Russell Scott BackPackers hostel - Sheffield: what do users think?

Sam Walker: staff are so helpful, friendly and welcoming. beds are comfy and everywhere is kept nice and clean. wifi is sound, free toast/cereals/jams and hot drinks are a godsend! big love to Damien, Miguel and Lewis 👊thankyou lads for all your hard graft and kind attitudes :) located in a very hilly part of 7 hills so something to consider if your mobility is impaired

Ashutosh Jha: It was a great experience. Cheap and budget friendly rooms/beds and a good host. Thanks!!!Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More

Maggie Bointon: Very reasonably priced accommodation. Much better than I expected. Good rooms with fresh linen and plenty of bathrooms close by. Large kitchen with ample supplies of breakfast cereal and beverages. Friendly and welcoming staff. Great! 😁Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 4/5 | Location: 4/5 …More

Mami Ichikawa: Location is little far from city central, but price is cheap and including breakfast (serial, bread, tea, coffee and milk (normal, almond and soya)).
Electron826: Very nice hostel given the price. Couldn't ask for moreRooms: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 4/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
Nebogipfel: I'm here in bed, contemplating other's reviews. Firstly, it's not a star rated Hotel. It's a Hostel. I've stayed in a number of Hostels and this measures up nicely. On arrival the chap in reception was very helpful. He was in the process of cleaning the upstairs area. I've come back this evening and he seems to have done a pretty good job. I'm in a twin room with shared facilities and it is perfectly clean and adequate. The only issue I've had is that I come from the South and there are a number of hills in the locality which were testing. Would I recommend it, yes as long as you are realistic in your expectations
John Mills: As always the hostel and staff were excellentRooms: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 4/5 …More
kesiena omajugho: Quite affordable and comfy for the night and comed with breakfast.Rooms: Quite populated,Rooms: 2/5|Service: 3/5|Location: 2/5 …More
Scaramouche Fandango: I've stayed in hostels that were cheaper than this one and we're way better. Room was cramped, 6 people in a small room. Beds were like something from a building site, made from scaffolding and a wooden plank to support underneath. Bathroom facilities were nasty. Didn't appear to ever be cleaned, toilets dirty, shower even worse. Located at the top of a very steep hill. Definitely won't be staying here again.
Anthony Bright: Still staying 1 more night. The hill is not for the faint of heart.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Louisa Garriga: safe place and staff very friendly
Mikaela Korth: Well, it’s a cheap place to stay. Although I would make it even cheaper considering the facilities. We didn’t find our room key until the day of checkout (it was hidden IN the room) so all our stuff was available for the taking had someone chosen to steal it. (Which they didn’t, thankfully).Reception was nice and friendly.Parking was a nightmare as there was only one space at the hostel and my car’s handbrake wasn’t strong enough for the hill outside. The rooms were not clean at all - maybe cleaners come and do the sheets but the carpets, toilet, showers etc all dirty from over time, and the whole building seems to be falling apart. I was just pleased that we had a private room as the bunk dorms looked depressing AF. Also it was way too hot in the night and I woke up several times in a sweat.Breakfast in the morning was also equally depressing with a selection of 3 cereals and some cheap coffee. I wasn’t expecting much but I think if you’re going to advertise “breakfast included” then it should consist of more ingredients - maybe something gluten-free? Or even some fresh fruit?!All in all you get what you pay for I guess!
피그말리온: 침실은 이층 침대에 충전기가 없는 것 빼고는 괜찮았고 공용 주방도 좋았어요. 그런데 샤워실이 좀 더러웠습니다.
yavuz ayas: Çok mütevazi bir hostel. Sabahları kahvaltısı ve free internet i var.
Elizabeth Leather: Friendly, helpful, clean, lots of toast and jam and cuppas - geat for getting to City CentreRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
ANTO: Avoid at all costs ! You get what you pay for as they say well here you get alot less. Absolutely disgusting. Even Pablo escobar couldn't smuggle the amount of dust in this place. Kim Woodburn and aggie mckenzie wouldn't even be able to scratch the surface of this bomb site.Rooms: 1/5|Service: 1/5|Location: 1/5 …More
Jayden Whyatt: Nice staff verry clean.
Francisco Bacete Menchón: Great value for the money on private rooms.Booked here with a short notice (I believe 4 days) and managed to grab a private room for a few days. Staff was really helpful on the first day, facilities are in good condition and the places is well kept and clean. Options in the kitchen for food were plenty and it was always between decent and clean. No rotten food in the fridge!!! I swear it's the first time I find a fridge without rotten food. Not even in the office where there is always someone's pizza from the previous week. Props on that to the staff and guests. My only complaint with my room was that I could hear other guests walking and cooking all the time. So a bit uncomfortable if you are sleeping extra early and have a light sleep.Location can be a bit inconvenient depending on where you want to go and how much you like a steep hill for an entrance. But Sheffield is all about those hills, so that'd be an issue with the city as a whole.Rooms: Room was ample and clean. Double bed, super comfy. No desk or wardrobe. Shared bathroom.Walkability: 30min walking to the city centre, mostly downhill so be ready for a steep way back. There is a big Tesco 10min on foot, and tram nearby (Yellow line)
John Gabbard: Really clean place. Come bed and helpful staff. Would stay again.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Ashutosh Jha: It was a great experience. Cheap and budget friendly rooms/beds and a good host. Thanks!!!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
Alice Blackwood: Honestly the worst hostel I have ever stayed in, on all fronts. The floors, bathrooms, bunk rooms were all FILTHY, to the point that I was afraid to touch surfaces or put my stuff down. I did not feel safe leaving any valuables in the hostel room, and only tiny lockers were available to rent. The hostel was still open despite being under renovation, and it was like living on a construction site, with paint and debris everywhere and workers staring when I came out of the shower and making comments. There was only one working toilet and two shower stalls for the whole floor, and these were filthy with no soap. It looked like the reception guy was sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the reception area; the whole place was like entering a squat or a hoarder's filthy apartment. And he was a mean guy, too-- one guy arrived all the way from India with a reservation and having paid the fee to reserve a bed, but the hostel worker kicked him out at 10pm to sleep on the street because he had accidentally overbooked the dorm room. He would not even let him stay in the common area, he kept telling him very rudely to leave, even though it was his own mistake and he should be profusely apologising and doing everything he could to make it up to him! Terrible service and a disgusting place.
paulthomasheywood: We have been here before when we go to a music festival in the city centre. Last time was an amazing experience. Unfortunately this time I cannot say the same.Look at the photos I have attached.First of all we were not told until arrival that we had to pay a £30 deposit (this should have been mentioned at time of booking).Secondly, there were face masks and filth all down the side of my bed. (The had to come remove them). There was only one lightbulb in the light fittings so seeing at night was quite difficult.I was having a shower in the morning and the shower head holder fell off the wall and hit me in the face. The dust and cobwebs were everywhere and black mold on the ceiling in the shower room.Upon check out I always strip the beds and clean the room but when I did there was 100s of urine stains on the mattress I had slept on. And my son's was the same. The carpet looked like it had been used as toilet roll with dirty brown marks all over it.I have emailed and given them a chance to reply but nothing as yet.

Richard Allum: While the location is a bit far from the city centre the rooms are decently sized, there are decent showers and a fairly well equipped kitchen, and everything is kept very clean. The room came with a fridge and TV, and all the beds were fairly comfortable singles.

Lucy Brown: Lovely and clean accommodation. Beds were comfortable and there was street parking available. The kitchen was very clean and well equipped. Incredibly reasonable prices!

easyHotel Sheffield City Centre: what do users think?

Adam: When I was waiting for my taxi in the morning, after checking out, on the pavement there was a male pigeon engaged in his courtship ritual toward a nice lady pigeon. Unfortunately despite his best efforts, puffing out his chest magnificently and dragging his fanned-wide tail about on the floor, she spurned his advances and wandered off to continue foraging for breakfast. I stayed at this hotel in a last-minute booking after I moved house and was unexpectedly unable to book transport until the next day. The room was small and without windows but that was what I expected, both from the price and the fact that it was described as such on the website when I was booking. The front desk staff were helpful and very accommodating to the fact that I arrived very late and checked out very early.

Bethany Leadley: Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a night away in November 2021. It was a great little hotel. The room was basic but had everything you needed (a bed and a bathroom). I wouldn’t want to stay here for more than a couple of nights, but for a short stay it’s a great choice. We only paid around £30 for one night which I thought was really reasonable.

Diana Capurina: Nice hotel in city centre, very clean and tidy room, great service. Nice place to stay over night or two, but would recommend to add at least tea or coffee table, as not really convenient to keep all the necassary things in the bag or on the floor. Also I would add few hooks as after shower there is no place where to keep the towel especially if you want to reuse it in the morning.
Alex Birchall: Theo was very helpful, would definitely come again.
Harish Vangara: The location is perfect as it is close to the railway station.Rooms are small, and the toilet has a glass door.Chloe, the front desk executive, was very sweet and had swiftly checked us in.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 4/5 …More

Marc Jones: Great little stay over in Sheffield, handy location, Symone was very helpful on reception 🙂Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
James Morphet: You get what you pay for. Very clean and tidy though. Staff nice too. Everything you need for a cheap sleep. Low price attracts groups of drunk lads who are full of life when you want a rest. Can be a bit noisy in the corridors at night. We were all young once though….
hamza baz: Great room, great customer service, heads up for Nathan he’ll take care of thingsRooms: Nice room

Ulka Chandini Pendit: The hotel has good location and service. It is close to KFC, Subway, and other supermarkets. However, there is no kettle, coffee or tea in the room as they provide it in the reception with the coffee&tea machine with £2. Plus they have really good front desk. Phil was very helpful, kind and friendly. I came at 12 pm night to ask for the Briyani rice that my friend put in the reception and he also offered and explained me about the hotel which is very kind of him. Not only him, Symone is also very kind and always smile. She is lent me iron with iron board and always answered my question with smile and warm vibe. I am very satisfied with Phil and Symone's service.Safety: Couple times I accidentally realized I didn't close my door properly but hamdulillah nothing happened and the hotel is very safe.Walkability: Very close to city center.
Kirsten: Chloe was great.
Ellyn Carnall: Chloe and Kellie on reception very helpful & friendlyRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
daverave4: Room was clean and comfortable, was well looked after and were able to check in early when speaking with Eugene.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Quiet …More
andrew sass: Smallest hotel room ever
Kristaps Bumburs: Definitely the cheapest hotel around but not acceptable standard for anyone. Walls and ceilings were stained with paint or nail varnish, floors were extremely dirty, bedsheets were covered in some hair and sand, the extra towels given in reception didn’t smell fresh at all. Generally felt very unpleasant and wanted to leave.

Michele Jennings: Stayed for one night as we were seeing Andrea Bocelli in the Arena. On arrival greeted by very friendly staff. Very helpful and smiley. Room was cosy & clean and was good for a budget hotel. Free coffee in reception also. Food and drink in the cafe area was reasonable priced. When next at the Arena we will definitely stay here again. Nice to be greeted with a smile

Joby George: Its a budget hotel dont expect more. Good for single person to sleep at night. AC available. No luxury in room. Toilet and baths are designed like wall cuboards 😂Rooms: 1/5 | Service: 3/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Riyaad: Excellent little budget hotel. Super helpful staff especially Khairul. Allowed me to change rooms due to malfunctioning climate control and also provided complimentary coffee and breakfast as a thank you. Decided to stay an extra night; 3 in total. Great breakfast, excellent location for Ice Sheffield, simple and basic but with an excellent shower, great climate control and cosy bed. Will most definitely consider it again if in the area. Students were very noisy and inconsiderate screaming, running up and down corridors, banging on doors on the first night but thankfully vacated the next day. Sigh of relief.

Hotel Novotel Sheffield Centre: what do users think?
Daniel Ragan: It's more like a 2.5-star passable hotel rather than the "luxurious 4-star hotel" that they describe on their website...The lobby and bar are fairly nice and chique, but as soon as you get onto the dated and cramped lifts, any sort of semblance to "luxury" promptly ends. The room was spacious, but dingy with carpet ripped and pulling up in multiple areas. The room was constantly warm and the aircon was nonworking or nonexistent with a thermostat from my grandmother's house. The shower floor had a big crack in it that water was either leaking through or around the shower and creating a small pool on the carpet (don't want to even think about how much mold could be in there). Worst of all, the toilet would only flush about 50% of its contents - if you were lucky. Toilet paper would just float at the top despite any number of flushes we attempted. Just gross and disappointing. The staff were...distant, cold, and not helpful. It seemed as though they all either just finished training or didn't get trained at all. Upon check in, the person at the desk had to get help from two other people. Eventually, the three of them figured out how to give us a room number and card. I requested a laundry bag and, after going through (again) multiple people, I finally got one.The customer service was nonexistent. We had a bit of a mixup with our booking, and the receptionist seemed like they could not care less. Not even a "sorry to hear about that." Not a single smile or "welcome" - with the exception of a very warm and cheerful housekeeper.Overall, we were quite disappointed that we didn't receive anything close to the "luxurious" hotel we were advertised.Rooms: Dingy, no air con, shower leaks in the carpeted floor
Dolo Rodríguez López: The hotel was good. The swimming pool and the leisure area are fantastic. The swimming pool was full of children so avoid if you try to relax. The temperature of the swimming pool area was really warm, the area was also clean. The hotel is clean, centric and with an easy access by car and train. I would recommend it.

North London: There was overnight parking at the hotel for £15. The reception looks nice and Morden. Rooms were a basic with chip wallpaper everywhere. Breakfast was good but the cups weren't washed well enough. No Aircon and my room was too hot. There was a small pool for use but any more than 4 people would be too much. Small dark windows.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Liv Godley: My close friend and I spent almost 200 pounds on booking this hotel. We read through the policies and procedures when booking and were under the impression it would be a pleasant stay. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were informed that we needed ID. Unfortunately, only one of us had ID with us. We had no intention of drinking and simply checked into the room for somewhere to stay until the trains next day. We are both 20 years of age and have stayed at multiple hotels without facing any issues or rude management. We were denied access to stay and instead ended up having no choice but to roam the streets late at night. As two young females, I am absolutely disgusted about this and how poorly we were treated. Thank God nothing happened to us.
Aria Christian: Good view and food
Mr JG: Ms George on front desk demonstrated fine customer relations in being utterly polite, smiling, helping and cool under pressure i.e. even when queues form, she advises guests that she will be with them as soon as she finishes with the guest at hand etc. A very nice lady. Can Marie Green (General Manager) please convey my thanks.Leisure facilities were awful. Steam room didn’t work even after waiting the 15 mins after pressing the button. No shower gel in the men’s changing (hotel said they don’t supply it – the toilet hand wash wasn’t replenished until we requested).Toaster wasn’t working during breakfast (catering staff were brilliant nonetheless).Regards, Jag GognaNearby activities: Crucible for the snooker
Casa77 Setenta y siete: Great location, but pricy though. Price has gone up for next year, not booked again.
Patricia Hobson: Had afternoon tea here for my birthday is was so fresh and tasty . Served by delightful staff.Walkability: Easy to get about and very handy for snooker and theatres .Food & drinks: Gorgeous afternoon tea .
darrell copeland: ExcellentRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
Tony Charrington: I always choose Novotel as a first choice hotel, however, this one is definitely one people should avoid.I booked an executive room but I did not expect to see how broken and outdated everything is - bedside tables broken, bath plug broken, sink has an odour and plug sockets not working.Staff are also untrained and unprofessional, providing me with the wrong parking information and costing me more. They refused to help me and blamed Qpark, even though Novotel staff gave me the wrong information. There are much better hotels in Sheffield that have the cleanliness, professionalism and convenience. Sad to say that this Novotel is one you should avoid.
Apeksha Jain: Rooms are not very great but the hotel ambience is good. The service is brilliant. Loved the swimming and steam room time here.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Ernesto Salas: Good location, nice bar and very useful gym

Paul Cox: Human Waste on the bathroom floor. When advised the staff moved me to another room. The second room had pubic hair in the shower, the shower door frame was thick with dirt and grime. Marked walls, hole in the wall that had just been filled and jot painted or sanded down, both rooms were disgusting and the worst I have ever stayed in. When I spoke with the executive team they laughed when I said about pubic hair in the shower.

Annie ooney: Stayed for 2 nights, first there was confusion about booking, the the room we were given 504 was very run down with 2 camp style beds. The bathroom was very poor abd the room was FREEZING! Coldest hotel I've ever stayed in. No way did the price of £360 price of the room meet expectations. Can't see me ever staying in a Premier inn again.Rooms: Just AWFUL!

Corridors were quiet and un clustered. The room was clean, and the standard hotel layout usual complimentary hot drinks and access to toiletries. It's better than expected for a city centre hotel.Food & drinks: Breakfast was lovely buffet style hot and cold options, well stocked and hot, all cooked well, not a single complaint.
