Jason Shepherd: I was on my way to work at York St. John when my chain snapped. Luckily I happened to be just a few blocks away from the Giant store, so I walked it over and knocked on the door. It was about 15 minutes before the store opened, but they let me in and agreed to replace the chain before the end of the day, which was an enormous relief. They also replaced the rear cogs and the brake pads. The end result was a bit pricey, but they were incredibly friendly and helpful, considering I'd come to them out of nowhere before the store was even open. Absolute lifesavers!

I was starting to think my mountain bike was cursed as it had been to a local independent guy a couple of times... despite having the bike for 2 weeks, he couldn't get the gears indexed or sort out a few other issues. Dropped the bike in with Ben at York and he has truly gone above and beyond, in terms of expertise, advice, service and getting the bike absolutely sorted. Amanda Rushton: .I bought my first E-bike at the end of the pandemic. It’s a hybrid but as I have road tyres on it I never take it on the trails. Last September that bike had an unfortunate accident and fell off the E-bike rack on my friends car. Accidents happen but the blow was softened by the wonderful service I received from team at York. I went on holiday a few days after the accident and they kindly liaised with my insurance company while I was away, keeping me updated all the while. My bike suffered considerable damage, but as it was the Thrive and no longer being produced the team went above and beyond to restore it for me. I can’t tell you how fantastic it was to have it mended and back on the road! I’ve always had exceptional service / support from the team at York.Anyway during the bike fixing and my visits to York I mentioned to Claire I was taking early retirement and was thinking of buying an E-mountain bike - well a girl can never have too many bikes 😊😊! With absolutely no pressure to buy Claire walked me through the Liv mountain bikes! I had no idea which was best for me, I only knew it had to be Liv and had to be from the York store. It took me sometime to pick the bike I wanted, during this time Claire was amazing, I’d ask her lots of questions by phone and email! I always got the nicest responses and an answer to my query / question.I finally set my sights on the Liv Intrigue Advance E+ Elite 3
Jo Eggeman: I had been thinking of a new road bike for a while and came across the Liv shop when visiting family in York. I first visited in February and met Claire, who was both extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. She took the time to understand what I was after and give guidance, with no sales pressure. It was very useful to be able to sit on each frame size too.I decided the Langma XS was the best fit for me and ended up purchasing in October. The Liv shop were great again, including taking details of my existing bike so the new set up would be similar. I had seen the same bike online for cheaper. The Liv shop tried to accommodate and reduced what they could and I’m happy I could buy via them due to the service provided and also for peace of mind. A new bike is a big purchase and it’s great to know the Liv store are there for queries & a first service. Yes, I could have faced a few £ online but would not have had the service or be supporting physical shops.The only thing that could have improved the experience would be to have a turbo in the store to be able to test a bit more before purchase.
Tara Keast: I visited Liv to buy an electric commute bike. I had absolutely no knowledge at all what I wanted to buy, and was guided through every step of the way to find the perfect bike for me by Claire. I took the bike I was interested in on a test ride, and despite this, there was absolutely no pressure to buy. I did buy, and the bike is wonderful. Throughout the sales process, Claire was wonderful, and kept me fully informed through each stage.The aftersales service is just as good. Unfortunately I broke my foot, so asked if my free 1 month service would be valid 3 months later, and there was no hesitation. I feel secure buying from Liv, that if I had an issue in the future, there would be no problems in resolving it.I totally love my new bike, and often now choose this as an option instead of my car. Highly recommended!
Dave Perry: Hi would definitely recommend this store when I first had contact with Steve he was really friendly before I started I asked if they price match which he said yes the bike I was looking at was for my partner it was a surprise for her they happily played a long as she wanted only to check size of bike we arrived on Saturday afternoon for her to check which size would suit her best it ended up being the small then told her it's yours she was a really emotional as she had her eyes on this bike for a long time! I'd been to other shops, researched but the personal service explaining the available bikes both at the Giant store and the Liv store was brilliant. No sales pressure at all.I was given the information I needed to choose the best bike for me. The aftercare was great. I had some issues with my back rack coming loose but at my interim service this was all taken care of. I love my bike, and I've used it most days where I ride approx 7 miles and yesterday took it for its longest ride of 36.5 miles.I would 100% recommended Liv York

Vivien Hall: Last November I bought the Liv Alight 2 hybrid and was delighted with the attention and service I had from Claire in the York shop. The bike is a perfect fit for me and an even better ride. Due to Christmas and cold wet weather I have only done a few short rides locally but am gearing up to go further afield this month! The bike is light and flies like the wind. It is very smooth on gear changes and is a fantastic ride. Speaking as a novice this bike is certainly inspiring me to go further. maggie: Lovely staff, really helpful and never patronizing to an older woman! Plenty of opportunity to get advice and try bikes out locally. I love the Devote that I bought and it's efficient and lively both on and off road. There was one small but irritating issue that needed sorting out -- the rear mech wasn't adjusted correctly so the lowest gear couldn't be engaged. I also needed to return to the shop to make a number of adjustments to riding position, which is perfectly reasonable after you've tried the bike out for a while. However, it would have been good to get my position on the bike looked at a bit more closely at handover because if you don't live locally, it's a pain to have to return for changes to be made. I would say that the 2022 model of Devote Pro is a bit overgeared, though this is clearly a personal matter and some may be fine with it as is. Overall experience is very positive.

Not only did they get my bike booked in for two days time instead of the 2 weeks I was offered elsewhere, but when I mentioned the gears were off when I took it in to get the brake bled, they happily looked at and fixed them as well. When it came to paying, I was expecting similar to what I had been quoted elsewhere, I am still so happily shocked at how much less it was. This place is quick, priced amazing for work to be done, friendly and helpful. I will 100% be recommending this place to everyone who needs their bike fixing. Daniel Brookes: Cycle Heaven is one of a number of great cycle shops in York. The main branch at Hospital Fields is an Aladdin's cave with an extensive range of bikes and accessories. The workshop staff are always helpful and knowledgeable, as they are at the other branches. There is a cafe on site.
Carol Lewis: On a cold and VERY wet March day we decided we needed a hot drink and possibly some lunch, the cafe in Cycle Heaven was our choice, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Homemade fresh Potato and Broccoli soup, roasted vegetables, houmous and halloumi sandwich, served with side salad, homemade coleslaw and handmade crisps. Oh my goodness, the flavours were gorgeous, place was spotlessly clean, and staff friendly. Definitely worth a visit even worthy of a small detour. Sadly we can't add photos of the food as we scoffed the lot.

S “Wee Stuezo”: 1st visit. Cracking breakfast and roll and bacon. Both the roll and the bacon were delicious. Really busy but excellent friendly service. Will be returning. Really good value for such quality ingredients.
Mark Wilson: We went on a long walk and arrived at Cycle Heaven at dinnertime. Its always a good sign when the Cafe is full and now we know why!! My wife had poached eggs on sour dough toast which was cooked to perfection. I had a bacon and mushroom ciabatta roll. The roll was lightly toasted and also cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to again. Keep it up!!

There was a friendly dog around the workshop which makes me think it’s a nice place to work too allowing staff to have their pet come to work with them. D Miramar: My son managed to lose his seat stay bolt off his trek full suspension. I located several for sale online and ordered it from Trek. They cancelled stating non in stock, several purchases later and refunds from other suppliers claiming to have it in stock, I eventually found it at Yorkcycleswork, I spoke to Dave and explained my dilemma, he checked his stock and called me back to confirm, then he took time to take my details to post the item out, extremely helpful and splendid service. James Foster: A True Cycle Engineer and A Pleasure To Deal With... I commute daily to work, so my bike is well used in all weathers. Even though I had it serviced by someone else a couple of years ago, it needed attention again and some diagnostics to resolve a few remaining problems. Luke did a wonderful job on my bike and it rides like new, he has also resolved problems that others couldn't and only serviced items that needed it, saving money/eco. Luke is reliable, highly skilled and a pleasure to deal with, I highly recommend him to others.
alan: Luke serviced my 35yrs old commuter bike, veteran of many services. It has since been feeling and running far better, and looked like it had gone through a proper deep clean, when he returned it. He replaced a few broken accessories e.g wheel, mudguard, bell. He also pointed out future work needed in short to medium term, like wearing wheels and tyres. These issues are useful to know about in advance. He offers any adjustments e.g. gears 'settling in', in case they are needed in the 30 days following service. I would have found that handy on occasions in the past. Better than that, no adjustments have been needed after Luke's service. Full marks for communication, customer service, and bike knowhow. Inspires trust. Will be back.Edit: And I did go back. After he made a great job of my workhorse bike, I entrusted Luke with servicing my snazzier road bike, after some 4000 miles since its previous service elsewhere. Following his service work, the bike was running much more smoothly and mostly two gears down for a given speed and incline. Turned out it was giving me around 10% greater speed for given routes and conditions. Memo to self - more regular services. I enjoyed his explanations of what he'd done. Everything still working in great order, 6 months on. Another highly satisfactory cycle service experience with Luke, best I've encountered in many years of cycling in and around York.

Isobel Shoffren: Luke is a very friendly and knowledgeable bike mechanic. He fixed my snapped brake cable on the same day as I took my bike to him, after giving my bike a general service check. He also found my rear brake needed adjusting, and texted me to confirm the additional cost this would incur was ok. He also patiently showed me how to fit a tyre and inner tube back onto the wheel so I could do it myself next time I get a flat tyre, and let me check I could do it myself. I will definitely take my bike to Luke again in the future for repairs.
Isaac Shoffren: I had an inner tube replaced by Luke and he fixed it while I waited, and showed me how to do it easily do it myself. He also suggested some additional repairs. While factors out of his control meant that the bike wasn't fixable, I was really happy with the quick service and the friendly, accessible customer interaction. I will definitely come back if I need a repair on my new bike.

Andrew Malcolm-Neale: Get my bike serviced here when anything needs doing. Fixed it when the retailer Id bought it from assembled it poorly. Sometimes theyre super busy and takes a few days, last time was done overnight. Theyre always very communicative and even offered to stay late past closing because Id said I was on my way.

Linda Nicholson: This is the best cycle repair shop. Adam is always there. I call, he comes fixes the problem in the van on the drive. Super service. A bike I was going to sell and spruce up was a little pricey but they offered to do it with spare parts instead which halved the price. Great customer service. Great repair service. They know what their doing and go out of their way to make it affordable.
