Leopold Hotel Sheffield: what do users think?

Joe Barrett: The hotel is situated in an absolutely amazing building, I love the fact that they’ve managed to keep the history of the building within the hotel and included items and photos from when this was a school! the staff were very friendly and gave me and my partner a very warm welcome as we entered. the hotel was exceptionally clean. our room was on the lower ground floor and was very clean as well. the room was a decent size and the bed was very comfy. will definitely be coming back again, The only downside and I can understand that nothing can be done about this but the outside noise from the cocktail bar next door was very noisy, even through the double glazed doors. but I completely understand that there is nothing that can be done about this! Will certainly be coming back again soon, very interested in booking the suite next time, 10/10!!

Jonathan Booker: Stayed here for a night before seeing a show in Sheffield. The room was amazing, we stayed in one of the Mezzanine Suites. Definitely an experience having your room go 2 levels. The bed was big and comfy and is probably one of the largest rooms every stayed in. Breakfast in the morning was very good, bar was nice to sit in and relax. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. Would consider here again in future.

Shane Hoare: Excellent hotel very centrally located. Rooms were large and well equipped....I got one at the front that is kind of split level on account of the long windows....makes for a huge room! Staff were friendly and helpful although night manager advised breakfast finished at 10.30....when we arrived at 10am a rather put out waitress nearly refused us. Beware the 10am finish time. Other than that though, a great stay in a smart and clean hotel. 👌

Chiara Intrivici: Great position. City center walking distance from train station. In front of shopping center and restaurants. My room was extremely clean . The heating system was easy to manage. People at the reception were absolutely perfect. Strongly recommend.

Amanda Robinson: Return visit as we were so impressed on our first stay, it didn’t disappoint. The staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. This hotel is in a fabulous central location and the building itself is wonderfully restored maintaining a lot of its history from its origin as a School then Council Education offices. The room was well equipped, very clean and quiet. Breakfast was amazing, buffet style catering for every taste. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Emma: Just back from staying at the Leopoldo Hotel whilst in Sheffield and can’t wait to return. We met the manager as we entered the hotel and he was lovely and welcoming. We arrived from Glasgow at 12 and even though check in was not until 2 they had a room available for us. All staff were friendly and attentive. The room was clean and luxurious. Beautiful hotel with lots of history. Ideal location. Will not stay anywhere else in Sheffield. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Roberto Tanaka: Good location, the breakfast was ok, only one of the days the orange juice was more water with juice than a proper juice. Complaint about the towel heater that was not working in the morning of my second day, at night one member of the staff came to my room, only to check if I knew to press the button to turn on the heater, that of course was not working. Next morning, complaint again and they told me that someone from manutention would go to my room to fix the problem. Til the end of my stay the heater was still broken.Nearby activities: Lots of stores, restaurants, shoppings, cafes around.Walkability: Stay in this hotel because of the proximity with crucible venue.Food & drinks: Lots of options of bar and restaurants in the area.
Allen Cunningham: Great service. Lovely room. However, it was very, very noisy from bars under our window.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Ultimate-Leadership Training: My wife and I had a great stay. the hotel and the team working there were excellent. I'd definitely recommend it and stay againRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Rachel Abbott: The most problematic part for us was booking. We rang so many times and the booking had not been made or was wrong. Eventually it was sorted. They simply would not allow an early check in for us either so we had to stay and extra night with the booking being for a wedding. The woman I spoke to said she had never heard of this being doneanf they did not offer it even though the website mentions it. The room was nice, comfy and clean and soacious and a travel cot provided for my little girl. There was a lot of loud music coming from the street below until around 1am. This was the case even though I asked for a quiet room. The breakfast was nice but not included in the price of the room, which for the cost of the hotel seems pretty unreasonable. Also be aware that parking is extra and quite a distance away but it is really easy to find and a safe feeling location.Nearby activities: Lots do do a great central location.
Joe Quinn: Used this hotel when I was recently visiting The Crucible for the snookerRooms: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 5/5 …More
TheIronmaster1: This was the second stay at The Leopold for a group of friends and myself. We were in Sheffield for a music event and the hotel suited our needs admirably. Conveniently situated for the music venue and other facilities with Leopold Square, adjacent to the hotel, offering a number of restaurants. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. We would certainly return should our travels take us back to Sheffield.

The Garrison Hotel, Guardhouse Bar and Restaurant: what do users think?

Roger Neale: Good size rooms and decent size towels, unlike some hotels. Comfy bed and, considering the location, a very quiet night sleep. Great location with a reasonable amount if free parking. Morrison Supermarket just across the road. Only marked service down because breakfast, whilst being superbly delicious, was a bit slow at being delivered. Bonus of being slow is that it was nice and fresh. A very interesting building with an equally interesting history.

Chris Mcloughlin: I like staying in hotels that are quirky and historic and this has both. The site was once a walled barracks so is very well built. The rooms were of a good size and the bed was comfortable to sleep in. The only downside was the toilet seat was small, must have been designed for children. Definitely worth another visit

Aaron Holmes-Doyle: I was visiting Sheffield with a close friend as we was visiting a few events in Sheffield, once we got to the hotel the staff was lovely and welcoming. We got checked in and booked into our hotel room quite quickly. We looked into the history of the buildings as it was an old army base/gaurd House for the army. Lovely building and architectures throughout the hotel and surrounding buildings. The staff was very friendly and apologied to us about the breakfast being cut short due to an event they had. They offered a free drinks at the bar for the inconvenience. We had a lovely stay, amazing views and breath taking place. Credits to the staff and management of the hotel. Kind regards, Aaron Rooms: Rooms looked lovely and spacious. Amazing work. Food & drinks: Drinks was great, had a wide selection to choose from.

Amanda Richardson: Went for Sunday Lunch today with my parents and in-laws and what can I say, the food was amazing, all freshly cooked, generous portions and staff are amazing, friendly and very welcoming. Couldn’t eat a dessert as the main was so filling. Be defo going back in a regular basis. Best Sunday Dinner I’ve ever had….. apart from my own lol 5*******

Julie Magee: We had just a one night stay, but it was perfect for what we wanted, room was clean, cosy and warm, slept really well, we had a twin room breakfast included, what a bargain for a Thursday night, a lovely bar very nice breakfast, would definitely stay again.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Quiet, Great value …More

Stephanie Dunn: Nice location next to the main road that leads towards the city centre or up to crookes. The outside bar area is lovely in the evening sunshine. The staff are really nice and everything is clean. We changed our booking to add a child last minute, we were happy with a camp bed but the staff kept an eye out for a cancellation and gave us a family room, which was lovely of them. The beds are comfy. I sleep through anything but the husband struggled with the noise of people walking and talking in the room above us at night. People smoke outside their rooms and if you open your door to air the room while someone is smoking, the room quickly fills with the smell of smoke, which was my only issue. Breakfast was good with a wide variety of cooked options provided in addition to the buffet.
Cathy Barabas: I stayed here in April 2022 while on a solo holiday. The owners did a great job keeping the historical feel of the building. Staff were kind, courteous, and welcoming. Although some small updates could be made to it, the room was well kept and the bed was comfortable. The grounds were beautifully kept, making the courtyard a lovely oasis even though the A61 is just over 70 metres away, as the crow flies.I would definitely stay here again.
Thomas “LordTikTokUKOfficial” Lorimer: During my recent stay at The Garrison Hotel Sheffield, I had the opportunity to experience the hotel's amenities, including their food offerings and accommodations. While the hotel boasted some standout features, such as the remarkable food, there were areas that left something to be desired, particularly in terms of the dated room decor. Here is my honest review as a paying guest at The Garrison Hotel Sheffield.Food and Dining:One of the standout aspects of The Garrison Hotel was undoubtedly the food. The on-site restaurant offered a delectable array of dishes that exceeded my expectations. From breakfast to dinner, the menu showcased a variety of flavors, using locally sourced ingredients and presenting them with creativity and finesse. The quality and taste of the food were exceptional, and the attentive service from the staff further enhanced the dining experience. Whether it was the hearty breakfast options or the delectable evening meals, the food at The Garrison Hotel was a true highlight.Accommodations and Room Decor:While the food was a standout, I found the accommodations at The Garrison Hotel to be somewhat disappointing. The room I stayed in had a dated decor and furnishings that could benefit from a refresh. The overall ambiance lacked a modern touch, and the furniture showed signs of wear and tear. Although the room was clean and adequately equipped with essential amenities, the outdated aesthetic detracted from the overall experience. It would be wonderful to see The Garrison Hotel invest in refurbishing the rooms to match the quality of their food and dining experience.Staff and Service:The staff at The Garrison Hotel Sheffield were friendly and accommodating throughout my stay. From the reception desk to the restaurant, the employees demonstrated professionalism and a willingness to assist with any requests or inquiries. They were knowledgeable about the local area, providing helpful recommendations for exploring Sheffield. The staff's attentiveness and warm demeanor contributed positively to the overall guest experience, and their efforts should be commended.Location:The Garrison Hotel's location in Sheffield was convenient, offering easy access to nearby attractions and transportation options. Situated in a historic building, the hotel exuded a unique charm, and the surrounding area provided a glimpse into Sheffield's rich heritage. Whether exploring the city's cultural landmarks or enjoying the nearby parks and gardens, guests would find plenty to see and do in the vicinity of The Garrison Hotel. Conclusion:In conclusion, The Garrison Hotel Sheffield offers a mixed experience for paying guests. While the food and dining experience were exceptional, with delectable dishes and attentive service, the dated room decor left much to be desired. The staff's professionalism and the hotel's convenient location were additional positives. I would recommend The Garrison Hotel to food enthusiasts who appreciate a remarkable dining experience, but for those seeking modern and updated accommodations, it may be worth considering other options in Sheffield.

Daniel Parkin: Our first time stay at The Garrison Hotel was great. The team where super friendly, the room clean and did on the whole what we wanted, breakfast was lovely and there was a nice bar area. (Only minor point was the room walls seemed super thin, as we could hear everything from next door through the night)Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

Sian Hopkins-Smith: Be aware only first room has b&b but £8 was over priced for the options.Handy mcds next door.Morrisons store with garage oppositeComfy beds. Nice showerFree parkingBar has limited beer selectionSteep steps from bar to rooms (issue for 70 year old Father with mobility issues) was easier to walk down the hill into front lobby.Great location 2 mins walk to bus stop (no 86 gets you to Cruicible fyi) tram stop little further.Would stay again but the booking error didn't help from the start.
Kishor Kumar: Very nice location next to Morrison and McDonald's restaurant. Set in a lovely Victorian courtyard, the building is steeped in over 160 years of history, furthermore the original features have been restored and are a beacon for the era particularly with the turrets and ramparts within the grounds.Nearby activities: Morrison Supermarket and McDonald's restaurant next door.
GILLIAN Goldstraw: Lovely food in the restaurant, quick service and very friendly staff
Michael Friedrich: Room okayish although it could do with a makeover. (Who needs a bathtub anyway?) The bathroom taps are traditionally English outdated. The bed was small and uncomfy.Biggest disgrace was the breakfast. Got into the breakfast room at 9:05 and asked for some croissants to be restocked in the poor buffet. Answer was: 'No, we are closing.' Excuse me, there were still a good 50 minutes to go and croissants could not be restocked? Luckily, there were some slices of toast left and we got them before the next guests arrived (and had to wait long before it was restocked). Could have had 4 breakfasts there, but decided not to use this feature anymore after our first attempt.Parking is a nuisance as well. Only few parking spaces, so guests have to resort semi-legal parking.Cheers to the cleaners. They did a great job every day.Nearby activities: You can walk to the Hillsborough Stadium (about 15 mins).
Kyle Armstrong: Great place to stay

Maheshchandra Tapuriah: very conveniently located for the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Good and comfortable hotel. Nice bed, good shower, good towels. breakfast has to be paid for but is good quality. Rooms: rooms are reasonably sized, clean, have tea / coffee kettle, good and clean towels, bed is very comfortable. heating is good. Safety: it has plenty to of cctv coverage and is in a quiet residential area, Walkability: it is only about 2 minutes for able body person to walk from the hospital main reception. very convenient for hospital users.

michael Warner: Well appointed 4x Hotel in pleasant suburb of Sheffield, convenient for hospitals University and shops , yet away from noise of city , ( 10 minutes away).pleasant rooms , clean , well appointed, polite staff, and no high rise building for a change, would totally recommend.Hotel highlights Quiet …More

Nigel Holmes: Room as expected for the price. Clean and had everything we needed and a good place to stay for visiting the hospital as only a 5 minute walk away. Slept well, comfy bed.
Janette Ryan: Very basic and tired hotel. There’s no space to put anything in the bathroom, no fridge, no toiletries (no soap or shower gel), no glasses or water, no tissues, not enough power sockets and only a small TV. The heater was off so the room was cold and the bathroom heater didn’t work. The door didn’t lock properly and the basin was a bit blocked so it kept making gurgling noises. The breakfast wasn’t very good quality, the scrambled eggs were tasteless, covered in black pepper and so watery I had to drain the water off into a bowl. The staff were very nice though and the bed was comfortable

Big D: Very basic and dated. Staff were faultless though and I bet a little bit embarrassed working in such a hovel. Avoid if you can.Rooms: 2/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 2/5 …More
Max M: AMAZING bed, but apart from that I would say it is a 3 star hotel not 4 star.Good points:A good hairdryer and fan was provided, several large mirrors, blackout curtains, TV worked, great location, very quiet night’s sleep (apart from the people walking past), clean enough, warm and fresh bed, temperature controllable rooms, excellent heated towel rail, room window opened, nice staff, and one of the two very small car parks had spaces when we arrived at 3pm on a Friday.Negatives:Had to wait a long time for breakfast and there seemed to be only one really hard-working nice lady doing everything (taking orders, clearing tables, bringing out food), not worth £10. No water or hot water for the tea bags. We drove 10 minutes to a better (and cheaper) place the next day - Grindleford Station Café.I wore flip-flops in the shower because the floor felt greasy, and there was mould on the sealant and dirt in the drain which would have been easy to clean off. Dirty limescale-encrusted shower head & water pressure not great. Water from bathroom tap tasted strongly of chlorine but could just be the city water. Dowels left in the wall - just need removing and filling to look better. My friend found a big silverfish scuttling around. Extractor fan did not work so bathroom stayed damp for hours. Heard one lady complaining that she had a cold shower, and one of our party said the shower temperature kept changing while using it. To be expected in an old hotel but not ideal.Only 2 small and flimsy toilet rolls given for 2 nights and no tissues. In room 69 whenever someone walks past outside it makes the bed shake & is loud so wakes you up with a start, but people do not walk past that often so it wasn’t a big problem. Found half a chocolate bar etc under the bedside table. Decor a bit random including dodgy painted plywood to surround the window/curtains. Room a bit dark and one of the bedside lights buzzed loudly when in use. Would have been nice to have some soft/yellow lighting to create a relaxing atmosphere before bed instead of harsh white lights. The chair had a smear of blood on it.My friend said his bed had a big uncomfortable dip in the mattress, but this had gone by the next night, so possibly just because some heavier people had stayed in it the night before we arrived?I probably wouldn’t stay here again.
Kate Tandy: Absolutely perfect. Lovely, quiet room in an interesting hotel with lots of character. Was staying a couple of nights for treatment at Hallamshire Hospital, so was literally 5 minutes walk away - perfect. Will definitely think about returning for a break away in future.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Quiet, Great value …More

Sefton Winslade (Sef): Great service and a really nice room with all you need for a stay Room was a good size and clean and bed was huge and comfy.Full English breakfast was amazing. Plenty of cereal options as well. Reasonable location from town centre (approx 20-25 minute walk into town) bus stop nearby also with good service into town.Nearby activities: Plenty to see and do you in Sheffield town centre. Botanical gardens were a 10 minute walk from the hotel.Winter Gardens (in town centre) definitely worth a visit too.Walkability: 20-25 minute walk into town centre. 35 minute walk to train station.Food & drinks: Cooked breakfast was amazing!
Carrie Girling: Only stayed overnight, but room was exactly as described.Great value for moneyRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great view, Quiet, Great value …More

Gerhard Hastreiter: More on the depressing side.We stayed for two nights at the Rutland (2 doubles, one single). All in all the impression was more on the depressing side. Positive: the mattress was better than it looked on first impression, the bathroom was nice and quite new, the room was refurbished to some degree. Negative: the heater in the bathroom didn‘t work (very chilly) but most importantly: the whole atmosphere is dark and — I repeat myself— rather depressing. Can‘t say anything about friendliness. Interaction with staff was minimal. How the Rutland gets a four star rating is a true miracle. You can stay two nights if it is for the location (close to the university and the hospital). Otherwise, I would check alternatives.

Beautiful green surroundings off the main road.Reception staff were helpful and welcoming. Our room was quite small but adequate for 1 night and exceptionaly clean. The bathroom was huge with a large shower. There are also bath robes.Netspresso machine in each room. Room well stocked with coffee pods and Borders biscuits. On each floor there is a top up dresser filled with coffee pods, biscuits, and a small fridge stocked with milk, water and Tunnocks teacakes! On return from our night out we ventured into the bar where we were served by Cameron who was a lovely, friendly lad.Breakfast. Andrew Betney: Unwelcome wake up call at 6.30am on a not so easy Sunday morning from the kitchen staff! A very disappointing stay.Review of Halifax HallReviewed 4 days agoWe booked two rooms to stay one night as we were attending a family wedding reception. We arrived earlier than check in so decided to have something to eat. We could only eat in the bar area. The lunch menu was limited and prices were quite high. Staff were very friendly and polite but we waited half an hour for our food to come. The food was okay but not worth the price. The hotel rooms were very basic and the hotel decor was quite tired and dated. The beds were comfy and the rooms were warm a bit too warm at times. The worst part of the stay was being woken up at 6.30am to blaring music which sounded like a radio. We couldn't tell where it was coming from but we could hear it crystal clear in our room. I rang down to the reception and was told they would do a walk round to see where it was coming from and apologised. The music continued. It got to 7.10am and it was still going so my husband got dressed and went to see where it was coming from. He came back and said it was coming from the kitchen which was below us. I rang reception again and they apologised, said they would tell the manager and thanks for letting them know. The music stopped. Surely, if the rooms are so close to the kitchen you would think consideration had been made about this! On check out I did explain when asked how the stay was about this and the member of staff said that her and another member of staff did the walk round and couldn't find where the music was coming from. They apologised and thanked me for telling them about it with a little laugh off. Felt brushed off and disappointed with the responses. I would be mortified that kitchen staff could be so inconsiderate of guests and have a radio blaring at 6.30am on a Sunday morning and think management need to prevent this from happening again. The breakfast menu had a good, broad choice and food again was okay. Full English was quite bland in flavour. Continental options were also good. My daughter really enjoyed her waffles though.Rooms: Don't accept room 2012

Karen Baker: This outstanding hotel is set in a very quiet and picturesque part of Sheffield with the Botanic gardens on your doorstep. Very clean rooms with a coffee machine. Delicious breakfast with quality ingredients. Gluten-free bread is available. Great location for town, walk in 30 minutes, bus 15 mins. But for me, what made this hotel outstanding were the staff, who were so friendly, welcoming, and helpful at all times. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They all looked smiley every day and always looked like they were enjoying their work. Thank you. If we're in Sheffield again, we'll be back😀

Simon Lees: What a fabulous hotel! A superbly reimagined old student hall of residence in some beautifully manicured surroundings. We needed to be close to Endcliffe and this hotel ticked the location box nicely. The room was reasonably sized for a one night stay and the ensuite bathroom was enormous! Importantly it wasn't too hot like most city centre hotels are these days. Bed was super comfy with a firm mattress which we like. Breakfast was fantastic with a good menu choice and cooked and presented exceptionally. Service from all the staff; front of house and waiting on, was also top notch. Everyone was very polite and welcoming. Finally it was nice and quiet with no traffic noise and due to the old building there was absolutely no noise from other guests/doors slamming etc.Rooms: Perfectly adequate size for a one or two night stay. Anything more might require larger rooms. Nespresso coffee machine is a welcome bonus as are the free biscuits and sweets down the corridor. Ensuite is fabulous.Walkability: Within walking distance of all the shops, bars and restaurants Endcliffe has to offer.Food & drinks: Fabulous breakfast. Great choice, freshly cooked and well presented.
Elisbeth Shears: Not very clean. Rest was fine.Rooms: 2/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 3/5 …More
Mark Simcox: Great hotel. Everything superb, no complaints at all, slight accessibility hiccups but worth a bit of jigging around for the hotel experience.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Quiet, Great value …More
Gill Prince: Our second stay here. Nothing really to fault this lovely clean hotel. Room is big enough for what you need with a personal nespresso machine that also dispenses hot waters for tea. Free biscuits and cakes available at all times. Staff super efficient and friendly. Bathroom is huge with top quality shower gel and shampoo. Bed very comfy and room nice and warm. Breakfast is efficiently run by a great team. One possible minor fault is the car parking which is quite scant, that said we did find a space ok.

Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Sheffield, an IHG Hotel: what do users think?

Thomas Fieldsend: One of my best stays in any hotel the food was nice and cooked to the finest I had a walk around in ballroom as it was set up for a wedding and it was brilliant the staff who set that up really put their heart into it. The bar was Beautiful with many choice of drinks. The both stairwells were great and shows how old the building really is the hotel itself is great best iv stayed in Sheffield will definitely recommend and the price was great anorl 👍🏻 Will definitely return in the next year
Anthony Spiller: Lovely staff, great hotel and lovely new rooms and old. I stayed in both and loved the old school Victoria Suite!
Peter Williams: Solid Victorian hotel. Rooms are fairly spacious and comfortable. Service very good and brillant breakfast. Position very difficult to access in car unless you know where it is exactly. Well positioned to walk to the centre but there is an unpleasant road up full of graffiti, abandoned shops and comatose bodies. Get a grip Councillors!Safety: Dubious surroundings not recommended to walk in the evening particularly
desmond boksan-cullen: It was wonderful to stay in a hotel where all the staff seemed to work not only as a team but friends too. This is so rare these days.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Quiet …More

Anirudh Kumar: Nice hotel by Victoria Quays in Sheffield.Visited for a business meeting. Quaint fixtures and fittings but nice room with plenty of space and comfortable chairs. Nice catering with delicious hot chips and cold sandwiches, wraps and salads. Nice selection of water and coffee and tea by machine too.Having attended this meeting in evening following work day, had great amenities for a comfortable and productive session. Great hotel for such business events.
David: Very good in the reception area but the location and view aren't so good. But you wouldn't come here if those two things were the main criteria. The food for our evening meal was appalling. So bad that the manager gave us a free future nights stay which we haven't used because of the food. We came with an experience voucher which caused problems because the staff didn't seem to know what to do. This was the same at night in the restaurant where a free bottle of wine was to accompany the meal. When we asked for it but not to be opened, this caused yet more problems and eventually we had to have all this checked out and sent to the room.
Little Angel: Great hotel with large car park. Choose a room in the historic part of the hotel if you can, rather than the modern extension.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Rachel Hadley: Decided to stop here as came up from Wolverhampton to watch Sister Act the musical with some friends. While the room was really nice I couldn't fault it breakfast was a let down as I got mis-gendered twice by a member of the waiting staff.I did correct her the second time around but the damage was done.Bring trans and having this happen to you as the beginning of the day is now the best way to start the day!
