Gillies Fabrics: what do users think?
Rich B: Excellent fabric shop with a huge range of fabrics. Owners very knowledgable and helpful
Gabrielle Feetham: Terrible
Fleur 123: Generally my visits have been met upon by cold staff members who tend to be unfriendly.
Gillian Black: Terrible customer service. Will not be back. One star because zero is not an option.
Peter Morris: Great range of fabrics, assorted accessories and haberdashery.
Sue Mellor: Very helpful & knowledgeable staff.
GRAHAM BARLOW: Fantastic range of fabrics and a huge stock of all things haberdashery. Spoilt for choice. Our 'go to' store for sewing and needlecraft
luci jakeman: Absolutely exceptional service. The young lady helped me by converting DMC numbers to Anchor, then helped me pick out some lovely fabric for dressmaking. Must have spent about 15 minutes helping me & seemed happy to do it. Will definitely be going back.
Gemma Boston: I love it
maureen lawrence: Lovely big shop lots of choice.
Stacey Kingsley: We think we were served by the owner who was fabulous. Incredible service with a wealth of knowledge. Recommend 100%. Thank you so much Gillies Fabrics. Now we can make an amazing Mother of the Bride jacket.
V&E Knighton: brilliant specialist shop with extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff. I bought a sewing machine at Gillies, to replace a rubbish one bought on the internet. Not only did I get expert advice on the chosen brand, an offer on an upgrade from what I had planned to buy but also a very kind offer to carry the new purchase all the way to my car! They also have an in-house specialist engineer and repair workshop above the shop. Please support the last independent sewing shop in town! I'm glad I did. Thank you Gillies!
John Stead: A very well stocked fabric shop with lots of other sewing related items. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Mohammad Alaei: Produced by Iranians of Masjid SuleimanNaftun plot next to Farhangian Hall
kenneth cartwright: Lots of fabrics,Good selection of sewing/ embroidery machines and parts. Although we did not find what we wanted ,personal taste different to the stocked items.
SJ Hannahs: I bought a sewing machine at Gillies in December. They had exactly the model I was looking for *and* provided excellent advice and service (including posting the machine to me, as I don't live in York and travel by train). I recommend them unreservedly!!
Team Donkey: Great advice and recommendation from the experienced Gillies stafff for the basic sewing machine I needed for my wife. Only a few days before Christmas so a last minute purchase but very happy with the Janome J3-24 I was recommended. Will be perfect for our needs.
C.a. 0105: Zoe was so knowledgeable and helpful in helping me to buy a new sewing machine, and delivered my machine to my house really quickly. I'm a regular at Gillies, recommend the shop to friends and family and will definitely be shopping here again. Please shop local if you can, we're so lucky to have a shop like Gillies here in York!Edit: Today I had an issue with my machine (the machine wasn't faulty, it was just how I had threaded it) and after several hours of exasperation, I rang Gillies with no idea of what else to do. The person I spoke to immediately stopped to help me, talked everything through patiently and kindly, and solved the problem without me having to take the machine in. Couldn’t have had a better after sales experience!
Tracey Thompson: Recently bought a sewing machine from here. I went in looking for a specific model, which they had, and after having a chat with a member of staff who was very knowledgeable about every machine they sell, I finally decided on a machine that we agreed would provide me with all the features I required. Great service, very friendly and really knowledgeable.
Barbara Lodge: Highly recommended for advice on sewing machines. Wide variety of fabrics on offer.
Grace Mclaughlin: The staff went above and beyond: they listened to our needs; demonstrated the machines showing real knowledge; didn’t try to push the most expensive, but what would work for us,, and then took our machine for us all through town to where we were parked so we didn’t have to struggle with it. You don’t get service like that often nowadays,, but you do at Gillies, Fabrics!
