Hotel du Vin York: what do users think?
Chris Clark: Don't park under the trees!You'll thank me later!Rooms: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Quiet …More
Garry Fisher: In town to see a gig at Crescent Community Venue, this hotel is ideally situated. Our room was faultless. An issue with our bedding (not the hotel's fault - we neglected to inform in advance) was dealt with swiftly. The bar is an ideal place for a relaxing drink. We didn't dine in the bistro, but ate breakfast in there the following morning, and that too was great.Guests are charged £10 to park behind the hotel, but we were able to leave our car in there for a couple of hours after checkout and walk into the city. All in all, this is a lovely hotel with a good location and commendable staff.
Carole Robinson: For the price we paid at this hotel I expected a lot more. Deluxe room, very small, banged my leg twice in corner of the bed, had to move a chair to use the toilet, one bath towel between two people for two nights!Lunch was pitiful, cold, small portions, poor choice.Cannot think of much positive about this place, £10 per night to park the car, 179 per night no breakfast included.Think our friends who booked premier inn across the road were far happier with their stay.Major disappointment all roundWe did report all this on check out and was told things would be fed back to the appropriate teams. We since found out that all the other people in our group had breakfast included but we didn’t, obviously another error.
G Bilbo1: I booked this hotel through work because my usual hotel was fully booked I'm glad it was because this hotel will be my hotel of choice for future visits to YorkNice clean and everything you could need in a room meals were very good too with plenty of choice the staff were very friendly and helpfulWell Done Hotel du vinLooking forward to my next stayNearby activities: All within a few minutes walkWalkability: Close to the station and on a bus routeFood & drinks: A good selection of wines and spirits I noticed beers were only in bottles no draught
Annabel Ellis: Fantastic stay, staff were all so lovely and helpful throughout our stay. The location is perfect for walking into town, it's maybe a 15 minute walk but really easy and you get to pass through the city gates everyday which is lovely. Bedroom was gorgeously decorated and really clean, we loved the big bath and the sustainable daily cleaning option is really good to see. Even through we only had a classic room still had lovely tea and coffee and plenty of space for our things. The one downside I do have is one side of our bed was very uncomfortable. My partner and I swapped sides over the 2 nights we stayed and we both struggled to sleep on one particular side of the bed. Beyond that I can't fault the hotel and their fantastic staff.
Rachael McConaghie: Great service and staff.
Mark Hagen: Lovely boutique hotel, only a short walk from station, York Minster and National Railway Museum. Had a very enjoyable visit.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

paul shippey: Parfait! We booked a 1 night stay based on the Hotel reviews alone. The Hotel was clean and had a very pleasant atmosphere. Staff were always available, polite and helpful but also discreet and respectful at all times.Food was of high quality as was the table service. We forgot to collect our phone charger on departure, and after a brief phone call the item was posted back to us straight away.Thank you for the impeccable service, we will return.
Anna: We stayed for a few days as a city break to York. We averaged 20,000 steps a day so did say we'd stay a bit closer next time, though it is walkable into the city or there are regular buses. Hotel felt expensive for what it was but it was in line with other hotels in York. We had a nice size, comfy room, with aircon and a good shower. We didn't eat at the hotel. One of the biggest positives was that the hotel has a good size car park and they only charged £10, compared to other places I looked at this was good.
Jan C: Very spacious comfortable room. Resturant service was good.Short walk from the station and the city through Micklegate.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury …More

Hotel Indigo York, an IHG Hotel: what do users think?
Juliet Cusick: Lovely hotel in city centre. Great room with everything you could ask for including monsoon shower and robes. Good selection of tea/coffee and biscuits/cake. Breakfast was great. Mel Yehya: What a great hotel! Booked through one of the Virgin experience vouchers and will definitely be back. Great location, central to York and our favourite restaurant. The rooms are AMAZING! We're really impressed! The whole hotel is immaculately clean and smells sooooo nice! There is a 24 hour car park around the corner, which costs £13 for a 24 hour period. We hadn't had breakfast, which was included in our rate, at the time of writing, but I'm sure it will be great!
Chris: Fantastic modern, spotlessly clean hotel in a great location, very close to Yorks attractions, excellent staff and service, breakfast's were really good with a wide choice, reasonable priced parking just around the corner. Overall an ideal hotel for a stay in York.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Quiet …More
Adam Bennett: Top class place, 2nd time there and we'll be back. Can't recommend highly enough.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Romantic, Quiet …More
Darren Stephenson: Really nice hotel right in the centre of York
Ben Alexander: Had a great stay here and when I return to York I would opt to stay here price being equal, and that's should be all i need to say, if you will stay somewhere again then it did its job.Breakfast here is good, they have continental laid on so you can help yourself there and you order a hot breakfast. One thing I think would elevate it though would be hot drink vending (bean to cup coffee machine) available to the patrons like many other Hotels have at breakfast times.Gym on site is small but good enough to get a work out in, I used it and was on my own, if there were multiple people in the fitness suite it might be a bit crowded. My only mark down on the room (219 for reference) was simply because our room didn't have any net curtains, looking out the window it seemed like all others did, so the options were either curtains drawn all the time or curtains open all the time.Staff all very friendly and helpful especially the gent who showed me to the gym when I couldn't find it.Rooms: Everything you would want from a room, clean, plenty of space, good shower, TV, mini fridge, tea and coffee making facilities.Walkability: While a bit of a walk from the train station, it's only a 5 minute walk from the centre of York so you're really can't moan, there is also plenty of restaurants and bars too and from the hotel.
Damian Hill: Have just spent a couple of nights here as tourists in York. It was a nice clean and welcoming hotel in a great location.
Alan Jones: Visited with my partner and what a fantastic experience it was. The staff were super friendly. Quirky room with good facilities. Breakfast had a fantastic selection with continental options and cooked food to order which is always a plus! Would stay again.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Alessandro: Ottimo hotel, personale gentilissimo. Stanza piccolina ma ben organizzata e bella. Non centralissimo ma York è piccola e si arriva ovunque.
John Hanson: Very nice hotel all the staff where pleasant and helpful. The rooms where clean. we went for breakfast there was no waiting everything was served more or less immediately. The only thing that wasn't quite right for me was the bed. it was very uncomfortable but apart from that I can't fualt the hotel.
Texier Jérôme: Great Staff !Warmly welcomed. Rooms are clean and well decorated.Well located : really close to the pedestrian streets !Was a pleasur to stay there.Rooms: Clean !Walkability: Perfectly located.

Kay Lovelady: Just returned from a long weekend in York. Fabulous hotel right in the city centre and short walk to shambles.Hotel was lovely, clean and welcoming. Definitely recommend the breakfast, best choice and quality of food we have seen in long time. Rooms were modern and some nice touches such as biscuits, lovely big towels and slippers.Only slight gripe was they forgot balloons and banners I had paid extra for as husbands 60th bday (also not worth cost) and King size beds are not king size (uk not European king size!) Basically a double. That said would definitely go back and will be recommending to friends and family
Gayle Skinner: Excellent hotel, friendly staff. Great value for money and so many extra touches included in room. Breakfast, lots of choice. Cooked breakfast superb.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Quiet, Great value …More

Principal York: what do users think?
Lyndsay: The rooms smelled of sewege, they were dingy and unclean.stains on the carpets, and stains on the bed .as a person who has been to many nice hotels this is disgracefulWe had to leave and stay elsewhere it looks very nice outside, but the rooms are very different to that. wouldn't ever even consider about coming back againReview byJoel age:12
Kay Cox: Absolutely beautiful hotel, the decor was lovely. We were not there for an overnight stay but, I'm sure the rooms were equally stylish. However, the Garden Room experience was not so good. Again, the decor was lovely, but the young, clueless staff needed some serious training. The coffee was mediocre, it arrived with no sugar, we asked for sugar, which arrived but no spoons! The used cups were not cleared. There were no cakes/pastries or even a biscuit available at 11.30 in the morning. I waited 10 minutes just to pay the bill. Overall, our experience did not live up to expectations.
Rich Reynolds Magician: Stunning venue!I performed at loads of weddings and corporate events over the years at this epic venue! The main hotel is beautiful and the purpose built events centre is perfect for the evening celebration. They have a great team too! 👍🏻

Annalaura Lerede: Definately not a 4 stars hotel.I ended up in the basement section of it, which is really far away from all the other amenities of the hotel and doesn’t feel as nice. The most annoying part was that whenever someone flashed the toilet in the building, it would make a sound and result in my toilet to flash too. It went on every few minutes and it made it hard to rest.
C J (CJ): My partner and I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for a weekend getaway to celebrate my birthday. The city speaks for itself. What sets this hotel apart is its architecture - the long corridors and high ceilings lend a grandeur to that surpasses other hotels in the area. We booked through Secret Escapes and paid a reasonable rate for a hotel which included breakfastWhile the property was renovated in 2015 and we had no major complaints, we did notice some signs of wear and tear. There were marks on the ceilings that hinted at water damage and other areas that could benefit from a fresh coat of paint. Our room was located in a different part of the building that required a walk through the basement to reach. While it wasn't a major issue, the staff whilst very friendly and helpfull , neglected to inform us of the location, and we initially assumed that "floor 5" meant the fifth floor. Nonetheless, our overall experience was good, and we would certainly consider staying here again at the price we paid. However, if we were paying full price or for a larger room, we might not see the same value. That being said, the hotel's location is excellent - a quick glance at Google Maps shows that it is situated in front of the train station. Overall, we recommend this hotel for its impressive architecture, reasonable rates, and excellent location.

There is noise, but it's not that bad. I am a hard sleeper, but I still manage to sleep without problem. They give you a fan, but still: ( The hotel has very beautiful decorations. The location is very good, close to a train station. You can walk to the entrance from platform 4. So super convenient.

DoubleTree by Hilton York: what do users think?
Christopher Hanson: We definitely enjoyed our stay at the Doubletree in York. As Hilton Grand Vacation members this was our first experience using Hilton Honors. The staff helped us a lot and we did not even realize the upgrade and breakfast came with our membership reservation. Many thanks! As for location, it was only seven minutes walking to York Minster, and we had views of Monk Bar as we ate our breakfast and read books in our room.Food & drinks: The covered patio is sunny spacious and inviting for your afternoon rest. We valued the attention of staff at breakfast.
Womble McWomble: Impressed with this hotel, clean and comfy, decent breakfast. Special mention for the team here, every single member of staff I had any interaction with were absolutely lovely - made my stay really pleasantWalkability: 5 minutes from the Shambles and other historic bits of the city
David Thomas: Excellent staff especially the tall blond girl with long hair and a very good buffet breakfast and a good locationRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Nick Brown: Just left the hotel after a long weekend stay of 3 nights. What a gem! Room was excellent and well serviced, breakfast first class and plentiful, bar roomy and welcoming. Located 50 metres outside the walls at monk bar and just 5 minutes from York minster makes this an easy access to the city centre and attractions.A well done to all the staff front of house or hidden for a brilliant stay.Absolutely Fabulous 😎
ETS Thrapston Jonathan White: Lovely overnight stay right next to Monk Bar access to the city wallRooms: SpaciousNearby activities: City centreWalkability: Next to Monk Bar
Matthew Skermer: This DoubleTree is a bit quirky. From the look of it, they renovated a group of old work buildings and turned them into hotel rooms. I liked the concept. Unfortunately the area I was staying looked a little run down and could do with a bit of renovation - both inside and outside the room. Other than the decoration, my duplex was comfortable enough. It was quite small, even on 2 floors, but had what I needed. If I had been staying with my wife I would have felt cramped. (Some of the sockets charged devices really slowly, others normal speed, so I recommend you test them out before charging for long periods).Welcome on reception was quick and staff were very friendly. They gave me a welcome cookie (with gluten and nuts - I took one for a gift for my wife when I went home) and told me to return for more if I wanted. Well...it would be rude to turn down such a kind offer, wouldn't it? 😉The gym was fine for a hotel gym. I've posted pictures because I didn't see any photos of all the equipment. Dumbbells only go up to 20kg and there is no barbell, so if you're into heavier weights or want to work legs with resistance training you might struggle to do what you want. It was shoulders and abs day for me, so I coped fine. Another plus - it's 24 hours, so when I woke at 5am and couldn't get back to sleep after an hour of trying (through no fault of the hotel's - the rooms were quiet) I was able to have an early morning workout.Breakfast in the morning was ok. I found it a bit strange that the waiter told me he can bring me coffee or tea and waited for me to ask for an espresso before telling me that anything other than filter coffee or tea would be an extra charge. I wasn't the only one confused as the next guest to come in made a similar request and switched her order to filter coffee when told she'd have to pay. (Management: Please ask the waiters to explain 'We can bring your filter coffee or tea, but if you would like speciality coffees it will cost extra'? It'd make it much easier on pre-caffeine guests to skip that part of the conversation) The cooked breakfast had the usual stuff you get at all-you-can eat breakfasts, including gluten-filled sausages. It really annoys me that hotels haven't moved to gluten free sausages even though they're so cheap nowadays and don't taste any different. But there was a separate section with gluten free bread, a separate toaster and gluten free müsli. As well as these, there were cold meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, defrosted frozen fruit and yoghurt. There were probably also gluten-filled pastries, but I didn't check that table.I enjoyed my stay here and would probably stay again if it was at the right price.
TIM Woodgett: Not a great experience. Room was outside in a new block with very poor sound proofing. When neighbours doors closed it shook the neighbours walls. WiFi did not work in room, informed reception twice who didn't seem to know what to do or care, no one followed up. Was forgotten at dinner and it took over an hour to be served a burger and drink. Was told my drink would be refunded, it wasn't. Couldn't be bothered to wait even longer for bill to be sorted. When going to sleep noticed that sheets were dirty but didn't report as no one seemed to care. Won't be returning.
Russell Phillips: Location is spot on. Food is good. Service excellent. Parking v tight, suggest early as people sign out attempt to get parking. Only downside, my room a little tender care - maintenance would go a long way.V quiet but was easter weekend!Rooms: Mine needed some attention. No working windows. No air con. Redecoration in order. Small missable issues here and there. No wifi. But did get good phone signal.Nearby activities: Edge on the main walking areas, suporb for walking visit.Food & drinks: Limited but spot on drinks were mostly off but food great, got a breakfast token and could have utterly pigged out. V nice choices.
Lisa Sims: Food & drinks: Great choice for breakfastRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Quiet …More
David Cooper: Where do we start, totally inadequate car parking, however we were directed to another car park (cue fiddly app download) where we disturbed a shifty looking pair checking out cars as we left ours. IdealThe room itself was dated and had a fusty smell to it and was accessed my making my way through dirty corridors, going outside, then back in, another tiny corridor and a narrow stairway and eventually found it, it was very cold despite the tiny heater which I set to 31 and still blew cold air out, I got to bottom of the buzzing sound I could hear when I killed a large fly that was cohabiting with me, however being above the kitchens or air con units it was still noisy despite the departure of my visitor, the final straw as the restaurant where I waited 20 mins for my order only to then be told there was no fish left, no meal then. After so much disappointment I didn’t even bother going down for the breakfast, I couldn’t take anymore, hopefully I’ll never have to visit this establishment again, I cannot believe it has the Hilton name.
bill alderson: Stayed 25 March 2 nights for my birthday, Room 39, was difficult to get to, lots of stairs, room was poorly lit and dingy with a moisture smell, poorly maintained bathroom had gaps around bath panel with missing filler. Bathroom windows “caked” in bird pooh.Woke at 4 am with fire alarm (no fault of hotel) however night staff had difficulty resetting alarm. Couldn’t get a drink at the bar after 10:30 pm on 25th was told that there was no room service available.Overall Staff were excellent, don’t think I’d stay again, rooms in the vicinity of 39 if anything like ours need overhaul, not suitable access for elderly.Definitely not worth £288 over £300 when you add breakfast.
rab qureshi: Looks great and inviting. Set in a courtyard setting with individual accommodation. Very clean.Rooms: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Jodi Crompton: Stayed here last night, had an amazing time. Friendly staff, beautiful food and cosy rooms. We'll definitely be staying again, thanks.Nearby activities: Few minutes from the cathedral

York Marriott Hotel: what do users think?
Louise Moloney: The hotel is clean, rooms spacious with hot, powerful showers. The breakfast was tasty, plentiful buffet style with extra ad hoc items like porridge and poached eggs if you prefer. The staff are all friendly and helpful, especially Maggie at breakfast. The pool, sauna, steam room, sauna & jacuzzi are all well maintained and clean. The location is about 30 mins walk decent walk to the city centre but that also means it's in peaceful, leafy suburb andnext to the racecourse. If you don't fancy the walk, the number 4 bus is frequent and quick into town. I'd definitely recommend.Rooms: Two double beds, plenty of space counter space to spread out, little fridge (and corner shop across the road for snacks drinks)

Wendy Taylor: We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was overlooking the racecourse. There was a balcony which, I imagine is lovely to sit out on in the summer! The bed was a comfy super king. Bathroom had a walk in shower, a bath and shower over and was nice and spacious. Complimentary robes and slippers (up to size 14, EU 40 (6/7) The bar area was nice. Food a bit pricy (£15) for a ceaser salad. About £12.50 for 2 alch drinks. I would highly recommend breakfast £14.50 ea but it was superb. Weekends overed self service, cooked items, fruit, artisan breads, salmon, cold meats, cheese, cereals and pastries. The fresh waffles were amazing (naughty but nice). Located 15 mins from the outlet, close to Askham Bar park and ride. Several amenities close by. Overall the stay was good. On average 2 nights over a weekend inc breakfast was just over £300. We would definitely stay here again.
Steven schools: Great place to stay, if you are OK to walk 20 mins into town or get £10 cab, rooms lovely and large and not too expensive, good service, we were checked in by Tyler who was great and made us feel welcome.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5 …More

Linda Brooks: First room looked clean when we went in but empty water bottle underneath a chair, not sure how that could be missed. Vibrations from something made sleeping difficult. Second room was ok but there was a doorway into next room blocked by luggage rack but light was on in next room all night so shining in our room. Breakfasts were OK ,lots of choice but bacon, eggs, sausage were dry.
Natalie Seal: Great hotel. Breakfast choices are good! Everything was just right
Angela Philo: I took my mum away for mother's Day to York at the Marriott Hotel the staff couldn't do enough so helpful. The room was wonderful cleaned every day they did up grade us. We got the bus into city centre and the fare was really good best getting a return.l would recommend this hotel to everyone thank you for a wonderful time.Angie and Iris.
Andy: I'd like to say this was an amazing room to stay in, but it wasn't, we had a room overlooking the race course very nice ,the room was dated some creepy looking chairs and the bed was to big too uncomfortable , we both slept poor, breakfast was the best thing , plenty to choose from hot and cold. Sorry to say I wouldn't rush back. Not even a frosted window in the bathroom outrageous.
Sharon Dempster: Stayed for the weekend, bed was very comfortable and room was very spacious. Smart TV, iron and board, hair dryer and safe. It was spotlessly clean and smelt fresh. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Buffet breakfast was plentiful, fresh and hot. Everything from a full English to continental, my only disappointment was there was no blackpudding. Pool and spa area was clean and warm with towels provided. £1 coin needed for lockers. Views over the race course. Bus stop across the road and also a garage for those late night snacks. It is a little dated but it's well looked after. Would be happy to stay there again.

Dasha S: Be aware - this hotel sadly has been a victim to recent hotel industry issues and as such not only lacking 5 star service but also has degraded beyond belief.Sadly, I must report that this hotel cannot be recommended to anyone who has expectation of good service by trained stuff, comfortable beds, 5 star service, great breakfast and management that understands hotel industry and the needs of its customers then sadly you are at the wrong address… oh and if you have allergies get yourself ready to be “killed” or “assassinated”Essentially, this hotel doesn’t respect allergies, there is at least 30 mins wait for a breakfast table as a hotel guest, the duty manager Elliot has probably only finished eliminatory school and has zero understanding of his profession or customer needs, stuff ignores booking and allergies of feather or non feather and what’s worse the hotel is truly unapologetic for what they do - they took away my duvet and had put for the second night of my stay all of sudden feather pillow so I ended up with allergic shock and no duvet, and guess what they refused to make any compensation of the room rate for that night with no duvet and allergic bomb! And we booked two rooms - paid 4 nights and the hotel refused to compensate even one night! Conclusion - if you want to stay at a hotel where sadly management is stuffed by low IQ (Elliott) then you are at the right address. Otherwise, poor service, long wait for anything ordered, no apologies, no skill set to win back and make an unhappy customer happy again - poorly stuffed and skilled place with hard mattresses and hard pillows

G U: Disappointing. Stayed here last year and had a beautiful room. Returned this year because we really liked our room last year. Sadly, this time around we were given a very dated room, not what you’d expect for the £200 price tag. A Premier Inn would have much nicer rooms for a fraction of the price. Needless to say, won’t be returning, despite original plans to come back in July.

Kate Faulkner: This is the best Ivy I have been too (visited 3 others in London) Lovely service from a super waiter (and gentleman!), great food, attentive to my allergies and we all had a smashing time. Thanks so much!Dietary restrictions: I have a weird bunch including wheat.
Tricia: Ordered the burger……….. the bun was burnt, the burger dry, the lettuce was brown and the chips were dry and hard. That hard I could bang them on the plate! Husbands first time in The Ivy, disappointed and quite frankly embarrassed considering how much I had praised Bath, Bristol and Cardiff. Manager did refund and offer an alternative. We left and went to a Bistro around the corner and had better. Dissatisfied.
Dianne Crowther: Excellent afternoon tea with reconnecting family , Ideal surroundings. Great service ,we were under no time restraints. The only issue was The Ivy don't have a decaffeinated tea, only coffee which you don't want with an afternoon tea.Dietary restrictions: Catered well for gluten free.

Rebecca Diver-Clarke: Very glad I found this wonderful bar and restaurant. The location alone must make it simply the best place to eat in York. It was pouring with rain sadly when we visited, but I can just imagine the terrace is a stunning place to relax and unwind on a summer evening. I will definitely come back next time I visit York. Hopefully the weather will be better. The food was delicious - small portions but meant there was room to try dessert (aka cheese!).The waitress who looked after us was attentive and very friendly, she really made it a special dinner for us, thank you!The one small constructive comment would be a more adventurous wine list, but that’s simply because I am a bit of a wine lover.

Jeremy Stonehouse: Fabulous service. Great menu with loads of variety. The treacle tart was excellent. What a surprise. Lovely.
ANASTASIA BELEVTSOVA: Nice chilling place, with nice view …, all staff grumpy and not friendly at all, just 2 people were glad to see us, one who was serving wine, and Mike at the bar, was smiling and glad to see us… Wasn’t pleased with welcoming …..
Flo Lo: Loved it! Great spot on the river, lovely atmosphere. Staff were attentive and service quick. We came for Sunday roast, my pork was a bit dry but husband’s beef was perfect.
Mal Danks: The food and service were very good as one would expect; both creative and tasty. One or two small niggles prevented me from giving a five star review. We waited over half an hour to be served. The music was a little invasive and the coffee was served with one paper sachet of sugar and no accompanying sweetmeat. I would have expected better finishing touches in a restaurant of this calibre.

Amie MacDonald: Food was okay. But the price doesn’t reflect the quality. The initial welcome was lovely from the lassie who seated us. But after that again nothing special to warrant the 12% mandatory service charge. We have traveled really far today, so excited for a Sunday roast only to find out they stopped serving at 5pm. This was not specified on the website… my other half did check a few times.

Kate W: I had the signature dish and it was the best meal I’ve ever had in my life. And I’m no rube; I’ve eaten at some pretty amazing restaurants in my time.Wine selection was great, excellent service. Banoffee bread and butter pudding for dessert was decadent and divine.Go here and get the signature and have your life irrevocably changed.
Daniel Beech: The Whippet Inn was recommended to me so we booked a table during our visit to York. The restaurant looks beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only reason I’m giving it three stars is based on my experience of the food. My partner and I both ordered rib eye, which was tasty, but by no means one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, or worth the cost. In my opinion the steak was overpriced and didn’t even come with any vegetables (only chips). A few mushrooms, or a couple of onion rings, would not be difficult to include at the price point set. Based on this on would not return or recommend.
Vanessa Brookes: Visited this evening. Excellent food and excellent service in a beautiful setting. Wouldn’t fault a thing. Will definitely be back in the future 😊 Thank you to the staff , especially Anna for making our visit an excellent one x
Ell Gee: A hidden gem but there is emphasis on the hidden - no sign on the building so took us a while to find it.Staff friendly but didn't tell us they didn't have a couple of dishes until we were ready to order so had to re-think quick. It is pricey but this is reflected in the taste.Great quality food.Parking: You need to park elsehwere and would need to pay. We paid £3 on Sunday evening, would usually be £5.
Heidi Lovick: Omg..what an Incredible find. Staff were so attentive, friendly and kind. Food was out of this world. We cannot recollect a better cooked steak anywhere and we have been to many places across the world.Oh and the wallpaper in the bar is worth a double take...Cannot wait to return..
Thomas Stafford: The food was amazing (try the special filet steak) The service was above and beyond exceptional. Anna was very knowledgeable and passionate about the menu items and helped us choose our meal based on our personal preferences that were available to choose from. The atmosphere was incredibly comfortable, warm and inviting. I highly recommend this wonderful establishment.
Sarah Rothwell: The Whippet in is seriously THE best restaurant in York, Yorkshire – maybe the planet! And it's dog friendly too! We love, love, love visiting The Whippet, the front of house team are so friendly and helpful, the cocktails are divine and the wine list is superb. Oh, and the steaks and all of the food are pretty sensational to boot. Go there – you won't be disappointed!Dietary restrictions: They cater for vegans, veggies, gluten-free and dairy-free diets so even the most fussy of friends can eat like Kings, or Queens! ;-)
Andy Bushell: Really disappointed as we had high aspirations. The gravy was burnt and ruined what would have been a great lunch. The best the management could do was to take off the “discretionary” service charge! Ironically, the service was great and they deserved the tip. Will not be back, go to the Ackorne, so much better
Bertrand Christian: Super endroit, typique de conté de york
Stuart Rawcliffe: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes ChateaubriandMore
Amanda Rimmer: Wonderful meal. Excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Christina Uhlir: This restaurant is such a gorgeous hidden gem! The food, ambiance, and service (love Sam) were the perfect ending to my first day in York.
Ed Chunski: Had a wonderful dinner here and I loved it. The steak, from ex-dairy cows, was amazingly flavourful. And to end the meal, their bread pudding was a delight. My server (he's the only one there, it seems) was cheerful and helpful. Overall simply a great dining experience. I strongly recommend this for your dining options!
Gareth: Only giving two stars due to the guy waiting the tables was all on his own. Otherwise I would of just walked out as soon as they didn’t have the item I wanted on the menu. I think this was tactics for me to have the steak. I’m a big meat eater, this sadly was the most chewiest piece of said meat. It was cooked badly, Should of been medium to rare… but was more rare. Hence chewy toughness. Wrong side salad came out with my meal, so by time it did arrive I had already eaten most of my meal. The chips were okay, accept the large ones were hard in the middle. The tomato and onion salad felt like it was topped up with fresh (nice tomatoes only 3-4 then the rest all diced mushy bitter tasteless tomatoes. Onion too large and tasted so raw in the mix it was unpleasant to eat on its own. I really hope the restaurant takes on board the info, and get their quality standards to warrant the price tag. £44.00 (1 pint + bottle still water + side salad + fillet steak with bone marrow and chips) would of been warrant if I had enjoyed the meal. I don’t mind the small portions as long as quality is involved. The bone marrow remove, it adds nothing to the dish. (Or add a slice of bread to enjoy the bone marrow on.) Also the steak wasn’t cooked in Garlic and Thyme as stated. Maybe the chef had an off day.
colin harris: Sadly disappointed, food ok. Would have liked a bit more.Felt there was a constant upsell of wine and the tone changed when I said we didn't want any deserts either.Food: 3/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 3/5 …More
