Cafe No.8 Bistro: what do users think?
Russell Cobb: Really lovely Sunday lunch sat in the room at the back looking at the City Walls. Fab roast beef with best yorkshire pudding. Warm friendly welcome and atmosphere. A great place to eat and relax. Thanks very much!
Amanda Picken: Amazing service, delicious clever food, wonderful ambiance. Would absolutely recommend this wonderful bistro.
TR S: Excellent food but the chowder that accompanied the sea bream was a thing of wonder.
Helen Morris: Absolutely outstanding, you made my husbands birthday complete. Thank you. Such beautiful food and lovely friendly staff. My husband did not want the Banoffee Pie to end
Sophie Nairac: Beautifully cooked food and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Scott Anscomb: Fabulous food and service once again. Definitely recommend. Took our guests who were visiting York and they were also immensely impressed. Thank you Martin and team, we will definitely be back. Cheers, Scott.
Venceslas Devillard: We booked in advanced and spent a great night. We were seated in the backyard room and it was cosy and relatively quiet. The food was good and we went for a mix of seafood and meat.I definitely recommend the banoffee pie that was really good.
Tim Crome: Good sized portions of very tasty food. Great little Bistro just outside the city walls.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Banoffee Pie, Beef Bourguignon …More
Stewart Blair: Saw this place online and thought it was worth a shot. We ate here on a Friday evening and it was one of the best meals I've eaten in a very long time. Lovely little restaurant with great service and superb food. Not the cheapest but it was worth every penny. We'll be back next time we're in York.
Kevin Wright: Delicious Sunday lunch
Sonia Senior: Possibly the best food we have ever tasted! A real gem of a bistro.Friendly, welcoming staff, pleasant bistro style decor, prompt service. All really good. But the food is the star....as it should be!Good traditional bistro style meals but with additional flavours that are beautifully complimentary to each dish. All beautifully cooked. Black pudding with an oozing poached egg. Lamb leg joint with a tasty jus and beautiful salsa Verde....and the heritage beetroot was divine! As for the puddings..... heavenly! We wanted to pick up and lick the plates!👏👏👏to all the staff at no 8 bistro but particularly to the chef!
alexandre morisseau: De bon plats bien équilibrésUn bon serviceUne adresse à recommanderGood job

Craig Stapleton: Absolutely gorgeous food. Fantastic flavours, perfectly balanced. The service is really friendly - personal but not intrusive. An excellent find that I can't recommend highly enough. A short but perfectly delivered menu - just how a good restaurant should be. Treat yourself to top level food without the top level prices. We'll be back soon!
Vicky Chapman: What an absolutely splendid meal in such an unassuming restaurant. A place where the foods speaks for itsself. Together with a small but perfect wine menue and quiet hospitabIe service. First class, thank you for such a fantastic experience xxx
Ian Guiver: We had a really fantastic experience last night. The food and wine menu are both short and perfectly chosen. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The atmosphere great, music spot-on for a relaxing vibe but the owners and their staff really make the place. This is a restaurant with heart that's wonderfully different from the soulless here today gone tomorrow places that seem to be everywhere nowadays. We make an annual trip to York to the Nine Lessons at the Minster and this restaurant will now be part of our trip in future. Totally recommend a visit.
John Brown: Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5More
Rex Petty: Turned up on spec and received warmly without question. The food was wonderful and the service better. Will visit again, the 260 miles from home will be worth it. Excellent ☺️
Dopa Mina: From the minute I entered the place I knew I would love it. The aesthetic of the Bistro is both welcoming and comfortable; and it makes you feel at home. We ordered the chicken liver parfait for both starters and then the fillet steak and sea bream for mains. The food was all exceptional, the service was immaculate & all of that in a peaceful and picturesque environment. Finished the meal with a banoffee pie and a baileys coffee. Final verdict 10/10….Hats off to the owners, I can’t say one bad word about it! Definitely one to visit. Would recommend x 10!!!
Allison Hallam: Simply wonderful. The food was stunning, the atmosphere really calm and enjoyable, and the cost for 3 courses each and 2 drinks each was more than surprising. My goats cheese starter was pure perfection and the pork was the best I've tasted in a long time. I've been to many, many good restaurants but Cafe No.8 Bistro is in my top 5.

Le Cochon Aveugle: what do users think?
Hannah Benwell: The menu was outstanding. I had a birthday gift of Le Gavroche, which was incredible. This place is better. The food and wine pairings were unusual and perfect. Particularly the iced cider orange wine and savignan ones which I haven't ever tasted. The service was perfect. Everyone should try the smoke eel. Also I normally won't eat an oyster but this was incredible. You have 2 weeks people before it closes, you have been warned.
Surekha Dhir: We have been there about 5 times and it's food heaven. Josh creates tasting menus you can't even imagine ....deserves a 3 Michelin stars 💕💕💕
Daniel Catalin Bala: Strong essences are kept in small boxes"...A fascinating place, made by fascinating people.
Ashley Hanley: Best Taste
Neill Horie: A fantastic menu and experience, and one which has improved significantly on the already great foundations over/since lockdown. Each dish and course was delicious and flowed nicely into each other, with some wonderful staples and changes over time as the menu has changed. As it is a blind menu I won't mention which dishes I enjoyed the most, but it was all thoroughly enjoyable - although you should look out for the macarons if they are still on the menu. The wine pairing was always one of Le Cochon Aveugle's strengths, and this has been retained with the renewed focus in their food, and pair beautifully. In addition, last time my partner and I also tried both the wine and soft pairings, sharing both of them, and I highly recommend doing so. They were delicious, experimental and often unexpected. Sometimes the drink from each menu also paired beautifully together in addition to just with the food, making for a continually changing collection of flavours and textures.Le Cochon Aveugle has cemented itself as my favourite restaurant in York.
Ian Redfearn: A fantastic evening. Food of the highest quality, making the most of some superb produce.Service friendly and unpretentious and an excellent wine pairing.
Judy Getty: Unbelievable! A fab experience from start to finish. The attention to detail of every tiny element of this evening was incredible. The surprise with each course made it so fun and exciting - with great service and a narrative to make each dish come alive. The food itself has phenomonal flavours that linger and grow in your mouth, and the wine pairing took it to a different level. Exceptional all round... Well done team cochon!
Andy Copland: My wife took me here for my birthday sitting at the chefs table and it was fantastic! The wine pairing was very good with some interesting wines for each course, but the non alcoholic pairing was exceptional. This is a restaurant that is experimenting and trying new ideas so be prepared to just roll with the menu and enjoy.Only a matter of time until it gets recognised and starts winning awards.
georgina White: Beyond incredible experience. Fantastic food, beautifully presented, amazing art and incredibly tasty. Great service and probably in my top 5 of restaurants (and I've been very lucky to go to some incredible ones). Fabulous experience I'll treasure for a long time
Darrell Gale: Amazing experience that I won't forget. The scallop alone deserves 5*s
Sigal Blonder: Fantastic tasting dinner. Very interesting dishes (and of course tasteful) in a very warm atmosphere. Lovely
N Cooper: Unfortunately I cannot share my experience as we will not be able to eat at this restaurant tonight to celebrate a dear friends special birthday...as they no longer cater for Vegetarian or Pescatarians.I have eaten here in the past and had a wonderful Vegetarian meal...such a disappointment. We added this information to our booking request but nobody pointed this out when the booking was confirmed. We are now left £200 out of pocket as they are still charging my friend who made the booking. Despite it appears already filling some of the 4 covers.Perhaps the management will gain a conscience and refund the money? We can only hope!
Sarah Golding: Terrible customer serviceI’m writing this review with great sadness. I’ve been to the restaurant many times before with my partner and friends and have recommended to many over the years. We’ve seen the couple who own the business and the business itself flourish and have felt very happy about this. We even supported the business through lockdown by using their home delivery service. I was very excited to be coming back to the physical restaurant tonight to celebrate a good friends 40th birthday.Unfortunately this is not to be the case. After speaking with the owner to confirm our reservation I was informed that the tasting menu does not cater for vegetarians or pescatarians. Only one menu is offered for all guests. Of our party of 4, half can not be catered for. Apparently this is stated clearly, sadly I missed it. Never in my wildest dreams did I think a restaurant of such previous high standards (well any restaurant actually!) would not cater for such a huge part of the population. Upon querying this, as I’ve dined there before with a vegetarian friend, this is a recent change. To add further insult to a terrible situation (we’re due there to surprise my friend in 7 hours from taking the phone call!) we will be charged £50 per head.I’m not unreasonable I understand they have a business to run. I offered a number of what I consider reasonable solutions and to salvage a bad situation. I offered to pay the £200 today and rebook for a different date with meat and fish eating friends. This was instantly dismissed as an option. I was left with only 2. Bring my non meat and fish eating friends to the restaurant regardless or pay £200 for nothing.I was repeatedly told it’s clear on the website and in the t’s and c’s. In all honesty I just did not expect such low standards from this restaurant and as I said before have been catered for in this way in the past.It is also obvious the restaurant have now filled half of our booking via Instagram and in all likelihood will refill the whole booking before this evening. I’ve suggested a refund on my deposit if this is the case. So far zero response which is again a huge disappointment as it took less than a minute to debit my card £200.I’m grateful York has many other great restaurants that accommodate what I’d consider very basic requirements and in fact more complex ones such as my husbands hatred of garlic. Now to find an alternative venue for my friends birthday……..
Michael Rowles: Out of this world taster menu. Worth every penny. Deliscous taste sensation with every mouthful. Staff and experience were amazing.
Ian Brindle: Absolutely superb, a real experience. Staff were delightful and we had a wonderful evening
Nigel Boylin: What a fabulous experience and the tasting menu was out of this world. The 3 chefs and both waitresses were first class and it is a venue worthy of a visit. Only small place but a mighty big food experience. Each course was a wonderful gastronomic experience that tantalised your taste buds.
Mark Nicol: Eaten at Le Cochon Aveugle twice, and was blown away both times. The food, the wine, the ambience and the service are all 1st class.I have eaten at some one and two Michelin star restaurants in the past and can hand on heart say that this little place is equally as good. How the Le Cochon Aveugle hasn’t recieved a Michelin Star yet is beyond my understanding!Thank you
Andrea Seed: Delightful taster menu, very filling.friendly helpful staff who knew what they were doing. Felt very full when we were given a bag of spiced gingerbread to bring home, yummy. Wheelchair accessible, good roomy toilet. Aesop toiletries.
Sam Evans: The food is exceptional! Made to feel very welcome as soon as we walked through the door. We both left feeling very full! This is a huge treat for us but was well worth it due to experience of being on the chefs table.
John Pocklington: Blind tasting menu evening, absolutely phenomenal food and service, second to none, thank you for a fantastic evening 😁
Adam Toulson: Ask me again when my bank manager regains consciousness.

Husbands first time in The Ivy, disappointed and quite frankly embarrassed considering how much I had praised Bath, Bristol and Cardiff. Manager did refund and offer an alternative. We left and went to a Bistro around the corner and had better. Dissatisfied.
Dianne Crowther: Excellent afternoon tea with reconnecting family , Ideal surroundings. Great service ,we were under no time restraints. The only issue was The Ivy don't have a decaffeinated tea, only coffee which you don't want with an afternoon tea.Dietary restrictions: Catered well for gluten free.

Devin Eakes: My wife and I were visiting York for the first time from the States, and we ate our first meal at Rustique. This was the best meal we had during our stay. Not only did we love the French comfort food, but we also really enjoyed the service and atmosphere of the restaurant.
Fay Powdrell: I would just like to thank all the waiting staff who were so lovely today while we celebrated my father in laws 95th birthday, i forgot to bring his cake and you helped us out by putting a candle in a piece of your cake so we could sing happy birthday to him, we all had a fantastic afternoon, the food is gorgeous, I can highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for some family time together.
Ji Han: My visit to Rustique was a complete disaster, to say the least. The female staff member at the reception was incredibly rude and unaccommodating. Despite our booking indicating that we would be bringing our dog with us, and we were told that we can leave our dog at the reception. However, the staff member at the front desk refused to allow our furry friend into the restaurant, stating that they have a strict no-pet policy. To make matters worse, when we tried to reason with the staff member and explain that we had been given the confirmation that our dog would be allowed, she became incredibly hostile and began to raise her voice at us. It was an incredibly uncomfortable and unpleasant experience, and it completely ruined our evening. The overall attitude of the staff members was terrible, and it is clear that they do not value their customers. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you have a furry companion that you want to bring with you.

The food was excellent, everything we had was delicious and they offer a large choice of French classic dishes. The French onion soup was outstanding. The staff were friendly and the service was swift, verging on rushed but this suited us as we were dining with children. There's no children's menu but they offered several smaller options from the main menu. We will definitely return when next in York.

It was pouring with rain sadly when we visited, but I can just imagine the terrace is a stunning place to relax and unwind on a summer evening. I will definitely come back next time I visit York. Hopefully the weather will be better. The food was delicious - small portions but meant there was room to try dessert (aka cheese!).The waitress who looked after us was attentive and very friendly, she really made it a special dinner for us, thank you!The one small constructive comment would be a more adventurous wine list, but that’s simply because I am a bit of a wine lover.

ANASTASIA BELEVTSOVA: Nice chilling place, with nice view …, all staff grumpy and not friendly at all, just 2 people were glad to see us, one who was serving wine, and Mike at the bar, was smiling and glad to see us… Wasn’t pleased with welcoming …..
Flo Lo: Loved it! Great spot on the river, lovely atmosphere. Staff were attentive and service quick. We came for Sunday roast, my pork was a bit dry but husband’s beef was perfect.
Mal Danks: The food and service were very good as one would expect; both creative and tasty. One or two small niggles prevented me from giving a five star review. We waited over half an hour to be served. The music was a little invasive and the coffee was served with one paper sachet of sugar and no accompanying sweetmeat. I would have expected better finishing touches in a restaurant of this calibre.

suvodeep mazumdar: Fantastic pub with great food. The staff were lovely and suggested the beers. Choice of beer was good, although slightly limited.
Dave M: Fantastic staff, so kind and helpful and oh my god, the French dip sandwich....
Francesco Tedesco: Been for lunch, place is nice and reasonably priced. Double check your bill as they tried to charge for something we didn't order.Avocado on toast was bland, posh fish fingers sandwich was nice but vegetable salad had no leafs in it at all and bland.Slightly disappointed to be honest.
victoria carty: Absolutely shocking - we were only in there 5 minutes. There were plenty of tables free, but we couldn’t have a drink inside, even though we had 2 children with us. The response from the general manager was appalling when I complained - I was a terrible customer. Avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs. There are plenty of nicer places with good customer service in York, where you can have a drink inside.Just follow on - his email reply was horrendous and disrespectful. It has been forwarded on to the owners of Layton Hill Hotels. The restaurant was almost empty - not a good sign in itself. All this over a coffee, you couldn’t write it.
Lisa Collins: We found this restaurant on the last night of our stay in York, I wish we'd tried it earlier, the staff and surroundings were so lovely, the menu wasn't huge, but I would have gladly worked my way through it. Beautiful food, very well cooked and delicious.Vegetarian options: They looked delicious and I was sorely tempted by the cauliflower dish.
Peter Qu: Great atmosphere, awesome food and super friendly staff
Karen Anglessy: Bonne expérience, le repas était bon, le service très bon !
Daniel Mapson: Went here for breakfast and we were very disappointed in the quality of the food. I had a bacon and sausage butty which was dry, there was no butter on the bread at all. My partner had the full English breakfast, the rosti was burned and the toast was soggy-so soggy it couldn't be buttered. On a positive note, the establishment was pretty inside, however for the price I would expect better quality food.
Greg Cole: Quality food and friendly staff sum this restaurant up nicely. The outdoor seating area is well heated and ideal for a pre-dinner aperitif. Menu choices are a bit limited, but the quality of what is there more than makes up for it. Really good location in Central York, close to the minster.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Goat's Cheese Croquettes, Yorkshire Pudding …More

David Brownhill: Great food and helpful staff. Food always good too. My son's favourite branch of WagamamaWheelchair accessibility: Good. Lots of space between tables

Honey Norfolk: Julia and Marta are absolutely amazing! The food was incredible and we received the loveliest service. Thank you so much, we will definitely be back ! x
Eleanor Lomas: Had an absolutely great experience at Wagamama York this evening. Julia and Marta were amazing. Great Service and the food was delicious.
rosie knight: First time at this franchise the staff are very attentive, the food is greatDietary restrictions: I have allergies and was surprised at how quickly I was servedFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Wagamama Ramen, Hirata Steamed Buns - Pork Belly Panko Apple Sriracha …More
Jeff Shurak: Great food....only if you eat in. Pass on delivery. Multiple times the ramen has been delivered with the noodles and broth together. Sadly, this results in much of the broth being absorbed by the noodles. The end result is a bowl of soggy sad noodles. Its a shame because fresh, its quite tasty.
Kate: Love Wagamamas overall and the food is great. The staff were as always friendly and attentive. Unfortunately what let it down this time was the cleanliness. Everything felt a bit grubby and unclean. There was food, chopsticks and dirt under our table. The glasses looked like they could do with a good clean and the toilets were quite unpleasant with no toilet paper. It all looked a bit tired, as if no one really cared. It hasn’t put me off from going again, maybe they were short staffed, but the whole restaurant looked like it needed a bit of love.
Peter P.: Delicious ramen but wait a bit too long for the bill.Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
samanjerry jerry: Food was better than I thought from a big chain. Service was a little slow for there only being 4 tablesFood: 4/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 3/5 …More
Masprapa Limvirat: The yaki udon was too blended. They needed more sauce but the udon is cook nicely. The chicken and shrimp rice is a bit salty for my aunt however i like it. The staff are all super nice and friendly.
mollie-anne Harris: Brilliant food and great service!!! Ellie(sorry I may have forgotten her name!)Was brilliant, really made us feel welcome and helped us with the choice on the menu
William Kay: Went here by accident found the place really clean and the service was pretty good although she forgot we wanted dessert 🍨Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes …More
Kevin Lesser: Still my favourite type of food. Food filled with deliciousness and eye stimulating colours. If you enjoy fresh and oriental type food, Wagamama is a must try. Staff are well trained and understand customer service. The menu is interesting and has a number of alternatives for vegans 🥑 which looked just as enticing to a non-vegan. The prices are not insane but also not fast-food prices. The sharp flavours and crispy vegetables 🥗 will make you feel that the food is value for money. Go forth and enjoy!
Gary Jenkins: Holly was awesomeFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Johnny: Really enjoyed the ramen here.Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

University of York: what do users think?
poonam Kapoor popli: We are a leading UK university for academic excellence. We are ranked 162nd in the QS World University Rankings 2023 and we have nine world top 100 subjects in the QS World University Rankings by subject 2022.Very nice interior..They've huge space..Maintained very good.
Sajib Rahman: The university is very helpful to the students. I did apply for the PhD scholarship and i was needed for help to make my application successful. And I did call to PG admissions team and one of the expert advisors name “Priya” did very well regarding my issue and she gently explained and solved for me. And her response and behaviour was impressive. I think this is the place where students can learn from everyone and this is the place for happiness. ♥️
Dave Allen: Really great university. Lovely scenic campus with supportive lecturers and faculty. The grounds are stunning and the students friendly. Highly enioyed time here.
yash kedia: Worst university they don't give appeal decision and another chance to retake a failed module
sue nelson: At work! Never changes
Spicy Broccoli: Beautiful campus with a gorgeous lake and parks
Sam: I really liked this theme park! The rides never had queues, "Central Hall" is a great bunjee jumping bit. My only fault is that I can be very self centred. My wife thinks so. She took the house in the divorce.I took it back. By suing her. She didn't sign the prenup. I win Jane. I win.
Dan Doig: Campus has lots of greenery. Good for taking the dog to carry out his morning business
Rich M: Just had 2 days at the STEM Centre on a course. Excellent facilities, friendly staff and amazing food. The course was really useful with lots of take away ideas.
Jean Carlo Abreu: I'm student of the MSc CS, the course has material full of errors, the quality and level of service from the tutors can't be worse. The students are trying to help themselves because tutors reply is terrible slow and wrong, not sure if they actually know of the topic.
Kelechi Okegbe: Beautiful university campus.
julian punch: Excellent university
Mark Tiller: I got my degree 🤣
Ravindra Hiremath: Woh ! So much of calm prevails. Wonderful campus area.It is really a great place to study.
Kolawole Ganikale (Makola_Mambo): The University is perfect but the cost of accommodation is unrealistic.
Nipa Miah: So many people have told me the hell they went through at this RUBBISH university. It’s supposed to be a ‘red brick uni’ yet the staff are vile, the lecturers don’t care and if you need any help, well good luck because you won’t get any. Extremely unprofessional and disorganised. Disgusting uni
Eika Rodriguez: One of the best universities in UK to study
Laura Edginton: The online masters in computer science with cyber security is not for beginners even though the university advertise it as anyone can partake and learn. This masters has been awfully a hard experience. The first module algorithms and data structures is extremely hard and difficult, if you struggle to do that I would advise do not go on. The rest of the course is extremely intense and requires an individual who has good coding skills and maths skills to be able to understand. Furthermore, the most appalling part is that no matter how much you study and work hard on your assignments the markers will give you an awful mark despite you doing exactly what’s on the task sheet. I did one exam where the exam was completely different to what we was taught . York are doing nothing about this.I want to add that I work in the field of cyber security and one assignment was heavily based upon the security aspect of a company. I went above and beyond for this assignment and showed peers at my company who have years of experience. I added policies and went above and beyond I repeat- well the mark I got for this work was a pass! I was so shocked! This was the breaking point for me and I don't want to be apart of this masters however, I have a few modules left and trying to get through it.It seems that there is a theme off many students experiencing this same issue, many students have tried their best and followed instructions through but the grade doesn't satisfy their expectations.Additionally, the masters is very full on although it's part time, there's a lot of reading and activities to do which make it very difficult to always be on top of things especially if you're working or have other commitments.Furthermore, the teachers are very unhelpful , if you ask them for any kind of guidance they are so ambiguous in their responses and will copy and paste the task assignment wording if you ask for specific help to do with the assignment.I wouldn't recommend anyone to do their online masters in computer science, i can't speak for the university as a whole but the online computer science courses are extremely awful due to the lack of support and intensity. You need to come from a technical mathematical background don't let them fool you.If you do go through with this masters, you're truly awesome and will be able to take on any BS that may come your way. The content of the topics are interesting but the university and teachers are awful.
tom allen: What a great university. Like a little village of student accommodation and teaching and learning facilities. Nice grounds, and a variety of new and old buildings.
David Brownhill: Decent - but very hot !

Jack Lee: Very good food and great service 👍
Ma W: Considering all wagamama food should be the same where you go. The food here was just not all that, tierd salad and the rest not that hot. Maybe my mistake was asking for tofu in my noodles, the waitress was ok with that on ordering, but it turned up in a bowl on its own. Cold. Luckily tofu doesn't need to be cooked. When asked to make it part of the meal and warm they did it. But it still wasn't that warm. Wagamama used to employ chefs, I think now they just employ assembly staff and it shows.
