Sheffield Karate Club: what do users think?

paul jones: I first saw Sensai Dave Shaw roughly back in 2016/17 at a seminar located at horbury in wakefield along with other good martial artists from other clubs. During my time and studies under peter consterdine, i unexpectedly met dave on a training day as part of our course with peter consterdine and we got on pretty well during the practical training and became friends. Dave have a good reputation with his teachings with adutls and children and he has my full support.

Sarah Harding: My 5 year daughter has been going to Daves classes for quite a while now and has always throughly enjoyed it, and considering the current restrictions etc, Dave has gone the extra mile to make sure the kids can still train safely and enjoyably. I would definitely recommend.

William Salt: We started taking our Daughter to little Ninjas this year and she loves it. It has helped her build confidence and we seen her coordination and balance improve dramatically in just a few weeks. Dave is great with the kids and is very knowledgable. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to take up a martial art to consider Sheffield Karate Club

Kirsty Handzel: My little boy has been really happy in this club. The Sensei gives structure to lessons, keeping their concentration and building their confidence, whilst attaining personal goals. All this is made fun.Excellent club ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Emma Fitzgerald: My 5 year old son has only been going a couple of weeks to little Ninjas and he is really enjoying Dave’s classes. So far so good!

Jane Robertson: Excellent club, a great confidence booster. Very highly recommended 👍👍
Jules Houghton: Our son has just started at this club after his previous club closed. We’ve been so impressed with the welcome and support he’s received from Sensei Dave and other club members.
Louise Smith: My son has been going for about 6 weeks now after previously attending another club.I'm really impressed with the classes and quality of coaching.Nothing is too much trouble. Questions are answered straight away.Club fees are really reasonable and so is the cost of equipment. My son has really settled in and is enjoying it.
Kirsty Handzel: My little boy has been really happy in this club. The Sensei gives structure to lessons, keeping their concentration and building their confidence, whilst attaining personal goals. All this is made fun.Excellent club ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Natalie Barker: Dave has always gone above and beyond, especially during lockdown. Dave made sure everyone stayed connected despite some very difficult challenges. He's fantastic with the little ones and is very passionate. I would definitely recommend this club. 👌
Adrian Zajac: Great karate club!!.
Rosie Dawson: My little boy started at Daves 'little ninja' class earlier on this year and loves it. His confidence has really improved as well as his coordination and listening skills. Dave is very knowledgeable, he is firm when needed but most of all, he makes the classes fun (which I think is so important at 4-7 years old). Thanks Dave!
Paul Treweek: An excellent, friendly club which teaches traditional karate with modern, realistic applications.
Davey 2112: Can not rate this karate club highly enough. They have given my nephew an immense amount of confidence over the last 3 years. He looks forward to each session and gains so much from the club. Give them a try you won't be disappointed.

Sheffield Dojo Tao Noy Sing Karate Club: what do users think?

Jorja Gill: My son has been going here for 6 years now. It’s is a friendly fantastic Dojo with a family atmosphere. The Sensei’s are well informed, compassionate and amazing with the kids and adults alike. They have a great ethos of fun and discipline to get the best out of their students. Wouldn’t send my son anywhere else!

Steve B: An excellent and friendly club. My son and I attend regularly. Mike and the other Senseis provide clear, patient and enjoyable instruction for all ages and grades. There’s a lot of variety beyond katas, punches and kicks, with stick work and ground work too. In addition there are training videos on everything we study to help practice at home. This is a really supportive club with a great atmosphere and it’s a brilliant way to learn a martial art, self-defence and keep fit.

Christina Besford: This is a fantastic karate club. Really friendly and the teachers are great with kids too. My daughter has been going for 6 years and loves it. The teachers are really supportive and encouraging.

Carl Jessop: Our little one absolutely loves this club, the instructors are really friendly and patient. What I also like as a parent is that the participants are helped to progress, they are not made to wait too long for a grading. Highly recommend 👌

Lindsey Mangle: My son has been going here for two years now and his overall confidence, fitness and skill have all come along brilliantly. He loves attending every week. Great club!

David Irvine: A fine, friendly and supportive karate school.Ethan has attended without any experience of karate at all and studying for his black belt now !!!

roadrunner9115: Excellent friendly place to train with Sensei Mike Hall. I attended a dedicated class here and throughly enjoyed it also I learned a lot as well.

Castle Martial Arts: what do users think?

Jamie Allender: This is our 5 year old Grace at the start of her amazing 4 year journey that has took her from a 6 week school activity getting her first belt to her black belt and now just 1 year away from her 2nd degree black belt. Hard to believe that she is now sparing and ground fighting with children of all ages and adults when as a toddler she would have seizures and stop breathing when she felt pain. And who knows what will happen in the year leading towards her next black belt, passing her assistant trainer course or even maybe a place on the demo team, one thing she desperately wants to achieve 🤞. We are so proud of Grace in all she has done while at castle martial arts and we cannot thank her teachers enough that have helped her over the years. I would recommended Castle to anyone wanting to take up martial arts and they always take time with each student getting the best out of their students.

Joanna Kenton: Our soon who is 4 has been attending castle martial arts now for over a year. The teachers there have been fantastic always spending the time to get to know the individual children and encouraging them to reach their full potential. He absolutely loves going every week and has made some amazing progress just recently. His confidence has come on leaps and bounds since starting martial arts and I can’t recommend them enough.

Gemma Sharpe-Buckley: The team at Castle were brilliant when attending and teaching an adhoc Beaver session. All the kids and leaders found the experience fun and interesting! Thank you !

Ihab Hanoon: Great place, wonderful instructors ,awesome people my son absolutely enjoys being there

Jade Teasdale: My son has been at castle Martel arts nearly a year and half and he has loves it. When he first started he had no confidence he wouldn’t even go on to the mats but now his confidence and grown so much at home and at school and martial arts has played a big part in him gaining his confidence. The staff always listen when I have something to say and always try there best to help however they can. I have no faults to say my son absolutely loves going. I would definitely recommend! 😁

Samantha Smyth: Fantastic martial arts academy. Kind, caring instructors, teaching not just martial arts but key life skills that are absolutely priceless!! If your thinking about castle, take a leap of faith. You won’t be disappointed with your investment 👌👍 My eldest daughter stepped onto the floor 5 years ago for the first time, she has been in love with training ever since. We have seen huge changes with her focus and determination!! My youngest daughter started 2 years ago and has made so many new friends and has grown in confidence and discipline!! We are noticing huge changes at home and school and can’t thank Castle and it’s awesome team of instructor enough.

Elysia Kelland: If I could give higher than 5 stars I would. I have been training here for almost 20 years now and have seen how this school has helped so many different people with their fitness, confidence, discipline and so much more. There is a huge focus on working towards goals as a team and we are like one big family. I hope to be training here still in another 20 years time
Brendan Wragg: I have trained here at Castle Black belt Academy since March 2008, I arrived with my Family.its been a truly remarkable experience. All of us hold the same view. We learned some of the best Martial Arts, my children are all confidant happy and set for adult life with what ever challenges they may face, i know they will be able thrive and grow. It has been a pleasure to see how they have developed over the years BIG BIG THank you.12 years later. Still goingThat says it all
Vicky Oscroft: Fantastic martial arts school with brilliant instructors, my son loves training here.
Andrea Juhasz: Best martial arts school in Sheffield with a family emphasis. Great for building confidence, resilience and instilling values for life.
fff l456: It's a scam you have to pay so much money for just 30 minutes of training I've been going there for a year and I barely saw any improvements you cant really learn that much just 30 minutes twice a week.

I cannot thank Castle enough for what they have done for my boys!

Salmah Hussain: Castle Martial Arts is a rip off and a sales based organisation. They apply many selling tactics to get you to part with your money. I called them to find out about karate lessons and the prices. They said they had 'bundles' and I had to come and choose one. That's not true. There weren't any bundles just beginner, intermediate and advanced for the same thing. I tried to make an appointment to come and try it out with them and they gave one to me that was a month away claiming that they were super busy and couldn't give me an earlier appointment. When I went there, a whole month later, their game started. They asked me to come before the lesson started and we saw a boy doing amazing tricks with a plastic sword and it impressed us. Then, just before the lesson began, we were taken outside of the room for a 'chat' which ended up being a sales pitch. They wanted me to tell them why I wanted to do karate (I said I wanted to be fit, de-stress and have fun) and then, the sales pitch was arranged on what I had said. Then, I was also given a 100 pound discount that was apparently only available in that month. The person also did 10 minutes of training with me in which they put a great emphasis on how fun it was and how relaxing and healthy it was (targeting your needs). It was all lovely and rosy, the person was very friendly and we had a great chat- then I asked about the fees and times. Each session is 30 minutes and they charge 699 pounds for training up until a yellow belt.I didn't like the 30 minute sessions times (I've done martial arts in other places with much longer sessions and cheaper prices plus 30 minutes is basically the amount of time it takes to do a proper warm up). The person's explanation for this was that 'doing things in short bursts of time makes it stick in your memory' but I don't see how that would work. To improve at any sport requires as much time as possible spent practising. 30 minutes session times is ridiculous, many other places offer sessions between 50-90 minutes. Then I challenged the person on the prices as I thought they were far too expensive, especially as the sessions were so short. The person was clearly unhappy about this question and tried to clear the other people that were in the room out so they wouldn't hear our conversation. They said that they do 'more' than other places as they teach a mixture of martial arts and self defence. How much self defence and martial arts can you learn in 30 minutes anyway??? Personally, I found this excuse pathetic. The person wanted me to sign the contract and pay the 99 pound deposit there and then. I nearly did (which would have been a terrible mistake) but then I decided I wanted more time to think on it, especially because the martial arts classes I used to got to were much cheaper and the sessions were way longer. The yearly insurance was 30 pounds along with 5 pounds per session which sums to 20 pounds a month. While castle martial arts asked me to pay 100 pounds per month for five months with a 99 pound deposit which makes it 25 pound a session. It's ridiculous. When I got home I phoned up another martial arts centre near me and asked them their prices and they told me straight away that I would pay 24 pounds of insurance and 26 pounds a month for one hour weekly sessions. That is much more reasonable and cheap than Castle Martial Arts.Be careful about the information you give them. They always try to relate to you and your situation. Don't let them lure you into paying ridiculously high prices that aren't even worth the time that each session lasts. After I left I pondered on the whole situation and I felt so shocked that people could try and trick people out of their money in such a way. Most importantly, there were only around 4 people in the class that day and one of them was the instructor's son. So they weren't really as busy as they claimed to be. So why did I have to wait so long for an appointment in the first place then?I would give 0 stars to this place if I could. 1 star is being generous.
Akos Surin: It is a fantastic martial arts academy where you are always made to feel welcome.Starting martial arts has helped me gain so much confidence in myself, not only my ability to defend myself but also in day to day life. Everyone is so friendly and supportive, it's like a second home to me with greatest martial arts instructors one could possibly have.I would recommend to everyone wanting more confidence, fitness, happiness or social circle.
Liam Pearson: Really great place to learn. friendly instructors and really friendly people they make you feel welcome and a part of a family one of the best decisions I made going to castle martal arts would highly recommend

British Martial Arts Academy: what do users think?
Jo Goodchild: My grandson is 6 and is a very shy boy. He started at the academy a week ago and absolutely loves it. The staff are very friendly and very experienced in teaching martial arts. It is very reasonably priced. We did try some other places first but the British Martial Arts Academy gives a more personal experience with all students getting equal amounts of imput rather than concentrating on the more "promising students". I can't recommend them high enough. Give them a go. They are offering free lessons at the moment.
Brian Beck: It’s a Fantastic place to train , instructors are very very experienced in many styles of martial arts and know how to teach and get the best out of your training, they will teach you how to be safe in this crazy society
Blackhills Airsoft: I train with this academy and cannot recommend it highly enough. In an ever increasing violent society it is good to know that I can defend myself against most types of attack.British martial arts academy teaches me to respect myself and those around me and that fighting is the absolute last resort BUT if I am faced with a situation where someone wants to do me harm I am now equipped to save myself in the quickest time possible.Master Becks classes are hard going and you will get bruises ..... but you will also lose weight, tone up, be the fittest you have every been and have confidence in your abilities to not only defend yourself but others around you from the increasing threat of today's society.

Hayley Seward: I've been training at Excel for a number of years now and I can honestly say it has changed my life, I've learned so much about how to be healthier in both my mind and body.I was quite ill about 7 years ago and was told that the chances of me being able to be as active as I am now we're very slim, through the coaching I've had at Excel, the changes I've made in my lifestyle and approach to my wellbeing, I'm healthier and happier than I was before.I've also made loads of new friends and gained my confidence back
Jane Freeman: I can’t recommend Excel enough - the coaches are so supportive and encourage all the students to do their best. There is a true community at Excel and everyone is treated equally. If you are in doubt - believe me, give it a try!

Our son started at their ministrike class last year and we have both since joined adult classes. The classes are varied, always different and something new to learn. The instructors are friendly and encouraging, as well as appropriately challenging. The environment is lovely with a great vibe. I have never enjoyed exercise more! After seeing their success, I have joined the ladies kick-boxing class, and never looked back since. I have tried many things, but I am not a gym person.
