Energise Leisure Centre: what do users think?
linda anderson: My grandson goes to kixx football on a Thursday night
A Z: Timetable is getting more and more limited as prices increases. There's damage and repairs such as a hole in the swimming pool ceiling that was there before Covid. It's such a shame as when this was first built it was a brilliant facility with a wide variety of activities with times to suit those who work full-time. Now it's just a gym with a limited availability pool and the odd fitness class. They used to offer zumba, aerobics, step aerobics, netball etc but all of this has gone. The only dance based class is Bokwa which is repetitive, boring and the attendees are very cliquey - heaven forbid if you stand in a spot someone else had the previous week on your first (and only) time going! Also calls itself a cashless site when there are things like lockers that take.....cash.Loads of great instructors lost following the pandemic. Understand they're not getting enough funding and the energy crisis is hitting them hard. I worry for the community and the people still employed there that work really hard that this will close down if something isn't done soon.A real shame it's a shadow of its former self. :-(
Freddie: Great facilities for swimming or gym. Gym has equipment for all levels of fitness and the classes offer a good variety.
Robert Agnew: I swim for fitness twice a week and really enjoy it a good 50 minutes in the water
Stuart Jones: Brilliant community leisure centre. Well equipped and clean.
Noah Riley: Absolutely shocking. We decided not to book as we planned to go somewhere else but they were full. We came here instead and they had spaces open, my grandma payed and used her membership. I don’t have a membership but they needed to put me on the system even though if we booked online I wouldn’t of been on their system they requested my name and my email address which was unnecessary as she could of quite easily charged us an extra £3.50 but no they needed to sign me up as a member on their system. We were stood there for 20 minutes been Nagged. Would not go here again and would not recommend
Kate B: Great facilities here.
James Sanderson: Do not start any sort of direct debit with these guys because if you do it is nigh impossible to cancel it, and if you do don't bother asking for a refund as they will send you a form to fill out online that doesn't work, when you try to click next it deselects the last tick box on the form and dose nothing.
Paul hunter: A good quality gym and pool
Nick T: Literally wasted three nights after work attempting to go climbing, the first time I spent 45 minutes on the phone waiting to get through but to no avail, so I drove 40 mins across town to be told my account has been wiped after they updated the systems and I can’t climb without been signed off. Was told to come before 6 when an instructor is here. So went two days later and was told no one was there again.Tried again last night after ringing up again to no answer and leaving work early at 4 to see the instructor to be told come back after 7.30!!!Literally so unapologetic, and unhelpful the younger staff were really nice all three times but one older guy made me feel very unwelcome. It was a very much “not my problem mate” kind of experience.I’ve been offered no reimbursement for spending 6 hours on the phone and travelling to and from to just leave feeling annoyed and frustrated. Always loved this gym, really not happy with my experience.I never ever leave reviews but I got so annoyed I felt like I had to, I’ve never known a climbing wall where you can’t get signed off for Belaying!
Rebecca Kearney: Look at the comments on Facebook. Months of complaints and non-payment of refunds, no responses, suggestions that only AI exists and no fixing of anything or meaningful apologies. Getting through and asking questions is impossible online. There is no way to speak to a person. I have tried for days and even when you get through to a potential human, you are thanked for your understanding and cut off. The website is fussy and navigation can be trial and error, just like the phone system. I find this inexplicable in this age of fabulous technology. This is a shame as this sorry website and booking system is a customer's first connection often with a centre and if not first, certainly a poor source of information and contact. The two stars are for the friendliness of staff once you've sweated on the internet / phone and made it to your booked activity.
Ali C: I took my 10 and 8 year old niece and nephew swimming for the first time since lockdown yesterday. Booking was easy, we received a warm and friendly welcome on arrival. We started in the small pool as my nephew was a bit anxious after not swimming for nearly 2 years but he soon gained his confidence back and we then moved to the main pool. It was absolutely freezing. I used to swim here a lot and have always found it on the cold side but yesterday it was really cold. We swam and played for a good 40 mins, mainly in the deep end as they wanted to practice diving. After all of that time we were then approached by a lifeguard who asked if they could swim! I said they could and she obviously didn't believe me even though they had been diving in and swimming in the deep end for ages. She then asked if she could do a swim test on them and made them both swim a length which they both did. If there were any concerns about their ability, why were we allowed to be in the deep end for so long? It was very confusing. We then went back to the little pool to try to warm up to then be told that we couldn't swap between pools due to numbers even though we had started in the little pool then moved without a problem. It seemed that there was a lack of consistency between the lifeguards and the rules which doesn't instill confidence. Sadly, I won't be returning due to the temperature of the water which was pretty unbearable for me.
SargentMicat: Dirty pool and nice staff
Teri Humphries: Clean and friendly.
H Ra: During Covid, when most gyms were doing their best to keep lines of communication with their clients open, this gym shut down their phone line. Now when you call, you must listen to three minutes of blurb before you get to a message stating your call won't be connected to a person and to check the website. Lockers cant be used unless you have a 20p piece handy (which is kept). A local newsagent laughed when I request a 20p piece in my change as so many people stop at his shop on the way to the gym to do this. Please make things more convenient for your users.
fraser forsyth: Easy to book online in advance, very quiet due to the social distance measures currently in place.Don't forget your (non returnable) 20p coin for the locker.Large gym and two swimming pools one for small children.
Ian Thompson: Since acomb energise has reopened since lock down and covid have been twice with my 9 yr old son . Both times I can't fault how u are coping and measures in place reguards covid . The staff are very polite and friendly . The swimming area and changing rooms are spot less and I see staff/lifeguard constantly cleaning! Every area is clean . Toliets spotless . The numbers of people in the pool is set to the same amount and no more. Plenty of space .I feel very safe and do not worry I'm being put at risk using your services . Swimming means alot to my son and its the only thing we've wished for during lockdown and both times been have made us so happy . Thanku to all staff and management should be proud of there staff at York acomb energise . Many thanks Mrs katie Thompson
T-series -: IS GOOD GYM BUT IF THEY ADD MORE TIME IT WOULD BE MORE BETTER. THEY SHOULD FINISH 10PM NOT 8PM. IF THEY CHANGE THERE TIME I WOULD DEFINITELY JOIN BACK
Nick Almond: Great Gym with high quality equipment and never feels crowdedSufficient on site parking. Helpful staff and good range of opening times
OEDIPUS CATAMITE: Pool is too small and having paid £16 for me and my 3 kids to get into aquasplash , I was asked for a further £1.20 for a locker, and the session only lasted 55 mins.Yearsley is a far better pool and far better value for money.
christopher squire: Been training hard 2day in gym Lucas the elephant 🐘was in hopefully 1 day I will have arms like I'm those swans are sick

York Leisure Centre: what do users think?
Maureen Shaw: I ate at the cafe and the food was good and service pleasant and helpful.
Elena Leeming: Super space and there is so much you can do here..
Scott Higgs: I used Anytime Fitness round the corner before moving here after it’s unfortunate closure (due to locality convenience). The gym is relatively okay, has all the facilities you want, just a shame none of them are available between the hours of 4-9 on a weekday as it’s crawling with people (mainly kids who don’t look long out of nappies). So my membership is £33 a month and I can only access what I want before 4pm through the week and on weekends. A booking system should be utilised for gym access as it just can’t facilitate the demand. Would drop this place in a heartbeat if Anytime Fitness re-opened. 👍🏼
Istvan Nemes: Really like this place. Gym is clean not very busy when I go in the night time. Staff are nice. Swimming pool amazing.
D H: It's a shame the swimming pool area doesn't have diving boards and slides like waterworld had, everytime I have visited there has only ever been about 20 people max yet when they had waterworld it was always full with lots of families enjoying themselves.Yes there is a gym and climbing wall etc but we go out of York as do a lot of others for more fun swimming pools.
tariq 1994: The gym is clean and quiet, and the staff are friendly and work well, especially imogen , natalie , and Tom .
Sameer Khan: Wonderful placeAlex and Edward who works in the clip & climb were really amazing. My little ones were so comfortable with them ...Thanks guys, keep up the good work.
Eric Porter: Brilliant new facility. It has everything the family needs. Highly recommended.
Stephen Robinson: Great gym facilities available, big changing room with showers and toilets.
Kevin Macdonald: Recently joined here mainly for the gym. A big bonuses was they have BP Pulse charging pints in their North Car Park. One of the two charging points has been out of order but repaired recently. Unfortunately the car park is so often full that non electric vehicles or electric vehicles not plugged in to charge block one of the four EV bays. On top of that some EVs, presumably staff, plug in and stay there all day.I presume the EV points were installed as a facility to attract customers but as they are not policed at all it’s a free for all. It’s similar to how they have staff at the entrance to the North Car Park on match days to stop football fans parking and yet the ones who entry from opposite the range have no warden to intercept them so anyone can drive in and this means that leisure centre users cannot park. Both are examples of poor management that could easily be rectified. Unfortunately once you let such behaviour slip, then the number of offenders will just rocket upwards. Also, I have a disabled Mum, I appreciate the provision of disabled parking spaces but for example about 25% of the North Car Park is designated for disabled parking. That’s a lot of disabled bays. This area isn’t well served by buses and it would take me one hour by bus to get here which isn’t feasible. Overall the car park issue, electric vehicle charging, match day access and reduced parking spaces due to too many disabled spaces is a big negative for this centre. It’s a shame. The leisure centre is good. The gym is very clean, a good choice of classes and nice pools.
Barry Greenaway: Staff are fantastic, the facilities perfect, going to go every weekday. Loved it
John Cooper: Booked daughter into the beginners swimming class. Slow start and a lot of lessons spent stood around whilst waiting for the others to have a turn. Needs more staff in the younger session. Realistically a 30 minute session is 5 minutes of register and getting the kids into the water and then 15-20 of stood in the water waiting. This is a great shame as the staff are brilliant and really try and the facilities are good too. It’s just the class is too big early on and could do with an extra teacher for the first few sessions so all the children get to do more learning.
Eden Hope: We really enjoy the swimming and book the small pool which my children like. Shame it’s a tad small would be nice for a bit more to offer the children. It’s a shame you can’t book in advance other than seven days, would be good for a month in advance to book. Lockers and changing rooms are good and clean
christopher adby: If you want a good coffee go somewhere else..... Very poor and very expensive
M DP: Great place to bring the kids. We did kids swimming and noticed the climbing walls there too loom amazing. Will be returning for sure.Oh, and be careful about coming on a match day. We didn't realize and things get congested there.
Andrew McMaster: Great centre but website and booking process is awful.
Joshua Philpott: Very upset at having got a fine for overstaying 20 minutes on a match day. With 4 children between us (one getting diagnosed for Autism) this does not seem fair.
Chris Tomkins: Great complex
John Walton: Took my 7year old son to the clip n climb and we both loved it. He wants to go again so that says it all.
VaultHunter85: Quick and easy booking online for the swim session, very friendly and efficient staff. Very clean pool and facilities.
Laura Rudd: Fantastic facilities with ample parking. Great little park attached that's free. Really recommend it here

York Sport Village: what do users think?
Georgia Craig: gyms busy, with two squat racks, copious amounts of rusty (??!) technogym, and no deadlift platform. trecky to get to, and just not the best. friendly staff, but the gyms just crammed full of equipment but very limited free weights
kathryn Surtees: We are members here and its great
Connor Hawksworth: Great for taking a newborn swimming as it has everything you need and is warm.
David Alderson: A really good setup here. Probably the best pool in the city (barring outdoor at DL), gym is well setup, can get busy but there are quieter times
Eleanor: Large gym and pool, always very clean when I go and there’s access to free classes if you’re a member which is a nice bonus. The café also sells a good range of cold drinks to costa and has a view over the pool which is useful. The temperature is always good for exercising.
George Mackay: vending machine don’t work.not pleased.🤬😡🤬🤬
Dominic Spengler: Nice but a bit pricey and the pool isn’t too clean — ended up with conjunctivitis from it more than once. Otherwise good upstairs gym though. Shame that it’s quite far away from everything so cycling there via the windy open bike path from the other campus isn’t very fun.
Colin Walker: Great swimming pool
Thomas Smith: I love York Sport ❤
Alison Mellor: You'd expect it to feel really busy on a Saturday but there was plenty of space to swim. The changing rooms were clean and warm. It's just a shame that the pool isn't open more for free swimming
Mc Dog: Swimming ... well laid out, lovely girl on reception. Recommended!
iiSunnyrxses: very nice 👌
Rumia_Touhou: 价格很实惠不过泳池有些小没人带泳帽还有就是泳池里的水一股难闻的咸味
Rob Dover: Modern facilities. Easy to find, easy to park. Reasonably priced. Interesting cycling circuit too. And an outdoor velodrome, the like of which I've never seen before.
João Paulo Brito: The structure is perfect.
Derek MUNDY: There for Invictus Training in Archery. I found there were not enough toilets and no canteen. Vending machines only..
Darryl Smith: What a selection of exercise experiences, from 5 a side, to dance and swimming.
Paul Browne: Friendly staff, great location and great facilities. Not much to dislike hence my 5 stars
Ellie Pickard: Brilliant clean facilities.
Lloyd Bodill: Good.
Trevor Oakley: Pouts, barrier-jumpers and people who sit on equipment looking at themselves for 30 minutes whilst 10 other people wait to use it. Too many people, too many in love with themselves.

York Sport Centre: what do users think?
Johnathan Arcay: Boshhhhh
Matt Hanson: Great facilities but squash courts way too warm
Steve B: Good value and great facilities. Free car park with ticket from reception if using facilities
Avishka Amaratunga: Great tennis courts. Easy to book and the centre provides extra equipment as well
Ian Martin: Superb facilities at the University of York.
Richard Griffiths: Parking is pricey and no obvious option for reduced payment if using the the venue but venue appears clean and tidy. Only went bro the sports arena which is a great sized space with lots of different courts.
Albert Moncur: Great sporting venues
Ron: The place has all you need to test yourself while working out. It is neat, and well equipped. If you are a York student and liking training with weights or resistance bands, you'll be truly excited of being here.
Dominic Spengler: Was a member here for years and ended up complaining at central management of university level because of how rude and unhelpful some of the staff were. Toxic atmosphere at reception. This is some time ago and I hope it’s changed. I did like the devices and doing workouts there though.
Rob Hodgson: Good facilities but the staff are unhelpful and rude. We were recently overcharged for a family swim and when challenged were stonewalled by the desk staff. After further investigation also found out that we have been overcharged for months on previous swims despite us asking direct questions about prices with concessions. The children's pool is also closed far too often with poor information on the website leading to many a wasted journey and a very disappointed 6-year-old.
David Brownhill: Variety of sports available at a fair price
Tasawer Khan: Very good facilities.
James Smith: Visited to watch our granddaughter compete on the track . Superb facilities lots of parking.
Water Melon: Lots of poo but a great arena
david hodgson: Track good but greedy charge you eight quid for parking.
Christian Nicholson: Can only really comment on the Squash courts, but they are great. Good temperature, consistent bounce across the court and reasonable pricing. Has the ability to Pay and Play but also offers leagues and opportunities for friendlies.Friendly staff in the centre and the whole place is a generally nice atmosphere.Parking in site is private (and so you have to pay if not a club member) but is free after 6pm.Lots of other facilities on the same site and twinned with the York Sports Village down the road offering reciprocal discounts.
Paul Roberts: Lovely place to go for students and public.
Boas Andreasen: Not big enough
Ann Stow: Great venue for playing badminton. Helpful staff.
Rob Dover: Aside from the militant geese, this is a splendid facility and good place to participate in and watch athletics.
Walmir Ferreira: Good parking space and easy access

Roko Health Club York: what do users think?
Rachel lunam cowan: Friendly helpful staff. Lovely clean pool. Well laid out gym. Good value
Darren J Sage: Possibly the most comprehensive range of classes in York for all abilities, decent equipment, pleasant facilities and excellent group fitness instructors, personal trainers and gym instructors - what more do you want? This is a place for everyone - it's a good place to work out and actually enjoy yourself - a big family of people doing their bit to get to where they want to be. Go and have a look. It might be what you've been looking for!
john barnes-tee: Went this afternoon for a guest visit and used the steam sauna and jacuzzi all which were nice and hot the staff were friendly and helpful. The changing rooms were clean and tidy and lounge cafe was a nice space to relax.
nic R: A very nice gym with supportive staff, nice changing rooms showers, good machines and weights, a calm atmosphere, nice coffee shop, sauna, steam room, spa.
Ata: Everything you could ask for in a gym and constant availability of sauna + Steam room. Highlight being whole joint has a very friendly vibe
Martin Doyle: Great gym and pool with friendly staff
Michelle Smirthwaite: Great gym. Pool sauna, swim and relax. Great cafe for afterwards. Amazing for de stressing
Darren Rigg: Great gym, great atmosphere.
Matthew Reaney: Play Football 5 a sideUnprofessional manager/referee.Only care for people's money.
Ski Purl: Very poor customer service. Don't join!!! My 12 month york contract finished in June. When I informed them I was leaving, was told I had to pay an additional 3 months termination fee (was not made clear when I joined) otherwise they would send my details to debt collectors!!! Disgusting
RACHEL EAGLEN: Nice gym and pool, never overcrowded. Some of the equipment could do with updating though
Marius Matulevicius: Great Place
Katie Roberts: I joined Roko on a 12 month membership - I didn’t really enjoy the gym, the classes were good but I didn’t really use the facilities much and I did not think it was worth £50 a month which you are then tied to on a contract. When it came to cancelling you have to give 3 months notice, of which you have to work this out yourself and get no reminders, and so you are effectively tied into a 15 month membership unless you remember after 9 months to cancel. When I gave my 3 months notice I was told that my last payment would be taken out in the July. However, when it came to June I emailed to confirm that my membership would still be cancelled. I then received an email saying that I hadn’t given my notice and my 3 months would then follow from that most recent email, which would have been 3 extra payments. They were quick to sort this out when I emailed with screenshotted proof that I had already given my 3 months notice - but I can’t help feeling this is something they do to a lot of people to get them to continue paying as I have read other reviews saying this and heard the same from other people unless it is brought up.
George Parker: I only signed up this week so it’s difficult to comment on what it’s going to be like long term, but so far? What a place, honestly I’ve looked forward to coming every single day, class gym despite it being upstairs and relatively small, modern and up to date, friendly yet professional staff and the pool facilities are brilliant. At this price point Roko is a pure hidden gem in York.
Lynne Hutchinson: Roko is a lovely friendy ,welcoming club that I've been a member of for a few years now.Opened in 2008 it's now unfortunately showing it's age.Such a shame that when we were in lock down staff didn't take the opportunity to give it a good deep intensive clean and address all the niggling things that needed mending. Missed opportunities.
John Murphy: Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff, great gym and spa facilities. The changing rooms and showers are very clean and modern and there is a really nice cafe to eat drink and relax in.
Ian Walker: Good range of machines and free weights not too busy helpfully staff friendly atmosphere. Great place.
Brenda Sanger: Great to be back and use the pool again.I only use the pool and have missed it while maintenance was happening. Wonderful.
ahmed kholeif: Very disappointing, Joining classes (especially pump classes which is the popular one) is a nightmare, it is booked very quickly, you have to increase the number of classes.
Sascha Willems-Lockwood: Very good gym. Very nice people.
BARBARA Trayhorn: Excellent, my first session since March 2020. So good to return, gym is very organised and clean.

Yearsley Swimming Pool: what do users think?
TRIPL3DADDY.: My son swims here with his school, says the pool is sometimes cooler than they would like, but overall a good swimming pool
Irene Forsyth: Loving the Aquafit classes!
john barnes-tee: Always helpfull staff and never any problems with our sessions great asset to our kayak club.
Pete S: Very long pool
Barry Greenaway: Well run and staff very friendly
Sarah Lee: We go here a lot. It's a full size pool which is quite rare. They do lane swimming and swim for all and family fun swims on a weekend. They also do aqua aerobics twice a week and swimming lessons and club stuff. Loads going on. It's an old building/pool with some great heritage and historic links to the city and it's workers/people. The pool and building are well looked after and are clean and the changing areas/showers/toilets are clean. You can book online and I think you can turn up and pay, if there are spaces. The staff are good. There are vending machines in the lobby for hot and cold drinks and snacks. There is enough parking at the venue but the car park is really tight with little space between the 2 rows and the spaces are tight.
Chris Turner: Best pool in York for squad training
Nick Case: Yearsley pool is simply the best pool around. Tried all the modern pools at Energise and the new one at the stadium and Yearsley has by far the best ambience. The old style changing booths just work, the place feels open and stress free. Awesome facility, how many 50yrd pools are there left!?
Herjan Velding: Nice big pool. 50 yards long. Showers are nice and hot. Lockers require 20p coin.Great for lane swimming or family swimming. No slides.Water temperature ok, but the water itself wasn't particularly clean. Lots of clumps of hair on the bottom. The rest of the pool side is well maintained though with plenty of individual changing cubes as well as family charging cubes, all split by gender. Plenty of life guards.Be nice if they had a couple of centrifuges to spin trunks / swimming costumes dry, which is quite common for swimming pools. There is seating upstairs for parents to watch their kids and 2 vending machines with drinks and snacks in reception.Places for lane swimming etc. need to be booked online or via the Better app.Free parking for customers and some parking reserved for Blue badge.Overall a good pool (although old) and one of the few pools longer than 25m.
erica fletcher: Nice n clean
Martin Reilly: Unhappy to see the £1 returnable lockers replaced with keep your 20p locker. Appreciate they need to get revenue but how do you get a 20p these days? Also adds up for a regular swimmer. They are cashless so no way to get a ready supply of 20p coins if you swim 4 days a week.
Amy Carlin: Staff always really friendly and the water is the perfect temperature.Would definitely recommend
April Gamble: I go to aqua fit on a Friday it's spotless. the staff are great .
Emotive Piano: Quaint changing facilities, gender segregated, made me feel like a horse in a stable (why are the doors not full height?) But a BIG pool for a good swim, not crowded, booking process easy, just the thing for our visit to York in the hot weather.
義人啟迪: The first 50yards swimming pool I swam in UK😅
lucy hurn: I'm a triathlete, and up to now swimming has been a necessary part of the training mix but not much more, but since I found Yearsley swimming pool, it is honestly one of the highlights of my week. The pool is large (50 yards) and is (usually) split into 3 wide lanes, which gets rid of all the agro - its easy to over take/ be overtaken so there's no stressing about what pace you or others are doing. It's really bright and airy and the light dapples on the bottom of the pool as if you're swimming outside. The staff are all friendly and helpful, its well maintained and cleaned, it's clearly well valued and used by so many and there's a wide variety of people who go, from breast stroke chatters to competitive athletes and everyone in between and there's a generally friendly atmosphere between everyone. Thanks so much for this gem!
anne white: Fabulous pool. Clean and well looked after. Staff are friendly but also professional.
Lucy Brown: This is a lovely pool, we play octopush (underwater hockey) here every Saturday from 3-4 pm. New players are always welcome! Find us on Facebook - York Octopush. This pool is a glorious 50 yards lengths long and has a beautiful old fashioned designs. It is never very busy and great place to come for uninterrupted lengths!
Jąʍҽʂ: A lovely pool, straight forward, calm and a great place to exercise. The online booking can be quite fickle however.
Lisa Machin: Great 'old style' pool, with easy access via bus number's 1, 5, or 5a. Wheelchair friendly entrance. Separated changing cubicles for gender options, which are accessible on the side of the pool. Hairdryer's available too.
Marjolein Admiraal: Nice pool, not too busy and very accessible.
