I am a sole trader / self employed artist working from a studio at 1 Lotmead cottages for 9 years. I am working on a new business plan to include training days in the summer. I am currently working on commissions received by social media or word of mouth.
I enjoy never knowing what subject I will be covering week on week. I love painting children and specialise in Equestrian.
I use lots of different mediums as each subject lends itself to a different medium. Oils are well suited to portraiture due to its long drying time. Acrylics for landscape, pastels for small portraits and graphite/pen for almost anything due to it's forgiving nature. Recently I've had success with Indian ink splatter art.
My clients usually come to my studio for a consultation or we talk via social media or telephone. We agree a subject from a selection of pictures some give me a memory stick of photos to work from if pet no longer with us. After initial sketches approved I start painting or sketching on (canvas, paper or board) and use mediums such as (oil,acrylic,watercolour,pastel or graphite) For large commissions I ask for a £50 deposit which is deducted from finished price upon collection once customer is fully satisfied. Large canvases in oils usually start at £150 small acrylic canvases can be as little as £40. I direct sell to the public at Castle Combe Art Cafe, stalls around Wiltshire most weekends.
