East Park retains its Victorian heritage of planting with trees, shrubs, rose beds, herbaceous plants, spring and summer bulbs, bedding, ferns, grasses, and bamboos.

The Rockery built in the 1930s is planted with a wide range Alpines, and features two ponds. One pond is managed to encourage wildlife such as newts, frogs, and damsel flies, while the other has ornamental fish.

In 2015, the original crazy paving path just to the north of the Titanic Engineers Memorial was lifted and re-laid. Some slabs were replaced with mosaic designs created by the Nicholstown Residents Association, depicting the international heritages of Southampton’s residents.

In 2016, the entrance to Park Walk is to be enhanced and moved south a little to align with the portico of the Guildhall via a new street created with the development of the Southampton new arts complex building, linking Guildhall Square with the parks.

The Nautical Mile Café serves a range of hot and cold snacks, all day breakfasts, and lunches. The café is open daily from 8:30am until 4pm, with extended hours to 5pm starting in April. Mini-golf will be open from April during the café operating hours, and the hard court games area has been resurfaced and is open for free play use. Additionally, the park is easily accessible by public transport with nearby bus stops outside Southampton City Art Gallery on Commercial Road.
