Jerry was a true gentleman of a steed, I'll be back to ride you again fingers crossed, see you soon hopefully G.E.C (and my boy Jezza, think I'm in love) Am I becoming a horse girl? Did not come back.

Lily Lodge Equestrian Centre: what do users think?
Debbie Carter
Debbie Carter: My son had his first lesson with Megan at Lily Lodge today after having a wonderful pony party at the centre last month. All staff are really friendly and welcoming, the centre itself is fully equipped with essentials such as toilet facilities and hat/boot hire to added extras like a gazebo with table and chairs for parties. The ponies are well behaved, clearly well looked after and happy in their work. Megan runs lots of different events for the children throughout the year such as pony days and other fun seasonal events which we'll certainly look to attend. I can highly recommend this centre, my son can't wait to go back! Thankyou Lily Lodge ❤️

I thought it was amazing, to say were in the middle of covid they really pulled out all the stops and made it an unforgettable experience for the little ones! She couldn’t stop taking about it and even though it was a group event, all the kids got plenty of time with Santa. I loved the fact that the elf came over and got them excited beforehand too, not to mention the hot chocolate and the gift they received. Well worth the money 🎅🏼We also take her to lessons here and they are absolutely brilliant, she’s 3 nearly 4 and is learning so much already. They are very patient with the little ones and make the lessons fun and engaging. ☺️

We left halfway through the trek and went to collect her after the stable management, she was absolutely buzzing, raving about what she had been allowed to do, speaking highly of how friendly the staff had been and wanting to know when she could return. I would thoroughly recommend this establishment to anyone.

Anthony Broadhead
Anthony Broadhead: Excellent venue . Excellent staff very helpful
John Swallow
John Swallow: My child went here for a few years and enjoyed learning to ride and developing her skills. I thought they stood around a little too long but she made progress so she was happy. It is a shame I'm leaving 1 star a staff member would swear at my child and despite informing the site this continued which led to my child leaving the hobby. I don't subject my child to that language and I don't expect others to at a professional outfit.
Rebecca Eccles

Laura Olsen
Laura Olsen: This post in relation to the shop. Purchased an unsatisfactory item which I believe is a “second” but was sold as newStaff offer little advice, were rude and dismissive this can also be said for the owner of business whom when I seek a resolution he response was and I quote “ you do what you need to do”Instead of trying resolve the problem they simply washed their hands of issue and clearly do not care what distress they have caused me.Their customer care and complaint procedure doesn’t exist - I will NEVER shop here again nor would I recommend anyone else to.

Cloughfields Equestrian Centre: what do users think?
Evelyn Ketels
Evelyn Ketels: After spending more time getting off horses via the side exit my confidence was zero to none. Just had my first lesson at cloughfields my confidence is massively boosted. Jodie has such an amazing and positive way of explaining things. She’s quick to correct and even quicker to praise so I immediately understood what was needed. Can’t wait to turn these lessons into a regular series. And all the people in my lesson couldn’t have been nicer. I truly felt welcomed. Thanks and see you soon x Evelyn
Lucy
Lucy: I love Cloughfields, I have recently started riding here and had a change from a previous riding school. They are so welcoming and really allow you to shine and be independent within your riding. Something different each week and never dull. I hope to ride here for a long time:)
Umm Khaleed
Umm Khaleed: Very rude
tom senior
tom senior: The owner was actively rude to my 5 and 2 year old children for looking at the horses in the field off Bolehill Rd (top of Long Lane). She tried to make us move from a public highway, obviously we refused.I will be making a point of frequently walking on the public footpath through the stables (which was there when they bought it and surely was factored into the price).Edit: this happened in July 2020. Phoning you to discuss seems pointless Bruce.Edit 2: Lol, where did it say I was encouraging my child to touch a horse, she was literally looking at it through the fence. The lady who came to have a pop was on your side of the fence so I’m assuming she was something to do with your stables. She was very rude and had the social skills of Vladimir Putin.Just saying something didn’t happen doesn’t will it out of existence. From what I’ve heard from the local community and on community forums such as Facebook this is not an isolated incident.
Tracy Morgan
Tracy Morgan: A truly professional yard with amazing facilities and such a lovely location. The horses are well cared for. Everything a horse and rider could wish for.
Paul Morgan
Paul Morgan: Cloughfields is an exceptional yard, superb facilities with great people such as Mandy and Jodie who cannot do enough to help when help is needed. We have had our horses at many yards over the years, but without a doubt this is up there as one of the best.
Rebecca Hamer
Rebecca Hamer: I just wanted to update to say my experiences at Cloughfields just get better and better! The horses and ponies are so well cared for and loved, and there’s a horse for every level. The atmosphere is excellent and I’ve formed real friendships here. The competitions are so much fun and such a lovely way to bring everyone together and recognise the achievements of everyone, young and older!I look forward to bringing my step-daughter here when she’s old enough as I have been to many stables but none compare to Cloughfields.
Graham Oldfield
Graham Oldfield: Had a nightmare time with this establishment. After 12 lessons and £300 down my granddaughter has gone backwards in her riding. In 12 weeks she has barely been able to get a pony into trot and having watched two of the recent ones I could see why. In the lesson I observed the five horses managed around 50 meters between them in trot as the riders kicked in vain. The ponies are not suitable for young riders. My granddaughter decided to quit just after I had paid for a 4 lesson block as she couldn’t face it anymore. I asked for a refund and they said no . I said I would leave a suitable review and they then said I could have a refund but it would have to be cash even though I’d sent my bank details and said I would have to drive 10 miles to collect. I asked how much the refund would be and they wouldn’t reply. They then said if I left a bad review their solicitor would be in touch. So here it is 😂I’ve told them I don’t want any refund. I was sick of being treat like a child by there management team. They then said they tried to sell the business on Wednesday to refund me.😂Really poor customer relations in every dealing I’ve had with them.
Ann Bull
Ann Bull: Thank you so much for yesterday's dressage event. It is so fantastic to have the opportunity to learn, to spend time on the yard and with the ponies and to laugh with friends. Jodie and Mandy, your hard work putting these events on for us and your infectious enthusiasm is so appreciated. Bring on the gymkhana x
Charlotte Stanley
Charlotte Stanley: After giving up horse riding 13 years ago, I really wanted to start back up again as an adult. Choosing Cloughfields was the best decision I ever made! I was nervous to get back on a horse again after so many years, but I was made to feel right at ease. Jodie is an exceptional teacher - always encouraging and instilling confidence. She strives for improvement at all times whilst also making sure we all have the most fun! The horses are all so well looked after, and Mandy is so lovely too! Monday is my favourite day of the week now.
Helen Roope
Helen Roope: This is a fantastic riding school, all the staff are professional, friendly and welcoming. I have been having lessons for over a year and I feel I have learnt so much and progressed more than I expected. This is thanks to Jodie, who is an excellent riding instructor , who always go above and beyond to ensure lessons are fun and informative. Could not recommend enough for people looking to start riding lessons.
Piper Taylor
Piper Taylor: Our family started out at Cloughfield in the riding school, but with a plan in place to purchase a first horse asap and become a livery. From the moment we found our horse the Cloughfield team supported us through all the 'first' experiences, what rug weight to put on tonight, when to have jabs, all the things as a non horsey mum i needed help with. For my daughters Jodie made sure we felt ready for competitions, how to warm up, prep for the tests, etc. For anyone thinking of getting a first pony, horse for yourself, daughter / son, i recommend the support with this you will get at cloughfield.
Alex Morley
Alex Morley: Wonderfully welcoming riding school with great staff. My daughter has been riding at Cloughfields for years. She has gone from a very underconfident 13 year old to a fully confident 16 year old with their gentle encouragement and infectious enthusiasm 😊She is working towards BHS stage two and volunteers regularly at weekends to help.Thank you so much Jodie and Mandy
Hayley Dennell
Hayley Dennell: The stables are fantastic all the horses are really well looked after. My Daughter as had riding lessons here for the pass few years.Mandy Jodie are brilliant and very accomplished at teaching. My daughter love’s it there and they have looked after her over the years.I would highly recommend them.👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Kate Burgess
Kate Burgess: Professional, friendly and welcoming. My 8 yr old started riding lessons at Cloughfields about 6 months ago. It is the highlight of her week. Lovely staff and well cared for ponies.
Jenny Saunders
Jenny Saunders: Excellent riding school and livery stables. My daughter has been having lessons here for two years (apart from Covid restrictions) and has gone from a complete beginner to passing her BHS stage 1! The ponies and horses are all high quality and well looked after and Jodie is a first class teacher who is constantly updating her own knowledge and makes the whole experience safe and fun!
Muriel Kosovsky
Muriel Kosovsky: I started riding at Cloughfield at the end of summer 2021. I ride both with the riding school and livery as I loan a horse there. The Cantrill family have been very welcoming. In my 35+ years riding career I have seen only a handful of yards as well-maintained and organised as this one. The teaching is of a very high quality and very positive and supportive, with a real passion behind it.The livery is really well-organised down to the details which makes the owners and horses life so much smoother and easier. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen riding-school horses being so well treated!Facilities are great for all seasons and there is plenty of space for turnout. I would happily keep my future horse there and would have complete peace of mind if I had to be away for a holiday or work.I have read some of the reviews from walkers and it is a shame that people would willingly want to damage the reputation of such a good yard for no reason. The right of way is clearly signposted and people need to get on with it!
Mary Barrett
Mary Barrett: This supportive and professional riding and exam centre has brought my daughter from under-confident to passing her first BHS exams. The exam process was run smoothly and her lessons are from teachers with a true talent for bringing out the best in individuals. Cloughfields have gone out of their way to facilitate her in achieving her goals. All this meant that, despite the nerves, she enjoyed the exam process and is keen to get on to the next stage.
Andy Waind
Andy Waind: My daughter has been riding at Cloughfields for the last 3 years. During this time, she has really developed as a rider and loves both riding and spending time at the stables. Her teachers are all excellent and have always been really encouraging to her. She has recently been studying for and has just passed her BHS Stage 1 qualification at her first attempt which is a credit to the level of training she has received. I’d definitely recommend.
Becky Cutts
Becky Cutts: Recently trained with Cloughfields for my BHS exam. The owners and trainers were lovely, very friendly, approachable and helpful. They understood I had already been involved with horses for many years, and yet didn't make me feel belittled one bit. Exam day ran as smoothly as it could. Everything we needed was to hand, and we were kept informed of what was happening and when. I'll definitely be back for more training and exams.

Moira Benson
Moira Benson: Had a riding lesson from Sue, riding Margaret the Clydesdale who was very steady. Sue was very knowledgeable and helped me with walking, stopping, steering and trotting. She told me about Margaret and her habits.I enjoyed it a lot. I recommend the first time you go in the daylight if possible because although it's signposted off Ringinlow Rd, once you get down the narrow road, it's hard to know where to go/park the first time. The gate opens when you approach it. (Didn't know that so I tried to park up) Then drive through a yard with some parking available or keep going to the next car park near the archery. You can easily book a private lesson online and then when you've been assessed you can book classes based on your level of competence. You also can take the horse back to her stable and untack them, which helps you understand "your" horse betterWill go again 🐴

Matt hew
Matt hew: Sadly have to give a very low rating.I booked a session, specifically said to them I didn't want to go on a long walk and was told would be able to canter and gallop in the group with my kids of varying ability.Ended up on a walk and trot for over £100. Hardly able to trot as the horse in front refused. Complete waste of our money which is tight. Was told the boss would come and speak to me after one of the (lovely) instructors realized the problem. Left outside for 30 mins and had to ask again, waited another 15 mins. Then Mrs came out instead of Mr and proceeded to try to railroad me. Eventually she listened but was hard work and was dismissed with a "my husband will call you later". Two days later and no response. Kinda spoiled our holiday (first for 5 years) a bit as it was the lion share of our budget for the holiday and it was sort of taken under false pretences. If theyd just apologised I prob would have just left it but as they have just ignored me and obviously don't care then I should review honestly. If you just want what is "written on their tin" I'm sure it'll be fine. Don't ask for anything specific though. It was like going to a fancy restaurant and asking the chef if you can have roast potatoes. You also tell him you don't want chips specifically. He agrees and promises roasties, charges you 100quid, gets the waiter to serve you chips and then disappears when you ask, 'oi! Where's my spuds!?'

Lightwood Livery, Stabling/Arena Hire/Riding Lessons: what do users think?
Lee
Lee: Lightwood Livery, also known as mansion House farm is unfortunately poorly managed. The location is really good and both the indoor and outdoor arena are really well kept. The outdoor arena is floodlit (you will need make sure you are aware of what time they are turned off at night),The indoor arena lights are metered and charged with £1 for 20min (this is not included in the livery fee). There is an old horse walker that has been extended with heras fencing to act as a make shift round pen, although can be occupied for days at a time by horses for isolation purposes. The stables are various sizes and most come with automatic water feeders but the ceilings and floors can be leaky. It has been promised that the stables will be rebuilt “at some point” although this has yet to happen and many DIY liveries have been known to do their own repairs.Stables getting allocated at the initial viewing/ arrival can be changed at the yard owners’ digression without discussing with the DIY liveries first (even if a livery has spent time and money repairing one).In winter the lights for the stables and tack rooms are switched off at 7pm.The horses are kept in small herds, geldings and mares are separated, except for one of the yard owners’ geldings, who is kept with the mares and is known to often bite other horses, more so when the grass is low.The quality of the fencing varies from adequate to poor (some on mains electric and some on batteries) and is a lot of times left to the liveries to repair or move if needed to manage grass. The owner, although doesn't live far away, does not live on site and there are often periods where there is no-one on site other than the liveries. On occasion it has been observed that horses on full liveries have run out of feed and water. The communication from the owner is poor and any changes from the management are often only communicate via a bulletin on the Facebook group.Due to the above mentioned and other issues there have recently been a high turnover of liveries. If you consider this livery for your Horse, I would recommend you ensure a good written and accurate livery contract is in place that details the particulars of agreements discussed at viewing, and describes all responsibilities in detail including all fees, what’s included and what the extras are (such as repair costs, fencing, hay, bedding, storage and which fields your horses will be allocated to and how many they will share with etc.).Talk to the current and past liveries about their experience to ensure it is suitable for yourself and your horse.
