South Shields Surf School: what do users think?
Stuart Campbell: I recently had a private 1-1 surf session, working on positioning and catching more waves. Amazing! I gained more in this one hour than the countless spent on YouTube. Nick is a lovely guy, very comfortable to be around in the water with and had me catching more waves from making just a few tweaks.South Shields Surf are also doing great things with their community projects.
Kell waite: Nick was Amazing with my disabled boyfriend..he had such a good time...we will definitely be back and we recommend this place to anyone abled or disabled...such good work everyone does there Thank You
colin forster: My disabled son has just done the surfing and I have to say it was absolutely brilliant. The two instructor's were amazing with him. I can't believe how much he enjoyed the experience. As his dad it was great to see and these guy's need some serious funding because they really do deserve it. A huge thank you.
Scott Peneycad: Great instructors. Especially with the kids
Marc Fishwick: My sister has had nothing but good experiences in the 2-3 times she's been with them, I've joined her today and it's been a dangerous shambles. The whole thing was delayed by one hour, which isn't the end of the world, but we shouldn't have been allowed out in that wind, and that was the owners (I assume owners) words to my sister when I got back.We were picked up by the strong current and were lucky to catch the rocks. Not the schools fault, however, no life jacket offered, and if we didn't have our phone, which most people wouldn't, we'd still be stuck on the rocks or trapped in a strong current.Safety for me was a massive red flag with this school, no one was watching out for us at all.
Mandy Berry: Thoroughly enjoyed my first paddle boarding lesson today at Littlehaven Beach. Learnt such a lot from Jack. All staff lovely. Looking forward to returning to hire a board.
jess: We use south shields surf school regularly they are a brilliant team doing fantastic things for our coast! The booking system is easy to use, the lessons are fantastic and well worth the very reasonable prices for the lessons! My daughter is autistic and loves the water, she is so confident with the coaches who are very calm and encouraging with her! Highly recommend south shields surf school!I love this school so much I recommend them to our scout group for lessons, so far the scouts have done surfing and explorers have done paddle boarding! Both have been fantastic all of the kids and leaders loved it so much they want to do it again, the school were so accommodating, water safety was taught and encouraged, they played some brilliant warm up games and then had a great amount of time in the water! If you are looking for somewhere for group activities I definatley recommend 👌
Finn’s World: The kids enjoyed it that much they wanted to do it again the following day.
ERICA HUTCHIE: I had a great time on the paddle board lesson, class instructors, would recommend 100% ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Joanne Blackwood: Haven't been yet, but got leaflet. Heard from others a great experience. Equipment in with cost and a small changing area.
Helen Brady: I recently was at the school for a beginner SUP lesson along with a few other ladies from a group called The Wild Wanderers, something I've wanted to try for a while. Our instructor was called Nick, what an absolute treat he was to have! I started to feel as if I had made a bad decision as we walked towards the water, Nick had us do a few warm up exercises and showed us how to use our boards correctly. It really helped to loosen my fears and I ended up not having a care in the world once I was on the board in the water, falling in numerous times included. I really appreciated the one to one time Nick gave us all individually to boost our confidence and help us push through with trying to stay standing on the boards and for me, keeping my eyes on the horizon! We absolutely loved our session, thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and positive atmosphere. I can't wait to come back and hire the boards out, I'm hoping to be able to stand for more than 10 seconds, less waves next time for sure!
Graeme: Great service, friendly staff with good local knowledge and tips when out in the water.Would recommend to anyone for lessons or just kit hire.
David Kelly: Excellent service, brilliant advice. Thank you, will pop back again. Dave and leah x
Michael Sleeman: Excellent lesson, really relaxed and helpful.
Marion Curtis: What a great experience. Our instructor Erin was very patient with us (5 complete beginners). Safety was adheard to all the time. Great value for money.
luv shu: Good surfing session and nice beach
Gemma Hyde: Great private paddle boarding lesson today. Friendly and helpful staff and instructors. Had to change location due to the wind and this was manages very smoothly.
Craig Jackson: Amazing experience, brilliant staff, can't recommend it enough
Simon Emmerson: Quality service from the staff would be unreal if they was a photographer there to purchase photos.
Sarah Sutton: Took a few children for a private lesson for my son's 12th birthday. Amazing value, knowledgeable & friendly instructor who made sure the children had an amazing time. They can't wait to go back ahain
Vicky Gray: Amazing the kids love

Longsands Surf School: what do users think?
Wayne Ellis: Good staff
Graeme Short: Thank you to Barry and the gang yet again. Perfect weather and surf. Weve had our annual U12s Cullercoats FC after season treat surfing every year. Without fail the kids loved it once again as usual. Thanks to all the lovely coaches 🤙🏻
Ben H: An absolute blast of the time, the coach was fantastic and energetic and the administrator was just as cool, highly recommend
Get Knotted UK Paracord Tutorials: Staff were excellent, enjoyed the banter. My wife booked us in as a surprise for our anniversary and the conditions were “dirty” half an hour and the entire group we were with had had enough, awesome time.Could see the lesson before ours from the hotel. It was snowing as we got in and with the wetsuits, boots and gloves, we were pleasantly surprised we weren’t cold.Only slight downside was lack of changing areas for ladies. Definitely come ready to go. Swimmers and just a jacket. Bring flip flops to get to the car.
Chris Jones: My daughter and I had a 2 hour group lesson during October half term. I was worried about the cold with it being the end of October but the wetsuits and boots supplied kept us from feeling any cold whatsoever. We both absolutely loved our lesson and both managed to stand many times following instruction. We will be back to hire next time. Fully recommend!
ellie: Positive:Communication,Quality
Helen Benson: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI booked a first time surfing lesson for my daughter, excellent service with the two young girls at the shack very helpful and informative, the 2 hour session was excellent and the instructors were both lovely, very easy website to navigate, great communication and great fun, would definitely recommend.
Urban: Took part in a beginners lesson with my nephew. The actual instructions were quick, simple demonstration on the beach which you repeat a few times but it made sure you understood what to do and then you're pretty much straight in the water for the rest of it. Very positive reinforcement from the trainers who were friendly, enthusiastic and kept a watchful eye especially on the younger learners. Definitely a good first experience for surfing.
CHRIS MUNN: Really good. The Owner likes to shout like an old school P.E teacher but seems a decent bloke. The guys doing the initial training are great. Great experience for all the family.
Alan: Fantastic place to learn to surf.
Mark Newton: Only used them once but they seemed helpful and relaxed. Will definitely be back. Only downside is that they don't take card, but they're happy with a bank transfer
Janine Gargett: Great lesson for 2 children. Good value and thoroughly enjoyed by them both
Nicholas Nelson: Good boards, everybody chill. Pretty certain it's cash only.
Stewart Waugh: The children were booked in for a lesson here today. The team have quality gear and the children were quickly kitted out. They then went to the waters edge to learn how to paddle and progress to a stand after catching a wave. Then it was time to put it into action. The children had a fab time and were all smiles, even after numerous falls. The guide was great with the children and really looked after them. Thank you (Matt I think).
Kathleen Mackie: Fantastic lesson
Thomas ter Horst: Super friendly!

Yonder Womens Surf School: what do users think?
Clare Humble: I’ve just come back from the best few days in Devon at a Beginners Camp. I’ve learned so much and feel like I’ve made real progress and gained huge amounts of confidence. Sally and Tom are brilliant at supporting everyone to reach their own personal goals.Sally teaches in a way that gives you enough direction much also creates space for you to work things out yourself. Tom’s photos were brilliant, not only to have memories of the camp, but importantly, to give you a different perspective of what you’re doing when you’re surfing and what tweaks you can make to improve. The whole group were awesome and super supportive, I loved that everyone was really rooting for each other. We all had our own things that we wanted to work on - there was no competition, just huge amounts of support and encouragement. Everyone had wins and it was lovely to share them with each other. The weekend was filled with lots of laughter and good vibes! There is something very special about Yonder and the community that has been created - I can’t imagine a better start to my surfing!
Molly E: I got back from my Devon beginner surf camp yesterday and I'm still buzzing from the experience. Sally and Tom are not only interested in helping you to get to your feet on a surfboard, they want to ensure that you're equipped with everything you need to be a confident independent surfer, teaching you how waves are formed, how to use different tools to forecast the surf, etiquette in the water and loads more. Their immense passion for surfing is contagious and their teaching style is fun, laid back and super encouraging. I came to the camp as a complete beginner with loads of nerves and have left with nothing but excitement to get back in the water! The other women on the camp were wonderful, the food was delicious and the sunsets were ace - couldn't recommend a Yonder surf camp enough!!
Alex Bushell: Sally and Tom provide such a genuine and immersive surf experience through Yonder. It can sometimes feel a bit intimidating if you’re still quite new, but every interaction and lesson I’ve had with Sally and Tom has made surfing seem more and more accessible. I’ve just got back from the Devon improver camp with more knowledge and excitement for surfing than ever before.3 days of absolutely going for it out there with the rest of the lovely girls who booked on, all encouraging each other and sharing our journeys together. Each evening and rest point between surfs was met with a debrief, where we all sat round together and checked out Tom’s amazing photography of us all from that day. His carefully captured photographs and video clips, giving us an insight into the things we were doing right, and most importantly, how we can improve when we go out next time. They’re both so full of knowledge and so willing to share openly about their lives and surf journey, it’s truly inspiring. The environment they create on these camps is beautiful and wholesome and like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. It’s left me itching to surf more and more as soon as I can! Can’t recommend Yonder enough!
Molly Jowsey: I have just got home from the most wholesome few days on a surf camp with Sally and Tom. Not only do Sally and Tom have the most incredible technical knowledge of surfing, but they teach and share their experience in a relaxed, organic and holistic manner, covering not only technical aspects of catching and riding waves, but of forecasting, safety and etiquette. With small groups Sally really has chance to support every individual on their surf journey and the passion and care she has to support every woman is second to none. I cannot recommend Yonder enough, even their homecooked food on camps is absolutely banging.
Po_ 113: I started my surfing journey with Yonder in 2020 and I have been on the camps three times now including this year! Sally and Tom really care about what they do. The ethos of Yonder is great. I love that they teach us about things that are more than just standing up on our board like surf etiquette, surf forecasting, paddling techniques, board positioning and the culture of surfing. The small group size means that learning is individualised. Each camp, I feel like I can fully immersed myself in learning and each time I go away learning a lot even during the times we had flat surf days. If you are umming and ahing about whether to try surfing, definitely give it a go by booking a lesson with Yonder. You will be hooked!
Bianca Wallis: I've been wanting to attend a Yonder surf camp for a couple of years and it was well worth the wait! Sally and Tom are so caring, encouraging, and supportive in and out of the water. Their authenticity and passion for female surf culture shines through in everything that they do. Attending their surf camp has reignited my confidence and motivation in pursuing my surf journey. I'm so glad to be a part of the Yonder family.
Eunice Mendoza-Miller: Low risk, tremendous reward!Massive thanks Sally and Tom for showing me how to enjoy being in the sea again. This really means a lot.I learned so much more in the surf camp than when I was “regularly-ish surfing” back home. I’ve surfed previously, but where conditions are optimal(think non-freezing consistent breaks, with channels to paddle back) so getting in the North Sea was quite a shock to my system. This camp helped me overcome my reluctance to get in the cold and unfamiliar sea. From day 1, Sally and Tom taught us how to keep safe in the waters and observe surf conditions. I cannot emphasize how much reassurance this gives. Each session was the perfect balance of personalized coaching and having the space to “work it out” myself. From someone who’s lived all her life in daily 30c weather, trust Sally when she says you will get warm once you’re in the water. The surf skate session was fun, you’re transported back to the fun of playing as a kid.Food was always delicious and I couldn’t ask for a better group to do this camp with. Everyone was friendly, supportive, and nice. You’ve reached the end of my review. Take this as your sign to go and book a session/camp with Yonder!Ps.It is a 3-day surf camp. Expect you’ll get tired or experience some muscle ache. It is all worth it though!
Samantha Sherratt: I went on the Scarborough surf camp this last few days and it was such an incredible experience. The level of dedication and care that goes into the entire experience is above and beyond, everything is thought about so carefully, and with the small group, you feel like you get so much attention. It's so great to learn with a small group of women (who were as lovely as Sally and Tom, who are next level great) and to have each other to follow and cheer on.The teaching is so detailed - I now feel like I understand so much about surfing that wouldn't have even entered my brain I would need to know, but that means that I now have the confidence to be able to look at where I want to go, look at the waves when I get there, and figure out how I'm best going into the water and what to do when I get in there.SO SO USEFUL AND FUN!The photo feedback, the films we watched, the surf journal, the skateboarding lessons, the delicious food, all of it made such a perfect couple of days. Feels weird to think I'm not going in the water with everyone again tomorrow! I'm hooked :DTHANK YOU!!!Also, I've bought clothes from Yonder, and they are cracking. Great t-shirts and hoodies, awesome socks, and the zinc smells amazing.Highly recommend this company in every way, thank you!
Gina Ruffin: Sally and Tom have created such a beautiful and supportive school for women to surf. Went to the beginner’s camp and learnt so much more than just ‘popping up’ - gained the confidence to understand surf conditions independently, analyse technique, paddle(!!), learn at my own pace and meet some fab people along the way. Thank you for an amazing camp and everything you’re doing for women’s sport and surf culture! Go Yonder 🧡
Heather Tarran-Jones: I’ve just had the most wonderful 4 weeks of surfing as part of Yonder’s ‘Madre’ sessions! It’s rare that I look forward to taking a dip in the North Sea on a snowy morning, but Sally and my lovely new Madre mates made it such a joy! Such a sense of freedom and release as I entered the waves and left my busy thoughts and everyday stresses behind to steal a couple of glorious hours just for me! Sally has a knack of putting everyone at ease and was great at supporting each of us at just the right pace. So excited to move my surf journey on now!
Michaela Murphy: I just finished a four week Madre course with Yonder and have loved every minute of it.Until you give birth and become a mother it’s difficult to comprehend the enormous physical changes that take place in your body and the impact these changes have on both your physical and mental self. In the immediate aftermath of the birth, motherhood becomes all encompassing. It can become increasingly difficult with the passage of time to find both the physical strength, motivation and confidence to get back into the water. Yonder’s Madre sessions have provided me the opportunity to draw from the collective strength of new and seasoned mothers who find or have found themselves in the same position as me. The sessions provided me with a much needed release and a reminder of what a positive impact surfing can have on one’s mental state. Thank you Sally for running the Madre sessions, and for understanding the challenges we mothers can face in prioritising our own needs.
Laurie Endean-Olsen: For years I have wanted to surf. Recently I became one of the Madre’s taking part in the Wednesday sessions. It has been a life changer… through Sally’s infectious love and passion for the Sea and Surf and her fantastic instruction I have felt an enjoyment and accomplishment I haven’t come close too for aaaages.I thoroughly enjoyed the past 4 Wednesdays and have learnt that taking time out from “Mamming” to create a space for myself is incredibly beneficial to make me a better human, woman, partner and Mamma. The feeling of achievement and the buzz from the sea, surf and the company in the waves has been the highlight of my week.Thank you Sally and Tom!I’m hooked…. I want more… let’s go!!
Ellie Land: Superb coaching from Sally. Her supportive and gentle approach enabled me to gain confidence as a beginner . She provides bespoke advice about technique and her knowledge of the water and weather systems is outstanding . I can’t wait to continue my surf journey with Yonder.
CandJ Bramley-Wright (Fell and Furrow): I’ve absolutely loved being part of the Madre Mothers Surf Club. A great incentive to get back in the water with a group of supportive women. Being in the sea every Monday morning has been so so good. It’s been such an amazing opportunity to take part in these sessions. I can’t thank Sally ( and Tom) enough. She looked after us so well with encouragement, great equipment (I love a womper!) and delicious coffee.I’ve tried surfing in the past but have never had such fantastic direction as provided by Sally. Things I’ve struggled to get for years have finally started to click. I can’t wait to practice these tips and hopefully see some familiar faces in the water.
kerstin heckelsmuller: Having had the opportunity to experience Sally and Tom's skill, knowledge, integrity and enthusiasm for the last 3 years in lessons, clubs and the intermediate camp this year, I can honestly say that there is no better place to learn how to surf - especially if you are interested in learning more than the just quickest way to pop up. If you want to learn about reading and understanding wave and weather conditions, suitable types of surfboards, surf etiquette, etc., and all that in an ever-growing community of north-east cold water surfing women, who cheer for and look out for each other, then Yonder is your ticket.
Kaia: Yonder is special. It feels like Sally and Tom truly want to share their love of surfing and welcome others into their world - what I have learnt from 2 coaching courses and a camp has gone way beyond what I ever thought it would when I moved to Tynemouth.Trying something new as an adult is always difficult but Yonder’s attention, encouragement and non-judgemental coaching style has been so empowering. Their emphasis on understanding conditions and etiquette has also given me the knowledge and confidence to safely go out alone or on a busier day, and I’ve gone from flailing around in the white water feeling slightly embarrassed/intimidated (pre-Yonder!), to being able to paddle out back, catch green waves and most importantly enjoy it! They create such a genuinely supportive and non-competitive environment and I am so grateful to have been able to meet people to surf with outside of lessons as well. THANK YOU!
Paula Glancy: Always an amazing experience surfing with Sally. I have taken part in 2 of the club sessions (5 lessons each) and have just got home from a weekend beginner camp to Scarborough. I have progressed so much since starting back in June and it's all thanks to Sally. Her small classes mean she has time for everyone. All her tips are gold - she will tell you to change one tiny thing, and it'll change everything, it will just click! Can't wait to try and get booked onto some improver sessions next time they're released. Thanks Sally, Tom and Yonder!
Finn Willingham: Just been on a surf camp with Yonder to Scarborough - Sally and Tom make a brilliant team, providing insightful coaching whilst making the whole experience so much fun. Yonder’s USP for me is its genuine desire to encourage & support women to learn how to surf - and that involves a lot more than board skills alone. I’m now much better equipped to find the surf, stay safe in the water &, on top of all that, have met a great bunch of women on the camp to go surfing with in future. I thoroughly recommend Yonder for women of all ages who want to surf and be confident in the water.
Therese McCollam: These guys are truly amazing. They really work with individuals needs and wants to give such a positive experience and are so friendly and approachable, just class!
Michelle Brassell: Yonder's approach to teaching surfing is unique. Sally runs her lessons and camps with small groups, meaning you get a lot of 1 on 1 time, heaps of encouragement and technique tips. Yonder is doing great things to empower women surfers of all ages. Can't thank you enough and can't wait to get back in the sea!
Kate Kirkwood: Sally is such an intuitive and passionate surf instructor; she takes the time to understand where you are at on your surf journey and how to fine tune everything you are doing on the board to make it work for you. A truly supportive and holistic approach to surfing.

Yonder Girls Surf Club: what do users think?
Laura Y: Have just completed 5 week surf club with Sally and absolutely loved it!Sally is by far the best surf teacher I’ve had, she is so knowledgeable and passionate about surfing it’s impossible not to enjoy yourself! Sally doesn’t just focus on getting you to pop up on the waves-she teaches you to read waves, understand surf forecasts, surf technique and etiquette all of which build your confidence and help you to become a safe and independent surfer. If you’re considering trying surfing or want to build/improve your existing your surf skills book in with Yonder you won’t regret it!
Sophie Buxton: My two girls have really loved their surf lessons here. Sally puts time and care into every detail, so they were warm!! in the sea, felt safe and confident. The small groups make a lot of difference; the girls learnt skills and tips that will help them to practice, built their confidence and they had a fun time. We definitely want to come back!
