Oldbury Swimming and Triathlon Club have merged with Haden Hill Competitive Swimming Club and have become SANDWELL AQUATICS club. Warley Wasps are joining the merge towards the end of 2022.

Oldbury STC were excited to welcome Jane Nickerson (CEO Swim England), Ed Accura (Black Swimming Association) and Mark Foster (former GB Swimmer) to Langley on 3rd August to celebrate Olympic selection for Alice Dearing. (a former member of OSTC)

Information for members - All triathlon and swimming training continues to be suspended until further notice

Oldbury Swimming and Triathlon Club continue to follow the advice of our Governing Body - Swim England, regarding lessons and training.

Currently lessons and training sessions remain on as usual at Langley and West Bromwich.

"At present the Government has not closed schools or restricted school activity and therefore we do not see any reason why clubs should not continue with their training programmes in their own environment within the guidelines of the facility.

“We do not recommend training camps or competitions take place with members from different clubs..." (Swim England advice 16/03/2020)

The advice from Swim England, and also Sandwell Leisure Trust and Langley Swimming Centre is that children should shower before entering the pool and after their session, and wash hands frequently, following Public Health guidelines. There is also hand sanitiser at the desk in the foyer at Langley. Please do not attend sessions if you or your child are unwell in anyway.

To minimise numbers on the balcony, if you are a parent of a swimmer (aged 8 and above) in the large pool, we would be grateful if as far as possible you would drop your child off for their swimming session and pick them up afterwards. I understand that this may not always be practical, particularly if your child is in stages 5-8, or you live a distance from the pool. Please ensure that you either send your child with their own phone, or that your mobile phone number is up to date for our records, should the need to contact you arise.

At present, whilst schools are still open, the Land Training session at the Portway on Wednesdays will still go ahead.

However, this does mean that all scheduled League Galas and Open Meets have been cancelled for the foreseeable future.

We are checking the Swim England website frequently and will update guidance as necessary.

A great big Thank You to everyone who helped with this year's Sandwell Children's Triathlon. We were nominated for and have won the West Midlands Children's Event of the Year and are due to receive our award at the Triathlon England West Midlands Regional Awards on the 27th October.

​We are also in the running for the National Children's Event of the Year, so fingers crossed everyone!

A huge well done to all our swimmers at the PGL Final last weekend. By far our best performance in this league to cap it off. Well done to all of the swimmers who competed in any previous round to help us get there. We improved our position from last year massively and came agonisingly close to 2nd place!

4worldlovers: What a week, a great way to focus on your race fitness and have fun at the same time! Being a cyclist really, a Triathlon camp was a pretty daunting prospect for me, but the coaching team and the other participants turned out to be a great bunch of people, and we all worked together to help each other through some well focussed training in all three disciplines. I came out of the week exhausted, but fitter, pleased with myself and with a great new set of friends!

One of the best experiences of my life, highly recommend signing up.

Nick Dunn, triathlon coach and founder partner of Challenge Tri Camp, came highly recommended in 2014 and for the past years 8 years has been my coach. I’d been considering attending this camp for over a year before I eventually signed up for the fall edition. My only regret… why did I wait so long!! Every session was planned to perfection. I was nervous about being able to complete the amount of planned training, especially the swimming… get ready for over 14ks in a week. The tips I received were so simple and brought my times down to PB levels despite the fatigue by the end of the week. The cycle routes are just beautiful and a perfect mix of fast TTs, mountain torture, peloton cruising and easy coffee rides. The runs teach you perfect pacing and remind you of what your body is capable of even when you don’t think you can manage another brick. We were lucky enough to experience some yoga sessions from a fellow athlete and even a strength circuit due to a day of rain. If you want to spend a week feeling like a professional athlete, eat-sleep-train-repeat, sign up for a camp now!! I had the most incredible week and hope to join a follow up soon.
