The Swindon Summer Bowl: what do users think?

Jae Hall: Such a wonderful event, we felt so safe the entire time!! Amazing food, brilliant atmosphere and the staff were all so professional and welcoming. Would highly recommend this if like me you’re nervous about the pandemic but also craving getting out the house.

Steve Hinns: , the personal service superb and attention to detail from organisers to host responsibly was reassuring at all times

Alex Worrall: Was amazing. I was impressed by the social distancing measure and I felt incredibly comfortable being there. It must have been one of the first public events since the lockdown was lifted. I was impressed by the food and the service. They were very accomodating for my disabled son and never felt ignored. It was great to go as a family or a social bubble and social distancing was incredibly strict. Pricing was reasonable as well

Tom Reffold: Tremendous fun for all the family in a simp-free environment!

Jonny Crook: Really well organised event , and the entertainment was great , and the food was FANTASTIC ! highly recommended by me and my friends 🙂

Matthew Jones: WHAT A VENUE!! This excellent socially distanced bowl is a work of art! A great one way system.. you can order drinks by the app which they have made really well in a limited amount of time... many different options for day and evening events for all ages to enjoy! Will be going back!

Billy Taylor: Highly recommend this. Professional set up, delicious food and the entertainment is fantastic. Will be returning.

J R: Great night out. Very friendly and professional staff. Very well organised from the start.

Robbie Thomas: Really enjoyable evening. Pizza was delicious. Service was exceptional. Staff handled a rather unpleasant customer very well. Would absolutely go again!

Martin Watson: Great pricing! Loved how organised the whole thing was and the way they have catered for the current situation. Entertainment was excellent and the whole thing felt so professional

jess: Amazing venue. Friendly staff. Great night out

Bhawana Bhutani: Went for a night out . It's old but okish

Silverback: Great night out, if you haven't been your missing out!

Gary Culley: Went to the 80's night recently and had a good evening

Rob Barsby: Always good had a laugh

natasha meaden: We had our wedding reception at the meca in June 2023 and I honestly couldn't praise them more. The venue was decorated beautifully by the team they even had a red carpet laid out for our entrance 😍 My wedding cake was a total failure due to the heat and paige went out of her way to sort one for us. They went above and beyond to make our day as special as they could! Our guests were very impressed with the venue and staff alike. We had alot of complements about how amazing the venue looked. I honestly thank the meca and the staff especially paige so much.

Emma few80: Nice venue, lovely food, great pa system.

Louise Drury: Expensive drinks but otherwise a great night #mental! 🤪

Dan Soare: First time in and i can say was an amazing night at the Oscars!!! Very affordable too.

David Brown: Had great time with my family my daughter loved it

ADMIN: A great place for promoters. A really well managed team of people who all want the best for the event. Nothing too much trouble and all working for the same outcome.

Paul Dowdeswell: With almost no notice the Swindon Meca put on a great show tonight with #bikes&banter. Tommy Bridewell and Shakey Byrne were legends tonight! Well done to all!!!

Colin Ward: Lovely building with great vintage decor. Big open venue, which was pleasantly warm.Drinks are on the pricey side but a good selection of snacks at a reasonable price.

The National Self Build & Renovation Centre: what do users think?

geoffrey barigye: Great content and guidance on what to look out for when doing a self build or a renovation. I would highly recommend. Thanks Mark and Kirsty.

Nick Whant: Friendly and helpful staff, with all the connections and guidance you need for a build project under one roof. What an incredible resource.

Phil Harris: Absolutely brilliant! I learnt so much from the informative exhibits. And the staff are all super friendly. I wish I had been able to attend a long time ago - would have achieved better outcomes with earlier projects.

Clare Sutton: I attended the brilliant NSBRC Guide to Self Build Projects course in March 2024. As a complete novice, I learnt so much information in three days. The four tutors were approachable and no question was deemed too silly or too basic to ask. I found the staff to be genuinely devoted to educating and informing you on your self-build journey rather than trying to flog you particular products or services.Tip: If staying overnight, avoid the Holiday Inn Express. Whilst that hotel is great and 5-10 minutes walk away, it involves crossing a dangerous junction with 11 lanes of traffic! Opt for the Premier Inn or Holiday Inn next door to the centre instead.

William: Great place for research into anything to do with buildings

Iain West: For anyone looking for renovation or self build ideas or suppliers this is the place to start your journey. Everything you need under one roof.

Max Ramia: Attended a great project management course with Charlie. I found the material to be comprehensive, pertinent and well-delivered. Would highly recommend to anyone undertaking any self-build, or major home improvement, project.

Joe Brooks: Had a great time here. Went on one of the days with no events or market and it was a very chilled experience. Had booked a free Ask an Architect session and it was incredibly useful for myself and my brother who did the same. Staff were fantastic and the place is very interesting. Lots of stalls with different house building options, decorating solutions, heating, solar and even an old house being renovated. Make sure you book tickets online to make it easier for the staff who will talk you through the building. Free entry. Lots of courses and events that are also reasonably priced. Parking fine and a cafe serving toasties, drinks and coffeesCannot recommend this place highly enough for anyone looking at any renovation, extension or just looking at a few options of what to do in thier house. Kid and disabled friendly.

Christopher Owen: An absolute must for any self-builder! I went to the Eco Workshops yesterday and the day was superb. Lots of very knowledgeable and friendly people on hand who were very willing to share their knowledge and experience. Plenty of stands to look around. All presenters started and finished on time with really good presentation content. Highly recommend to anyone considering self build.

Savino Leo: Great place to visit if you're planning to build a new house. There's lots of advice available.

Andrew Markham: Absolutely brilliant day. Thoroughly worthwhile with excellent delivery and course material. A real must if you are getting started in self build.

Aftab Afzal: Good set up and friendly staff

Fiona Crosse: I am renovating my house and supporting others, through Low Carbon Oxford North as a volunteer, to do the same. A tour of the renovation house generated lively discussion and illustrated so well many of the problems we face. What I found most useful was talking to experts in their field, particularly on the help desk and desks behind that where you could book an appointment with an expert. The lectures that I attended were also delivered well with time for questions. Viewing actual products at the various stands was also so helpful. Inspiring, useful day.I believe more work will go into supporting us renovators at the nsbrc in the year to come with a new area for that.

Simon Comerford: Just attended an Online Surgery on self building. Very informative. Very excited about building my own home. Definitely will be visiting the NSBRC very soon. 👍Visited the NSBRC for the Self Build show this weekend. We were looked after very well. Had a great experience. Everyone we met were extremely friendly and helpful. Our dream of a self building our home is a number of steps further forward. Thanks to Harvey and team.

stephen bramble: Never been before we are thinking of moving and this has given us something to think about with the products available well done guys

ROBERT SYMONS: An excellent and highly informative event. The presentations and tours were very interesting and the chance to meet and talk to suppliers very useful.

JANET FYNN: Absolutely a must visit if your intetested in any aspect of building new homes or renovating a property. The orgaisation, staff, workshops , display stands have all been fantastic.I never new 9 hours on Saturday and 6 hours on Sunday could fly past so quiclyLooking forward now to the weekend workshops oin April on Passive House requirements.Well done NSBRC.

The Jewel in the Crown: what do users think?

John Francis: Excellent Indian RestaurantAn honest review of The Jewel In The Crown Indian Restaurant in Swindon, not a usual social Indian meal maybe after a beer or two but, in the area killing time and looking for something tasty to eat. Arrived without booking as was welcomed by a tall, slim, extremely well-dressed individual who greeted me with a smile and welcoming good evening, sir. I asked for a table for one, and so the experience started. This is an excellent restaurant with an extensive menu to suit all. I do have one warning for you, come with an appetite and not as I did with an off the cuff visit just looking for a bite to eat and to kill some time this is a venue to enjoy, relax and to be treated to in my opinion some of the best indian food I’ve eaten, certainly the best Jalfrezi I've ever had with a smokey note in the background just beautiful. I will have to come back and bring my wife as I know she would love this place. Well done all at The Jewel In The Crown superb. The only picture I took was the cup of tea I had at the end, even that was something just a little special with the tea pot etc. x

Jay: EXCELLENT.It was my son’s birthday and they made him feel special. The owner Mr Ali made us feel welcome and made sure that we were happy with the food and service. All staff were very respectful, friendly and polite. The food was delicious and good portions.Thank you Mr Ali for looking after us and making our meal extra special.

Harper’s Steakhouse at the Weighbridge: what do users think?

Miss Wilkins: Lovely atmosphere, great service and quality food!

nick simpkins: Very good mealRecommended dishes Beef Burger …

Giovanna Hurst: Waffles were amazingWe came for a roast as a family of 4 adults and 1 Child.Portions were great, really good value for money. Veg was fresh and seasonal. Star of the show was definitely the waffle! Light and airy and toppings were just right.Could not fault the customer service too, they have the perfect level of being there if you need anything but not hovering. Will definitely come back.Kid-friendliness: Provide colouring for children and children's menu is great too.

Jo Jo: Our server Asha is very friendly. We were greeted by her warm and lovely smile when we got there. She also answered our inquiries about the food menu in details. We felt very welcomed. Together with the environment, food and drink menu, clean toilet and ample free parking, this will become our favourite steakhouse. Would definitely love to come again.

Peter Ashcroft: Asked for a booth or side table at booking and this was ready and waiting for us on arrival. Greeted like long lost friends by Asher our incredible waitress who we have been served by many times before. The service was fast efficient, attentive and friendly. The food, we both had the Bistro rump with jacket potato, was cooked just right and was absolutely delicious, all topped off with peppercorn sauce, which came as standard, not at a supplement like other steakhouses. The wine is expensive, probably my only criticism, but the restaurant is comfortable and inviting, and I’ve never felt pressured to drink up and vacate the table, so we tend to buy a bottle and soak up the atmosphere.

Hannah Henley: We had a lovely breakfast on Saturday. My eggs Benedict was lovely, nice and hot on a previous visit it was cold. The English breakfast wasn’t as nicely presented as our previous visit and the bacon and sausages were not as enjoyable as before. But a nice size serving. Ambers customer service was very good and she was very nice so thank you to her for making the experience even better.

Grace Archer: Fabulous service, great food and nothing was too much.Dietary restrictions: Great choice for gluten free - maybe a few more dessert options especially for a child with allergiesKid-friendliness: Wonderful selection
