Northern College of Acupuncture: what do users think?

Rich Fox: Working with the team at the NCA over the past couple of years has been an absolute pleasure; they’re a friendly bunch, highly professional and passionate about acupuncture. Set in the heart of beautiful York, the college is a buzz of activity and there’s always something exciting going on.

Sarah Simpson: I graduated from the NCA in November after taking the three-year BSc in Acupuncture course. I would highly recommend the college to anyone looking for an Acupuncture course. The support and teaching are of a very high quality and the college is always developing - making sure those standards don't slip. The NCA was the start of a new adventure for me and from the moment I stepped into the building I knew I had found somewhere special. I will forever be grateful to all the staff across all the departments for making my experience so wonderful. Life changing in the best possible way!

Sophie Kingsley: I just graduated in Nov 2023 from the NCA's MSc in Nutrition Science & Practice and had a very positive experience. The tutors and curriculum takes the holistic approach to nutrition that I was looking for in a masters course whilst being heavily grounded in up to date scientific research. Due the pandemic we had to take a lot of our lectures online which was challenging but with the support of the tutors and the cohort we still had a great time. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to gain an in depth knowledge of nutritional therapy.

Tracifer Sixsixsix: Wonderful college, I’m still a student and my journey so far has been brilliant

Nadia nadi: Wonderful institution, wonderful staff.

Becky Callicott: The Northern College of Acupuncture was one of the best decisions I ever made. I graduated from NCA over 8 years ago and have been running an Acupuncture clinic ever since.I loved my time at NCA, the work, the people, the team, the knowledge, the support were all outstanding. There was never a weekend when I didn't want to go and learn. If anyone was is thinking about studying acupuncture I would highly highly recommend them

Maciej: We love you guys 💜

Carol Cooke: Recommend to anyone considering studying Acupuncture. Wonderful place run by a supportive and nurturing team.

Irina Szmelskyj: I remember the first time I stepped into the Northern College of Acupuncture. It felt like home. Over the next four years, the teaching staff supported, encouraged and inspired me. Four years later, I graduated with a Masters Of Science Degree in Acupuncture.A few years later, I joined the teaching team and immediately felt valued and respected despite being considerably less experienced than many of my colleagues. The college's success is almost certainly due to the calm and gentle leadership of Richard Blackwell, the college's principal, who gets the best out of students and staff. Two decades on, I work in my acupuncture clinic and do research and teaching in my free time. I can't imagine doing anything else. I love how acupuncture makes a difference to my patients' lives. If you are considering studying or teaching at the Northern College of Acupuncture, just do it. You will have no regrets.

Ami Micklethwaite: If you are reading this considering whether to study at the NCA my advice is do it.. but be warned it will change your life in ways you can't imagine! Once you step behind the door you become part of a family who will support, guide and encourage you through every step of your learning journey. I can honestly say studying the BSc in Acupuncture here was the best decision I ever made. Thank you Northern College of Acupuncture!

Gillian Broughton: I’m hoping to join NCA as a new student September 2021, and have found the pre-course information and advice particularly helpful. Everyone I’ve spoken to has been really friendly and supportive and all questions have been dealt with very promptly. This creates an excellent first impression. Thanks

Laurie Heaps: I recently finished an acupuncture MSc with NCA and been practising as an acupuncturist for nearly 3 years. During my ongoing studies I have found the staff to be knowledgeable in both theoretical and practical applications of acupuncture; interested in students views and questions; flexible and supportive. The management team really want to support students through their studies and appreciate the life changes many people make to study with them. The high standard of teaching provided has facilitated me to build a thriving business in a short space of time. NCA additionally supports their graduates with CPD courses and a practitioners hub with lots of great resources.

Jiayan Liu: The NCA is a wonderful college with lovely and supportive teachers, even when the pandemic hit, our tutors supported us in all of our work. The BSc Acupuncture degree is a life changing experience for me, I would recommend anyone who is considering studying Chinese medicine to come here.

Miriam McDonald: , but it means I can stand proud when

Teo Chun Yong: There is no perfect system and there is always room for improvement. The college does take feedback seriously. Due to unforeseen circumstances, last year, I had to disrupt my module prematurely. Before I left, I send in my feedback and when I am back at the module this year, I am pleased to note that most of my feedback has been incorporated. Previously I also sent in feedback on how the syllabus can be more flexible. Although I am not sure if my feedback was eventually accepted, I do not feel that I am being unfairly judged for giving feedback.

David Hartmann: for six months now and have loved every minute of it.Having taught at quite a few Chinese medicine institutions around the world since 2000, I have had a range of different experiences, not always positive ones. The biggest issue I have faced over the years is that most institutions have not valued me for all that I offer.I have not had that experience with the NCA. The director, staff, fellow module leaders and students treat me with dignity and respect and I feel empowered by this.I have total confidence in recommending the NCA for anyone thinking of studying

Sarah Crockford: I graduated from the NCA in 2019. This course has changed my life and I now have a thriving practice. The level of support is second to none; all the staff and tutors make an effort to get to know you and they are always on hand to get you through the challenges. Classes are small so you are always able to ask questions and get the support you need as an individual. When you meet other graduates from the NCA you feel like you're part of one big family. Don't be under any illusion thst this course is easy, it will test your stamina, character and frazzle your brain but if you're serious about becoming an acupuncturist, go here.

Chris Crockford: Seven months ago I qualified as an acupuncturist after thee years of study. I am so thankful to the staff for their support during this time because as a mature student I was not used to working at this level. The college gave an incredible amount of support compared to what I expected. A lot of institutions are very large, and faceless, however the relatively small size of the NCA means that everyone knows you by name. For me, studying at the NCA has been a life changing experience and am happy to recommend the course to anyone considering a career change.

Susannah Bentley: I graduated from the Northern College of Acupuncture 2 years ago exactly! I would highly recommend studying here. What I liked so much about this college is the fact that it is a small establishment, everyone knows your name and you are not just a number. The tutors are fantastic in supporting you through the degree, for me it had been many years since I had studied and always thought a degree was beyond me. The support and help you receive is superb. Many of the tutors are practising acupuncturists so they have first hand experience of what it is like in the real world of Acupuncture. It was just a great experience. Plus you are in York, what better place to study!

Hannah Green: I came in with my nearly 10 month old who wasn’t hitting her physical milestones due to tight muscles left over from forceps. She is now nearly 1 and is well on her way to crawling and rolling about. Thank you so much Sophie, you have really helped my daughter feel better and well enough to get moving.

Sarah C: with Bowen technique

A T: If I would not started my treatment with Tom, I would definitely not be in a good place today so thank you 🙂I cannot recommend Tom enough so I will not even try - you need to check yourself but you will not be disappointed 😉

Now trying to find a way of getting a GP that will let me have this treatment on the NHS. Sadly my GP claims they’ve never heard of osteopaths being covered by the NHS.
