Tenderleaf Ltd was founded by Paul Hastings in 2014. Having completed his Foundation Degree in Arboriculture in 2004, Paul has ventured into many aspects of the industry. His work has taken him to South Africa and New Zealand where he gained valuable knowledge and experience. Much of the 10 years prior to starting Tenderleaf, Paul was a climbing arborist, contracting to other companies and gaining a wealth of experience from his peers. In between climbing trees, Paul also continued to hone his knowledge and provide independent tree reports and surveys to many large estates, councils and organisations.

Upon moving to Wales in 2014, Paul started Tenderleaf Tree Services. Initially quite small and catering only for the domestic market, Tenderleaf Ltd has now grown into a team of arborists carrying out the highest quality arboriculture across South Wales. “Tree Surgery” is the general term given to the aerial work within trees. This might mean the sympathetic crown reduction of a landmark tree, or the sectional felling (dismantling) of a tree, due to ill health. Tree Surgery is carried out by a “tree surgeon”, however this is an unregulated term that anyone can coin.

Arborists are tree surgeons, but usually those calling themselves “arborists” have a greater awareness of the consequences their actions have on the trees they work on (not always though!). Arborists are usually qualified, experienced and knowledgeable in many aspects of arboriculture not just their removal.

There are however many excellent tree climbers who are extremely efficient at dismantling complicated and technical trees; these people are highly skilled and play a huge part in our industry.

There are many reasons why a tree might require work: It might be because it has outgrown it’s location and now blocking light or a view. It might be because it has become diseased or damaged. It might be part of a routine maintenance regime such as the annual pruning of fruit trees or re-pollarding.

As a minimum requirement all our arborists/tree surgeons hold National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC) qualifications in aerial tree work. They are experienced in not just the takedown of trees but also the pruning and care of trees.

We regularly attend courses to stay up to date with industry standards and best practises.
