Oxfam Bookshop: what do users think?
allan claydon: Good used bookshop!
Mahatma Gandhi: Excellent source of eclectic and interesting books, bright and cosy lay out, lovely stop for all kinds of tastes.Essentially one half of a larger Oxfam book shop in York, with the other 'wing' down Micklegate.
Explore With Son & Me: Ridiculous prices, £3-4 for second hand old kids picture books. I can get them second hand on Amazon with free delivery for £2.
Nienke van den Hoek: Lovely little shop with great selection of books. Friendly staff as well
Rebecca East: Lovely selection of books but everyone was about £1 too expensive for a charity shop
Luke Charles: Nice bookshop with a decent selection.
vikki raine: Packed full of books at reasonable prices. Friendly staff.
Tom Hirst: Good selection of books :)
jason wilson: Great selection of books, was able to bag two Terry Pratchett's books. Quite a bit more expensive than the two I got in Sheffield Oxfam, but still goes to charity
Nick Smith: Great secondhand bookshop. Especially for literature, history and travel books. Also has a good local section.

Lucy Churchill: A treasure trove
Julian Berrios: Such an interesting bookshop. You could spend a lot of time here looking for hidden gems or vintage/classic/old books.
Ariane Robert: Very cute cheap books, I loved shopping there
Steve Watters: A wonderful range of books, probably something for everyone.
Peter M Cooper: Best bookshop ever - eclectic mix of new and old, love the little rooms and the tiny stairs.
Kim Martin: I have never been in a book shop like that, fabulous shop
Hugo Hehn: Visiting this bookstore was an absolute joy and I could have spent hours browsing if I didn't have people waiting for me.
Guido Liguori: Great service
Kate Wilson: Wonderful rabbit warren of books old and new. A beautiful book shop well worth a visit.
R. Z.Q: I was there yesterday and what a gem! Loads and loads of books at amazing prices. I strongly recommend it. Great selection of new and second hand books. And really helpful stuff.
Joshua Frampton T: Nice atmosphere and lovely staff, also cheap prices and a large range of books to choose from. If you like old books then come here and be entertained for hours!
Newbie_ Modder: Has amazing books. Is packed with them and is full of information. If you want a book on history or fiction, look here. It has 7 rooms across 4 floors packed with books. Yes, none of them are wallpaper.
allan claydon: Really snug little bookshop with a huge collection of books on all topics ranging from contemporary to antiquarianThe staff were really friendly warm and welcomingI would advice coming in on a quiet day as it is snug inside, and you can end up waiting for a while at the top or bottom of the stairs
Virginia Haro: Lovely little bookshop with many options to choose from. However, the staff didn't recommend or offer you much when I asked for a specific title.
Rebecca Cowman: A hidden gem! Love it
Lee Woodruff: Great selection of books at some fantastic prices !!
Saad: Best bookshop ever! Lots of options and relatively cheap.
Hilary Shepherd Holding: Cute rabbit warren bookshop - steep and narrow stairs - lots of lovely little rooms
Bella L: Amazing
Philip Johnson: Brilliant - can spend hours browsing the shelves.
Patricia S: As the name suggests this is conveniently located right next to the York Minster, and definetely a must visit if you like old bookshops full of treasures waiting to be (re)discovered. Books are stacked everywhere, including on the narrow staircase that requires some patience to navigate as it only allows for one person at a time. They accept both cash and card payments.

Lucius Books: what do users think?
Trevor Seabrook: Excellent service all round. Thank you very much
RICHARD CLEGG: A brilliant bookshop with some great first editions from the very expensive to the easily affordable.
Lando5231 Lando: Good book store! This is a amazing store with very good service!
Eric Cooper: Very friendly and knowledgeable owner. Would love to come here again next time I’m in town. Thanks for the great info on your Jim Morrison / Doors pieces down the years! Cheers!
Adam Houston: I purchased one of my first Harry Potter books from James back in 2017, a fine condition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. We still have the book today and love it. The buying experience was extremely enjoyable, we were offered coffee and a wonderful conversation about the market and rare books. James' inventory is of exceptional quality and I would recommend any book collector to visit the store in York or check out his website.
Julian Li (metalpizza123): There's a wide selection of rare and classic books. Though there are also more modern publications, and the staff were extremely helpful and even gift wrapped a book (a Murakami publication) as it was a gift for a family member. I would say though that I'm honestly a bit too young to have read/appreciate a sizeable share of the items there, but your mileage may vary if you're not a zoomer like me who predominantly reads modern science fiction.
Kevin Hedge: I bought a book from this lot in 2015 for £2,507. Today I met 'James' at the shop 7/5/21, a young man with a profound cavalier attitude. He offered me £400 for the book which is in 'Fine Condition.'''Of Human Bondage'' by Somerset Maugham, first edition 1915 published by William Heinemann, signed with a note to the purchaser from Somerset himself. The same book can be bought online for over £4,000, top price listed £5,400.We all have to work to tight margins however, this boy stuck me as an extortionist !BE CAREFULL in this shop;.I might add he priced the book after less than a minute of viewing it. I do note most of the comments on this site are about purchasing books.NONE commenting on the rip-off prices 'Lucius Books' offer for 106 year old tomes.Absolutely disgusted.I'd like to suggest if buying OR selling at 'Lucius', get a quote elsewhere first.you could save a small fortune.I can now appreciate fully why Amazon are doing so well :..Mr Hallgate (the extortionist ) suggests I bought this book online in his reply on TRUST Advisor. .....he can wriggle all he wants, my invoice number from his shop was 7844, bought on the 28/10/2015.Your witness:.Mr James Hallgate ( the extortionist ) suggests I bought this book in an online auction, in his reply on TRUST Advisor. ..... he can wriggle all he wants, my invoice number from his shop was 7844, bought on the 28/10/2015. My account number 4438:Your witness:AND I add,he denies I purchased the book from Lucius Books he further falsely suggests the book has been rebound since I purchased it, THE BOOK is in the exact same condition I bought it.He really is a piece of arrogant work.
Mikey Bailey: I recently purchased H. G. Wells When the Sleeper Wakes as a gift for my partner who lives in America. The price was more than reasonable for such a well preserved book. The book arrived well packaged and gift wrapped (which I was pleasently surprised by!). All of my questions were answered quickly and in a friendly manner. I am absolutely going to be ordering more books from Lucious Books. I have, and will continue to recommend to anybody.Kind regards,Michael.
David Beswick: Great bookshop
Jonathan Hyde: Excellent selection of good quality and rare books. Very reasonably priced. Well presented with polite and friendly staff. James the owner is thoroughly knowledgeable and very professional.
Richard Thomas: Such a pleasure doing business with James and Monica. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Plus they have such great books!Highly recommended. Whether it is at a book show, their shop, or online.
Ken Davies: We looked everywhere for a perfect 1st edition in wrapper of Enid Blyton's 'First Term at Malory Towers' (1946). Three generations of girls (so far) have grown up with this story. At last we found one here! The transaction was swift, the service outstanding, the delivery prompt, the book itself superb. It is now logged as a family heirloom to be passed down the female line! Many thanks.
David Connolly: Many thanks James for getting the signed first edition of Nation to us so quickly. Also, thanks for taking the time to wrap and securely post to us. Would highly recommend Lucius Books.
Elena Bushby: An outstanding selection of rare books and artworks, some of which I would expect to see only in a museum! Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a relaxed atmosphere. I hope to visit again soon.
Rolf Peebles: If you love books you can’t fail to love this bookshop. Wonderful books in stock and wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable staff. A shop to visit whenever you’re in York. I always do.
Giacomo Gelardi: Lucius Books is my favourite book shop. This is the place where I go when I need a special gift. The staff is not only very qualified in antiquarian and rare books, their speciality, they are also very friendly and always willing to help. On occasions I also used their shipping services and the delivery of the books has always been impeccable, fast and secure. Their new location, just around the corner from the train station, makes it very handy for those like me who do not live in York and want drop in for a browse through their always new acquisitions. If you are in York, I really invite you to pay a visit to Lucius Books, you will not be disappointed.
mary draper: Ordered 2 books yesterday at 9.30 they where here today before 9.00 . Fantastic service, books wrapped and bubbled wrapped.
Jos Grimbergen: Goed antiquariaat

Waterstones: what do users think?
Andy H: Got what we were looking for
katy: nice staff, good range of books. always a good experience here.
Graham: The bookshop is a complete joy. Not only is there a huge selection but the excellent staff really know their onions. I've become a fan of Japanese authors lately and wondered if they could offer me any advice. 20 minutes later, I walked into their upstairs coffee shop holding 3 highly recommended books by authors I hadn't heard of but whose writing was described to me so knowledgeably, I couldn't refuse. And now to said coffee shop. The staff, the coffee and what I saw of the food offerings are first class. Most enjoyable. Lovely coffee. But the seating cushions are deeply dirty, somewhat sticky in places and frankly deserve to be thrown away. I mentioned it to a member of the staff who agreed to discuss it with the manager....but quietly agreed with my disappointment.Overall, a really super place to visit.... and the small problem is easily sorted
Josh Adger: Lovely shop
Jannine Coggle: Nice cafe upstairs.
Karin Girr: So so ein schöner Buchladen....tolles sortiment
Susan Miller: Always have good service in waterstones.
Gil Lester: Very pleasant helpful staff.Fabulous selection of books.Stimulating environment.
Joseph Bayliss: Nice layout. Love going to WS in new cities
sinead1379: Nice big bookshop with lovely cafe.
Ria Miklós: Went in to browse children's books, so only explored that area, it was all tidy and when asked for help, the staff were very helpful and efficient.
Laura Boddy: Loads of choice but expensive.
Stephen Harper: Good range of books covering everything you could want in the literature world !Staff were helpful !Books and subjects were easy to find !An all round good experience !
Louis Smith: Lots of books, lots of more books. Nice cafe with good seating and service. Good cakes!
Emma Larard: Amazing helpful staff
Stewart Riley: Really friendly staff, found a book to read , well laid out with a nice cafe and a loo. If I had used Amazon I wouldn't have chosen the book, but had a good conversation with other similarly minded customers, again something you don't get on Amazon. Use it or lose it.
John Tipper: Always good to buy your books
Nic Ole (nic): I lik this place but carrot cake dry on my tung
Phil Marley: Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good selection of fiction and non-fiction plus a coffee shop. Feels quirky and small (in a good way) while actually being quite a big place. Wheelchair access to ground floor only, relatively narrow aisles.
Mo Hall: Great shop lots of lovely booksBuy one and get another at half price last week.Nice cafe.
sandra pearson: Helpful staff

I wanted to find "Rooms of Their Own: Where Great Writers Write" by Alex Johnson, which I had seen the previous day but had since been shelved somewhere and the lovely lady at the desk worked hard to find it! Pitch 22 Records Books Art: what do users think?
Kath Bassett: Great book and record shop. Has a decent selection of vinyl, which are all reasonably priced. Will Def be back.
Jo Suter: A cracking little shop with a good range of records and the staff were very friendly.
Manuel Etchart: Excellent attention, very friendly and great stuff to dig!
Yorkcityknight: Might be small but so what. Quite simply the best record shop in the area. Always find something worth a listen. Never come away feeling ripped off. An absolute gem of a place.
Christian Jensen: This is an excellent little place for finding 70s and 80s original, hard-to-find vinyl. The selection is fairly small, but the percentage of great 2nd hand records in that selection blew me away, and I've been doing this for a long time. I ended up buying an original pressing of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. Would have bought a number of 80s records if I hadn't already had them.
Bill Clayton: Great little place for a browse to find that old vinyl LP you wanted back in the day ! Just a few minutes walk from the centre. Not hugely accessible with steep steps to enter and not a lot of space inside, but if able, worth a visit.
Elliot Fielding: Stumbled across this brilliant independent shop whilst visiting York. As I am a newcomer to the vinyl scene, the shopkeeper was so friendly and offered helpful advice, he even went above and beyond by playing the vinyls I was interested in. Outstanding service and an independent gem, would highly recommend.
Martin White: Don't tell anyone ! Great bargains to be had ! Books records art they have it all ! Support your local indie shops !
Colin Chappell: Hi,do you buy X-Files dvds?etc?
steven batty: Great record shop.
Diego Vidal Cruzprieto: Great place! A great selection of books and records
Sarah Stothard: Great stock , fair prices . buy or sell vinyl books and ephemera , have a look !
Lucy Burns: A lovely local record store with great service and a welcoming vibe. A wonderful addition to our community!

The Blue House Bookshop: what do users think?
Frances Postlethwaite: Friendly helpful staff.
Nicola Olley: Lovely bookshop. Good range of books from board books to older children/teens and some adult books. Very friendly service, well worth a visit.
David Hanson: A beautifully curated space filled with a beautifully curated collection of books
Jamie Cowling: Little gem of a bookshop.
ruth jacobs: Lovely independent book shop, very helpful staff
Allan: Lovely little bookshop with great choice of children's books.
Jean Hilton: I cannot rate this bookshop highly enough. I was unable to visit the bookshop in person so contacted Karen explaining that I wanted to buy books for 4 young relatives. She asked for details of age, gender and likes and sent me a selection of 5 suitable books for each child to 'browse'. She gift wrapped them beautifully and added a card. Nothing was too much trouble. Even when I discovered, just prior to delivery, that one of the children had already got the book I had chose, Karen just changed it and sent it on it's way, even though she had had to order in my new choice and repackage it at what must have been a very busy time. Excellent, friendly service from an independent little shop. I look forward to visiting the bookshop and thanking Karen personally.
Andrew Stark: What a fantastic book shop. I wish this was around when my young 'uns were, well.....young! A great combination of some all-time classics (Maurice Sendak, Kenneth Grahame, Eric Carle) and more modern ones (and not the 'obvious' ones too). Some beautifully illustrated books in here.Above all, the welcome and the service was great. Now you can't get that level of customer service when you order from a faceless online organisation. Well worth a visit. (The shop is quite quirky too!).
Charlotte Haines Lyon: A bookshop so wonderful you have to buy something. Lovely range of books.
Amy Milstein: The most delightful children's bookshop in all of England, bar none. The selection is a perfect blend of the familiar and the unexpected so that every child - even the most reluctant reader - will find something they love. To top it off, Karen is exactly the kind of person you hope to find in such a magical place; knowledgeable, full of love for books and people who read them. I can't recommend it enough. If I lived in York I'd be there regularly; as it is, it's always our first stop when visiting York!

Travelling Man: what do users think?
Ian Wildon: I spoke to a lady there on Friday then visited on Saturday with my son its absolutely brilliant we both loved it. extremely helpful and friendly staff and to top it off we won a giant comic book, thanks so much
Matt M: Staff are obviously passionate about hoped games and this comes through when talking to them.Super helpful, knowledgeable and seem to enjoy their Job.The shop has a wide selection of games ranging from entry level to the hobby and going as far as you'd like to go.
Guy Brown: Good selection and friendly staff.
Alain Salesse: Supremely knowledgeable staff who made us a great board game recommendation that we really enjoy (Viticulture in case you're wondering)
andrew england: Super helpful chap at the counter, I think I've found my new favourite hobby shop
Amanda Vobes: Great choice and friendly staff who have good knowledge.
Yvonne Bissett: Great staff and venue. I visited as part of a pop-up maid cafe and we were made very welcome by all there. Hope to be back next year!
Kyz S: Lovely game store with lovely staff. Things are well priced in there and they have an amazing selection. The staff are really kind and also really knowledgeable and ready to help!
Oliver Taylor: The staff are very friendly. They have a huge range of different comic books, ttrpgs, and board games. They have recently opened a large warhammer section upstairs, which is a god sent since some things are actually cheaper than games workshop. I wish they had a larger selection of card games like Vampire the eternal struggle, but not enough to reduce the rating.
Mark Chapman: Great shop
Rowan Barber: lovely vibe, even lovelier patient, knowledgeable, passionate staff, really appreciate the pronoun badges + inclusiveness! made me feel really safe both as a queer person and a new dabbler in certain games ☺️
lawrence shaw: Far too narrow and cramped. Impossible to browse properly and probably the most expensive comic book store I've ever been in
Steve Jones: Great selection of games, comics and manga. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Definitely on my list to revisit next time I'm in York
Hayley Grayson: When visiting a new city, we always check for board game shops/cafés as game enthusiasts! The travelling man did not disappoint and the range of games available was vast. The price point of the games was average, although there was a sale on when we visited, so there is a chance you could get a bargain. The shop is small and a little cramped in parts and may be difficult if you have limited mobility. Hence the 4 stars. Nice range of LGBTQ+ items and books as an added bonus. It's a shame there isn't a coffee shop, game café aspect, although I believe you are able to sit upstairs and play your newly purchased games.
Darren Hodgkinson: Popping into Travelling Man is a highlight of every trip into the city for me! They have a superb selection of comics, new and back issues. A crazy collection of manga you've never heard of. With a dazzling display of board games with boxes the size of a postcard through to boxes the size of the postvan! They've even found room for tabletop RPGs and trading cards somehow! The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable too. They greet newcomers and regulars with the same smile and great attitude.I've not used the room upstairs but it's great to have a dedicated space for nerds to be nerds!#SupportYourFLGS
Rudie Humphrey: I like adult graphic novels, there is a small selection of very common titles amongst the nerdy role playing geekery and normal Manga/Marvel/DC fluff.
Andrew Graham: There is something for everyone. Great selection, staff super friendly. Nice and warm shop, good vibes.
allan claydon: Amazing shop! I've ordered from here a few times online so decided to swing in and I was blown away by the sheer range of products a must visit site for any fans of graphic novels and manga, superb range of 40k models, boardgames, and RPGs too!I was surprised the MTG section wasn't larger as this is typically what I've ordered online but still managed to spend hours browsing through the store
Tag 1503: More manga then I've ever seen in one place!
Tim Ashurst: Great place
