Stockport Crematorium and Cemetery: what do users think?
Zoe Alexander: This has been my parents heaven since they passed it always kept beautifully the gardens x
Stephen Hayes: I found it very disappointing that your mercenary decision to advertise funeral directors for a fee and not publish a simple map showing the Chapels, the Pavillion and car parks and areas of disabled parking. Do you care to appreciate how confusing your grounds are, limited signage and a one way system designed by a cyclist.
Kara Hartley-Higham: Helpful staff. Disabled parking spaces are few.. wheelchair accessible
pauline: Parking. Signposts. It's a crematorium.
Neena Wilson: Just phoned now as we're trying to trace a loved one who died a very long time ago and spoke to a wonderful and very friendly lady called Vicky who is now going to search through handwritten ledgers and will call me back - I didn't expect that level of service - even if we can't find him, I'm so grateful for her help x
Carol Sykes: I organised a very simple funeral for my brother in law through Simplicity funerals on line, associated with Stockport Crematorium. I received first class treatment from start to finish and nothing was too much trouble. The service was chosen to be private and no fuss, and the representative from the Crematorium couldn’t have been more helpful.
andygreyrider GRN1998: Pretty poor if I can only attend a grave between such short hours.9am - 4.30pm is a joke.If I knew that I wouldn't have bothered paying thousands to be locked out!
Paul Lavin: A well run crematorium.
Stephen Martyn: I telephoned last week, waited along time for someone to answer, eventually a lady answered who doesn't even work there and said she would ask the people at the crem call me about finding details of my Grandads grave. It's been almost a week now, no call yet. I'll try again if no answer I'll give another review. Poor service. It's my Grandad!
Jeff Jones: Everything went to plan staff very respectful and professional
Tracey Davies: Who wants to be here, it's always going to be the last goodbye 😔😭😞 Luv u Daddio 💕
Peter Hornby: Went to a funeral star rating doesn't seem appropriate
Geoff Chapman: I attended the funeral of an Uncle in September this year. The service was held in the Cyprus Chapel. I found that the area outside appeared not to have been swept for a considerable time. The steps into the Chapel needed a good scrub and the white painted lines on the steps where worn. Inside, the Chapel need money spent to update the facility, it really presents as very worn and shabby, with a mustie damp smell. Please invest in this facility and upgrade ASAP, it's current presentation doesn't reflect well on Stockport.
Robyn Adams: I'm sure the service provided is lovely, but the cemetery itself makes me miserable. It isn't particularly well kept overall, and most of the graves are either overgrown, smashed up or toppled over. It's really choked up, and there's something more than a little depressing about that. I know that some memorials were laid horizontally for safety reasons, but they could at least have been done with the inscriptions facing upwards. I know people have found exposed bones around the cemetery at times. I'd also like to mention the creepy wilderness round the back full of slashed-up tents which is quite freaky. Knowing that staff from the crematorium were lovely helping with a funeral I went to in January this year, I've got to hand it to them for being lovely and knowing exactly what to do. The issue itself just lies in the graveyard which, frankly, is more than a little grim, and not in the usual way.
Emily Beer: Was very disappointed today as we went to view the book of remembrance only to find it was closed. It is very disrespectful to the families of people who are grieving and only have one day a year where they can go to view their relatives page. There is no warning online or anywhere on your site. People have paid a lot of money and may have travelled a long way on a sad and important day to be confronted with a locked door. This room would be easy to comply with covid as you aren't touching anything other than the door handle as the books are in a glass case and could easily only allow one set of people in at a time. I am disgusted at the disrespect of these peoples memories and think you need to think about your protocols.
Christopher Smalley: Memory of Grandma Vera, she married to Granddad Eric on Saturday 3rd November 1951
Joyce Winder: Could have more signs to help you go to right place on site. Nice rooms for service. Also could have a main road sign, because is difficult to know where to turn into the entrance, when don't go often.
Darren Williamson: Peaceful place to bury loved ones.
Christopher Taylor: Easy to find. 192 bus drops you at the front gate.
treaclesmith: THANK YOU!!! so much for a beautiful chapel,( ROWAN CHAPEL ) warm & welcoming, great atmosphere, modern,. & bright. .. Tranquil gardens, well maintained, One never notices these places unless you have cause to attend,, Helps to ease the pain of loosing your loved one,
Shaye: Very beautiful service. Staff are so kind and respectful. The gardens are kept beautifully. What a peaceful and tranquil place. Thank you to all the staff involved, you made the day easier for the family to go through.

Willow Grove Cemetery: what do users think?
karen butcher: Beautifully kept private cemetery in the centre of Reddish. Contains war graves.
Mark H: My grandad buried there he was in the Somme war and twice cheated death but eventually passed aged 83 to eternal life in spirit of the the almighty john albert duggan Bolton street reddish Stockport
John B H: Very peaceful place with some interesting local history and is one of Stockport's oldest cemeteries containing over 35 000 burials. It was created in 1877 at a time when the population was expanding during the industrial revolution. It was a private cemetery but now run by Stockport council. Part of the cemetery is a Commonwealth War Grave. Joseph Lister VC 1886-1963 is buried here towards the boundary with housing.. Sir Thomas Thornbill Shann, who was from a humble background but became lord mayor of Manchester in 1905 is buried here. The cemetery had a tree trail, a heritage trail and a military trail and there are signs in the park to guide you. There are a number of unusual trees in the cemetery including an American sweetgum which has spectacular coloured foilage in Autumn. If you want to photograph the impressive monuments a sunset or early morning trip will get the best light. It is open every day including bank holidays.
Colette Boswell: Great place for a walk around. History of some people buried there on plaques as you walk around and plenty of war graves. Sheila from friends of the cemeteries has really cleaned this place up. I love walking around there now x

Stuart Allen: Our son was buried here in may 2020 i thought it was a nice place for our son to be put at rest. But since we put him there we have had nothing but trouble of the hartless staff. I made him a frame with the words DADDY BROTHER UNCLE AND HIS KYLE, i was then threatened that if i dont move them they wint allow my son stone to be put down, i moved the frame and the next morning i had a call from stone masotan saying that they refused buy the cemetery for it to go down, i went to cemetery to see what going on to find that all our sine flowers plaks and little presents from his 5 year old son had all been
wendy drennan: Beautiful as cemeteries go, the public toilet is closed to the public due to the pandemic
Laura Sallemi: I love the serenity and calmness here. Its comforting for the grieving.
gem murphy: Well kept and the groundsmen are very respectful, they were digging out a grave next to my grandad who was recently buried and when we arrived at my grandads graveside they respectfully and quietly snook off to the side of the road and returned as we got back in the car to continue, they also swept away the mud from around my grandads grave that had gathered due to their digging.
Angela Ireland: What a difference from Stockport Cemetary. Beautiful and well kept.
Jean Capaldi: Thank you Diane Rig.I telephoned on 15th May to express to Diane that I didn't like the gravel chippings that I had put on my husbands grave, I thought at the time it would mark the grave however I now don't like it!!, I asked if there was anyway it could be put back to its original state, Diane was so helpful and understanding and said she would attend to it. Today Diane rang me to tell me she had returned the grave to its original. What a thoughtful brilliant service. Very grateful Jean Capaldi

Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery: what do users think?
Patrick Steele: Place of remembrance, and community space for art exhibitions
Richard Dempsey: Beautiful building. Kept very clean. Staff helpful. Exhibitions are always interesting . Enjoyable experience
judith lomax: A warm and welcoming place with changing exhibitions. Always something new to discover.
Peterrees Rees: Very good. Went to a bike art exhibition.
Michelle Thomson: Lovely artwork
Barbara Boswell: Great art exhibition.
Paula Pugh: Cute little gallery showcasing artwork by modern artists that you could also buy if you fancy an original piece of work and have a few hundred quid.Lady on the front desk was lovely and polite 😊
Nick Wakelam: Amazing indoor memorial. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ever changing exhibitions in the galleries and all free
Andrew Egerton: An excellent choice of exhibitions month after month after month
Carl Nicholls: Cool place to visit. Worth a look round and the exhibits always changing
Infinite Art: Fantastic gallery
Vinoth Karthiga: It's heart touching and pleasant feeling also it explained the super heros who fought and faced the challenges and final success 👏
p.f. Badcock: A lovely space with very good exhibitions. A modern day exodus by Nick Ridehalgh is stunning & beautiful
peter bloyce: Lovely calm and eye opening. The exhibition of aboriginal art was inspiring
Fiona Reynolds: A small gallery and the length of time you spend is dependent on the exhibitions. There are three exhibition rooms and one of them was in use by an art group so I didn't wish to intrude. The gallery staff are very friendly and the Gallery obviously takes pride in presenting very thought provoking exhibitions - the two I saw today focuses on displacement from home and ancestral lands.
stuart newton: Went to see our neighbours paintings displayed, the space is just right and he had enough wall space to project his paintings well.
Sophi b: Really good. Was there for some art work to be reveled but had a look around, spoke to the staff all lovely helpful people. Really clean areas. Would return. Love the tea dispenser for money
karon knapman: Some lovely, but very pricey pieces of art work in here...
Jessica Sinclair: This is a pretty radical design for 1925 to build an internal war memorial and encorporate into it 3 art gallery rooms to enlighten the hearts and minds of those in grief! The building alone is a masterpiece. And grade 2* listed.Standing farely elevated above the rest of Stockport a top of a good flight of 20 plus steps, is this neo classical Greek temple of Apollo.Entering into a marble floored foyer with 1 wee gallery either side of it. To the right of the foyer are 2 flights of stairs with a lovely tall arched window leading to a landing with small circular ceiling window. To the right is a balcony overlooking the backroom alter room lit naturally with a much larger domed glass ceiling window, with white marble statue to the dead, with the walls flanking it covered with thousands of names of the fallen from both world wars. On the other side of the landing is the biggest gallery. Each gallery has a different artist's work on display. Which apparently changes every season.Apparently the building was also designed for a shaft of sunshine to strike the statue on the 11th of the 11th at 11am which must look farely awesome flanked by the 2 bright green marble pillars. The curator was lovely, welcoming friendly and informative.A good find.Entrance is free
Sheila Knotts: Wonderfully cool & peaceful on a hot day. Visited Stockport Art Societies exhibition, a retrospective of an Art Society member & second year exhibition of Stoçkport college students. Paid my respects to the war memorial as well.
B O'TOOLE: Very pleasant volunteers

Southern Cemetery: what do users think?
Dean Pattinson: I won't be ordering againThe fish was burnt, after eventually biting though the battery there was the smallest amount of cod present. The price of £16 for 2 fish and 1 chips . I thought this has got to be a good chippy for the price, don't get me wrong the food came in a lovely box , but think that's what we paid for .Sorry but I think this chippy needs look into the quality of food not presentation
M P: Lots of polish surnames I found on this cemetry mainly people which emigrated after 2nd world war (soldiers)
Dale Sullivan: Saaaaaaad waaaaaaaa!
ALI IMRAN: i find this place peaceful
Terry Davison (#Sim-Driver-GT17): Destroyed baby garden afew years ago my daughter has ashes around first tree near baby rememberence benches all plaques where renewed and my daughters spot has changed why no explanation nothing they don't care about our feelings etc absolutely disgusting
Ocean: I love walking through at night.
Sylvia Chiu: Beautiful Cemetery !!❤️Very peaceful with lots of trees 🌳 and greenery !! 🌱 🌿 🌾
Susan Haynes: I went to Southern Cemetary today to visit my dad's graveWhat I saw upset me.The grass around the grave in fact around all the graves in the vicinity was badly overgrown. This leads me to believe that the grass has not been cut for sometime. I find this disrespectful to the people who have passed away and find it immensely upsetting for the people visiting their loved ones graves.
emilson kafintu: A very cool and nicely kept place. This place is big. You need to know where you are going or else....you will be lost like I did
PETE FRYS: Peaceful and well kept, staff always helpful.
sohail khan: Well. Organized, peace full, calm surrounding.
Ian welburn: I have a 10year leased based plaque since 1999 on the wall in the Crematorium for my relatives. There’s also a trench to place memorial vases to place flowers for your loved ones. I bought a new heavy stone vase with the names of my family on it at a cost of £135, and placed, with fresh flowers, it into the trench as near as I could to the plaque. This was for my father’s 15th anniversary in October. I went today 18/12 to find my new vase missing. Also there was another family searching for theirs. We were informed by a visitor that removed vases are put into a alcove at the end of the wall. We went and found our vases dumped with hundreds of others. When I found mine it was chipped and the gold flower insert missing. What the hell the gardening team are doing is way out of order.I advise any family who have their loved ones cremated at Southern Cemetery to seriously think about spending any money on memorials, because they are treated with contempt. I live some fifty miles away fro there, but turn up with flowers on Birthdays, Anniversaries, Mothers and Fathers Day and Xmas so it’s not that the memorial is not used.Come one Crematorium Staff sort yourselves out, and leave the used vases alone. You can tell them by the flowers placed in them
patrick leonard: Immaculate cemetery with many graves of historic and notable graves from Sir Matt Busby to LS Lowery to Charles Sacre to Rob Gretton to G Gordon Jefferson who is Stan Laurels brother and many other people from history
Adrian Kø: special place for Autumn walks & reflections
bumpis adventures: Good to see the team from grave tending Manchester doing a clean up todaySeriously worth a look on Google for these guys if you struggle to look after your family plotNice cemetery
xMehhyx: Its a graveyard, nothing much to say, its a sad place
Salim Moidin: A beautiful place, there is carpark now.It is nice to go now in the warm weather.I will be there again on Monday evening.InshahAllah.
Jill: Beautiful cemetry especially the old part. Certain staff very unhelpful and dismissive which is a shame as this is not a representation of how a place of rest should be. I have had the experience of staff being rude and unapprocable as if I was a hinderence to them and everything was too much trouble. More recently within the new part there is a large Asian community which I have evidenced them driving over gravestones in their cars which appears not to be addressed by Manchester Council. The new part of the cemetry is poorly managed.
Derrick Kofi Asante: Clean and spacious environment
Kathy Smith: Atmosphere is dead
Vincent Jones: The biggest cemetery in the UK, a worthy place to lay to rest. The crematorium is also worthy of praise. Beautifully kept grounds, excellent layout, garden borders and plots. Ideally, the public toilets could do with crowd funding to bring them up to modern standards. I would give financially to an official fund if one was created. Also, there are just too many grave stones damaged by falling over from ground heave or other reasons. They can be put right also, perhaps through crowd funding??
