Mike Smith: I have been a patient since they opened and have always received friendly, professional, and efficient service. A high street optician exists to sell you glasses. The UoP eye clinic exists to test your eyes and also have a very good range of spectacles if required. Very highly recommended.
Fiona Fisher: I had a thorough eye test which was carried out in a professional and friendly manner and all safely done with regards to the pandemic. I was given plenty of time and advice to choose the frames. The spectacles were ready in a couple of days and I was really pleased with them. Unfortunately, I managed to put them through the washing machine pre-Christmas. The team were really quick to respond to my message for help to replace the lenses. I can't thank them enough and highly recommend their service.

Paul Hodgson: Had sight test etc and new glasses ordered on 11th April, I was told they would be ready for they collection(2 pairs) on 25th April, my distance ones were but not my reading.Back one week later, still not there, another week, told maybe one hour later, still not there, another week ,still not there. Can't use the distance ones without the reDing ones as will be doing eyes more damage. Absolutely ridiculous wait, good mind to get refund for lot. Will not use again. Been regular for years. Do not recommend at all. Now 8th May STILL NOT THERE!!!!Update..Now7th June finally managed to get my second pair of glasses which were ordered 11th April!!!After a 20min wait of being totally ignored a woman finally asked if she could help, obviously the glasses needed fitting, but I left giving up with the asian member of staff after she never even bothered to look at what she was altering on the frame, being stood 1 metre away ,didn't even look how they were fitting at all, totally useless service.I shall NEVER use specsavers again or recommend at all, quite the opposite.Now I have to go to an opticians capable of fitting glasses.So long specsavers!!DO NOT USE SPECSAVERS!!!!!!!

Mark Guest: Good range of glasses, poor customer service.I would guess it's not a great place to work as everyone appears demotivated and was treated as I was an inconvenience to their day.When choosing my glasses I questioned what they had measured as my pupil distance.I was made to feel like I was being awkward - the lady had not got it correct.She called another member of staff over who agreed the measurement was incorrect, but had to also disagree with me by a small amount, I presume to prove a point?I had mine provided to me less than 6 months ago at my annual diabetic eye screening, so I guess the NHS got it wrong and Specsavers' paper ruler measurement is more accurate?Picked up my glasses today and one pair definitely has a different prescription to the other (incorrect to what I require) as they make me feel sick when out walking - I did point out they felt incorrect while still in the store.I was told it was because I had no coating on the lenses of the second pair (good ones are Polarised)?Very little point in taking them back, as the customer is obviously wrong at Specsavers (should not have gone to...)Time to reorder on-line from Fashion Eyewear who have never let me down.Very disappointed given the amount spent.Not recommended at all.

Nicola CHARLTON: I find that vision express is very expensive and they try up sale . I went with my son for an eye test . It was recommended he had thin lenses which would cost an extra £100 pound and sun glasses .It was bad enough that I had to pay £70 for a basic lens .

Returned lady on holiday had eye test, again very professional,spoke with James, he was excellent as well, explained the prices, lens, and offers. I had to call back to pay for my order two days later, very efficient, payment taken and followed by an email. The manager was lovely and approachable, I did leave feed back for the lady on the day. He thanked me for this and he commented about the laughter in the shop, I apologise and he stated it was lovely hear. 100 out of 100 for the service, wouldn't go any where else now. Congratulations. He took the time to explain all the different options that are available, so many choices of lens, shade, style, etc and what would work best with the choice of frames I had selected. If you buy more than one frame there are grest deals to be had too. I can't fault the experience at all. Also, they can repair/change lenses of old glasses too, which the other leading highstreet brand don't do. Bonus!

Optician was really helpful explaining the ongoing issues with my vision. On collection of my new glasses they took time to make sure fit was comfortable and make adjustments.

Rachael Butler: I have been going to Anne Gill for years, all of my family have used Anne and we absolutely loved everything about it. Anne was so knowledgeable, personable and always the most helpful with anything we have needed. Everyone there were so friendly and it was always a pleasant experience and we recommended her to everyone.I went in recently and it wasn’t the same atmosphere. I think it must have been sold on as Anne and all of her team aren’t there anymore and it’s under a new name. It’s not the same anymore and I am so upset about it. I went in to have a normal eye test and to get some glasses. Firstly - the eye test was significantly shorter then it usually is and they had missed out a lot of the testing i used to have done with Anne (the ipad tests and colour tests). The lady doing my eye test was lovely and the lady on the reception, but the man sat at the seat Anne used to sit in to sort the glasses was less so. He wasn’t very friendly from the outset and was showing me glasses i couldn’t afford after i had said i couldn’t afford them. This was the first time i had got my eyes tested without my mum with me so i was a little bit clueless to the pricings etc. the frames i picked were £59 but when it went through to pay it somehow had got up to £154, £194 including the eye test which is so much more then i have ever spent on my glasses when i was with Anne. I usually paid £80 for one pair of glasses as I stick to the cheap frames. I paid it as I wasn’t sure if that was normal but wasn’t given a receipt to explain what i was paying for anything. He hadn’t asked me if i wanted any ad on’s or anti glare etc in my lenses - I am just assuming he went ahead and added that without asking.As soon as I left, I called my mum and burst into tears because of the entire experience just feeling uncomfortable and not what i was expecting. I also am only 22 so don’t have tons of money to spend on glasses, so spending £194 was well out of my budget and i felt a bit helpless. My mum said it was never normally that much money and went back in with my to get my money back and cancel the glasses.When we went back in, the man was even ruder than before, getting very defensive about me ‘accusing him’ when all i went in for was a refund. He kept saying he ‘hadn’t done anything wrong’ and ‘he did tell me it would be that much’ but still wasn’t providing me with a breakdown of the costs like I was asking for. He just kept muttering under his breathe and just had awful attitude.They gave me a refund and I left and got my glasses elsewhere.I truly felt like all the were trying to do is get as much money out of me as possible rather than actually caring about me, my budget or my eyesight. They have lost 3 customers there with my family and I will never go back. Disappointing as we used to love Anne Gill.

Ann: After having a lot of trouble with glasses and visiting my normal options I thought I would try Anne Gill and so glad I did they have found the trouble that was affecting my eyes and have just picked up my new glasses such a relief still getting used to them because of the new prescription but that takes time ,on the plus side they are made from recycled materials and I have just had a tree planted because they are eco brilliant.

Many would have told me I had to order a new set of glasses, but Anne Gill went the extra mile and checked with their supplier - who said they still had some in stock. What's more, I had the glasses again the next day. Great customer service, and an attitude that makes all the difference.

Martin Whitcher: Very professional and attentive care throughout the RLE procedure that I elected to undergo. Pre-op I was advised of the risks involved; this isn't without risk, but these operations are undertaken in large numbers now. The two operations themselves were quite brief, although there are a lot of drops required to prepare the eye for surgery. Post-op recovery has been good. 20/20 vision achieved in both eyes, although 3 months on I am still adjusting to the difference in prescription in both eyes (to enable short and lone vision). Overall, I am very satisfied and would recommend Mr Tappin and his team of healthcare professionals if you are considering this procedure. It is a joy to no longer require glasses and especially contact lenses.

Ali Molloy: The people are really friendly. But, my frames were flimsy and not great quality. My new glasses broke about 8 months after purchasing - the mechanism inside the arm snapped on their own accord. I did inquire for help, but they said that they no longer stock this brand and that it would cost £35 to fix the snapped part. I've resorted to using my older frames, which are much sturdier.I used to use Portsea Island Opticians years ago, and the service and quality was really thorough and great. It doesn't seem to be the same since I returned.

A few years ago in a routine eye exam Catherine discovered a problem with one of my eyes that I hadn't been aware of but could have led to a detached retina if left untreated. Catherine referred me to QA without any fuss and explained everything with great care. I have always been extremely pleased with my lenses and glasses from here and I would heartily recommend this opticians to anyone.

P Bhatt: We've been a customer for past three years and had no problems, but this time the customer service was so so so bad that we've told the staff (Lee Wilso) that you've lost us as your customer.I have given my son's broken glasses to them, My original query was initially handled by Lee Wilson and Abigail Grey, I was asked to sign NHS paper and I was told it will be ready tomorrow.It took them 14 days to get this fixed,Zero communication from them, not a single phone call to say the frame was out of stock and didn't arrived, I visited five times to see if they were fixed, each and every time I was told by Abigail and another chap (was wearing suit) that it will be ready tomorrow. and again no phone call/message with an update.I was really let down by their staff (named above), their attitude (to me) was "we don't care about you as a customer, if you want your glasses keep checking everyday we'll not be in a hurry to give you good customer service"When picking up my glasses after a fortnight, none of the staff were interested in offering apology or explanation why there wasn't any communication from them.I definitely wouldn't recommend to go to Portsea Island, Only go there if you want to experience "we don't care about you" attitude of the staff.I will be complaining to OCCS as well.Good Bye & never again.

juju lips: Brilliant here. They found a small tear on my eye which I had laser sugery to correct. The hospital said how well the optician done to spot it and I had the hospitals top surgen to correct it as even they had trouble to see it. Its not the most pretty shop but brilliant care and quality is more important and thats what you get. 10/10 😊

Sharon B: The eye test seemed more thorough than normal, but the optician spoke to me in a really abrupt, off hand way, literally barking instructions at me, when he was changing the lenses he was really abrupt, if I said I couldn't tell any difference between lense 1 or lense 2, he'd say "which one, I need to know which one" and get frustrated at having to give me the choice again. Then when he was trying to look into the back of my eyes he started telling me off saying "sit back" then "lean forward, put your chin on the rest and your head against the bar" then I got told I wasn't sitting back far enough again, that kept happening, then he moved the table nearer me and one of his pieces of equipment stopped working and he blamed me for touching the lead, I knew I hadn't touched the lead but I didn't argue. I just wanted that part to be over. I've never experienced anything like that in over 40 years of opticians appointments.Afterwards I had help from a lovely lady who did all the little tests in another room, she was very helpful and I couldn't fault the service from there on. I like that you get texts telling you at what stage your glasses are in the process.
