GOOD FOOD SHOP: what do users think?

Antony Samson: The Good Food Shop in York is a charming and authentic delicatessen, established in 1987 and nestled in the vibrant Bishopthorpe Road community. It offers a delightful array of provisions, from lunch menus to platters, and specializes in hampers and gifts, catering to a wide range of tastes. The shop is a haven for food lovers, perfectly blending traditional values with modern offerings. Its commitment to quality and the local community makes it a must-visit destination for anyone in York.

Nina Bailey: Small shop filled to the brim with exciting goodies. Fab scotch eggs and sausage rolls, and some unusual cheeses as well as the yummy Yorkshire Blue, which is the reason I went there. Don’t miss the focaccia with olives and onions ….. The price was right too!

A C: We have been here a few times and enjoyed our food! Such lovely ingredients and food options. However, the salads can be a little tasteless and sandwiches a bit rushed so they sometimes can be a bit disappointing. But on the whole it is a nice place for a spot of lunch and go pick up some lovely grocery bits! Definitely worth a visit.

Michael Turner: Delicious sandwich for a good price with loads of options.

David: I was looking for a tasty lunch and I found just that. Tasty salad, tasty pork pie. So I’m leaving this review to say thank you! Feeling very satisfied!

Hannah Lauder: Used the Good Food Shop catering service for a private function and was so impressed. Had a party for 60 people, service and communication with Ruth was great beforehand, advised us on numbers and costs etc. Everyone at our event commented on how amazing the food was, can’t recommend them enough. Thanks so much.

Chloe Rymer: Brilliant little deli with a surprisingly large selection of stock. Excellent cheese counter - I'm very lucky to be able to have this shop nearby to use regularly.

Alexandra: A regular favourite, the food is delicious and fresh, the options are varied and reasonably priced and the staff are always lovely. Highly recommend!

Amanda Williams McNair: Cute cheese and food stuff store. Managed to find salsa verde which is so hard to procure in the UK! So that was a win all around

Carl Sedgwick: Great Pastéis de nata on a morning when warm. Great selection of sandwiches too.

Dominic Spengler: Very lovely food, sell the legendary Haxby bakery sourdough bread 🥖, nice deli, a bit pricey though

Ivan Chindurza: Great food with good variety to choose

Anne Wilson: Brilliant place for sandwiches takeaway ploughman's meze. Also plenty m the shop for foodies .

Henshelwoods Delicatessen York: what do users think?

Sabah Ismail: Had a wonderful time here with my bff, we don’t often find cafes that serve halal food and also have such a wide variety on the menu. The staff was super nice too, really helped when we had questions about the food and everything.Dietary restrictions: Halal food available

Jonathan Moxon: The food was to die for and it was so comforting and aesthetic to dine and drink from classy plates and presentation in a small, quaint cafe near the market. Me and my family ordered bruscettas, Calamari and a few other side dishes as a sort of tapas and it didn't disappoint. The Staff were so welcoming to us and our dog I would wholeheartedly recommend it!

Sameera Elnaim: Wonderful Service, BEST brunch ever. 100 percent halal, not many places like this around York however we were welcomed with wonderful smiles and staff who were very accommodating. Left feeling very full, and delighted in the wonderful brunch we have had. Friends commented ‘I have never been so impressed with a brunch place in York’ Will defo be back!We all got the English Brekki !

Luke Walther: Delightful single origin espresso from Peru! Cute shop with what looks to be quality goods. I could definitely see myself coming back to pick up gifts.

James Stevens: I went in to try and buy a jar of onion marmalade. They had no jars, but kindly gave me a small pot from the jar in their fridge which they use in sandwiches.Great service. I'll be back soon to actually buy something .

Darren Walsh: Lovely Deli 🍞🍖🥖🧀🥒🍠🍰

Mat Croshaw: , rustic veg soup and scotch egg. All really nice and proper stuff. It's a little small so not great for big groups but that suited the two of us just fine. We had a large wine and a craft beer and the total bill was £44, which we thought was good value, especially as we had plenty to take home.

Jennifer Egan: Coffee was lovely staff was lovely

Julian Wallond: Lovely deli, with a nice cafe

Rachel Crump: On the off chance passed by saw a person eating decided it looked fantastic ,we weren’t disappointed.Delicious, fresh and fantastic value and friendly attentive serviceHighly recommend

Chris A: , and a deli to top it off next door.

Field & Fawcett: what do users think?

Steven Barowik: I visited for the second time in a couple of weeks and was noticed by one of the staff who gave me a lovely welcome. The first time I acquired some of the high class Sam Smith Chocolate Stout for my darling for Valentine's, it was gleefully received. The second time I treat myself to a nice bottle of Chateau de Montifaud XO Silver. I also had a pork pie and we have a nice looking pear and frangipane tart for afters this evening. The choice of wines and Scotch is very impressive and extensive. There were good port and cognac choices as well. This is really worth a stop off if you are on the A64.Great staff, great products, what's not to like!

Daz: Ignore Matt Perry, he is a persistent bad reviewer who isn't happy until he is moaning. Excellent choice will come again

Richie Has: I go to Field and Fawcett because I know they'll have the things I can't get anywhere else and they're a great bunch of people with a lot of knowledge.

Jo Lawlor: Our first visit and definitely won’t be the last.Currently enjoying a gorgeous glass of red wine recommended by the lovely gentleman who answered a question from a novice, a very nice lady behind the cheese counter and the dark haired lady who pointed us in the right direction for what we needed.

Andrew McKevitt: Great wine merchant with wide selection of spirits and beers with a small but excellent deli counter. Helpful, knowledgeable staff

Luke Forder: We had the pleasure of coming across this beautiful store. After turning off the A road and there it was. We didn't have anything particular in mind but Michelle greeted us with such warmth we instantly felt in paradise with all round the world of wine, whisky and amazing spirits. Preserves, pies, salads and the most delicious breads enchanted our eyes. Needless to say we came out with our arms full and we will be back soon. Sensational place. Must be visited.

Edward Klose: Fantastic service. Excellent selection, extremely helpful on the phone and the wines I bought were wonderful. Will be returning for sure.

James Moore: I’ve ordered a couple of boxes of wine from this shop. The service and the wine was great but I was really disappointed by the level of plastic packaging used in shipping. It feels totally unnecessary to be using single use plastic packaging to ship wine in 2022. Will no longer shop online with these guys until they find a more sustainable way of packaging their product.

Maureen Cox: Great extensive selection of wines. Some nice cheeses, preserves, and chocolate.

Paul Wyer: Excellent choice of Whisky and wine. Cheeses and other spirits and very special I can't go past everytime I'm there.

Kay Stead: Our go-to place for wines and spirits. Takes the guesswork out of purchasing! Great advice from people who really know their products. Scrumptious deli foods too.

Michael Newby: Great wines good deli haven't had a bad bottle yet.

Jamie Mercer: It's all about the whisky for me, we are short of good whisky choice where i live. Worth driving for an hour to browse the excellent display and pick up a couple of bottles like I have done a couple of times. Staff are always friendly in store, on the telephone and they're very responsive via email.

Waitrose & Partners York: what do users think?

Helen Elliott: Had coffee and toast in the cafe on a Sunday morning, both lovely. The queue wasn't long but the service was very very slow. The cafe was full of people making use of the free newspapers for the cost of a coffee!!! Even heard a couple behind me complaining to each other that there was only Saturdays papers left!!!!

Thomas Anholm: Huge range of stuff and the staff are very helpful!

Nigel Jones: Great Waitrose with great choices and plenty to choose easy access and large carpark

John Neale: Very good

Daniel Qiu: Nice store.

James Greenhough: Had a fantastic cooked breakfast/brunch today. Great value for money at £8.50 too.

Simon X: I bought the wine I was longing for. The staff looked tired and expressionless.

Martin: Very nice supermarket with helpful and friendly staff

Pairings Wine Bar: what do users think?

Joseph Newman: bar with ‘wine flights’ and ‘gin flights’ available on a walk in basis, and special ‘experiences’ upon booking too. They have some really great good boards too, which are quite filling and a good portion. The value is a bit hit as miss, but the venue is exhaustive and has all the prices on. Service is great. They don’t accept Amex just FYI. Definitely recommend a visit here.

SR: We booked here on a personal recommendation for our weekend away in York and definitely weren't disappointed. We shared the Deli board for 2. I'm really not a wine drinker but I wasn't made to feel silly for not liking wine, or subjected to "oh but you MUST try this one I KNOW you're going to like it" as I sometimes am in other places! The deli board was gorgeous and great quality, and we were stuffed afterwards. The service was really friendly and prompt. We were sat at a little bench/bar seat, and my only criticism is that I didn't feel this was really big enough for the 4 people that were sat at it, we felt squished in by the other party of 2.Otherwise a fab experience, maybe our favourite food from the whole weekend!

Michelle Morgan: Beautiful wine selection, coupled with gorgeous cheeses on the centre of York.We had a lovely, lazy lunch with Pairings. Ordering four types of wine, cheese, a pork pie and dessert. The atmosphere is buzzy and lovely. Staff were knowledgeable and welcoming.I’d recommend asking for a table near the front of the restaurant as the back is windowless and without natural light.

Penny's Bespoke Foodhouse: what do users think?

Jane Ross: Friendly staff and deeee licious food for all three of us, well worth the short walk from townVegetarian options: Good options

Mr Anstee: Traditional cafe. I had the full breakfast. The "bespoke" in the name comes from being able to order everything pretty much as you want it. I had crispy bacon, black pud, brown toast and chilli sauce on the lightly done eggs. Friendly staff, good coffee, quality ingredients and a decent price for inside the ring road. I'd definitely take people here.

Shem W: I never usually have a full fry-up but it was freezing and I was in need of something hearty! It was a generous portion, excellent value for money, and made bespoke, so soft eggs and crispy bacon but not at all greasy. You could tell the produce was good quality. The service was lovely and welcoming from the outset. It’s not the place for a speedy meal but it was so nice not to feel rushed. Will definitely visit again.

Owen Kavanagh: Very nice people and grate breakfast

Siobhan Saunders: Lovely warm welcome and a treat for our dogs. Bacon bap was fantastic!

Jane Jackson: how we wanted our fried eggs cooked and how crispy we wanted our bacon. 😋😋😋

Stuart Wilson: Lovely owners that were very accommodating in terms of my annoying allergies and cooked a fantastic breakfast.Dietary restrictions: Coeliac, gluten free

Andy Russell: I love this place and Penny is a very warm and welcoming person. Food is wonderful!

Junbo Zhao: Really nice to see reopen after the Pandemic. We went here one month ago and had a lovely brunch. People here are so nice like three years ago when I first came to York, first time going abroad for education, tasting "first brunch" in England. Thx the lovely food and nice people here which makes the wonderful memories. Sry to forget the photos, but the new dish omelet with cheese and ham is really tasty.

Adriana Ionescu: Excellent food, lovely host, so nice and welcoming ! We will come again

Samantha Goldberg: Cannot recommend Penny’s enough!! I’ve been twice with a friend and my only regret is not being able to go more often! The owners are incredibly kind, hospitable, and they make the food themselves. It’s currently just an awesome mother/son duo and they are crushing it. Delicious homemade food, friendly environment, and a bang for your buck. Who could ask for anything more? Go now!

Oli Clarke: Simply the best cafe in York. Penny and Cas are friendly, down to earth and welcoming. Very reasonably priced and good quality food. A great selection of food and drink choices too. I often go most weekends and highly recommend to anyone considering a visit. Whether solo or in a group, it's a great space for all!

Laura Wymant: Wonderful breakfast and catered for.some very fussy egg eaters.xxxx

Marks and Spencer: what do users think?

忞熈: This supermarket has always been my favorite while living in the UK. I can always find the food I want and of a certain quality.

Nigel Jones: Very large M&S with very good stocked shelfs and plenty of choices

Rich Deerdog: . Those were the days.

Klaudi: I like the salmon & cream cheese sandwich with pickled onions and spinach from Marks and Spencer café very much!I also tried speck which was delicious. Spanish jamón was also looking tasty. I think it's a great shop.

Anne Marie Stagg: if I want to buy clothes or homeware from M&S.I quite like the York branch as the clothing etc is well presented and I can usually find what I want.I haven’t used the cafe for a while but it was okay. The toilet facilities, as always, cramped and crowded. Really need some unisex or more female toilets.I like the Food Hall; it’s not the largest but they do carry a good range of products including gluten free and the fruit and veg is good quality and a decent price. When I visited earlier today there were huge queues for the many self service checkouts; as far as I could see there was only one member of staff trying to keep on top of that. This M&S does still have a few ordinary tills which I hope they will keep; staff on these are always pleasant, polite and cheerful.

m “MM” m: An great selection clean and overall organised!

Janet Wattleworth: Wonderful!

Arthur: Its your basic multistory marks and Spencer. There is a nice cafe upstairs, and bathroom on the same floor.

Derek Atkins: Always a pleasure to shop here with great value and selection of goods on offer. It's a must when I visit York and the friendly staff and service is the best end to shopping trip. I've never found a issue yet to complain over after going there for years. If only the other shops would be like this one. A huge thank you for your service.

Resham Tamang: Amazing market store in the heart of the city center

Alan Dyer: Brilliant store, great cafe

Josh Burnell: Got food at the cafe and it was pretty good. Fish and chips were a good portion and enjoyed it thoroughly. Tables were cleaned when we reached one however the toilets always have a massive queue and are on the top floor at the back but overall a big shop where it looked very appealing

Aya Alsabbagh: Nice place, for buying clothes & foods ,There's also a bakery , small one but still nice
