We’re passionate about improving the lives of cats and kittens in York, working to find loving new homes for local cats in our care, offering support with neutering, and lost and found cats, as well as general education and awareness within the York area. York Cats Protection Adoption Centre's Homing process operates on an appointment based system, seven days a week.

Please contact the Centre through the CONTACT US form or via the listing on the cat’s profile on our Adopt a Cat page. As well as completing all fields in the form please provide additional details in the comments box, including information about any other pets, children, working arrangements etc.

We will then phone you and go through our Homefinder Questionnaire to help us match you with the most suitable cats we have in our care.

Once we have come up with suitable matched cat candidates for you we will make an appointment with you to visit the Centre.

During your appointment the staff at the Centre will introduce the cats we have matched to you. If you then think this is the cat for you we can reserve them for you and we can continue along your adoption journey.

Once you have reserved a cat we need some time to prepare them for the next chapter in their new lives, and you will need some time to get your home ready for their arrival. Before you go we will go through everything you need to know about settling your cat into their new home, things like diet, litter tray arrangements, medical history, any particular feline behaviours they may display etc. We will then make an appointment for you to come and collect your cat within the next 7 days.

Our Adoption Fees are currently £95 for an adult cat (7 months old and above) and £115 for a kitten (up to 6 months old, includes neutering).

Visitors to the Centre will be unable to meet any cats until they have completed a Homefinder Questionnaire with one of our Team. This is to be completed before you visit the Centre.

4worldlovers: We opened in 1987 and the centre was rebuilt in 2009. The centre has facilities for 25 dogs and 40 cats, with additional puppy and kitten facilities.

Yes. You can visit between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. We are closed to visitors without a pre-booked appointment on Wednesdays.

Our team are here to help. So, whether it’s about volunteering, donating, pet advice or information on how to adopt a pet, we’ll talk you through.

You’ll need to apply to adopt a pet on our website. This is to make sure the application process is as fair as possible to everyone. If we think you’ll be a good match for one of our pets, we’ll contact you to start the process.

Most of our dogs, cats and small pets are looked after by our fantastic team of foster carers. This ensures they get the best care. If we do have pets in our centres, we try to limit the number of people who can see them to those who have a pre-booked appointment, as lots of visitors can be stressful.

Our Home Direct scheme is for dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets whose owners can sadly no longer keep them but don’t need to find them a new home straight away. Pets stay in their existing home until a new owner is found for them. All pets go through our careful assessment and matching process.

Buy our pets a treat or purchase something to help our centre be the best it can be.

We’ve partnered with the food banks below so they can give out the pet food, bedding and other items we are donated.

The above food banks may not have your pet’s usual food brand or type in stock when you need our help. We’ve put together some useful tips on feeding your pet in a crisis situation to help you manage this.

No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pet. We collect food and other pet items for Blue Cross pet food banks at our rehoming centre and distribute it through our food bank partners. Each and every donation we receive goes to support pets and their families in the local area and helps keep pets in their loving homes.

We accept donations for our pet food bank here at any time during our opening hours. Please let a member of our team know when you arrive and your items will be gratefully received. You can also support us by donating funds to our pet food bank appeal.
