Hayley listened to our family and put together a funeral that reflected my mum's wishes. Her team went the extra mile to provide orders of service in Braille for family members who are visually impaired. In what is a difficult time for families, I found all staff at Hayley Owen Funeral Directors sympathetic and understanding. They were highly competent and made sure everything was taken care of. I liked the fact they did everything for me after the initial meeting. There is enough to do when dealing with a relatives death, and they made it a lot easier.

Hayley Owen's has been fantastic throughout the whole process from coming out to the house to meet with my brother before he passed, to guiding me through the process of what needed to happen after, and helped take a lot of arrangements from my shoulders. On the day of the funeral Hayley and her team were so helpful and polite, they really did help a difficult day go smoothly.

Arranging my own mothers funeral was the most difficult thing to do, but Hayley are her team helped an awful process be so much nicer. From having a selection of caskets to choose from (the seagrass was lovely - just perfect for my mum). I’m not sure if all funeral directors do as much as Hayley does, but from liaising with the wake venue, the humanist celebrant, the flowers and sorting the order of service - they took so much stress away with their flawless organisational skills, and it was much more than I expected. Also the finishing touches: the personalised collection box and the touching angel card (that has flower seeds on) I received in the post after the funeral. Hayley’s team do an amazing job, and I would thoroughly recommend them.

Upon the sudden loss of my Father I found myself facing in charge of having to arrange a funeral and everything that comes with that responsibility. Not knowing where to start I was provided a list of local options. I began with Google and as soon as I read Hayley's website I made my choice as I felt her approach and morals matched my own. Quite simply it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Hayley and her team were genuinely kind and caring and took a proactive approach to everything. They noted everything that I asked for and fluidly made changes as I wavered between my choices. Nothing I asked was too much for them to accommodate. Without having to go into detail too far, they proactively did everything I needed and more. Unfortunately I have spent far too many occasions in chapels of rest. Most of them impersonal and unpleasant. I cannot stress enough how beautiful Hayley has her chapel of rest set out. It was comfortable and welcoming allowing me to spend the time needed with Dad. On the day of the funeral everything went beautifully and as planned, it was all I wished for. Hayley even came out of her way to drop dad's ashes with me after helping me choose a suitable beautiful scatter tube. The Unattended Funeral is a lower cost option that allows family and friends to remember your loved one in their own way, without the need for a traditional service or ceremony.

All of the Staff at J. Rymer (but notably Heather, P.J. and Andrew, who were primarily looking after me have been consummate professionals, providing a superb service and handling all arrangements for my late Mum’s Funeral in such an incredibly caring, sensitive and empathetic manner, and with attention being paid to every detail. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and their support, guidance, and counsel were very much appreciated. At all times they treated my darling Mum with the utmost kindness and respect, and provided much needed comfort and reassurance for myself, during some of the most darkest days of my life. On the day of the Funeral itself, proceedings were coordinated with such dignity, grace and reverence and with such exceptional caring touches, all of which helped to both honour and celebrate my Mum’s life in such a meaningful way. I was consistently treated as an individual, not a clichéd number, to the extent that I actually felt as though Mum and I were the only people being cared for by them, despite the obvious fact that they are extremely busy, taking care of families around the clock, each and every day. York Crematorium offers a high standard of care and support to each member of the community, regardless of their beliefs and culture, so you can have a cremation service which is meaningful to you and your loved ones.

The office at York Crematorium is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.00pm.

Opening times September to March are the same as above, but the grounds and chapel of remembrance close at dusk.

York Crematorium is just off the A64 on Bishopthorpe Road near the village of Bishopthorpe and Bishopthorpe Palace. Download a location map for York crematorium.

York is the nearest railway station, and taxis from there take about 10 minutes. You can also catch a Number 11 (indigo line) bus from opposite the station; timetables and route information are available on the i-Travel York website.

From the M1 or A1 take the A64 intersection and the crematorium is off the A64 signposted Bishopthorpe. From the west on the M62, join the M1 northbound until you reach the intersection with the A64.

Toilets are available in the waiting room adjacent to the White Rose Chapel and Ebor Chapel, from Monday to Friday. These toilets are also available on Saturdays if there is a service taking place.

The crematorium is fully wheelchair accessible and there are disabled toilets. There is also one wheelchair that can be used by visitors.

Other toilet facilities are available for those visiting the grounds. Baby changing facilities are available.
