Tony Watterson Music Tuition: what do users think?
christian boyd: So I started playing in February and thought I would teach myself, but after a couple of months I would find someone to help with the theory aspect of it.Along came Tony and in the 4 or 5 lessons (weekly) I have had since he's made the process a lot smoother and gave me a lot of handy hints and ways to improve as well as a more structured idea of where to go next along the process of learning guitar. As well as a good experienced teacher and someone to smoothen out the process, he's also a gent and couldn't be a nicer person, couldn't recommend him anymore.
Edward Rolfe: I started taking Accordion lessons with Tony just under a year ago and the progress I have made is amazing. He isn't scary like alot of teachers can be and keeps you motivated to keep working hard. He also tailors your lessons to what you want to achieve. I'm a studying actor and am wanting to play my instrument on stage. Therefore my lessons have been focused on passing my exams for my CV and learning to play traditional music from different nations! He has tailored my lessons to my goals and he will do the same for yours. I can't recommend him enough.
Stephen Belshaw: I found Tony in November via social media recommendations for my 9 year old son to start guitar lessons. Tony was really helpful in accommodating a slot for my busy schedule. Very fair price compared to others I had researched. My son had never played a guitar and has come on leaps and bounds thanks to Tony. He has enjoyed going to his weekly lessons and he describes Tony as patient, fun and kind he’s always excited to see what he’s going to learn next!
Pete Duffy: My son has been attending piano accordion lessons with Tony for 4 years. From the start Tony struck up a great relationship with him, taking him on a journey from absolute beginner. He is knowledgeable, professional and patient. He is able to challenge Eoin, and also take into account our own request to learn Irish music alongside a wide variety of other styles. He is flexible and has adapted to using Skype/zoom during the pandemic.
Graeme Jump: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueTony originally tutored me on accordion but subsequently introduced me to the guitar. His enthusiasm, patience, and friendliness make his teaching sessions great fun . Tony's considerable music experience is underplayedbut the student feeds in to it in a relaxed unpressured way.
Bryan Pollard: I have been having accordion lessons with Tony for around 7 years. When I first bought the instrument I tried to teach myself using a tutorial book, it didn't go very well. I started lessons with Tony and with the one to one tuition and detailed knowledge he has I made real progress. I have found that as you start to become able to play at one level there are always more intricate techniques that Tony introduces to help you progress to another level. Thank you Tony.
Steven Pierce: My son started lessons with Tony when he was seven, and we've been delighted. Tony is great with kids, patient, encouraging, and just challenging enough. He listens, and he adapts his lessons to what my son has done and what he wants to play. He gives great positive encouragement, and supportive criticism. I don't think my kid is going to become a superstar musician, so Tony's teaching is even more important: he's learning to play music and to love it.
Mirjam Blaauw: My son has had guitar lessons for about two years and has learned so much, I’m really impressed at how well he can play now. He recently switched to an electric guitar (sorry, neighbours) and Tony has been extremely helpful in advising which one would be best for him. Tony is highly flexible in his teaching, always happy to answer questions which can range from basic technical skills to some advanced strumming technique my son happened to ‘invent’ on his own, he even makes music theory interesting and encourages input for new tunes to learn. The main reason for the progress, however, is because Tony has made him experience that practice doesn’t have to be a chore. The lessons are still way more fun than practicing alone (the chats, the giggles, they’re just as valuable as the serious stuff) but my son has transformed from someone who rushed his homework to be done with it to someone we have to tell to keep it down a bit because, well…the neighbours. Moving his focus from the goal to the journey is quite an important lesson for a 10-year-old.My son’s comment says it all when, at the end of a Skype-session, he puts away his guitar: ‘That was fun!’
Vivienne Cowie: Having seen Tony perform at the North Staffs Accordion Club he was my first choice of teacher. I had been playing the accordion for about 2 years and was keen to learn how to accompany a singer, improve my bass playing and develop performance confidence.Tony has excellent technical ability with a range of instruments and a lifetime of performance and entertainment expertise. His teaching is modelled according to my needs which I regard as an important skill for the teaching of adults. He delights in helping to progress my personal choice of music and aspirations. He has patience, is generous with his time, instils confidence and puts me at ease. He gives clear instruction and provides interesting pieces for improving skills. I very much enjoy his lessons which are good fun as well as effective instruction.I feel I have made progress and have started to perform on a regular basis. I have no hesitation in recommending Tony as a teacher of a range of instruments to all ages. His Skype lessons have been invaluable during lockdown and are an enjoyable highlight of the week. Thank you Tony!
Julie Powell: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityTony’s approach to lessons are perfect. A combination of fun and technical training. My daughter started as a total beginner with no previous musical experience and has progressed beyond all of our expectations.
Franziska Smith: I have been taught the accordion by Tony for 1.5 years now. He is a very good teacher, willing to go through things with you and will let you learn at your own pace. Tony puts effort into helping you achieve what you are aiming for. He is willing to teach you pieces of your choice (will even write them out especially for you) alongside with the 'curriculum' pieces. This post is written on behalf of my 13 year old son.
elizabeth seers: Tony is a really excellent teacher, because he is committed to helping students improve their skills at the same time as enjoying the music. He’s a great mix of fun and high standards, and he goes the extra mile to encourage you to play well. I took up the accordion a while back and he has taught me so much and turned me into a mad accordion lover ( in a good way). He’s also a great musician!
Eric Jones: Tony has been teaching me the accordion since well before lockdown. As a poor music reader, he has (with great patience) taught me to be a better music reader. My accordion playing has much improved and I look forward to our weekly lessons. He has a structured approach but is always happy "add a tune or two" that you may introduce.Since lockdown we have been doing lessons via Skype or Zoom with few issues. We have also recently added blues harmonica to the lesson which I find great fun.Not only a good teacher, but he has become a good friend too.
Malcolm Trippier: Last January 2020 after years of wanting a piano accordion I purchased one. After about a month struggling to get both hands doing different things I contacted Tony. It was the best thing I could have done , as I had an accordion and not a clue how to play it.With a lot of help, guidance and teaching ability he has got me playing tunes that I would have thought impossible when I first started. I am 79 years old and if I can do it with Tony,s help don’t let age or anything else put you off. He has certainly taught this old dog some new tricks. Thanks Tony 👍
Alan Robinson: I have had guitar lessons in the past and none compare to Tony. He is calm ,patient and understanding. He will start with the basics and work up with you for your preferred instrument and genre. He will mix things up a bit to keep you going and interested. I just wanted to play some blues 18 months ago and now starting to understand and read music. Great to be able to carry on via skype now aswell
Simone Butt: Tony's guitar lessons for my 11 year son are inspiring, fun and professional. My son has improved massively and is looking forward to his weekly lessons. There is a good mix of challenging technical exercises and ,often chosen by my son, relevant musical pieces. Tony's communication is also excellent. He's also super patient when he knows my son hasn't practised enough!
Neil Andrew: I find Tonys lessons a pleasure to go to. Learning to play guitar did not come easy to me but his patience and method of teaching quickly gave me the confidence and ability to play fairly competently within a few weeks. The great thing was that after a short while, he allowed me to pick some of my favourite tunes and then taught me how to play them. A big learning incentive I felt.

Booths Music: what do users think?
P Tatey: A true jewel in Bolton and exceptional staff that understand music fully. Superb...!
Joanne Cox: I’ve just visited Booths Music shop today. They went above and beyond to help my son with sorting out a chin rest for his violin. Fantastic service and really lovely staff, this will be our first choice for a music store in the future. Thank you so much!Joanne.
Brian Shorten: Colin and his team give a great service. Lots of useful information and help, whether you are buying, just looking, or asking for advice.Don't buy from Amazon, Argos etc. Talk to a professional.Ukulele lessons with Nick are great too.
irv Campbell: A very busy music school with a wide variety of teachers. The shop has a wide selection of musical instruments, sheet music and knowledgeable staff. They must be doing something right as they have been going since 1832.
Patrick McGhee: Originally discovered Booths while seeking repairs on an acoustic guitar. These were completed quickly and to an excellent standard, and a full breakdown of the repairs was provided. Chatting with the staff, I quickly realised that Booths is home to a kind, welcoming, and dedicated community of musicians and teachers. I enquired about acoustic guitar lessons and met with Lee, one of the instructors. As a beginner with no prior experience, I am exceedingly happy with the progress I have made over seven lessons so far. This is down to Lee’s knowledge, patience, support, and encouragement throughout. He is a superb tutor, able to communicate the subtleties and complexities of the discipline in a style that emphasises accessibility and enjoyment as well as passion for music. Highly recommended.
Paul steventon: SAVED THE DAY !!!Phoned to ask about transferring music of my dad singing for his funeral from tape to MP3. Gave me great advice that saved the day. Thank you so much James.
Afnan Gohar: Been coming to Booth’s Music for drum lessons and practice for the past 7 months and everybody in the shop is amazing! My drum teacher has been super supportive and I have improved so much overtime. Really recommend Booth’s Music to anyone looking to get music lessons :)!
Manuela Mendes: As an international student at the university, I had a really hard time to find a place to practice my instruments (specially the piano) when I arrived at the UK, until I found this place. They lend rooms for a very affordable price and the place is conveniently located close to many student accommodations (around 5 minutes walking). They always have viability and plenty variety of pianos to practice on.Besides that, the staff is very friendly. They always treat me well when I arrive. I even received a Bach music sheet once as a gift from the violin teacher, and I'm not even his student.I also fixed my guitar there for a very affordable price, and they did a great good job.Really nice place and people. I super recommend.
Alex Goulding: I've been taking trumpet lessons at Booth's for nearly 6 months now and I can't speak highly enough of the shop and the service that they offer. After buying a second hand trumpet elsewhere, I took it into the shop and had it cleaned and serviced by Tony, who did an excellent job with it for a very reasonable price. He even took it back into his workshop at no extra cost, a week or so later, when one of the valves was sticking again - and I have had no problems with it since! My lessons with Jac are great - from starting out as a complete beginner in February, I've seen a huge progression to where my playing is at now.The lessons are engaging, professional and personable - always reflecting my personal musical interests while at the same time teaching me the basics of the instrument and working towards doing a trumpet grade. My progress has been massively helped by the team allowing me to practice in one of their rehearsal rooms on my dinner break, as I can't really practice at home due to upsetting the neighbours!Tony, Jean, Colin and the rest of the team at Booth's are always friendly, accommodating and happy to help. Thanks so much Booth's!
Susan Olueh: My daughters have been learning how to play the keyboard and guitar with Booths music, they love coming and have enjoyed thier lessons each time.
Tony Higgins: Went to sell 4 guitars. Knowlegable staff with a lot of experience. Got a fair price too. Lots of folk there having lessons. Great range of musical instruments available at prices to suit all pockets.
Cheryl Anderton: The staff at Booth's are amazing in what they do, friendly and very patient. I really wished I could be carrying on, but at the same time I'm just not feeling it at the moment, so it's not fair for me to be wasting any body's time. I'm hoping that I might return to try picking it back up within a few years, and I would recommend Booth's to anybody starting out, adult or child. Not only where Booth's good with me, but my little neice had a 1 off lesson with them and loved it. Super staff, super service! (5 stars from me).
Alexander Bell: Great service
Paul Reid: I love the service for my daughter's piano lessons
Tom Fisher: Friendly and insightful regarding instruments and upkeep. It really is worth buying from them Vs Amazon or an online retailer.
Pammy Lam: Friendly and nice staff
Bubblegum Blue: Called in today for a few things. Staff were friendly and helpful. Quite a popular place judging by all the customers 😁
Dan Lever: More than a shop, Booth's is a community hub for musicians of all stripes and persuasions. Staff that go the extra mile, and expert teachers of every instrument. Highly recommended
Dagan Bateson: BOOTHS MUSIC is a wonderful local musical place in Bolton, That will sort out your musical needs with staff that value all their customers and student's and will support you with any advice you have!10/10 would recommend.
Andy Irving: I took my most prized acoustic (Taylor custom 516e) in for a setup and I’m blown away.
Billy Appleton: I was here last Saturday for a guitar lesson and the second i entered the store i was met with a friendly atmosphere and polite cheerful people i have decided to make this place my go to for anything music related and also the lesson i had was professional ,fun and overall opened my eyes to what i was lacking so if your thinking of learning an instrument or in need of musical supplies then go here !!!!!!!.
