We are a York-based dance school that offers classes in ISTD Classical Ballet, Tap, Modern Theatre Dance, and Contemporary Dance, as well as Drama and Musical Theatre.
Our classes run out of either a purpose-built dance studio on James Street, York, YO10 3DW which is fully equipped with mirrors, ballet barres, and a shock-absorbent, non-slip dance floor. In 2017, due to retirement Katie Ventress School of Dance incorporated the formally known Red Shoes Dance company into the school.
Children can start ballet as young as 2-2.5 years old in our Melody Movement classes on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings and are accompanied by parents until approx 4 years of age.
Children can start ballet, tap, modern and musical theatre when they are 4 years old and may work towards exams with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing as well as putting on presentations at the end of each term and a show every other year.
Contemporary Dance classes are currently offered for children aged 11+ at Millthorpe School.

Charlotte Foxton: Yorkshire Rose Academy of Dance is a brilliant dance school. The teachers are fantastic and deliver fun lessons that really help the develop skills. The online lessons have been great all through lockdown and the extra dance family social group with plenty of fun activities on a Saturday has given the children a fantastic opportunity to feel part of a dancing community. I would definitely recommend YRAD!
Ally Damsell: Both my kids attend classes at YRAD and absolutely love it! My little girl attends ballet, and tap & modern and has flourished, her levels of concentration have improved massively. My little boy attends street dance and his confidence has increased hugely. They both really look forward to their classes and also attend the 'Dance fam' sessions on a Saturday afternoon which they are always excited about and benefit from. The teachers are wonderful and the principle, Miss Kerry, is approachable and accommodating. As well as the dance classes, the school also has a focus on the student's mental wellbeing which is so important and we, as parents, are really grateful for, for the kids to have that outlet outside the home. The classes are well priced and the cost is spread monthly across the year to make it more affordable. I would recommend YRAD whole heartedly, it's so much more than just a dance school. WE LOVE IT!

LUCY BEALES: En Pointe is a lovely, welcoming dance school. My daughter started with Acro classes and quickly developed from a shy girl who wouldn't do anything in front of people to performing in the annual show. She loved that so much that she's now doing tap and ballet too. The teachers are approachable and the children have fun while learning. Not only do they learn dance moves but also gain resilience and confidence. Highly recommended!
