David Frayman: if you want to explore places that are a little less high cuisine.

joan leach: Spent one night in a courtyard room as a treat from my daughter. Absolutely loved it. Stunning hotel and grounds, staff where very helpful and friendly. Especially the gentleman on the door/reception, wish we had got his name. Hopefully we will be back.Rooms: The rooms seem old-fashioned, but somehow this so suits the hotel! Very clean and comfortable.Nearby activities: Close to York Town centre and Designer Outlet.

Kez Fuz: and on a quiet side street with parking that is only £5 a day just outside the property. The gentlemen who showed us in gave us lots of advice on what to do/see in York and kindly told us that we can use the kitchen downstairs in the lobby to store drinks/food if we needed to. The room was the top floor one which had 2 skylights and a well fitted en-suite bathroom 🚽. 2 nights cost £137 which was very reasonable. We would definitely come again!

Jen Duffy: The hosts gave us such a warm welcome , showed us an easier way to get to the train station for way home , carried our bags upstairs to our room ,wished us an happy anniversary, and even gave gave us a card ,our room was cozy and warm and they asked if we had everything we needed ,the provided a cot for our baby and was really sweet with him every time they saw him ,in this hotel you are welcome to buy food and cook it and gas a lovely area to rest or eat ,I would definitely stay again we had a lovely stay

Boof Edge: I stayed there on Sunday for 2 nights, for my birthday. What an excellent, enjoyable stay we had. Moss was there on our arrival, it was around 20:00, and was very friendly and attentive from the start, there doesn't seem anything that he won't do to make your stay a great one.He gave us a map and took time to show us where to go and how to get there and a few places that we were on about going.Could not fault our room, Vikings Accommodation is an absolute gem of a place. 5 minutes walk from the town, with a few nice pubs and shops on the way. Will definitely be staying there again, hopefully in March.Thank you Moss👍👍👍👍

Marion Polhill: Host is pleasant and accomodation was warm, inviting, clean and tidy. Room was lovely. Also great location for visiting the Shambles and York Minster.Rooms: My daughter and I were allowed to bring our two Chihuahuas. Everything was considered for the needs of guests.

Mary Kivlin: was so comfortable and spacious, a home away from home, so peaceful too. Both of us slept brilliantly, mind you the miles of walking we did each day helped with that. Coffee and tea facilities in room are excellent, little biscuits and chocolate too. Bathroom was fab and had everything we needed. Highly recommend as so central for going everywhere. Thanks so much for a perfect stay

Si Macmanus: Basic but decent motel to stay in, that grants easy access to the city centre and its attractions. The accessible rooms that we stayed in were very spacious and clean and had a totally flat floor throughout, which was appreciated due to mobility issues.Breakfast, however, was essentially a packed meal that contains cereal and milk with no lactose intolerance option, and a Danish and a carton of orange juice, rather than a sit-down meal, not what we expected. The attached dining in the adjacent Inn was plentiful and well prepared and reasonably priced, too. The staff were friendly and helpful as well.

Gabby Magalhaes: We stayed at Hedley House Hotel for only one night as our train was cancelled - we booked from the train station and were given an absolutely gorgeous room at a very reasonable price. It was a lovely stay, the staff were absolutely wonderful and very accommodating. We did not get a chance to sample to breakfast but it looked delicious as well! Definitely worth a visit if you are ever in York.

Sally Bibby: We stayed for two nights, super friendly hotel, very warm cosy and clean. Great facilities jacuzzi spa and restaurant.Decent shower and comfortable bed.All in all could not be happier. We will be back ❤Walkability: Close to city centre and train station

Ron Harrison: about leaving the car park at the end of the stay.Rooms: Very nice comfortable room and very friendly helpful staff

Emma Hughes: was a spot of luxury. Bathroom was beautiful and we enjoyed the sound system in there.Walkability: We paid for parking at the hotel and didn't need the car at all during our stay. The city centre was a 10 minute walk away and a convenience store was just down the road.Food & drinks: We had breakfast every morning at the hotel. There was so much to choose from, I wish we'd stayed longer so we could have tried it all.

Helen ONeill-Nash: Clean comfortable and great location to visit York.. bonus weatherspoon next door. Is what it is. Cheap and cheerful.Rooms: Basic but comfy.

amrita singh: We stayed here for 1 night and John the manager helped us a lot in getting a nice family room with good view he understood that we are with a child and helped us also he told us about nearby places very good guys 👍🏻👍🏻 recommended hotel in York 👍🏻👍🏻Rooms: Very clean

xKay Mariex: Stayed again for my birthday as it’s close to the city centre & it has a pub right next door, can hear people outside in the smoking area if you’re facing that way but nothing too noisy there. Negative is they shouldn’t state they have a quiet floor, asked to be on here as I’m autistic but as the walls are thin, you can hear people talking and even making their coffee in the middle of the night as the coffee machine is very very loud! It’s a good place to stay if you want to be close to things just know there’s noise and no quiet floor as the walls are really thin!!! Get ear plugs if you wanna stay here.

Ron Blakey: Booked in for 3 nights while exploring York. Arrived 20 minutes prior to check in time but not an issue. We were given keys straight away and able to access our room. Good size room for a standard plus. Bathroom also spacious. Had to ask at reception for a hairdryer and also a replacement coffee machine as ours was not working. Hairdryer was supplied immediately and replacement coffee machine within an hour. The hotel doesn't have food but found a witherspoon pub right next door. Location of hotel is very close to some attractions such as Jorvik centre and Clifford's Tower. Bed is king size and very comfortable. Great value for the money on a 3 night stayRooms: Large room and bathroom. King size bed, 32" Samsung freeview TV. Office chair and armchair with full length desk. Lavazza coffee machine as well as kettle for tea etc.Nearby activities: Walking distance to York Minster, Jorvik viking centre, Clifford's Tower and York Castle museum. Plus main shopping area and Shambles marketWalkability: Mostly flat around the hotel and walking into main centre. Only warning is some parts of pavement on way into and around centre is cobbled so may be awkward if you have walking difficulties

Elmbank Hotel: what do users think?

Lee Cooper: Had a fantastic one night stay at Elmbank and I can confirm, we will 100% be staying here again. The hotel is well located, not far from the racecourse and literally a five minute drive into the town centre. The hotel looks nice from the outside, but is beautiful on the inside. All areas have traditional wooden panelling on the walls with original and authentic windows and decorative features. After checking in we were given our room key and advised where to go to find our room, please be advised there is no lift at this hotel, so be mindful of this if you are thinking of booking in.Our room was gorgeous, light, airy, well decorated and very, very comfortable. Our room had a safe, hairdryer, TV, tea/coffee making facilities and a Nespresso type machine. This is an upgraded room though, but the extra cost was certainly worth it.We also added an evening meal and breakfast to our booking and again, the cost was well worth it because the food was excellent. The evening meal can be selected from a “wine and dine” menu where you can select a couple of steak meals, a grilled chicken meal and a salmon dish. You select a sauce, two sides and a bottle of wine, all were superb in my opinion. For breakfast, there is a continental buffet style area, but there is also a cooked to order breakfast as well, where you can select from a full English and other options, again, all the food was lovely. There is a bar area as well where you can go to enjoy a drink or two. This area is quite small though, probably enough seating for about ten people, then about six bar stools, so if busy, I could imagine it getting very cramped, but it shouldn’t take away from the overall appeal of this place. The dining area is also quite small, but you book your eating time so finding a table to eat is not an issue. When we had breakfast though, people had to wait for a table due to all tables being full, think this was due to people taking longer to finish their breakfasts though, but maybe spreading out seating times may resolve this, or have a longer breakfast period because here it ends at 9.45am.Please also note, there is very limited parking available here, so if you are thinking of driving here, be prepared that you may need to park a bit away and walk a bit. These are tiny little niggles though and as stated, takes nothing away from this great hotel.Every single member of staff we interacted with during our stay were lovely, super happy, friendly, polite, professional and nothing was too much trouble, a true credit indeed. If you are thinking of visiting York, I can’t recommend staying at Elmbank enough.

jeffrey orrell: As we had previously been here 3 years ago we decided to book again for a few days away, first of all the hotel is a great place to explore York with a short 10-15 minutes stroll to the shops, however parking is a issue, only a precious few free spaces are available, there is parking nearby in a school which costs approximately 1.50 per hour... overnight stay will cost you 12.50..., anyway once parked up you can leave it happily and go off exploring, we stayed in a classic room, it was tidy and seemed well maintained, bathroom was clean and had a lovely full shower cubicle, king size bed was nice and soft, in the room there's also a ironing board and iron, hairdryer and big TV, so everything you need really, we also paid extra for breakfast, well worth the extra money, plenty of choice from a cooked breakfast to Danish pastries, so yes very good trip, enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone wanting a bolt hole to explore the city

Thea Handley: Lovely hotelTasteful classy decorSuper friendly pleasant and helpful staffLots of attention to detailRooms: Impressive bathroomsComfortable bedsWarm comfortable roomsWith all needed for a good time awayFood & drinks: Breakfast very impressiveQuality ingredients with good servicePoached eggs are perfectly cookedGood selection of breakfast choices

David Corbett: , lovely bathroom with an amazing shower and extremely comfortable bed. Bar off the lobby is very comfortable and prices were more than reasonable. We shall definitely be revisiting for another stay soon.Walkability: Short 20min walk into the center of town

Lidia: We have been in this inn at the end of april. Steve has welcomed us very friendly and explained everything necessary. The rooms are a dream, really nice and beautiful from the detail. The location is also perfect. It is only 10 minutes to the city. The city of York is definitely worth seeing. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Once a day the room was also cleaned. Tea and a kettle and a hairdryer were also in the room. I highly recommend the inn!Walkability: 10 minutes to the city

Ali Bradshaw: Lovely bank holiday weekend break staying at the Friars Rest Guest House. Fantastic location with only a short walk to the city, very large room with ensuite, super clean with coffee & tea replenished daily plus parking available. Steve was a lovely host & we would highly recommend. We will book directly if ever we plan a weekend in York in the future ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Carolyn B: From booking to leaving, Steve was a great host, nothing was too much trouble. It is out of town, but free parking was a bonus. There is a bus stop nearby to get bus into centre,or, cross the road, down the lane then walk along the River to the town centre. Barbican is a short walk away. Tea,coffee supplied. No breakfast which suited us fine as you are not on a time schedule for breakfast. TV in room, shower and toilet en suite. Small space to hang clothing but adequate for 3 nights. It is on a busy road but it is so quiet when you are inside. Bed was comfortable and room was refreshed every day. Would definitely stay there again.

Simone Ryan: Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was ideal to get into York or the station quickly. The rooms was the cleanest I've ever been in, and the cleaners would replish the milk, coffee and tea. Also emptied the bin and cleaned the toliet whilst you stayed. Would definitely stay again.Walkability: Just a 20 minute walk into York

Bill Mcnamara: Rooms: ExcellentNearby activities: 10 mins from centre of YorkWalkability: In the vicinity for everything

Novotel York Centre: what do users think?

Neil Jolly: . The staff are well friendly and helpful, I booked our family room directly with the hotel over the phone, I am disabled myself, and I needed a few more details than the website gave me. I spoke with a lady called Magdalena who could not have been more helpful, sending me pictures of the room itself so I could decide if the room would suit us as a family. I would really recommend this hotel and the staff.Rooms: Very clean with more than enough room.Walkability: Very well located, between 10 and 15 minute'sFood & drinks: Very good, and good value for money.

Basil Waite: and the fridge meant I could keep my snacks cool during the day. The location was convenient and easy to walk to and the staff were always super friendly when I came and went.

Peter Noble: We dropped the kids to my grandparents in Hartlepool and booked this hotel to stay over for our anniversary.Great place to stay lots of parking and great staff. They even left us a chocolate feature and a nite to wish us happy Anniversary. Lovely touch. Upgraded room too.Breakfast was just fab also.Would definitely recommend. It also has a river walk into town from the rear of the hotel. Can't thank you enough guys.Kind regards again.Peter & Lynn

Mark Palmer: . Like a lot of Holiday Inns the decor is a bit dated although the rooms are more than adequate. Food is pricy and certainly suffered from shrinkflation and I’d recommend eating in the city for cheaper more wide range. Parking is generally okay although I have sometimes struggled for a space on busy weekends i.e. when the races are on, better monitoring of the parking entry system might be advised to the hotel. Staff are always very friendly.

Nick Allcock: Hotel on the edge of the city - 10/15 minute walk to the centre. Plenty of hotels in this area. Wetherspoons is opposite alongside a Travelodge. Rooms are comfortable and well maintained, but views are not a feature. Service is good. This hotel is good for a city break in York or a business trip. It is not glamorous or pretty but a serviceable and comfortable hotel.

Fiona Meybirn: but booked room was supposed to be twin beds and was set up as a double, so had to get that resolved.Bathroom door was very difficult to open due to issue with handle. No extra cushions on sofa etc. Only 1 chair. Extremely small wardrobe

Denise Allen: Fantastic room, staff amazingRooms: BrilliantNearby activities: FabWalkability: Good

Karen Mallord: The room was lovely and literally had everything you could want or need in it. We went for Mum's birthday and they arranged champagne on arrival and I also had flowers delivered to the room as well. The hotel is located in the quieter side of the town but within 5 minutes walking distance of everything. There is a car park just around the corner and for just under 24 hours it was £18.The hotel was booked by my son for a gift but I would definitely return.Staff are friendly and the communication is excellent.Highly recommend xx

Paul Dawson: . Only slight complaint is that acoustics between rooms is poor and that you can hear everything from the adjacent & above rooms. WiFi is also pretty poor but local 5G was pretty good. Mini bar as in most hotels is also pricey but that’s the norm these days. Staff on greeting us and booking in were very welcoming and were attentive when we came and went each day…would recommend this hotel as a comfortable place to stay and visit the city of York 👍
