Dana is one of the very few High Performance Sport Dietitians to achieve the “triad;" PhD, Registered Dietitian and graduate of the renowned IOC Diploma in Sport Nutrition. Marie Spano, MS, RD, CSCS, CSSD, is one of the country’s leading sports nutritionists and a nutrition communications expert. She is the Consulting Major League Sports Nutritionist for the Atlanta Braves and the nutrition coach for athletes in the NFL, NBA, MLS and other sports. She was the sports dietitian for the Atlanta Falcons (2017 - 2020), Atlanta Hawks (2009 - 2020), former Atlanta Thrashers (prior to their move to Canada) and Blackzillians (MMA).

Spano is known for solving complex problems from severe cramping to gut pain and keeping players on the field, court or ice. She treats each player as an individual and will find solutions that fit their needs and lifestyle. Spano is an expert in sports supplements, nutrient timing, FODMAPs for management of IBS, sweat testing, hydration and electrolytes, blood work interpretation and meal planning. Spano has appeared on CNN, NBC, ABC, Fox and CBS affiliates, and authored hundreds of magazine and trade publication articles, written book chapters, marketing materials and web copy on a variety of topics ranging from novel food ingredients to optimal sports performance recovery foods.

A three-sport collegiate athlete, Spano earned her masters in Nutrition from the University of Georgia where she ran the Sports Nutrition Program and her bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG) where she was a student-athlete representative to the NCAA and D1 cross country runner.
