York School of Jewellery: what do users think?
Liz Hawkes: I can’t recommend York School of Jewellery highly enough. Whether you are a complete novice or you’ve got some experience in jewellery and or silversmithing this is a great place to learn. Both Nik and Julie are hugely experienced and offer an environment which is tailored to each student’s level of ability. The studio is very well equipped and Its a friendly, supportive place to be. I look forward to my weekly session and can’t believe how quickly the time goes!
Lizzie Clark: It’s very difficult to put into context just how wonderful YSOJ is without you experiencing it for yourself. Nik and Julie offer an outstanding level of service, pushing their students to do their very best and creating a wonderfully supportive and creative environment along the way. The workshop is brilliantly well equipped and I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to give jewellery making/silversmithing a go.
Jane Burgess: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueAbsolutely brilliant! Everything you could wish for and more - fantastic and really flexible teaching, allowing you to learn how and what you want (whether it's simply for fun, as a hobby or something more), welcoming and fun environment. I couldn't recommend highly enough.
Finn Sokolowski: I count myself very lucky to have chosen this place when I was trying to find somewhere to explore silversmithing. Nik and Julie are both very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, and if you want to learn silvermsithing or jewellery making, this is a fantastic place to do it.
Victoria Cassidy: I have been attending YSOJ for about a year now and I should imagine I’ll be coming for many more. Both Nik & Julie provide different teaching styles, both highly knowledgeable and patient in their approach. They are also fun to be around making coming to class so enjoyable, creating a warm working environment whilst learning so much. Because of this, even with all new covid measures that they’ve put in place, the atmosphere is not affected and I look forward to coming every week. I have learnt so many skills in my first project alone, and I’m looking forward to my confidence and creativity in jewellery design increasing through their encouraging tuition.
Lesley Stagg: This is a fantastic place to learn jewellery-making and silversmithing skills from experienced and sympathetic tutors. So much work has gone into retaining the fun whilst ensuring that it is Covid-safe.
Nikki Caruana: Love going to jewellery class at York School of Jewellery! It has a really good vibe and small, friendly classes. Nick and Julie are experts in a wide range of jewellery making techniques and can offer extra instruction in other areas such as silversmithing, enamelling and soldering. Classes are relaxed, follow students interests and supports their creativity. Couldn’t recommend more highly!
Liz Court: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueIt's the highlight of my week. YSOJ provides excellent, bespoke tuition in a welcoming, friendly and supportive environment.
G Furness: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityYork School of Jewellery is an excellent place to learn traditional silver jewellery and silversmithing, taught by Nik and Julie who are both extremely knowledgable and experienced. With plenty of Covid safety restrictions in place it is the safest place to learn and explore your own creativity. posted by Lisa Furness.
Helen Thornton: I’ve been attending the school for a number of years now and have learned so much about working with silver and jewellery making. Julie and Nik are excellent teachers who really encourage students to be creative in their ideas. It’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere full of friendly welcoming people. I would heartily recommend the school for anyone interested in learning how to make jewellery using traditional hand-crafted techniques.
Ann French: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueLots of fun to be had whilst gaining skills and knowledge. I have been attending for a short while and can already say it’s been a brilliant experience. To slowly see and learn about a craft that results in a beautiful product is simply amazing. I thoroughly enjoy attending with my daughter and would highly recommend to anyone.
Kate French: I recently started the York School of Jewellery and it’s simply fantastic! I attend once a week, and every time I leave I cannot wait to return for the next class. You certainly learn a lot (developing skills and knowledge) whilst having a lot fun along the way. I would highly recommend. If you’re looking for a new and exciting challenge that can become a fabulous hobby, or even to eventually turn into a business, this is where you need to be. You won’t regret it.
Rachael Oakenfull: I’ve been going to York School of Jewellery for 2 years and I really look forward to every class. The small class sizes and range of equipment mean there is always a new technique or skill to learn. Nik an Julie have created a really unique learning environment, relaxed and friendly with their teaching style adapted to suit each individual.
Zara C: It's hard to capture in writing just how amazing this place is. I've learned so many different skills since I started coming a couple of years ago - and the teaching is excellent but delivered in a way that makes it an enjoyable process and you amaze yourself with how much you have learned after each class. The atmosphere is really special - the teachers and students are all really friendly and that is just as important as anything else. So much hard work has gone into making the school as Covid safe as possible and I am grateful for this. I was concerned that things wouldn't feel the same following the lockdown but can honestly say that we have all adjusted to the new procedures and are back to enjoying learning and being in the company of great people in a warm, friendly environment. I always recommend York School of Jewellery to people especially now when we are looking for new interests and ways to connect in the current situation. I feel really lucky to be a student here.
Toby C: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueGreat teachers and facilities. I've learned so much and really enjoy my time at the school. Highly recommend to anyone interested in learning skills taught properly by professionals.
Dawn Hall: I have been attending York School of Jewellery for a number of years and enjoy making silver jewellery for my friends and myself. Julie and Nick are both very patient with all their students and you can be sure of a good time. Look forward to my class every week 😀
Vina Gillham: Professional teaching within a small group of students, learning the traditional method of silversmithing, and Jewellry making. Also at these unpredictable times every effort is made to keep everyone safe.Would recommend this as a place to get away from the daily grind for a short time and immerse yourself into another world of Jewellry making.
Ann Allen: When I started at YJS I knew nothing about jewellery making but wanted to try something new. With the skill and patients of Nick, I am beginning to learn and understand the craft behind making a piece of jewellery. My confidence and skills grow week on week. A great experience
Karen Ward: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValueJewellery making or silversmithing you can do both here with expert tuition and top quality tools/facilities with all possible Covid precautions taken. Mix with some lovely people, learn some new skills and have a good old laugh along the way - definitely an antidote to the times we are living in.
Jane Wilkinson: Positive:ProfessionalismAmazing skills and knowledge available here and the ability to teach effectively. Great for skilled and beginners alike. Love coming here - learnt so much in a short space of time.

Silver and Stone Jewellery Design: what do users think?
Sue Renn: I went to a dichroic glass and silver clay workshop. We learned to cut glass and make it into cabochons and to roll, texture and cut silver clay to make pendants. Then we learned to make three types of settings to add cabochons onto the pendants we’d made. Helen explained the steps really clearly and had a good range of equipment so that we all made something unique. I had a great day and made some jewellery that I’m really happy with. I’ve already booked onto another course with Helen.
Julie Durkin: Helen is lovely. I definitely recommend I've done 2 classes now and really enjoyed them.
Claire Gittins: Helen is very welcoming and helpful with her workshops. It has been a delight to be with her today making bangles.
Chris Ablett: Never been, but from the website I'd be very interested in booking a course!
Gill Cussons: Brilliant courses, gorgeous pieces for sale
Rachel Marshall: Helen's Silver Fidget Ring workshop was one of the best courses I have ever done. The workshop was pitched perfectly, without ever feeling too technical or daunting.
