Our classes are relaxed and friendly with no exams or compulsory homework. We talk from day one- usually about ourselves! This helps us to speak the language with confidence and motivates us to understand what people are saying back to us- which is a skill in itself! You will never have to talk in front of the whole class – unless of course you want to – as we’ve designed a method, which gets everyone talking at the same time!

I started life as a primary teacher in Sandwell, but went on to live in Madrid for 5 years. It was there that I learned Spanish and gained a love of the language and Spain itself. Learning the language from scratch, whilst in Madrid, has given me an insight into how it feels to be a 'learner.' I know that the methodology used in Language for Fun classes means that the focus for learning is fun, interactive and great for building confidence! Welcome to Queen Mary’s Grammar School, a selective boys’ grammar school with academy status.

In September 2016, QMGS became one of the first 14 secondary schools in the UK to participate in the Mandarin Excellence Programme: a new intensive language programme funded by the Department for Education.

Change Your Mind is a nationally recognised programme, which had its inception at QMGS. It provides 16 and 17 year old students the opportunity to plan and deliver health and wellbeing workshops to local primary school schools. It is in the very best tradition of our School ethos.
