Tutorful: what do users think?
Agnes Paul: have been charging me even on days that classes were not held, its shameful
Isabelle Cristine da Costa: Tutorful has considerably increased tuition prices without considering the increase of living costs, which both students and tutors are also experiencing. They are taking 35% of tutor earnings per lesson, which is a ridiculously high commission rate while they shut down their phone service and barely reply to emails. Most of my students quit the website over the overpriced lessons.
Gone With the Wind: Really happy with their service, tried many other apps and Tutor providers and this works best for me. Found 2 amazing Maths and English tutors for my daughter. Prices are more affordable as well compare to others private tutors.
Ravish “Rav” Sharma: Thieves : Please don't enable your auto debit details with TutorfulThieves: Please don't enable your auto debit details with Tutorful. They will do deductions without informing you.We were doing maths lesson for our daughter for few months until we had to postpone the lesson as my daughter was not well. I informed the the teacher about postponing the lesson about 20 hours before the lesson and cancelled it after she responded. But still they deducted 50% fee for the lesson and £5 for cancelling the lesson. I did not get any message or info while cancelling the lesson. When I asked why they have deducted the money they started showing me thousands lines of terms and condition where it was mentioned somewhere. Even though tutor has asked them to refund the money they are still not ready to refund the money. Shame on the company they are robbing on the name of child education.
Syed Muhammad Ahsan: It’s a real shame I’m having to write this review as one-star as I have tutored A-Level Maths and Sciences via Tutorful for almost 1600 hours now and the recent increase in price on the name of inflation and rising Buisness cost is just ridiculous. The inflation in the UK is around 10% at the moment whereas the increase in the platform fee on the name of service charge is much higher than the inflation. The platform used to take 20% and have suddenly increased that to 35% putting it on the student side which is totally unfair. This has directly affected my Buisness and resulted in several students finding themselves in a difficult situation as the A-Level exams are coming nearer and the country is going through the worst cost of living crisis.Apart from that the abrupt cancellation of the classes program and the transition of the customer support to not include phone lines is also not a good thing.I would request Tutorful to review these changes and come up with a more sensible plan like all buisnesses to deal with the rising operational costs because of high inflation.
Matt 9681: I've been a tutor on the platform for many years. However, like others have mentioned in their reviews Tutorful have got very greedy, they used to charge a 20% fee, but recently this has increased. Now a £37 lesson, is split £24.05 to the tutor and £12.95 to Tutorful for doing.. nothing? I would understand if they had a finders fee for the first 10 hours for example, and a small fee for using the classrooms but this £12.95 would apply to each lesson even if you Tutored the student for 2 years. Google Meets is £5 a month for workplace premium, so why do Tutorful charge £12.95 a lesson to use the platform? It almost feels like we are employed by Tutorful but without any of the perks (pension, holidays) to cancel a lesson you have to give reasoning (ill, holiday, schedule change). It is none of Tutorfuls business why a student wants to cancel or why I need to cancel a lesson as we are not employed by Tutorful, it is within the tutors remit how and when they provide lessons. Additionally, Tutorful really want tutors to enforce cancellation fees to the tune of at least 50% of the lesson which again I don't agree with, things happen, people get ill and schedules change. At the moment with the cost of living the last thing people need is to be paying for a lesson they haven't received and lining Tutorfuls pocket. They also monitor communications on platform like a fascist superpower, so be careful not to upset them!
Jessica Hogg: I've been struggling with maths for a while now and Annelia has really helped me pass. The software used is really clear. She was great at explaining things when I got stuck and she was lovely.
Annie Peters: I like using this website to tutor, however I find that their commission rates have gone up a lot compared to before. So if you charge 28 an hour you get 18 an hour roughly. It's a shame because it is now more expensive for the student and more expensive for the tutor.
Guilherme Dornelas: Changing my review to 1 star because they say they don't take any of your earnings except a small fee on top of your rate, but off a £37 hourly rate you only get to keep £24.05. That's an extremely high commission of OVER A THIRD of your hourly rate that they pocket while advertising they add only a small fee to your rate. This is obviously UNTRUE AS THEY KEEP 35% and force you to advertise it as your own rate if you need to put £54 to receive £35.The scoring system doesn't work and the customer support is extremely unhelpful and slow, often waiting days just to link you a FAQ article you've already read a thousand times since you waited an entire week for response.
S L: I was heavily used Tutorful since 2019 for my son during covid lock down, had lessons 3-4 times a week with English, maths, music, instruments etc until present, as their price increased, I had to cut down the lessons to once every two weeks, or I may consider to stop to use Tutorful.Tutors from Tutorful are various, it's hard to find one suitable for my son and it can take a long time....
Laura Samayoa Mendoza: I have used tutorful for 5 years now. After the coming exams I wont be using it anymore. They increased their prices with very little notice and the fees for sutdents are just too high now.For example, for one hour lesson I get 20 pounds and they get 8 pounds. That is 40% of the price I charged.Their serviced quality has decreased a lot recently as well. You can call them now, so if you have any issue you have to send them an email. They take days to reply at which point you probably sorted the problem anyway.
Aurora Urovi: I signed up to Tutorful because I was looking for a tutor who could help me with Economics and English at degree level, and I am incredibly disappointed by the service. The tutors are fairly expensive (charging upwards of £50 per lesson, most often between £80 and £110 per hour) and I would justify the price based on the service that they provide, but they can't even reply to my messages. I reached out to at least three different ones and I have had to wait days for a reply, often messaging them again to check that they had received the initial message. The availability that they state on their profile is also not accurate. If that wasn't enough, the website is also glitchy and would sometimes not work because of too many redirects. It's absolutely ridiculous and so frustrating. I am sorry to say that my opinion of Tutorful, initially positive, has now significantly lowered.
peter turnball: A disgraceful price hike from Tutorful recently has made tutors like me very angry. The new rise is about 15% for current students, and over 20% for new students. 100% of this extra revenue will go straight to Tutorful, while tutors won't receive a penny, and will be left worse off because in practice is impossible for a tutor to raise fees after such a huge rise has been imposed by Tutorful. To add insult to injury, Tutorful are responding to messages from worried tutors with complete silence.Disgraceful behaviour from Tutorful.
Myles Mclean: Highest service fee and commission in the industry!
Jenna Doidge: I started working through Tutorful in 2018 - for more than 3 years they deducted 25% of my hourly rate under the title of a “platform fee”. Once I had taught 250 hours, this reduced to 20%.The “service fee” they now talk about includes 20% of my hourly rate plus an extra £4-£7 on top of that (paid for by the student should they choose to accept the increase and depending on if they are an existing or new student).New students will pay £37 (whereas they would have previously paid £30) an hour for my services and I will receive £24.05 in Tutorful’s change to Terms & Conditions. I’ve been tutoring with them a long time and have always accepted that they take a cut as a I have found a lot of new students through them. Very unhappy with this change to say the least.
Jon Goga: It’s a real shame I'm having to write this review as a one-star, as up until the past six months I have been one of Tutorful’s biggest cheerleaders, and have taught on their website for several years. But things really seem to have taken a wrong turn. This isn’t just because of the price increases announced yesterday of an extra 20% taken from STUDENTS - which is impossible to justify in my mind, as they still seem to be taking 20% from us too as tutors, which means they’re essentially double dipping and trying to 2x their income from us no matter how they spin it, during one of the worst cost of living crises in living memory. It’s also because of:- Transitioning their customer support to not include phone lines which means I can’t get ready support, especially on weekends- Constantly glitching lesson whiteboard, with issues I’ve reported many times over the past couple of years never being solved; this mainly includes pdf’s not viewing properly, loss of signal, webcam issues when no other software is having them on the same cam- The abrupt cancellation of the Classes program, which meant all of my websites and socials had to be changed as the SEO and links all led to Tutorful, and all my students informed, some discovering it in the middle of a Class- Constantly experimenting on our profiles without consulting us or consent from ourselves, including the recent price increaseOverall, a very dismal performance from them. If they start to turn this around, I will happily make this a better review.
Andrew KENNEDY: Tutorful are pretty much the market leaders in tuition. Indeed, their ability to provide leads to tutors is first class. They are modern in their approach. However, there are several flaws within this approach, namely inexperience of some of their employees in dealing with disputes, there's a self-righteous feel to some of the communication you get back as a tutor. As a parent I wouldn't advise against using Tutorful - they assess tutor suitability correctly -, but be prepared to pay for it as their prices are rising!
Andy Pearson: We had a really good tutor, but have sadly had to cancel our weekly ongoing lessons for my son approaching GCSE’s as Tutorful put their prices up by almost 14%. For an intermediary platform this seems an excessive increase? I am not sure any of this price increase was being passed on to the Tutors who deliver the service you provide?
Lucy Jones: I found a great maths tutor on Tutorful who helped my son and daughter get into the secondary school we wanted for them. My children don't enjoy maths, but he made the lessons fun and improved their maths hugely. Happy customer!
Jason Burford: We found out the tutor we had booked was a con artist so tried to cancel the lesson but still got charged!!
Catherine Eaglestone: Worst tutoring company ever! I recommend Firsttutors instead.

Spanish Tuition Sheffield: what do users think?
Tom Nadin: I started with the beginners course with no previous experience of speaking Spanish (other than a vague attempt on holiday!) and Victoria pitched the teaching at the correct level. She uses a good combination of listening, speaking, reading and watching (some short videos in spanish) to help you pick up simple language used in everyday conversation.I signed up simply to be able to try and learn another language so I could speak a bit more on holiday.I have really enjoyed the beginners course and now feel I understand a lot and can speak a enough to describe who I am, where I'm from, where I live, what I like/ don't like. It was an easy decision to carry on to the advanced beginners course (which many other students have done too) and it's been equally as good! I'd thoroughly recommend Victoria's courses for her excellent teaching methods. The course materials online are also very useful and I have enjoyed relistening to the classes in my walk to work/ on the train!
Holly Williams: Victoria es maestra muy bien! Spanish lessons with her are fun and engaging, and she does a brilliant job of creating a safe and relaxed environment in which to make mistakes and ask questions, to listen and to learn. Muchos gracias!
Ellen Liz: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueVictoria is a great teacher! Her personable nature puts you at ease and you quickly forget how fast the time flies by in her lessons. Her style of teaching is easy to follow and she ensures everyone is following along together. I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in learning Spanish, especially beginners.
Lucy Evans: Victoria is a fantastic teacher. She adapts her lessons to the needs of the student, she is encouraging and engaging. I worried that I would feel embarrassed speaking Spanish to a stranger but Victoria instantly put me at ease. She is very encouraging and I always finish a class feeling positive about my Spanish. I have grown in confidence and my grammar and vocabulary have flourished too. Victoria has lots of ideas to make learning Spanish fun, with videos, film discussions, semi-structured discussions on a pre-agreed topic etc. I would highly recommend Spanish with Victoria.
Sarah Harvey: Dedicated, friendly and very motivating Spanish Tuition - Victoria will help you meet your goals and discover new ones you hadn't realised you had!
Colleen Gray: I first met Victoria when I was looking for some tuition to improve my conversational Spanish. Topics were agreed beforehand and materials provided, if necessary. Feedback was always given afterwards. She is VERY encouraging which certainly helps one’s confidence. She has now established a Spanish Club which is particularly aimed at intermediate learners. I have joined a group which meets every week (via Zoom). We discuss topical events in the Spanish speaking world, films and literature, as well as have more general conversations. She also hosts a Facebook page where she has interviews with native Spanish speakers, grammar tips and explanations of Spanish idioms. (I love these!) In my experience, it is quite difficult to find language classes beyond beginners so the services Victoria provides are perfect for anyone wanting to move on in their Spanish language journey. Highly recommended.
