: Visited York for a few days and we decided to stop in here for pizza. Didn't book but the lovely guy at the bar gave us a table. He was really attentive to us and the food was just excellent. Was great to have such a lovely choice of vegan options for a pizza and a brilliant price. Would 100% recommend
John Roberts: We were welcomed by the landlord, who assisted in getting my mobility scooter inside the building. He then showed us to our table and we didn't need to move after that. Everything was brought to us! The beer was just sensational. I elected to have the landlord's recommendation, which was so fruity and just delicious. The pizza was quite simply the best pizza since the Amalfi Coast. So thin topped with lashings of tomato sauce and very well topped with delicious ingredients. What a house, if you are in York, take the 5 minute walk outside of walls.....you will not be disappointed.Thank you for a wonderful experience
Damian Sweeney: Beautiful traditional pub, oozing character with multiple small rooms.Real fire going on our visit, which was lovely.Staff friendly and very welcoming.Five real ales available on our visit. If you doing the walk of the City walls, this little gem is ideally situated on the walking section between the walls.Heated outside beer garden with an outside TVFood available, but we called in just for drinks on this occasion, so cannot comment on the fayre.Well worth a stop, definitely recommend a visit.

Cross Keys Of York: what do users think?
Sue Davies: Warm and friendly. Great food good prices
Steven schools: Looked like it could have been a nice pub, but the Friday night I attended the bar was about 80% covered in used glasses, with more on the tables around the bar. Looked like it would get like this fast if midly busy due to small dishwasher. This may have been a one off as I said.
Nicky: We went here for dinner yesterday with three adults and one child. Short staffed but good service regardless and amazing food. We were very impressed and the price was fair. Alot of entertainment throughout the week and includes a child and senior menu
Steffen Henrich: Essen mit App bestellen. Sehr zentral und gutes essen im originaler Pup Atmosphäre.
John Neale: Loved it
michael mccarthy: Service was a bit slow but a good local pub
vicki: Would have given 0 stars but not an option! What an absolute dive! Females so drunk or whatever they are on, falling allover the place! the dess code seems to be work clothes or trainers and leggings... way overpriced for the type of bar it is, karaoke was laughable ..never again clearly a chav pub!
Kelly McMillan: Stopped by on Monday evening for a spot of food after a busy day sightseeingI’ve seen this pub in the past and always thought it looked like a nice pub. I am so glad we decided to call in!Parking at the rear was plentiful & easily accessibleWelcomed warmly by the bar staff - it was great to see that dogs are welcome in the place as wellWe are a family of three and found plenty of choices for the food. Staff happily accommodated a couple of small “tweaks” to the meals like jacket instead of chips etc. They can pour Guinness correctly!😁 Been a fair while since I’ve seen bar staff let Guinness stand before topping it up the way it ought to be be.That was the first tell we’d found a gemThe food was ample and delicious! It’s been a long time since I enjoyed pub food so much!Next time we’re in York we’ll be calling back in!Only small fault I can find is that there was no check back on the meals. In our case everything was perfect so not an issue for us.Thank you for a pleasant meal that concluded a wonderful day in York!
Anne Saltmer: Had a brilliant Sunday lunch the place is clean the staff are helpful and friendly and definitely recommend
Ria Colman: Nice lively pub

Staff were friendly and worked hard. It is a dog friendly pub and there is a nice outside sunny terrace with tables.York City Centre took about 35 mins to walk into from the pub, it is on a bus route but we got a taxi back . Thankyou
Barry King: Reserved a table which then disappeared when we came to eat. Had to go somewhere else.
Karen Williams: Nice place for few drinks

Shotgun tim: A great pint of valhalla pale ale or maybe 3 😁
Bradley Haworth: A superb experience when in York. We consistently visit whilst in York. Friendly atmosphere & staff. The ale on offer is great, try grab yourself an "Odins Judgement". Strong yet tasty!
Stuart Calvert: Loved the theme and the strange different beers available.I understand York is expensive but beer prices were extreme I think. But worth the experience.Staff great, thank you.

Krzysiek: Super bar, cool design, atmosphere. Friendly staff
Tracey Higginbottom: Great pub lots of great beers to try
Josephine Mylchreest: Brilliant music and atmosphere
Artur Kortas: Lovely place. Good food. Surprisingly broad range of mead on the menu. Think I also got to drink there a nice glass of strong stout, but my memory of it is quite foggy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even when we started dancing on tables (nice solid oak I think?) and launching viking helmets through windows they politely asked us to evacuate instead of chopping our drunken lot with axes.
David McLuckie: Very atmospheric Norse themed pub.
Green Rocker: Bit quiet when we arrived mid afternoon, but soon filled up , decent pub with good selection of beers, lots of wooden beams around the place making it look olde worlde, but not sure how old it is,, nice Viking theme !! Skulls and wooden shield on the walls,,Tiny shared toilet facilities, so if you're a bit shy it may not be for you,, but everyone in pub was friendly enough,, Great Heavy Rock Music also helped the atmosphere,, Nice hour spent,,, Cheers.
Nikos: Amazing atmosphere
Kath Bassett: Great place -- good beer selection and amazing food, especially wings and cheese board.
rich cooper: Darkened drinking hall playing rock music on our visit, good beer , excellent decor for the name and worth a visit!!
Tom Reed: Fantastic bar for any viking / rock / metal fan. Great music, delicious food (although limited conpared to other places, see menu) it's a really good place to have a pint !!!!
Womble McWomble: Nice pub, very committed to the Viking theme, good beer, friendly staff and decent tunes
Sean McMullan: Fantastic I couldn't fault it, took me over an hour to find but nonetheless its just Fantastic great choices of beers, ale and mead and very nice food, the staff were friendly and helpful
Peter Banks: A Remarkable Visit to Valhalla York⭐️ 5/5 starsReview by Peter, Monika, and WeronikaOur visit to Valhalla York was an unforgettable experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. As a family with a strong interest in Asatru, we were delighted to find such an incredible, immersive environment celebrating Norse culture and mythology. The selection of mead available at Valhalla was truly impressive, offering a wide range of unique and flavorful options. We also appreciated the diverse array of ales, ensuring that there was something for everyone to enjoy.Although the food menu was somewhat limited, the dishes we tried were delicious and well-prepared, perfectly complementing our beverage selections. The quality of the food made up for the lack of variety, leaving us completely satisfied.A standout feature of Valhalla York was the stunning room upstairs, adorned with a striking depiction of Odin. This visually captivating space provided an enchanting atmosphere and further deepened our connection to the rich heritage and stories of Norse mythology. In conclusion, Valhalla York provided an amazing experience that exceeded our expectations. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Norse culture or those simply looking for a unique and enjoyable night out. We can't wait for our next visit to Valhalla York!
Richard Holdcroft: Decent pub, could be doing more imo to make the atmosphere better, little bit sterile
debbie veryard: Viking themed pub. Nuce Valhalla Odins Judgement ale had.
Robert Willis: Viking themed pub. The food platters are delicious cosy downstairs, more open upstairs.
Pam: Really busy buzzing pub, dog friendly. Friendly staff. Great time.

mark stansfield: We popped in on our way out of the city having not found anywhere that caught our eye. Having stumbled across it we had no expectations, but we are glad we came. We just needed a snack so just ordered three starters between two. Everything appeared to be made in the kitchen, the spring rolls definitely made here and superb, chicken strips super tender, beef strips tasty and with nice fresh vegetables. Interesting specials board made us think this place would be good for a full meal. Beer (TT landlord) very nice too.

Andy Goodhall: Buffet was delicious, drinks were customary
kev cav: Nice local pub & great food, good portion sizes & the pie last night was amazing.
Benjamin Canfield: Good beer selection, food and family friendly.
Irene Dickinson: An excellent place to go to the food we had first class.Definitely recommend it and would go there again.

Rob Waite: Had a lovely roast dinner at the Winning Post on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm. We booked the day before and only had a 5 min wait when we arrived.Food and service was fantastic.
S G: The Fish and Chips! Seriously the best we had our entire trip, and believe me, we sampled from London to Glasgow! 😂 Our other food (Risotto etc) was delicious also but the fish and chips were definitely the highlight by far. And sadly I didn’t get a picture! 😆

Philip Carter: Went here because it's supposed to be the most haunted pub, probably why most people come here. Walking down the corridor past the gents someone came out of the toilets, the smell when the door was opened was unbelievable. The pub itself inside looked filthy, so many nice pubs in York give this one a miss, I wish I had.
mick knapton: Very old haunted historical pub in York city center.small front bar leads to bottom bar and outdoor seating. Has the reputation of one of York's most haunted pubs. Sonja Williams: Lovely little pub. Table not cleaned though. we were in there with our 2 VERY well behaved daughters (10, 13 years), and were told, after buying drinks, that children had to leave by “8.30”. It was 8.15 at the time! Jamber Burns: We heard that the Golden Fleece was haunted and we wanted to visit for ourselves! Luckily when We arrived there were a few tables available as York was very busy the day that we visited. The Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered two Chicken Wraps with fries which was served very quick and tasted nice. The atmosphere was great too. Unfortunately we didn't see any of the ghosts that haunt the pub but we did see the skeleton dressed as the Easter bunny sat at the bar! which was a great touch for Easter. We will definitely return on our next visit to York.

Alessandro Rotondo: Average Pub, nothing special, expected something extra as “most haunted pub of York”, (That’s the only reason we’ve visited), the quality of food was quite bad, everything looked took out of the freezer just about 5min before was served 😛
julie buckham: An old fashioned pub with lots of skeletons around 😱 Good beers and gins but rather sticky tables. We sat in room at rear and could see beer garden at the back but too cool on a March night. £18.60 for 2 beers, G&T and non alcoholic lager
Alice Welburn: Always a great experience here! When ever we visit from Sheffield we always have to go to the Golden FleeceWalkability: Close to the ShamblesFood & drinks: The food has always been amazingNoteworthy details: Great old pub!
Amelia Blobby: Lovely pub grub and Old Peculiar always on tap! Love this old pub full of character x
