Bill's York Restaurant: what do users think?

Mista T: Booked a table here during our visit to York. The restaurant is pretty funky inside and the staff were polite, friendly and attentive. The adult meals were absolutely fantastic, genuinely fresh, tasty grub! The rosemary fries were awesome! We took advantage of the "Kids eat free" promotion. While the fish goujons were great, the burger was pretty disappointing. I know it was free, but it was pretty overcooked and dry. The wee fella ended up just eating some of the bun and chips. Didn't want to make an issue as it was free, but maybe one to avoid on the kids menu if visiting. The dessert more than made up for it though, with both kids demolishing the delicious ice cream! All in all, it was a very pleasant meal out at averyvreasonable price. Would highly recommend!Kid-friendliness: The kids eat free promotion was a nice addition!

Laura Morgan-Watson: Have been a big lover of Bill’s since I first went to one in 2014, sadly the quality of food has slightly gone down since then but on this occasion I really enjoyed my food. I had the ‘nduja & burrata meatballs…they were delicious and I also had a Rosè spritz which was refreshing and not too bitter. The other diners I was with had mixed reviews…chicken burger a little dry and the beef burger not as good as previous times. I cannot fault the service though and I also like the option of splitting the bill when you scan the QR code. Overall, 4* as I enjoyed my food and it was a nice lunch 😊

Alex Elliott: Great service. Friendly staff, food was good, fast and only lost a star due to the fries not being hot and not being rosemary and red onion salted as advertised. Had the vegan “dirty” burger which was honestly one of the best burgers I’ve had and the kids loved their food. My 6 year old said that he rated it “infinity out of infinity” which says it all really.Vegetarian options: Dirty vegan burger and a few other really good vegan/vegetarian options

Lyn Botha: I loved this restaurant. The atmosphere, the food, and the service were all great. We booked ahead, which I would recommend.Parking: As York is basically a no car city, you need to get public transport.

Shaun French: Great family place to eat. Not cheap but the restaurant looked great, the food was really interesting and tasty and the service first classVegetarian options: Kids get vegetarian options tooKid-friendliness: Immediately given a set of crayons and a colouring pad

Forest: what do users think?

Meredith Druce: found Forest through other recommendations. We came for an evening celebratory meal. Starters were delicious and the steaks were incredible! Perfectly cooked and really tender. The 2 ladies serving us were great with our 7 year old, answering all her questions. Desserts all round were amazing, as were the cocktails! The restaurant is very cosy and we didn't feel rushed in any way. The 2 staff even helped us to find a taxi company to take us back to our hotel. Totally delicious and amazing, we will be back. ThankyouWe visited at the end of February.

Irene Torcal: waiters were lovely!Vegetarian options: They had vegetarian options.

Jordan B: On a little getaway to York and popped here for a quick snack - we liked it so much we came back for dinner for my partners birthday the next day!Aside from the food being fantastic, the general vibe and feel of the place is so cosy and all the staff were so lovely and funny! Cracking music too! They gave my girlfriend a complimentary dessert as it was her birthday too, which is very nice of them Definitely will be back!

Neil Hargreaves: Believe all the really great reviews of Forest - this place isnt just good it’s exceptionalThe staff are lovely, the food is superbAnd easily the best breakfast in YorkshireVery highly recommended and for good reason

Rustique: what do users think?

Debbie Bentley: Nice food but not amazing. The staff are friendly & gave good service. The food came out very quickly though - you can tell they want you gone after 90 minutes so you feel rushed! When you book it states how long you have the table for so we don't need reminding. Therefore our experience wasn't as relaxed as we'd hoped for a nice restaurant. We won't rush back. We'd give this restaurant 3.5 stars but the staff 4 stars.

Darren Flinders: The best food I have ever eaten. I booked a table online but the earliest I could get was at 8.45pm, however we were passing about an hour before and popped in to see if we could get in any earlier and the staff kindly took us to a table. The place is lovely but the food is out of this world, this is certainly my all time favourite place to eat. Highly recommended.

The Mulan: what do users think?

Jess D: Absolutely wonderful experience at The Mulan. We were in York for a long weekend and thought we would give the restaurant a go given the good reviews online. We were greeted warmly by Denise who offered us advice on which dish to choose when we couldn't choose between two. We went along with her recommendation and were not disappointed! All dishes were fresh, delicious and authentic. We particularly enjoyed the satay chicken skewers which were tender and juicy and the satay sauce was the best we have had!Staff couldn't do enough for us and the serving times were very efficient. We returned two nights later for a second meal as we enjoyed our visit so much!I highly recommend this restaurant.

Neil Roworth: . Large order was all correct and all hot . Couldn't fault it at all. My new go to Chinese

The Ivy St Helen's Square York: what do users think?

Joseph Newman: It’s a nice, nowhere near Ivy London, Manchester, or Leeds. It’s a very toned down version with, for example, a coat stand rather than a wardrobe or cloak room. Service is the same for every guest, courteous but standardised, and the food and drink selection is reasonable. On this visit there was a full range, which was great compared to last time. Overall, a good visit, and nice staff, food, and drinks.

Donna Drakeford: First time visit for me. The decor was lovely and the service was excellent. The vegetarian choices were a little basic, so as I am pescatarian, I chose fish & chips. My husband had Shepherds pie, and we all had arranchini balls to start with. My daughter had the same mains as me.The arranchini balls were nice but would have been better served with a sauce as they were a little dry.The fish & chips were nice, as was the Shepherds pie. The Creme brulee was lovely, as was the chocolate bomb.Presentation was good, and my daughters peanut allergy was handled well.It is a very noisy, busy restaurant. The price was average for these days in a nice restaurant. All in all a pleasant lunch. If I was in the area I might call in for breakfast as my husband says it is very good, and the cappucino was excellent.

Craig Bond: Called in on the off chance we could get a table without reservation on a busy Saturday lunchtime and the front on house staff happily accommodated our custom to show us to our table. Once seated the service was very good. The only slight negative feedback I could give is that we were charged £4.95 for a bottle of table water offered to use by the waiter. Though at no point did we get informed this would be chargeable. Irrespective of this small detail it didn't dampen our experience and would happily return to The Ivy in York.

Ate O'Clock: what do users think?

Brett Turner: Great place tucked away from the main street. I visit often so thought it's time I left a review. Very friendly staff and great service every time I have been. There are plenty of vegetarian options too which is great ad a few of my friends are veggie. Tonight I had the bork belly dish and it was incredible, presented well with plenty of vegetables and delicious crispy pork belly.

Sarah Joanne: & added Chicken for an extra £2.50 & a portion of skinny fries to share....... compliments to the chef! Very well presented on the plate and absolutely delicious. Worth every penny! Infact I was pleasantly surprised when the bill arrived.Looking forward to returning soon.Thankyou 😊

David Carroll: Me and partner came here for our anniversaryBrilliant atmosphere the food was brilliantI had duck and my partner had steak both were deliciousThe staff were very friendly and treated us wellThere is an optional service charge which you don't have to pay but we did because of the wonderful serviceWould highly recommend

Monika Szymanska: Absolutely delicious food. My kids really enjoyed their fish fingers and chicken nuggets. My hubby had cauliflower soup and chicken kijev and myself roast chicken. Everything was beautifully served with the highest standards. Staff nicely presented, extremely professional and kind. I highly recommend this place if you want to relax and enjoy your food.

Cafe No.8 Bistro: what do users think?

Matt Davis: Describing it as bijou would be to do an injustice. We were in a group of five and we were treated very nicely by loving and warm staff. Between us we ordered a variety of menu items and all of us left happy and contented with such a beautifully presented and delicious meal. This is not something that suits an average student budget, perhaps more for the parents of students visiting. Located in the heart of York, with great decor and high ceilings, gave it an ambience that will last for many memories. The walls were festooned with a number of photographs which were very interesting. I can thoroughly recommend the fish cakes for starters.Vegetarian options: Staff were willing to tailor each dish to your particular dietary requirement. The vegetarian amongst us was pleased to have nuts removed from all dishes.

Ilana Zeldin: Fabulous food in a cozy atmosphere. Amazing steak. Great service and very friendly staff. The black sesame ice cream was delicious and unique. Recommend for an elevated dining experience in York for a great price.

Sara Ascroft: and no option it seemed to buy more veg. We both had the chocolate and black ice cream dessert, this was again another beautifully put together dessert. This place serves beautifully cared for food with excellent service.

Faihaa Naser: Very good

Vicki Till: We visited on Saturday and we're not disappointed. From the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel comfortable. All staff were very friendly. A bottle of water was added to the table as soon as we sat down. We were given enough time to look at the menus. Our food was amazing. Presentation was spot on.We would definitely return again.Thank you for a lovely birthday experience xx

Mark Reynolds: Just perfect. Proposed to my partner here. Staff could not be more helpful. Cosy restaurant, great ambience. Never too many tables so get the personal touch. Cannot speak highly enough for all the staff and the chef is outstanding. We had the most amazing time and food, the cost reflects the status of the chefs skills. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Booking a must.

lisa fretwell: Lovely early supper for four of us. Nicely focused menu. We had the goats cheese tart, fish cakes and black pudding for starters; followed by the baked aubergine, lamb and surf and turf. Rarely make it to desert but the pear trifle and banoffi were delicious. Excellent, personal service and not surprised they were fully booked! Highly recommend.

Melton's Restaurant: what do users think?

Nick Wells: and the amuse bouche were delicious and generous. Then the rest of the courses were all fabulous - tasty and beautiful. An unexpected gem in suburban York. It's not cheap but this sort of quality takes time and skill. In terms of value for money it's a bargain.Vegetarian options: The menu is short but there are vegetarian options on each course and everything is delicious so you won't be disappointed.

Neil S: . Overall, it was definitely one of the best dining experiences we've ever had

Michelle Morgan: Fresh, innovative cuisine - tucked in a corner of York.We enjoyed every bite of the seasonal tasting menu and wine flight. It included seasonal mushrooms, scallops, beef and a few other amazing surprises.Cozy atmosphere with welcoming, knowledgeable staff. We’d definitely visit again.

Alain Salesse: Fine dining restaurant come and go and call in and out of fashion, but Meltons is a faithful constantly in his York culmination scene. It has a many years since we last visited,an I am pleased with report its just as good as ever. The food and service were amazing and and I cannot think of anywhere else I would rather go that there for a special night out

Edvyn Andy Wongso: . Two of our guests left with saying "it was one of the best meals in my life". Thank you, Melton's, for creating us beautiful memories.Parking: There is a public carpark just across the road.

David Kinder: Great local restaurant, amazing food and service

Le Cochon Aveugle: what do users think?

Hannah Benwell: The menu was outstanding. I had a birthday gift of Le Gavroche, which was incredible. This place is better. The food and wine pairings were unusual and perfect. Particularly the iced cider orange wine and savignan ones which I haven't ever tasted. The service was perfect. Everyone should try the smoke eel. Also I normally won't eat an oyster but this was incredible. You have 2 weeks people before it closes, you have been warned.

Surekha Dhir: We have been there about 5 times and it's food heaven. Josh creates tasting menus you can't even imagine ....deserves a 3 Michelin stars 💕💕💕

Daniel Catalin Bala: Strong essences are kept in small boxes"...A fascinating place, made by fascinating people.

Ashley Hanley: Best Taste

Neill Horie: A fantastic menu and experience, and one which has improved significantly on the already great foundations over/since lockdown. Each dish and course was delicious and flowed nicely into each other, with some wonderful staples and changes over time as the menu has changed. As it is a blind menu I won't mention which dishes I enjoyed the most, but it was all thoroughly enjoyable - although you should look out for the macarons if they are still on the menu. The wine pairing was always one of Le Cochon Aveugle's strengths, and this has been retained with the renewed focus in their food, and pair beautifully. In addition, last time my partner and I also tried both the wine and soft pairings, sharing both of them, and I highly recommend doing so. They were delicious, experimental and often unexpected. Sometimes the drink from each menu also paired beautifully together in addition to just with the food, making for a continually changing collection of flavours and textures.Le Cochon Aveugle has cemented itself as my favourite restaurant in York.

Ian Redfearn: A fantastic evening. Food of the highest quality, making the most of some superb produce.Service friendly and unpretentious and an excellent wine pairing.

Judy Getty: Unbelievable! A fab experience from start to finish. The attention to detail of every tiny element of this evening was incredible. The surprise with each course made it so fun and exciting - with great service and a narrative to make each dish come alive. The food itself has phenomonal flavours that linger and grow in your mouth, and the wine pairing took it to a different level. Exceptional all round... Well done team cochon!

Andy Copland: My wife took me here for my birthday sitting at the chefs table and it was fantastic! The wine pairing was very good with some interesting wines for each course, but the non alcoholic pairing was exceptional. This is a restaurant that is experimenting and trying new ideas so be prepared to just roll with the menu and enjoy.Only a matter of time until it gets recognised and starts winning awards.

georgina White: . Fabulous experience I'll treasure for a long time

Darrell Gale: Amazing experience that I won't forget. The scallop alone deserves 5*s

Sigal Blonder: in a very warm atmosphere. Lovely

The Botanist York: what do users think?

David Marshall: Early evening weekday meal during Easter break. As tourists to York we weren't sure whether a reservation was required, but we were able to get a 6pm table without any fuss. The kids menu was generous, certainly enough for our 10 and 12 year old boys.Cocktails were very nice and the food was tasty. We had the sharing kebab which was great and just about the right size.Only complaint was the speed. Given the place was probably three quarters full, the length of time between ordering and receiving the main courses was a little over an hour, which felt a long wait.

Kylie Smith: Absolutely love this place! Go with the girls for cocktails and nibble and with the husband for the hanging kebabs! Delicious!Kid-friendliness: I’ve taken my daughter here for lunch and it’s child friendly for all ages.

The Pig and Pastry: what do users think?

Matthew Garcia: Wow! Absolutely stellar experience. Not even sure how I found it but I’m so glad Google brought me here. So much to say as everything was memorable and special. Located in a cute little village south of the river, it’s in one of lovely parts of town where every shop you need is available and it has a real community feel. The restaurant itself seems to be an institution and reminds you of what makes a cafe great. Locals who care about what they make and sell. The inside is decorated with some great stuff, which adds to the charm. The chef/owner was cooking up amazing meals and the front staff were friendly and made the experience even better. Since it was late March, I had to go with the seasonal asparagus benedict, which huge spears and tasty greens over delicious sourdough toast. From start to finish, this was one of the better breakfasts I’ve had anywhere in the world.

PrometheusZero: Bishy road has a wonderful vibe and this is a great little cafe there. I had a coffee and a toasted sandwich while sat in the outside terrace enjoying a bright Spring morning. The service staff are great and attentive. They suggest options and repeat your order back to you, a simple thing that so many places skip that makes sure your order will be correct.Coffee came very quickly and the toasted sandwich was prompt. The coffee was very nice, rich and velvety without being cloying. The toasted Reuben has the right mix of sharpness and roundness of flavour.Would defo come here again.

Grant Inglis: Had a coffee and a sausage roll excellent

MADDOGLEP: Jorvic Googled "best breakfast near me" and this came up. Paulicarus says it was an inspired decision. Both had the meaty full English. Easily one of the best ever and maybe the best. They use local farm suppliers. Excellent sausage, bacon, black pudding, eggs and toast. Throw in beans, tomato and mushroom for £11. Non stop trade on our visit. Super taste in 60' and 70' music! A cosy place. Hope to be back soon.

Martin Williams: A wonderful independent and ethical cafe with lovely breakfast/brunch.
