Kapadokya 50 is a traditional Turkish run family restaurant, owned by Hayati & Mithat Kucukkoylu. It is situated in the city centre of York, North Yorkshire with easy access to public transport including a good bus network, and it is only a short walk from York Railway Station and within easy walking distance of all the major city centre hotels.
The food is cooked on a traditional BBQ grill and is all freshly sourced and prepared every day. Choose from a wide selection of starters and main courses including marinated meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes, complemented with fresh salads and a delightful range of traditional Turkish desserts.

Most people who are interested in travel will know of Kapadokya, the area of Turkey after which the restaurant takes its name, and which is famous for its spectacular cave-like houses and temples.
Kapadokya is a prime agricultural region and survives as a name for one of Turkey’s most visited tourist areas. The history of Kapadokya began with the eruption of two volcanoes that spread a thick layer of hot volcanic ash over the region. The volcanic ash hardened and became ‘tufa’, a soft porous stone that over time was moulded by the wind and rain into the strange conical towers we see today. These shapes with their harder tops are known as ‘fairy chimneys’ which were used as homes.
In more recent times the fairy chimneys are used as cold storage for lemons and apricots grown nearby. People come from all over the world to visit the open air museum and explore the rock hewn churches and dwellings in the surrounding valleys to gaze at the fairy chimneys and plumb the depths of the underground cities of the beautiful, breathtaking Kapadokya.
Mitat, the owner, wanted to create a restaurant which looked right aswell as offering a fine menu. He brought in designer Phil Cook ofScarborough to create the right appearance, and Phil has combined oldand new ideas.

We were in the mood for some Asian food and came across Chutni.It seemed to be very highly rated so we through we'd give it a shot.The restaurant is located a bit further out from York centre, but don't let this put you off.When we walked in we were met by the owner, who was very pleasant. He took us to our table and I noticed the lovely décor straight away. As this was our first time at Chutni, the owner walked us through the menu and made some great recommendations. We decided to go with his suggestions.The food came quickly and all I can say is WOW! The food tasted amazing and had a great spice. You could tell everything had been made fresh with quality ingredients and great care taken.If you're looking for a quality, independent, family run restaurant, then Chutni is for you. We will definitely be back next time we return to York.
Zain H: Came across this gem by chance and ended up visiting two nights in a row. Fantastic little restaurant tucked away in York the food was akin to home food and the owners were great hosts highly recommend for anyone visiting York an evening meal, the cheese pancake was a real bonus!!

ian lewis: Like others stumbled across this little place Almaz, Saahil was our server. Excellent service and the food was fantastic. The flavours were out of this world. We had a large selection and not a single dish disappointed with the flavours. Did read some of the other reviews glad we ignored them. Recommend highly, we did visit a tapas with great reviews last night but sadly no flavours and at best a 3 for the service only. Oh the wife loves the cocktails. The toilets were also very clean and smelled great for a gents toilet.

CazzaRazz: This was my second visit to the Bengal Brasserie, my first time was a couple of years ago while I was visiting from my home in The Netherlands.My first experience was amazing, the food was delicious and the service was great. Everyone was welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Naturally my friends and I wanted to go again for another meal, again my experience was the same. It is one of the best restaurants I have been to for Indian food. Thank you and I will definitely see you again 🙏🏼

Food n Places: As it was Monday and early, it wasn’t busy.When I eat out somewhere new, I look for the hygiene rating and reviews.Any food hygiene rating below an 4 gets a miss.Any restaurant’s average rating below a 4 usually gets a miss.The food MUST be hot and so to the plates, if they’re not, I’m unlikely to return.Both of the staff that we encountered were polite and friendly, and service was great.Mixed kebab was good.Chicken Naga, the best I’ve ever had. Perfect.My wife’s Chicken Rezella was also very nice.Mushroom rice and chips to share also didn’t disappoint.We’ve visited the Bengal Brasserie and Bombay spice in the area and the meals at the Raj, imo, were superior.The interior is dated though, but times are tough at the moment for restaurants to fund refurbsVery small nitpick - Staff could do with being in a uniform.5 star hygiene rating.Decent Google rating.Food and plates hot.And the meals worth every penny.Would I return?? If we are in the area again, 100% we will return.

Brittany Hayes: We recently ordered a takeaway from York Tandoori and were thoroughly impressed! The delivery was prompt, and the food arrived hot and fresh. The rogan Josh with lamb was absolutely delicious, easily the best we've ever tasted. What also stood out was their exceptional care and consideration regarding my nut allergy; they ensured our meal was safe and allergen-free. Overall, a fantastic experience, and we will definitely be ordering from York Tandoori again! Highly recommended!
Christopher Plows: Delicious Indian food. Ordered a delivery take-out and it took a bit longer to arrive than stated on the web site but it was totally worth the wait. The best Indian food I've had in York, ordered lamb dansak - great portion size, tender lamb and really tasty sauce. Asked for it fairly spicy and it was perfect, not just extra chili thrown in like so many other places do but a careful addition of extra spices. The pilau rice was excellent too, long grain and obviously good quality.Some extra poppadoms too which was a nice gesture.Best curry I've had since I moved back to York from West Yorkshire, been searching for food like this and now I've found it.I'll eat in next time.Highly recommended.
Bongiilino Hopkins: Went alone at 10pm and was the only customer - polite and friendly service. The food was sensational. Was recommended the special chicken curry, and also ordered the mixed pilau rice, papadum and aloo gobi. The first three were incredible. Aloo Gobi was okay. They offer 10% discounts for students as well. Incredible - will be back next time I’m in York
Loz Davis: Visted york tandori last night and i can honestly say its one of the best currys ive ever had.The oinion bhaji were crispy on the outside and soft inside just how they should be.The Staff were lovely and attentive, coming over to make sure we didn't need anything else.Everywhere was busy in the centre which im happy about because we wouldnt of stumbled upon this Gem of a place.

The restaurant is impeccably clean and the waiting staff were very quick efficient and friendly. Shout out to Mr Nazrul and his team.We ordered the prawn special with green beans , butter chicken , dhaal and saag with fresh naanFrom an Islamic point of view they do not serve alcohol.Thank you ! Sami A: We came to break our iftaar here after we were recommended by a regular, the restaurant was cosy with nice decor and the staff were very friendly and provided amazing customer service. The food was amazing and had authentic south Asian food, which was adapted to our spice tolerance. As a south Asian myself, I normally find food to be bland in York but this was far from bland. Overall I really enjoyed my time here and will be coming again
