Hotel Novotel Sheffield Centre: what do users think?

Editor Maisie: Very good experience, staff are good, breakfast are great and the room service pizza we got was so yummy and creamy. Love the pool also. The parking was a bit annoying as they don’t automatically open the gates and was never told how to get out or how to access swimming pool / gym / changing rooms. But you need to just ask reception for a code and a new card for amenities. Sainsbury’s just next door so easy to quickly pop and get food too. Also beds are quite uncomfortable and hard, but getting the room cleaned when you are out is good quick and well done. :)
Daniel Ragan: It's more like a 2.5-star passable hotel rather than the "luxurious 4-star hotel" that they describe on their website...The lobby and bar are fairly nice and chique, but as soon as you get onto the dated and cramped lifts, any sort of semblance to "luxury" promptly ends. The room was spacious, but dingy with carpet ripped and pulling up in multiple areas. The room was constantly warm and the aircon was nonworking or nonexistent with a thermostat from my grandmother's house. The shower floor had a big crack in it that water was either leaking through or around the shower and creating a small pool on the carpet (don't want to even think about how much mold could be in there). Worst of all, the toilet would only flush about 50% of its contents - if you were lucky. Toilet paper would just float at the top despite any number of flushes we attempted. Just gross and disappointing. The staff were...distant, cold, and not helpful. It seemed as though they all either just finished training or didn't get trained at all. Upon check in, the person at the desk had to get help from two other people. Eventually, the three of them figured out how to give us a room number and card. I requested a laundry bag and, after going through (again) multiple people, I finally got one.The customer service was nonexistent. We had a bit of a mixup with our booking, and the receptionist seemed like they could not care less. Not even a "sorry to hear about that." Not a single smile or "welcome" - with the exception of a very warm and cheerful housekeeper.Overall, we were quite disappointed that we didn't receive anything close to the "luxurious" hotel we were advertised.Rooms: Dingy, no air con, shower leaks in the carpeted floor
Dolo Rodríguez López: The hotel was good. The swimming pool and the leisure area are fantastic. The swimming pool was full of children so avoid if you try to relax. The temperature of the swimming pool area was really warm, the area was also clean. The hotel is clean, centric and with an easy access by car and train. I would recommend it.

North London: There was overnight parking at the hotel for £15. The reception looks nice and Morden. Rooms were a basic with chip wallpaper everywhere. Breakfast was good but the cups weren't washed well enough. No Aircon and my room was too hot. There was a small pool for use but any more than 4 people would be too much. Small dark windows.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Liv Godley: My close friend and I spent almost 200 pounds on booking this hotel. We read through the policies and procedures when booking and were under the impression it would be a pleasant stay. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were informed that we needed ID. Unfortunately, only one of us had ID with us. We had no intention of drinking and simply checked into the room for somewhere to stay until the trains next day. We are both 20 years of age and have stayed at multiple hotels without facing any issues or rude management. We were denied access to stay and instead ended up having no choice but to roam the streets late at night. As two young females, I am absolutely disgusted about this and how poorly we were treated. Thank God nothing happened to us.
Aria Christian: Good view and food
Mr JG: Ms George on front desk demonstrated fine customer relations in being utterly polite, smiling, helping and cool under pressure i.e. even when queues form, she advises guests that she will be with them as soon as she finishes with the guest at hand etc. A very nice lady. Can Marie Green (General Manager) please convey my thanks.Leisure facilities were awful. Steam room didn’t work even after waiting the 15 mins after pressing the button. No shower gel in the men’s changing (hotel said they don’t supply it – the toilet hand wash wasn’t replenished until we requested).Toaster wasn’t working during breakfast (catering staff were brilliant nonetheless).Regards, Jag GognaNearby activities: Crucible for the snooker
Casa77 Setenta y siete: Great location, but pricy though. Price has gone up for next year, not booked again.
Patricia Hobson: Had afternoon tea here for my birthday is was so fresh and tasty . Served by delightful staff.Walkability: Easy to get about and very handy for snooker and theatres .Food & drinks: Gorgeous afternoon tea .

Tony Charrington: I always choose Novotel as a first choice hotel, however, this one is definitely one people should avoid.I booked an executive room but I did not expect to see how broken and outdated everything is - bedside tables broken, bath plug broken, sink has an odour and plug sockets not working.Staff are also untrained and unprofessional, providing me with the wrong parking information and costing me more. They refused to help me and blamed Qpark, even though Novotel staff gave me the wrong information. There are much better hotels in Sheffield that have the cleanliness, professionalism and convenience. Sad to say that this Novotel is one you should avoid.
Apeksha Jain: Rooms are not very great but the hotel ambience is good. The service is brilliant. Loved the swimming and steam room time here.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Ernesto Salas: Good location, nice bar and very useful gym

Julie Ashley: Good situation breakfast ladies Diane and Sami worked so hard and were lovely.Comfy bed and pillows, woken during the night by someone searching through the bins!Clean and tidy rooms

J P: Always better than travelodge for a nice room, good sleep and quality location. Parking is £11 at the nearby NCP if you validate your ticket at the front desk machine. Small improvement would be a smaller portion of cooked breakfast (wasn’t a buffet), as 2 of everything meant we wasted a bit of food which wouldn’t have happened at a buffet.
Andy Paton: Does what it says on the tin.Clean, comfortable rooms, great all you can eat breakfast helpful staff good central location within walking distance of all city centre attractions at a great price. When next in Sheffield won't be looking anywhere else to stay but here.

Claire Swain: The location is brilliant and parking is near by. The staff are very helpful, friendly and caring. The room is nice, it has everything you need for a few nights.Breakfast is good. A wide range of food available.I use a lightweight foldable mobility scooter and it just fits in the lift. I believe a wheel chair would be fine but I am not sure if a standard mobility scooter would manage. Our room was so cold. We switched the heating system on and followed the instructions but it just blew out cold air. When we went for our evening meal in the hotel's restaurant it was also cold in there. I didn't like that at all.Nearby activities: The National Video Game museum

Casa77 Setenta y siete: Ridiculous prices. Has gone 200% up in recent years.
James Bates: Friendly staff a little bit quirky reminded me of Fawlty towers for a moment possibly cause I was in holiday mode.No bad thing.Very good spacious rooms clean bathroom and bedroom. Quite sufficient sofa bed decent sturdy mattress not a home fold out as we had guessed.Good options at breakfast buffet all can eat, could do with a few alterations.Fresher cakes and rolls. Pour over yoghurt for people who like lots of plain yoghurt with cereal and fruit. The self service toaster was awful and slow. The car park that was suggested was a bit to long of a walk, best to check Google maps before you arrive, although there was a very good discounted parking offer through premier Inn
Ann Jones: We have stayed in this hotel for the last few years when we've been to the Snooker We find its a great location . Bedrooms etc are excellent. Breakfasts are really good . Definitely recommendRooms: Clean / good size / comfortable

easyHotel Sheffield City Centre: what do users think?

Adam: When I was waiting for my taxi in the morning, after checking out, on the pavement there was a male pigeon engaged in his courtship ritual toward a nice lady pigeon. Unfortunately despite his best efforts, puffing out his chest magnificently and dragging his fanned-wide tail about on the floor, she spurned his advances and wandered off to continue foraging for breakfast. I stayed at this hotel in a last-minute booking after I moved house and was unexpectedly unable to book transport until the next day. The room was small and without windows but that was what I expected, both from the price and the fact that it was described as such on the website when I was booking. The front desk staff were helpful and very accommodating to the fact that I arrived very late and checked out very early.

Bethany Leadley: Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a night away in November 2021. It was a great little hotel. The room was basic but had everything you needed (a bed and a bathroom). I wouldn’t want to stay here for more than a couple of nights, but for a short stay it’s a great choice. We only paid around £30 for one night which I thought was really reasonable.

Diana Capurina: Nice hotel in city centre, very clean and tidy room, great service. Nice place to stay over night or two, but would recommend to add at least tea or coffee table, as not really convenient to keep all the necassary things in the bag or on the floor. Also I would add few hooks as after shower there is no place where to keep the towel especially if you want to reuse it in the morning.

James Morphet: You get what you pay for. Very clean and tidy though. Staff nice too. Everything you need for a cheap sleep. Low price attracts groups of drunk lads who are full of life when you want a rest. Can be a bit noisy in the corridors at night. We were all young once though….

Ulka Chandini Pendit: The hotel has good location and service. It is close to KFC, Subway, and other supermarkets. However, there is no kettle, coffee or tea in the room as they provide it in the reception with the coffee&tea machine with £2. Plus they have really good front desk. Phil was very helpful, kind and friendly. I came at 12 pm night to ask for the Briyani rice that my friend put in the reception and he also offered and explained me about the hotel which is very kind of him. Not only him, Symone is also very kind and always smile. She is lent me iron with iron board and always answered my question with smile and warm vibe. I am very satisfied with Phil and Symone's service.Safety: Couple times I accidentally realized I didn't close my door properly but hamdulillah nothing happened and the hotel is very safe.Walkability: Very close to city center.

andrew sass: Smallest hotel room ever
Kristaps Bumburs: Definitely the cheapest hotel around but not acceptable standard for anyone. Walls and ceilings were stained with paint or nail varnish, floors were extremely dirty, bedsheets were covered in some hair and sand, the extra towels given in reception didn’t smell fresh at all. Generally felt very unpleasant and wanted to leave.
Matthew Sillitoe: We arrived at 1:30pm and was told the room was ready but we would have to pay £10 early check in or wait till 3pm which we found ridiculous. If the rooms ready why charge £10 extra, if it was in the morning I could understand an early check in fee but not 90 mins before when the room is ready. The rooms are basic but are good value if you only want a few nights. I wouldn’t stay in a room this small without a window for longer than 2-3 nights. The guest experience on arrival could have been better. Excellent location in the city centre.
Sherree Gilbert: Cheap and cleanRooms: CleanNearby activities: Close to everythingSafety: Has night time security
Elizabeth nunez del prado: Modern, Great service, I did not like the pillows, too hard

DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield Park: what do users think?

David: Excellent stay at this well positioned hotel within easy reach of the Peak District. The staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble in their aim to ensure you have a great time. Breakfast had a really good selection and evening dinner was equally of a high standard with service from the staff second to none! A big thanks to Rebecca and Will on reception who really go the extra mile with such amazing customer focus not normally experienced these days. We will definitely be back soon to enjoy this hotel once again with the help of its first class staff!

Julien Bernard Jean-Denis: Great location for a nice weekend in the Peak District. Everything was alright with the room except that the door of the fridge cabinet was found broken. The access to the swimming pool is no longer free for the adult guests: GBP 5.00 per adult per hour (you now need to book in advance) - kids go free. The quality of the food at the restaurant is fabulous, but the overall experience was a little bit diminished because of the presence of numerous flies in the dining room - not sure if this is a seasonal phenomenon or whether this is due to high temperatures of this summer).

Rob Forbes: We stay in one of the newer room which was nice and clean. The hotel is spacious with lots of parking. Located outside of Sheffield, so was quiet. Barbara Smith: I was very fortunate to win an afternoon tea in the Marco Pierre White restaurant at the Double Tree by Hilton in Sheffield for King Charles 3 Coronation. We arrived for our allotted time and was met by the lovely Rebecca. She showed us to our table and took our drink order. We were served our afternoon tea which was very nice with a selection of sandwiches, scones, jam and cream. A selection of lovely cakes(which we had to take home) and macaroons, all washed down with a glass of Prosecco. Also on the table were Coronation decorations and a beautiful keepsake cloth napkin embroidered with the Coronation logo. A wonderful keepsake for such a special occasion. The whole event was wonderful and my Hubby and I enjoyed it immensely.Thankyou so much and special thanks to Rebecca for looking after us so well. The food was delicious and really good portions. I was pleased they did kids meals. The pool was lovely and warm , the time we went at 5pm was really busy but still very enjoyable, only downside was the shower rooms/changing room was too small. illremember thistime: My in-laws stayed here for a quick visit and had a bad experience. They got in late due to cancelled trains and despite letting the hotel know in advance had to wait a good 10 minutes before anybody showed up.They booked a room with a queen bed and were given a double in a room with non functioning heating, which they failed to fix.At least they were moved to a new room, which was fine.To top it all off they were charged an extra £200 with no explanation (only realized after they got the credit card bill)Edit:Looks like they refunded the money
Ian Rockett: Had afternoon tea at Marco Pierre White restaurant was very very lovely. Would recommend. Very clean and staff lovely.

Terrible thing Management controls the room temperature from the front desk!!! They say they don't but they were asking us "what temperature do you want" and it would change on wall gage . Well as you know it varies - we wanted control. We were SO uncomfortable and miserable ALL night, just exhausted from not being in control, too hot, too cold, NO fan we like the sound. Terrible policy to save money and lie about it. Shame on them.Breakfast was standard for a Double Tree, nice, breakfast staff was friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable and shower was nice but I'm so disappointed.

JO Syms: Stayed for 3 nights in 2 separate trips during the 2023 snooker fortnight.Rooms - Odd numbered rooms face onto the noisy tram line and traffic noise. As the double glazed window wasn't good at keeping out the noise I changed for an even number room which was much quieter but the view out of the window is of just a large brick wall.Room lighting - rather dim , not much natural light due to the wall outside and the actual room lights are at best adequate.Shower was nice with good water pressure.Breakfast - Good , Cooked Food (I had hash brown, bacon and sausage) was hot. Orange Juice was a bit watery.Location - is right next to a good, secure car park which you can get a 50% discount code off the Travelodge website. N.B Car Park has to be paid for via the Car Park operators website before you arrive.Hotel is close to a noisy pub (Norfolk Arms), Most direct route to Crucible theatre / City Centre shops is up a 200m road (Dixon Lane) with disused shops. Dixon Lane is lit ok but is a bit daunting at night as the area has a few dodgy looking people wandering around!Overall decent value for money and would stay again

Ridiculous as we now have to drive the hour and a half back journey we made to get there first, as well as not knowing whether we'll even get our money back.
SHARNA NELSON: Room was OK. One light not working. No sockets near bed. Shower was amazingly hot. There was a bath too. Usual kettle tea coffee etc. Staff were really nice and helpful. Location was OK. Slightly noisy with the road but it does warn you before you book so expected.Walkability: 10min walk from Sheffield Station. Not ok with a todler and cases. Roman Filipowicz: Stayed here whilst visiting Sheffield for the snooker and was pretty impressed. Good location for the things we wanted to visit (the Crucible and Kelham Island). Big, comfortable beds in the twin rooms which themselves were decent-sized and clean. Powerful shower and nice breakfast included. Only minor blip was the shower didn't drain very quickly so I had to stop it a couple of times or the water would've run out of the shower tray. Very minor blip - apart from that, all good!
Frazer Goddon: A short walk from the centre of Sheffield. The room here was a good size and very clean. The TV could have been on the wall though that would be nit picking. I used the in-house gym and it was well equipped for a small group. The shower was hot and powerful. The complimentry breakfast was really good and really set my family and I up for the day.My only complaint would be the mattress was a little firm though that is standard for most hotels, I've come to find.
rita james: It was okay in general, I wish the rooms were cleaned. BetterNearby activities: It’s right in the centreSafety: You had to use your key everywhere

Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa: what do users think?
Andrew Hobson: Love this hotel. We had the after event party from the World Snooker Championship. Well worth a visit if you are looking for a hotel in Sheffield.Hotel highlights Luxury, Kid-friendly, Great value …More
Olanzy Tone: A nice place
Nixi V: Staff were friendly & helpful. The room was spacious & the bed very comfortable. We were given the overnight stay with spa access as a gift, so overall experience was lovely but the treatments were all booked & this wasn't detailed on the voucher, as we would have prebooked, so we only used the basic facilities, which were pleasant but not overwhelming & clearer signage would've been good. The breakfast was delicious & lots of choice, although the machine coffee was disappointing. The biggest let down was the evening meal. The food had flavour but appeared to be from the freezer & the chips were undercooked.
Kevin Basnett: Beautiful hotel.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Zoe Yeates: A really lovely hotel, great bar & spacious rooms very clean too. Buffet style breakfast very tasty and plenty of it. The staff are helpful and we will definitely be going back at some point 👍🏼Rooms: Very spacious and clean
Ana-maria Croke: It really is such a great shame that this hotel has the most dated rooms. The bed linens are worn, the protectors are too small for the beds, the bathrooms are clean but shocking for the calibre of this hotel. Room service is awful and doesn't operate after 9pm. TV in my room too small for the room and if you wanted to change channel you had to get up to do so as the control didn't have the capability to cope with the distance. The hotel is in desperate need of a refurb. I have stayed twice and I absolutely will not stay again guests deserve better and so do the staff, they are all delightful and helpful but they should have somewhere better to work..
David Helliwell: As good as always. Love this hotel. Made to feel very welcome. Food is excellent. Just wanted a sandwich in the afternoon but had finished doing sandwiches. Made us a wonderful sandwich in any case.Rooms: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Amanda Stephenson: Excellent stay. In the heart of the city centre so close to pubs, restaurants and theatresAlso car parking is very close by but equally it is not too far to the train station eitherNearby activities: Pubs theatres shops restaurantsWalkability: Centre of the city
Linzi Haughton: We have been looking forward to this trip away since Xmas. First night away from the kids in months and we were bitterly disappointed!!I applied for an upgrade and the room we wanted wasn't available so I called the hotel a week before to see what my options were. The guy I spoke to said we had been placed in a privilege room which had a bigger bed and soft drinks. I asked the cost of this and he said we had been upgraded for free. When we arrived not only was our room not ready at 3pm but we were told there was an extra charge. I asked why and was told because of the upgrade. I explained the situation and the receptionist basically shrugged her shoulders and asked if we would like to have our original room (no upgrade). When we finally got in the room we had no welcome letter, no menu,no do not not disturb sign (as stated on the wall) .Spa - reception told us to get robes from the spa, spa told us to go to reception. Facilities for the cost were pretty poor. 2nd day again we asked for robes and this time we were told we had to pay for them!Upon returning to the hotel after the theatre we were hungry as hadn't eaten. Asked advice from the receptionist who could only recommend McDonald's.The barman also told me they wouldn't do room service (for drinks) at that time 11.30pm.I spoke to a few other guests who had also experienced various problems, no heating in the room, TV not working.....We felt very deflated when we left.
John Southworth: Excellent stay, setting and facilities were superbRooms: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury …More
Colin Naylor: The location of the Mercure in Sheffield is superb, especially if you are visiting the Crucible theatre. The spa facilities are great and they have a sauna, a steam room and an ice room; where, if you wish, you can douse yourself with ice whilst in an ice cold shower. What bliss! My room was a bit warm as the thermostatic control on the wall didn't seem to do anything; but they took this on board when I checked out.
Julie Arnull: Started to visit crucible and the location is perfect. Can even watch the TV coverage in the winter Gardens from the hotel. Staff were all lovely. Bar was pleasant and airy.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
jon lunn: Very nice hotel, will need refurbishing soon, lounge chairs definitely need throwing away & new ones placed inStaff all organised great breakfast as ever
Keith Foster: First timer to stay in the city centre of Sheffield. The hotel is ideally located, with the bar and restaurant area overlooking the winter garden, which adds a great feel to the experience. The rooms are spacious and well equipped and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.Rooms: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Kid-friendly …More
Rebecca Isaacs: Me and my mom came for a spa day and had a lovely time!! Both had a treatment and used the spa facilities. Lovely staff and location the spa just needs a bit of tlc in my opinion. I would definitely come back though as it was a lovely day. I would also do the afternoon tea next time. Would have stayed longer if booked that. Can't wait to come again.
Rebecca Grace: Polite staff, excellent location and an amazing viewRooms: Comfortable bedRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great view …More

Funtime Unicorn Squad 11: Rooms are clean and the check in is efficient. There is a under ground car park on a first come first served basis. The only slight gripe I had was that the wash basin was in the roomRooms: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Liam S: Ideal hotel for crucible and brammall laneRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great view, Quiet, Great value …More
Clive Parcell: A bit away from the centre but plenty of places locally. Buffet Breakfast well worth having.
Annie ooney: Stayed for 2 nights, first there was confusion about booking, the the room we were given 504 was very run down with 2 camp style beds. The bathroom was very poor abd the room was FREEZING! Coldest hotel I've ever stayed in. No way did the price of £360 price of the room meet expectations. Can't see me ever staying in a Premier inn again.Rooms: Just AWFUL!
Shaun Burnes: Good hotel. Fantastic views from the upper floors . The lower level carpark unfortunately suffers from a slight flooding problem, so it's worth finding a dry parking bay on that level.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Amy Duffy: Premier Inn as they always are.Comfy bed, room just the right size. Breakfast as you want (great sausages).Decent location, at one end of The Moor, so a fair walk to bars and restaurants but that keeps the noise down for sleepingRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5Hotel highlights Quiet, Great value …More
Amanda Montford: Staff work really hard here, managing reception, front of house and restaurant service. Is in need of an update but is clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good.
Colin Sagar: Ideal for city centre.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 3/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
Liann Stephenson: Nice, staff were pleasant attentive and polite and asked about services such as meal requirements and car parking etc no pushy selling. The hotel was clean and well maintained. Corridors were quiet and un clustered. The room was clean, and the standard hotel layout usual complimentary hot drinks and access to toiletries. It's better than expected for a city centre hotel.Food & drinks: Breakfast was lovely buffet style hot and cold options, well stocked and hot, all cooked well, not a single complaint.

kay: the rooms are tiny, beds are uncomfy, the shower and sink are inside the bedroom and there is no privacy. all i can hear is the cars on the road and the window is not sound proof at all, sounds like im outside. will not be returning, dont waste your money on this placeRooms: 1/5|Service: 2/5|Location: 2/5 …More

Liam McCann: Ultimately you get what you pay for but the rooms here are very badly equipped, and the room I was in smelt very dank & damp. Gaps around the window, holes in wall and the very minimum of equipment
Vladimir Kukharev: Not very budget when you spend £150 for one night and then have to pay £6 parking fee on top of that. Hotels in central London don't cost this much! Rooms are a disgrace for this price, no proper shower or toilet.Rooms: 1/5|Service: 1/5|Location: 2/5 …More
