York Pilates People: what do users think?
AC: Lou and her YPP are a fantastic Pilates studio. I’ve attended for some time, following a surgery and also pre and post natal. As a physio myself I am extra critical. Lou is experienced with the complex and specific pre and post natal needs of women. The exercises and classes are targeted and effective, without unnecessary stress on the body.I credit the classes for keeping me from pregnancy aches and pains, managing any niggles quickly, and feeling myself after birth. And the classes are friendly, relaxed and a great way to meet people, especially as a new mum!
Rose Kooper-Johnson: Good classes, lovely instructors, really enjoy pilates as a way to stay active and build strength/flexibility
Rose Temple: The postnatal pilates really helped my recovery after having my daughter. I found the classes just the right level of challenge and there is a lovely friendly atmosphere too!
dinny smith: Postnatal Pilates with Imogen has been amazing - a chance to get back into your body whilst your baby plays beside you. The classes are so friendly and inclusive (tailored to post natal needs) and babies are welcomed (and sometimes even incorporated into the exercises). I’ll miss this so much when I go back to work.
Charlotte Anderson: I've attended the post natal mum and baby Pilates class on Fridays for several months now and feel like it has helped my post natal recovery massively, particularly healing my core muscles. Imogen is a great teacher and takes care to observe and correct you as you do the exercises. It is also a lovely space to meet other mums and babies, often with a coffee and chat after!
Elaine Bradshaw: Ready for a New Year of pilates with York Pilates People! This will be my third year. I like the range of classes and times, currently using evening sessions to counteract the day's sitting at screens. All the teachers are attentive and keep an eye on us even on Zoom, modifying moves to accommodate the different degrees of flexibility (or otherwise!) that we are capable of.
Carol Milana: I’ve been going to classes 2 or 3 times a week at YPP for quite a while now, both in the studio & on zoom. The classes, whilst challenging, are always enjoyable with modifications for different abilities. The teachers are all fabulous, I wouldn’t go anywhere else now!
Jessica Mosley: Great flexibility and range of class types and times. I started with lower back problems and haven't had any problems since. Imogen's classes are just the right level of demanding and she really pays attention to whether you are doing each exercise correctly. Wouldn't be without Pilates now!
Rachel How: I really enjoy Imogen's classes. She's a great teacher with clear instructions and she's careful to check that we're all doing the right thing. I joined YPP after several years at another pilates studio and am very happy that it's just as good! The flexible membership is an added perk.
Hannah Gray: Love, love, love Liz's 7.30am props class on a Friday morning! A chance to put my working week behind me and work through all the aches and niggles that sitting at a desk can bring. Get's me out of bed and sets me up for the day. Liz's patience and kindness when my small children also join me on screen and join in the exercises is really appreciated.
Amy Curtin: YPP are amazing! They were recommended by a colleague, and after doing their 'Intro to Pilates' course I haven't missed a week. The teachers are very good, always providing modifications and helpful personalised feedback. After sitting all day at a desk, class really helps with any back pain I've built up.
Liani Jordao: All the teachers are brilliant and always encourage us to adapt the exercises to our ability without compromising the excellence. I love the classes and I’m able to follow classes above my level when I have to attend different ones due to work commitments.
Linda Ward: Great classes and great teachers. Flexible membership. The 7.30am online class on Tuesday morning gets me out of bed and sets me up for the day! Thanks to everyone at YPP.Linda
Kate Wright: I've just done my first equipment class with Liz and thoroughly enjoyed it. We used resistance bands and she put together a lovely class that left me feeling nicely challenged and stretched in all the right places. Liz is very encouraging and friendly, and - as always with YPP classes - there are options for adapting exercises where necessary to accommodate different needs. The focus is on what is right for each individual. Looking forward to the next one - thanks Liz!
Simon Lee: Liz is a great Pilates teacher. I’ve been taught by her both in class (remember when that was a thing) and on Zoom. She brings her enthusiasm and expertise to the class and provides clear guidance for all movements, demonstrating to start with and then watching and providing feedback to ensure we are getting the most from the class.
susan parkin: Another great class with the lovely Liz! She really knows how to get the most out our hour long session, keep up the good work Liz!
Sarah Middleton: Liz's Rise & Shine class on a Friday morning has become the highlight of my week. Not only does it signal the end of week/beginning of weekend, it's just such a lovely way to wake up and start the day. Liz has a beautifully calm way of easing us through the exercises, even the some of the trickiest, and I now find I can do more than I thought I could! I couldn't recommend this class more highly.
Sophie Wright: Cannot recommend this studio enough. I joined around a year ago having tried a few different places but straight away this one felt like home. It's a lovely space and Lou is a fantastic teacher. Every class I have been to feels so welcoming and you never feel judged, even as a newbie, just supported. There are classes to suit most people's schedules (and even more now due to the transfer to video classes). I am currently pregnant and so have been attending the prenatal classes which are great too. It's good to meet other pregnant people and she offers postnatal classes which I am sure will be excellent as well. I've not had any of the expected pregnancy niggles like back ache and I'm sure it's down to these classes. Give it a go!
Anna Lawson: Highly recommended- I’ve attended different classes with all 3 teachers and have enjoyed them all.Very relaxed and friendly environment. New to Pilates 2 months ago and quite nervous about starting but I have been well looked after. You can work at your own pace in classes ...but you also feel like you’ve had a good work out. There has been a huge improvement in my back stiffness/soreness (from desk job) since I’ve been coming here.
Gina Ntoutsou: My doctor recommended I start pilates to help with my lower back pain and I'm really happy I did. It's been about 2 months since I started at YPP and my back pain has decreased significantly. One of the most important things I've learned so far is how to stand properly and be conscious of my posture. It's made me realise how much unnecessary weight I might be putting on my back by having a bad posture or not engaging the right muscles. The classes are always lovely and the space is friendly and cosy. It helps a lot that the classes are small and intimate so you don't feel like you're getting lost in the crowd. This makes it easier to express any questions you might have during the practice and the teachers can keep an eye on everyone and give you guidance.A lovely experience overall! Highly recommended X
Joanna Witton: I've been coming along to Lou's intermediate classes regularly for about 18 months now, and that alone is testament to what a great Pilates teacher she is!Before now, I had attended both small group and gym classes where class sizes ranged from 6 to 40, and I knew that, when I was recommended Pilates to help with a hip injury, I definitely wanted smaller group classes. Lou teaches in classes of a maximum of 10, meaning there is ample room for everyone in the studio but also, importantly, the capacity for individual attention where required or requested. If a particular exercise or movement isn't working right, she's quick to troubleshoot and suggest adaptations for tight muscles, loose joints, injuries... whatever the issue, she can help you to work around it. Lou also works with Liz and Maddie; I've never taken a class with Maddie simply due to class timings but Liz is also an excellent teacher. The classes are fun - always a laugh, especially with moves like "rolling like a ball". They're challenging, too, but in the right way! Each week I leave class feeling that I've worked hard, feeling taller, stronger, but just as importantly relaxed! I feel like I glide home on my bike afterwards, with all the neck and back tension gone and my hip stronger than ever. I've never had good core or upper body strength, yet with Lou's classes I now find myself folding into shoulder stands - something I never thought I'd be able to do!If you're looking for an effective and enjoyable Pilates class, it's right here!

York Pilates Space: what do users think?
RA Mason: Patricia is a really wonderful Pilâtes teacher. Whilst focusing on the details of each exercise, she is also able to encourage you, at the same time as being challenging, in a very supportive way. I have found this combination of skills to have been perfect and all in a calm studio environment. Thank you, I would highly recommend Michael King Pilâtes at the studio.
Eamonn Anderson: Patrica is the best Pilates teacher I have ever been to. My credentials for recommending her to you are that I have been to many very good Pilates teachers in London, and a number of ordinary ones in both London and York in my 10+ years of doing Pilates. Patrica has taught me control and breathing are the essence of Pilates, and for a stiff old ex-rugby player with a bad back and non-elastic hamstrings, this has been an understanding worth its weight in gold. Thank you! Her daughter. Georgia, has learnt well at the experts table and my feelings are she is just as good.
Stephanie Bain: I really enjoyed my CPD training on the Pilates Spine Corrector with Patricia in her venue in York.It was useful and inspiring and I would definitely consider undertaking further training courses.
Joan Baker: This is a great space for Pilates classes. The rooms are lovely - airy, calm and in an excellent location. The teachers are attentive with an emphasis on continued learning and reinforcement of good practice. The principles of Pilates are explained with care and all students are encouraged to understand their own bodies and, with help, to adapt the exercises to their own needs. Well worthy of a five star rating.
Laura Kayes: A lovely, peaceful and well equipped setting in the heart of York with exceptionally experienced teachers to offer expert guidance.
Theo Issitt: Currently doing my MK pilates teacher training here and it's excellent! The equipment and the space is beautiful and the training is very good.
Lucy McLean: I was really struggling with my back despite having physio, visiting a chiropractor and trying out various sports massages. Pilates was the thing that finally helped me long term! I have been so well looked after by Patricia and I really cannot recommend her highly enough. I even carried on with my pilates classes with Patricia through pregnancy and I'm now back doing a class with Georgia getting back into shape post pregnancy! I love it!

Lara Wilcox: Following 10 years of intermittent back pain and a particularly bad case of sciatica I was very pleased to find Sarah. I have visited a number of health professionals to help (2 chiropractors, 3 physios, massage, yoga etc) with no long lasting success. I was losing hope that I would ever be in good shape again (I'm only in my 40s) but Sarah has turned that feeling around very quickly. I have 1-to-1 sessions with her in her studio and attend a weekly class and in a short time she has pinpointed the problem. Unlike anyone else I have visited she has listened carefully to what I report and views the body as a whole and does not just focus on the site of pain. She is very detailed and thorough and has an immense amount of knowledge about the body and a seemingly endless variety of exercises. I have learnt so much about my own body since seeing her, and finally feel a sense of control over my own healing and ongoing health, strength and mobility. I have recommended her to many friends and will continue to do so, particularly for anyone who has searched for answers to their back/hip/neck/body pain and found noone else to be able to help. She works on strength, stretching, releasing and mind as a complete package to achieving your goals. She is what I've been looking for for the complete holistic recovery of my body. Thanks Sarah, you have changed my life. Recommend 100%.
Georgina Foster: Very professional. Sarah can teach Pilates from complete novice stage up to very advanced stage for the young and very fit. She always takes a personal interest in each of her clients and will always modify exercises accordingly. Whatever your degree of experience you will always feel a great sense of achievement after a class
Martin Smithson: Sarah is very knowledgeable and thorough. She is passionate about her work and good at it. I would recommend her highly.
Ruth Thijssen: Sarah is so knowledgeable and I highly recommend her group pilates classes and 1-1 PT.
Rose Temple: Perfecting pilates has really helped me get back into exercise after having my daughter. Sarah is so knowledgeable and the classes are just the right amount of challenge. I really enjoy them and see the benifit!
Claire Ferguson: Working with Sarah 1:1 has completely changed how I think about what my body is capable of. Even after just a couple of sessions, I feel so much stronger and more mobile. Very professional, knowledgeable and empathetic- highly recommended.
Jonny Hayes: I attended my first class last night after 39 years of extreme military fitness. The instructions , delivery and passion and experience of Sarah was what I consider to be World leading. The session exposed me to the world of deep structural strengthening and exercises that will protect your primary skeleton engine ( spine ) for life. My view has always been if your spine is injured- you are in deep trouble and pain for years - what I was exposed to last night focussed on strengthening the deep anatomical tissues that protect the spine and core and will improve your quality of movement. In summary Outstanding! Thank you
Steven Preston: I am an ex-Rugby player and long-distance runner and was suffering with constant joint pains and aches. I was also unable to stand on one leg for a long period of time (I can’t remember why this is important).I have been attending Sarah’s' classes for almost a year now and my mobility and my comfort have both significantly increased. The classes are always engaging, and Sarah works hard to keep the programme changing so it’s not repetitive and she provides variations of each exercise meaning the class can be as challenging as you like.I can also now stand on one leg for a long time! I just need to remember why this is a good thing..
carol raworth: I have been attending Sarah's classes for a couple of years now and can highly recommend her. My core strength and mobility has improved and I have noticed a general all round boost in my health and well being.
Jane Pickering: I have taken part in Sarah's pilates session for several months now. She leads each session with a clear plan. She demonstrates every movement and watches us carefully to ensure we are doing the appropriate moves. She has good coaching agility especially for those in our class with health needs so she knows many alternative movements to ensure they continue to strength their core and enjoy the exercise. I enjoy our weekly class it's good fun and I feel a lot of benefits.
Lois Gott: I have known Sarah, and I have been going to her classes for at least 13 years. Sarah has vast knowledge; she encourages everyone, her classes are well structured, and they are also good fun. I guess going to her classes for over 13 years says it all!
Caron Lett: Sarah's individual and group classes are fantastic and have helped me to correct years of bad posture. I would highly recommend Perfecting Pilates.
Sam Balcomb: Sarah is an excellent Pilates teacher. I first started Pilates following some issues with muscles in my neck and shoulders and the sessions, along with extra personal advice have made a huge improvement. Sarah gives clear instruction for the exercises & options for different abilities or how you are feeling at the time. I would highly recommend Sarah.
Jessica Hodgson: Sarah is fantastic!! I’ve been searching for help with a pelvic / back problem for so many years from different health professionals and Sarah has completely transformed the way I approach it. I now have the confidence to live my life with self-help exercise and feel strong enough to get back to the sport / exercise that I love. Sarah is so knowledgeable about the body, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Robert Weatherhead: Sarah’s knowledge and expertise are outstanding. I have only been in her class since February after a hip replacement and a recent fall. I am in my late 70’s and my balance is improving, however, my mobility, pain and strength have improved greatly.Without question I would recommend Sarah as a first class Pilates teacher. Thanks Sarah, I now feel more motivated and energised. Forever grateful. RJW.
Anne James: I have been attending Sarah’s Pilates classes for several years and she has steered me through recovery from 2 hip replacements. However earlier this year I developed sudden severe back pain after bending quickly in the shower. I thought it would right itself and that at 84 years of age maybe I should accept it as part of growing older. When the pain had made me tired and depressed I sought Sarah’s help. I had a 1:1 session with her at her studio This involved a very thorough assessment and she began freeing up my muscle groups. Now I have embarked on a 10 week course- 1 hour each week in which she works on my body and watches as I perform exercises ( which I have to do daily for homework !)The improvement has been observable and remarkable . Yesterday I walked pain free for at least 2 miles.Sarah is very knowledgeable and tenacious in her endeavour to make her clients whole.I have been thoroughly satisfied with my progress and would certainly recommend her .She is lively and friendly but strict.
Mike Hewitt: After Sarah got my back sorted out, I have progessed from beginners to Sports pilates classes which are both challenging and fun. Weekly personal training sessions build strength, flexibility and are keeping me motivated.A big thank you Sarah.
Diana Liu: I've been with Sarah's classes for a year. She is an amazing teacher. she really helps you understand what the exercises are doing good for your body, and what you can do to improve your posture and fitness levels.Sarah obviously knows her stuff well and encouraged me to challenge myself to a next level. I can feel my body is much better than a year before.
Helen Bickley: I have had a number of one2 one sessions with Sarah. Her vast knowledge and bespoke sessions have led me on to path of real recovery from a number of varied issues. Whole heartedly recommended.
Tricia Collins: I started Pilates with Sarah when I retired and am so pleased I did, probably in the nick of time! We work seriously in class but Sarah keeps the vibe friendly and encouraging. Everyone should do Pilates!
Brian Forsyth: Have gone to Sarah's classes for some years now and found them beneficial. The classes are structured and fun and also gets the brain going as to which part of the body you are actually trying to use. The classes have strengthened my upper body strength as most of my life has been spent doing ballet which is not upper body strength but suppleness. The classes address that also. Cannot recommend highly enough if you want a challenge and fun!

Harrogate Yoga: what do users think?
Steven Brocklehurst: Great loved it
Emma Robinson: I love Amanda’s classes and they are always one of the highlights of the week. They are very different from previous yoga classes I have attended which have sometimes felt like a slightly chaotic conveyor belt. Amanda creates the most relaxed, welcoming space with her very natural and holistic approach. She is really kind and clearly very experienced too. Each class feels like a hug and I always sleep really well afterwards!
Lynne Clark: I can’t recommend Harrogate Yoga highly enough. Classes take place in a lovely studio with a calming, peaceful, welcoming atmosphere. Amanda is genuinely interested in helping her students, creating a warm, friendly and supportive environment.
mike dobson: I have been attending Amanda's classes for three years now and always enjoy the sessions, feeling the benefits for long after. Amanda is extremely kind, sensitive and thoughtful, giving a real breadth and variety to the classes. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
R “SuperBluebottle” King: I started going to Amanda's yoga class 4 year's ago. Amanda is an excellent teacher and one of the things I love about the sessions is the advice on adapting different positions to suit everyone's different aches, pains and levels of flexibility. It is a very peaceful and friendly environment and I never fail to come away feeling more relaxed and energised. Thanks Amanda
nickmcn11: I've been attending Amanda's yoga classes for about 10 years now, and I'm still learning and feeling deeply nourished by her teaching. She never pushes, never judges, just delivers consistently high quality classes that gently help us to experience greater levels of connectedness and peace. She is very generous - both in what she gives through her teaching and through her general care for her students. Thank you, Amanda!
Victoria Notman: I have been an aspiring yogi for twenty years now. As a busy working mum of two youngsters, with a demanding job, time to practise is often difficult to find. One of the main reasons why Amanda's classes get "5 stars" from me are the kindness, patience and non-judgmental ambience that lies at the very heart of her teaching. There is no expectation of excellence in my postures, no criticism when it's "one step forwards and two back" having missed a class or not kept up with my "homework". Quite the reverse: When I enter the beautiful room that is Amanda's yoga practice space I find myself in a sanctuary full of like minded people creating a synergy of calm, support and often laughter. We share our practice and our lives in way that is both safe and encouraging. My friend Justine has written a perfect piece on Amanda's skills, qualifications and expert teaching ability. I can only add that my weekly oasis at Harrogate Yoga gives me a perfect peace, which nurtures both my mind and my body in a way that helps me feel exceptional in my "normalness", respected for being who I am and enthusiastic about the life I live.....with all its ups and downs.Try it for yourself.......her door is always open and the welcome delightful. You will leave rejuvenated from your visit and inspired by your experiences. Namaste.
Ellie Jackson: I really enjoy the classes at Harrogate Yoga, they take place in a lovely relaxed space and Amanda is a great teacher; each class is different and she's very good at advising individual students on modifications based on any injuries. I look forward to my time there each week.
Neil Tiffany: I started off with Harrogate Yoga's beginner course, my first introduction to yoga. It was a great way to start as everyone in the class was a beginner and it was a small class allowing Amanda to help everyone as they needed it.I have since moved from there through the level 1 class and into the level 2 class. At each step the classes have been well balanced and friendly. There is a nice balance between the physical practice and the meditation and mental aspect of yoga, with a reading each week to discuss or just think on.The classes always develop nicely through each term, so if you are new to a level (or just didn't practice as much as you should between terms :P) it's not too much at the start (nor too little) and by the end of each term you're doing more than at the start.I think I have been going for 8 years now and I gladly recommend the classes to anyone looking to start or continue with Yoga. It's exactly what a yoga class should be, it's relaxed, its friendly, its challenging and accepting.
Karen Usher: Amanda's classes are friendly and supportive. Each student has the right amount of challenge to progress without overreaching their ability, and for me this has led to a sense of achievement as well as the other benefits of yoga. I look forward to class each week and emerge feeling exercised and relaxed!
Justine Brooks: Lessons with Amanda Latchmore add a new dimension to your yoga practice. A highly experienced teacher whose practice is informed by body mind centering and science as well as yoga tradition. Amanda often takes time out to explain why certain postures are useful anatomically, what those poses teach us and how to use them. Amanda teaches us to be aware of personal limits - paying attention to individual physical weaknesses or injuries.Amanda has been teaching for 30 years and has taught me for 15 years and in that time she has never stopped learning and developing as a teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable and each lesson is carefully planned to consider a certain aspect of yoga practice - for example, flow, breathing, building strength. Amanda is also a trainer of yoga teachers and our classes contain a real range of people from those looking for fitness or relaxation to trainee and experienced teachers. Her lessons are always interesting.Lessons take place in a gorgeous yoga room - there’s a scent of lilies and incense and beautiful music playing. Each class begins with a short discussion that leads into practice - inspired perhaps by a poem or a passage from a book - and ends with meditation and relaxation.Amanda provides mats, blocks, blankets and eye bags, so all you have to do is turn up and practice.
Mark Bramley: Started 3 yrs ago as a beginner, and really enjoying level 1 classes. Amanda is a excellent teacher who gives each student as much guidance as they require, and allows a fun educational environment to progress. 5 stars from me.
Leigh Richardson: Fantastic teacher and the classes in harrogate are very good and informative.

Roberto Carhoata: A nice park

Lovely to visit at all times of the year and the lake, play area and gardens are amazing too. It's great that they have a skate park, toilets, a cafe plus sports courts as well. Just a nice place to be.
Ian Bone: Great park, I can imagine it would be fabulous in the summer rather than muddy in the winter

wee gems: A peaceful park can spend 30 minutes or however long you wish. There is a small car park which you need to pay for. A play park near the car park. I was only there for about an hour, so didn't see everything. A few statues dotted around the place ponds, and a lovely looking canel, which had a nice bridge. Saw a few people walking their dogs, feeding the birds and ducks but didn't see any swans this time. I wish had longer to see the courts - tennis and basketball, and he rest.Playground: Has a medium size play groundPicnic area: Can eat on a blanket or the tables
