They kept their distance so we could browse first then when they could see we needed some help they were there straight away and served with perfect service.
Rob Dann: Fixed up my bass in 24 hours! Amazing service
Sophie Rantzau: My husband is about to start learning guitar in his retirement… neither of us have a scooby doo about where to start…. Sophie helped locate the guitar we thought we wanted and got it shipped to our “local” branch in Portsmouth. Chloe, helped us with the extras that we needed and Gary, showcased us a few other guitars so we could hear the difference. These three people who sees amazing customer service. We felt so looked after and they really held our hands on this new musical path - thank you all so much :) x

I had travelled down from Cardiff on the day, and with a very warm welcome, I was offered a cup of tea (by Mike I think). Steve is your perfect host and very very knowledgeable regarding guitars. I was given a very generous trade in price on two guitars. What can I say. Customer service was superb, the best I’ve ever experienced from a guitar/music shop. Dave Parker: Here at Cash Converters. We specialise in burglaries, Granma's Jewellery, Mum's got some expensive ornaments, bring them down, we don't even mind of you don't tell her.All we ask is that you can prove your fake ID won't get us into trouble with the Police.Best of all, we'll give you to worse price possible because we know your desperate.Look forward to taking down to you
Paul Fisher: Waited 10 minutes to buy a phone spoke to 2 members of staff eventually gave up and purchased a similar phone from cash generator who staff were helpful and attentive. I know where I will go from now on.
David Hill: Great place, helpful and friendly staff
lily driver: Excellent service, came in to get a phone, wasn’t too sure what one to get but got brilliant advice and help from a very knowledgeable member of staff, Paul. Very welcoming and friendly staff, the store looks great, so clean and tidy :) great experience, would definitely shop here again, thank you very much!
craig wright: Went in Friday and bought a watch which had multiple dials to tell the time on, when I got home and set it up only realised that only one worked so returned it and was told that it had four batteries in it and all had been replaced and now should work perfectly. So I set it up and drove for day out with family. Upon checking the watch still two of the dials still didn’t work so to it back for a refund. But later I went into the jewellery shop where they had said that they had replaced the batteries only to find out that only one had been replaced ! So basically lied too. Will think again about purchasing from there again.
Andrews Antanelis: Great staff special Jane the manager absolutely amazing xxx ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fred T: Had a problem with my online order and manager sorted out the issue same day with no hassles at all. Fantastic service, would definitely recommend!
TRACY M KEENAN: Great offers good range of products no problems with them
Ale Inn: They have good things and really bad things that they try to sell as okay things.Had 1 customer service interaction and was simply horrible. Took almost 2 months to have someone look at the problem with me calling every week asking for an update(and being reassured that they would call me back with updates, which never happened). Had to argue and was taken for a fool until I came with precise and specific details (been with them for a month and they said it only passed a week at max, the boss is never in the office and he is the only one that can do anything, they promis to call you back but never do). The good was still covered by warranty and not sure if intentional or not but they fixed it right before it would expire... go home woth the fixed good, use it for another 2 months and it breaks again! Same problem as before. It seems they just patched just enough for it to work and to get me out...Well that sucks. Care when you buy couse after its sold they will try as much as possible to not help you.Edit: TL:DR worst customer service but good shop to find what you need. Staff is okay when you buy but horrible when you need a repair.Edit 2: Contacted them via email a week ago. Still no reply or any sign from them.
Brian Richardson: Great prices with good knowledge for helpWide range of products
Tom Soane: Awesome place, awesome deals! Paul Harris went above and beyond to help me out. Great company and a great member of the team.
Clint winter: Very friendly staff, and a good atmosphere. Will definitely recommend.Revisited again and will go back.
no toe: what a bunch of con artists a gold galaxy s6 edge perfect condition and they have the cheek to offer £100, and you can shove that already been offered more alot more by your competitor.
Jon: I bought an Xbox 360 last weekend from the Portsmouth Cash Converters store on London Road. I asked for an Xbox 360 slim and I was so happy when Jane the manager came back with a slim COD Modern Warefare 3 limited edition 320GB console in excellent condition for £69.99 with a controller and all the leads, even a HDMI cable and charge cable! Not only that but she then reduced the console to £59.99, so I saved money to spend on 4 great games to go with it. I'm looking forward to returning soon and buying more second hand games in good condition and at really good prices. I left the shop feeling very satisfied with my purchase and I was so impressed with the customer service I received. One week on and the 360 is working perfectly. It even makes Call Of Duty like sounds when you turn the console on and eject a disc. Very cool! Thank you Jane!
tracey Winter: Wonderful service and wonderful staff always willing to help you as soon as you step foot in there shop would definitely recommend
Fire Salamander: Been going there for years always happy with the service and the staff are brilliant especially Jane Ian and Paul very happy with the shop
infectious Breaks: Such great service from all staff members at Portsmouth over the years! The lad at the back with the glasses can share his extensive Guitar knowledge and there is nothing that he doesn't know about duesenberg Guitars and damage to the ACL!
Mary Kingsley: But better on ebay
Polo Daz: great bucnh of guys

SGL Guitars: what do users think?
Darren Prosser: So good was my first repair experience with Si I am now taking a 2nd guitar to have the TLC it needs....Following a first rate repair to my Martin Acoustic, I have no hesitation and I am taking in my Jazz archtop to be serviced.
Harv Broadhurst: I highly recommend Si. He is quick, responsive and very pleasant to deal with. Very happy with the full setup he did on my strat - it is so much nicer to play now!
Shaw Somers: First class work from a real professional. My guitars have never played better since using Simon to set them up.His re-frets are just fabulous!
Mark H: Beautiful attention to detail, great work, great prices and a great guy!I had two guitars serviced and set up by Simon a few weeks ago, a limited edition 50s hot-rodded telecaster and a Les Paul 68 custom shop historic reissue. For more than 10 years I did all my own little set up alterations because I couldn’t find anyone I trusted with them. After Simon worked on the frets, the electrics, the setup, changed the nut on the Les Paul (basically everything on both) they’re both back to singing and so easy and fun to play. The tele is better than it was out of the factory with what I thought was a good setup from the shop. And the Les Paul has the great tone, clear and growly, that it once had.Simon has breathed life back into my guitars and they are better than ever – Thank you Simon! If you’re in the South of England and looking for a luthier that is great at his job Simons you man and he’s a great guy so it feels even better when you leave a guitar with him!
Rob Norris: Simon is an excellent luthier and really nice chap too. Highly recommended
Jasmine Ross: Simon done 1st class work on my Super 400c 1968, he gave my guitar a complete re fret and I am very pleased with the workmanship. Thanks Simon! JeffSimon carried has also carried out work on my L5 1969 acoustic special, complete re fret and new bone nut and a full set up. Again first class work carried out on my guitar! Thanks Simon- Jeff
Jon Benns: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueCan’t speak highly enough of Simon’s handiwork. He refretted my guitar and did a bunch of other work that I didn’t even know needed doing (loose struts etc). My guitar now plays like a dream and sounds great with perfect intonation and action. A true craftsman. Thank you Simon.
Supa Noodle: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueSimon recently set up my new Fraser guitars T type and installed some new saddles. It plays and feels much better now. It has a really silky feel and I swear sounds better!! Highly recommended. Thanks Simon.
Craig Stevens: I bought a Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster new, and although they are very well built, and supreme value for money, it was clear that it would benefit from a proper set-up. Luckily, Simon is quite local to me, so it made sense to use him. He did a really good job, and the guitar plays like a dream, just the way you would want a guitar to feel if you had spent a lot of money on it. I can recommend Simon without any hesitation. Thanks Simon.
Richard Andrews: Over the years I’ve entrusted various guitars to various Luthiers. Prior to meeting Simon I had had a very stressful experience with another guy who had made a very bad job of my Martin HD28, rendering it unplayable. I was so upset.I found Simon’s website and liked the tone and professional reassurance. So I arranged to meet, and he assessed the guitar. He asked me about me playing style, and what I would like to achieve. He made some measurements and recommendations, and we agreed what was needed. A week later I took it in for repair/setup, and it was done in a day. Incredible! I’ve never known a service as good as this.OK, so I’m probably a bit emotional about my much loved 18 year old wedding present, and I was heartbroken when I couldn’t play it. I was really under a cloud. Now, the Martin is better than it’s ever been! I can’t recommend Simon enough. The guitar has always been magnificent of course, with legendary tone and power, but now Simon has made it SO playable I can go all evening, whereas before I would usually pick up an “easier” guitar if I was in for a session. I’ll stop now! Thank you Simon Jones!!
Tim Batchelor: Positive:Professionalism,ResponsivenessI wouldn't trust anyone else with my guitars! Professional, knowledgeable and a thoroughly nice bloke. An SGL set-up puts your guitars on a whole new level...Thanks Simon
Christopher PM: I have used Simon over the last few weeks to set up all the guitars in my stable. I'm somewhat of an novice player so I wasn't aware of how transformative a set up can be. My guitars now are fantastic and I'm playing more often than ever before. Simon is friendly, professional and trustworthy providing a high class service. I can't recommend him enough to new and old players alike. Cheers!
david martin: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueAn excellent service and Simon really knows how to make a guitar playable.
Gruffydd Davies: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueHad a nasty crack in the top of an acoustic I had ordered that had caused the top to lift. I could not quite believe the quality of the repair, any prior damage is almost invisible and it feels as solid as a rock. Highly recommended.
Aidan Mcguinness: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueAbsolutely outstanding work and attention to detail. I took my dad's 60+ Yr old futurama II for him to do his best to make playable. He restored the instrument not only to its former beauty but made it fully playable with a level of craftmanship I cannot recomend more.
Andrew Hillary: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValueI have had two guitars given a full health check and set-up by Simon and the work has been exemplary and of the highest professional standard. his prices are very reasonable and he has a lot of experience and understands how to get the best from guitars of all types. Recommended
Matt Illston: I took a used Jackson 3/4 size guitar that I bought for my son to SGL guitars. Despite being decent quality it was virtually unplayable, the action was wrong, the frets were sharp and sticking out - quite frankly it was lethal! I dropped it off the day I called him and got it back a few days later with all the frets sorted and polished, the action adjusted, new heavier strings fitted and the truss rod adjusted. Great service, quality job and fast turn around. Couldn’t ask for more.
keith maddern: Simon has done full set ups on 2 of my guitars, a stat & an Epiphone 339 pro & is a really great craftsman I cannot recommend him enough. The guitars were in beautiful & polished condition with new strings and to my playing requirements when I collected them. I have just bought a new Yamaha V112 MX & will be taking it to him for a full set up in the next couple of weeks. I will not use anyone else, that is how highly I respect his work and he is a true gentleman.
mark hulican: Did a great job on my leaving presentation from the Royal Navy. One of the lads made me a guitar decorated with bullet casings. Simon took a nice guitar and made a great one, plays fantastic
Gary Turner: Simon is a very skilled guitar luthier, always very helpful, and an all round nice guy.
Rory Hatfield: Great service. Set-up was completed earlier than expected, and with much greater attention to detail than anywhere I've used before. Most places will just set your action, intonation and neck relief and be done, but Simon also installed a neck shim and worked on some of the frets. Highly recommended if you need your guitar serviced.

Kouga Guitars: what do users think?
Susan Lloyd: My partner not so long ago took his red fender stratocaster to be serviced, the would dodgy with the jack plug when if you was to move the guitar would buzz still dose the only good thing maybe thd bridge is sort of set but for the price yea big to high for a service price
Seajay73: Never use this store again.A fortnight after leaving my guitar for repair I phoned to ask how things were proceeding and greatly surprised to be told, "It's on the bench being looked at now".I phoned again that weekend to be told, "It'll be ready on Monday, promise"....I left it until the following weekend until I phoned again (being patient)."Yes, he's just doing it now!"After a fortnight away I came back and VISITED the store to be told ashamedly over the counter "He's not got round to looking at it yet".I said I was happy playing it as was and would return another time when a voice boomed from upstairs, "WHY do you want to take it now"?"I need my guitar and you're buggering me about"-Me"You can't have it, it's up here being glued".-Andy"Can I see it?"-Me"No you're not allowed up here"-Andy"In spite of the tour you gave me?"-MeThings got heated and I EVENTUALLY left with my UNTOUCHED guitar. The string tension hadn't even been relaxed.I like having a local music store and supported this store with several (over the odds) transactions. Were a gentler person at the mercy of this cowboy, you'd be better served buying a new instrument.Outrageous behaviour and overpriced goods, but can and will tell you at length all about how awful other local music shops are.
Andrew May: Extremely rude owner.Phoned for a simple question to see if they had XLR cables, owner told me they were closed due to internal company issues, which is wholly inappropriate in and of itself. When I tried to ask if there was another store in the area that might help, as all I wanted was an XLR, he started getting angry with me, saying he didn't want people phoning him about anything work related and then started shouting that I should hang up and leave him alone, despite me having only said about 2 things over the entire phone call.If the owner has closed up shop, even temporarily, he should mark that on Google, and if he doesn't want people calling him he should probably make it so his Facebook page doesn't automatically send you a message telling you to call his mobile for any queries.
martin mackay: Excellent service, friendly very helpful and definitely the best guitar shop on stoke road 😁
Chris Mathieson: I wish I could share a pleasant experience, but unfortunately it was not. I've lived in Paris for 15 years and always been a drummer but tried to learn guutar in the past few years as its pretty difficult to own a drum kit in Paris apartment, even electric and I've only been back in the UK à few months. After staring at a guitar that I fell in love with on looks alone, Keith took the ladder and handed me the guitar. I sat down on the sofa and played roughly 4 chords before the owner made fun of my guitar playing loudly in front of the other 5 customers inside the shop. I mentioned I hadn't held a guitar in at least a year and had surgery on my wrist and he remarked "yeah I can tell" in front of everyone and guffawed. I dont mind a bit of banter but I just felt that was out of line. I was ready to walk out of the shop with that guitar but changed my mind after that embarrassing moment. Keith was a star and a knowledgeable chap. The other guy made me want to leave the shop within a few minutes. I'll get a harley benton online or a cheap ibanez or something instead.
njalst1066: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueGreat service and staff. Took my daughters electric guitar there to be restrung on her birthday, even though they were busy they managed to fit me in and i had it back in a few hours so she could enjoy it on her birthday. Very happy daughter and good value.
Shaun Jones: Very poor service, extremely rude owner who actually assaulted me when I went to speak with him to complain. Excuse after excuse don't waste your time shop somewhere else
KingSix: A wonderful selection on instruments on display, Andy & co. are happy to order in through catalogue anything they don't have in stock.I brought my 5-string banjo in to get an armrest fitted, and Andy was kind enough to lend me a beautiful 5-string banjo to keep me pickin' whilst mine was having the upgrade done!Friendly, knowledgeable staff and a relaxing atmosphere.
Giovanni Coppola: Even though it took a lot longer than planned it was worth the wait! The repair job on my 12 string is soo good you wouldn't thought that my bridge had come up and the body had swelled up! On top of the amazing repair job the guitar was step up and plays and sounds a thousand times better!!!
JP O'Reilly: Hyvibe install gone bad. Terrible experience. Took 8 weeks for them to install my hyvibe and ship the guitar to me. Lies upon lies every time I contacted them. Telling me they had shipped it when they didn't. Promised to throw in some goodies to make up for the extremely long wait but they didn't do that either. Avoid at all costs. Andy the owner just spins a web of lies and has no follow through. Hyvibe system is fine but not worth the effort, money, or time that kouga put me through. Find a different install partner of you're considering a hyvibe
Joe J: Would not recommend. Repair took over three months to complete. All contact was my me first, no updates provided. Owner can be rude and abrupt on the phone. I heard him chastising staff on the phone to me.
Geoff Heath: Excellent staff. Always ready to help.
Marilyn Hanson: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,Value
Paul Johnson: Positive:ProfessionalismThank you very very much for helping out me of a tight spot. Great service with a smile. I will be looking to support your business at the next opportunity.
Thomas Matthews: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueUsed them to sort out the electrinves and re setup my 5 string precision bass, it plays like new they did a great job. Andy does a very professional job and looks after your instruments as if they’re his own. Will be going back again.
Neil Gorton: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValueRepaired and serviced my 20+ year old acoustic Aria. What's a brilliant job, plays and sounds like new. Thank you guys. 😁👍
Breaking Bisley: Well to put this simply...I will definitely be visiting Andy and Keith again if I have any problems. So, I brought my mandolin in to get looked as it had some problems with it (being a beginner on this instrument, I felt it was likely me that caused it). Firstly, one of the problems was my fault to do with the location of my strap. The other was due to the setting (intonation) of the instrument.Aside from a decent level of friendly banter, and both Keith and Andy being very welcoming. Andy showed excellent knowledge on my mandolin. It took him literally 30 seconds to figure out and rectify the problem. At no charge too. The only charge was to rectify my strap placement, which was done for a very fair price.Once done...Andy's friendly little spaniel came to say hello aswell. Which to me, summed up the whole visit.I would recommend anyone with any musical issues to come and see these really decent guys. Gareth Williamson: Hmv commercial Rd has a wide choice of dvds and cds 💿 - BOX SETS- IMPORTS- TSHIRTS etc great place friendly staff happy to help.
Michael O: Massive and wide range of Vinyl LPs...Friendly Staff...
mick taylor: Great 👍
James Watt: Great store with plenty of vynal and CD albums. Also the staff are knowledgeable with male and female artists.
Gavin Sperring: I've been to hmv portsmouth a few times and come out with a bargain. Headphones for my boy. £20 from £60. And the staff are friendly and help when buying dvd box sets.
M.F.W. Kellermann: HMV shops used to be one of the "go to" destinations for CDs etc. The rise of the Internet has more or less killed such stores. This branch is no exception. Dirty, over-priced and staffed by people with zero cust-rel ability. Much of the stock looked old and worn. Not worth visiting.
John Chenery - Media: Not what it used to be but if your after DVDs, CDs or Vynal then it's ok plus it's got a load of retro stuff. HMV is kinda like stuck 20 years in the past!
Matías Beuter: Tenían de todo, medio caro pero muy completo.
Troy Crowhurst: Always loved my cd and dvd store. Enough said x
Maria Cole: Helpful staff. Good at finding things in back room. Just miss the loyalty scheme.
Derek Hill: Great service and helpful staff

Oxfam Books & Music: what do users think?
Zanell Neethling: Wow, fantastic shop! I was after a particular author's first 3 books, and they kindly kept an eye out and when one came in I was contacted and the book kept for me until I could come collect and pay... This is pure high class service, thank you so much, I really appreciate you doing this... Various tastes in books, of all sorts, don't be shy to ask for what you want! Amazing service, amazing shop, amazing people working there - thank you!
Peter Gunner: Friendly and very helpful staff.
