Calancombe Estate: what do users think?
sarah hill: Amazing place a little gem lucky to be on our doorstep, fabulous food and wine.We enjoyed the vineyard tour and our guide Amy was knowledgeable, friendly and extremely professional. Recommend a visit it will not disappoint.
peter carter: This is a hidden gem. Owner and staff are so happy to help you and have excellent knowledge, I’m gutted we only decided to visit on our last day of our trip to Devon because we would have happily gone through the whole beautiful menu. Stunning setting only enhanced by the people, thank you for a lovely afternoon
Claire Jordan: We went to Calancombe today for the self guided tour. It was such a beautiful place and the staff were so lovely that we ended up staying for the wine tasting and lunch. Jonathon, the chef, was fantastic …incredible food, cooking from only locally or on-site grown produce, and Amy was a fantastic front of house. Such a friendly, warm environment, not to mention incredible wines - we couldn’t believe Devon could produce such amazing grapes!. This is the ultimate destination for an all round experience. Must go! Thank you for having us.
Steve Fitzjohn: CALANCOMBE IS A HIDDEN GEM. I went on a wine tasting tour in January this year and really enjoyed a personalised tour with Lance showing me and my wife around the wonderful vineyards. Very impressive and in a beautiful setting. The staff were brilliant at making us feel welcome and creating a warm atmosphere. They were very informative with a passion for producing wine. I have been on some brilliant wine tours throughout the world but often the produce is a disappointment. Let me tell you this wine is a delight. We bought some Vintage Reserve, Calancombe’s version of champagne and some Cassis along with some fig chutney. The sparkling wine is wonderful and we have been back since to purchase some more Cassis. It is fabulous with sparkling cider. Both me and my wife drink this as a favourite tipple now. We were served food with our wine tour which was very tasty and a perfect accompaniment to the wine. We are looking forward to returning to sample something from the menu. A touch of class with a warm friendly service. To be highly recommended.
David Grindall: What a hidden gem Thank you Lance, Caroline and Amy for giving us a delightful and delicious treat with your Sunday lunch special and Calancombe wines. Your welcome and hospitality deserve an extra 5 stars.
Dave Kilby: Excellent, we had afternoon tea which was lovely and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. (A bit quiet, but that was down to the time of year).
ryan atkinson: We went to Calancombe estate on 19th February and it was fantastic from start to finish! The vineyard was beautiful to walk around and we sampled some incredible wines with friendly and interesting tasting guidance from the staff. Thank you, Lance, for going above and beyond to make us feel so welcome, we’ll definitely be back!
Adele D: Fabulous wine, especially the bubbly, and delicious food. Really enjoyed browsing in the shop/ deli too. We had a very warm welcome and enjoyed meeting one of the owners too, on a bleak but lovely midwinter Sunday. I can’t wait to return in the warmer months to enjoy the fabulous setting on the terrace, in this remote, unspoilt valley near Modbury.
Jeeva Beckett: Fabulous gem in deepest Devon. Great wine flight, generous and friendly hosts and staff, beautiful grounds. Will be back soon! Thank you for taking such good care of us. J
Amy Nicol: Best experience ever. The staff have been incredible - 10/10 customer service and so accommodating. Ollie and then restaurant staff have been wonderful - want to move here and join the team! Thank you for a unique, informative, relaxing and wonderful day. Amy & Eleri
Nicola G: We chose the self-guided tour around the vineyard which was a wonderful way to learn about the estate and its crops whilst taking it at our own pace and enjoying the tranquility of our surroundings. We met Lance, one of the owners, who was very welcoming. Our tour was followed by a fantastic wine tasting and lunch prepared with ingredients straight from the garden. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon and only a short drive from where we were staying at The Land in Modbury. We hope to return to do the gin experience!
Richard Dale: Absolutely first class experience. Stunning arrival, beautiful set up. Quality wines and very unique. Excellent owner and staff. A wow.
Jane Steane: A huge thank you to Olly today for allowing us in, even though closed. You went above and beyond with tasting, information and generally being helpful. Thank you for letting us purchase too. Will definitely be back soon. Highly recommended.
Linda Sever: Wonderful place, delicious food and excellent wine. So lovely to talk to Caroline, Lance and Andrew their talented chef, who have worked hard to create something special. A lovely peaceful setting, this vineyard is a must visit for everyone who enjoys good food and wine. Take a tour or just go for lunch. We are so lucky to have them in the SH's. Follow the one way system, oh and they do gin too!
ben humphrey: Fantastic local vineyard with delicious food and very knowledgeable staff who are happy to talk you through the wines as required. Very reasonably priced bottles to take away too. Has to be a regular venue to visit when in the area. The Gins looked interesting upstairs too.
Adrian B: A really friendly welcome with an informative and interesting tour. Guide and winemaker Ollie shared information about the estate, growing, harvesting, fermenting and bottling. The wines were lovely, fresh and smooth. With cheese and hams also available. Highly recommend relaxing day out.
Julie Rowdon: What a hidden gem!!Had friends visiting the area so thought would book a self guided tour as a last minute thing!….. we were not disappointed, very clear audio guide around the vineyard giving a great insight to the industry. We were then greeted by the wonderful staff and talked through a number of wines!!It’s clear the owners have a passion and have done a great deal of research into producing a delightful range of products!Already plotting to visit again!!
Lucy Parker: We booked a self guided tour last minute and could not be happier! They had recently developed an app which contains videos explaining the vineyard, and asked us to try it out for them - it was BRILLIANT! Explained everything in enough detail but without overloading you with information. We did the tour and then tried lots of their products which were all delicious. The owners are very attentive to everyone and so friendly, going above and beyond to ensure you had a great trip. Great value for money and would definitely come again.
Claire Handel: Highly recommend lunch and wine tasting at the idyllic Calancombe Estate. We had a beautiful afternoon here - really interesting tour, fantastic wine (particularly the rose and sparkling wine!), cider, and cassis, delicious lunch, and super hospitality.
Colin Stephens: We had a truly wonderful time at the Calancombe Vineyard Estate. Fantastic wine tasting with a beautiful lunch to follow. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly making our visit very interesting and that bit special. Brilliant award winning wines showing the very best of English wines in a lovely setting. A great day out and would highly recommend to anyone looking to sample some great wines 🥂 👍 😊
Caroline Walker: Had a lovely wine tour, tasting and lunch for my birthday treat. We were made to feel very welcome with a friendly and knowledgeable team, the wines were super and an impressive set up. Can't wait to go back!!!

Jacqueline Nicholls: Great environment. Friendly staff and good food
Naomi Gerber: Fantastic food in a beautiful setting with wonderful customer service. The flavours of everything we ate were absolutely divine!
Gordon Craig: Our 4th visit. On a grey and cold December day. For roast Sunday lunch. Food excellent, wine good obvs. Staff did a great job as it was fully booked and they were one member of staff down, so we'll done to them. They did a marvellous job.
Paula Aguiar: Excelente experiência explorando os vinhos espumantes e Pinot Noirs ingleses. Super acolhedor.
Maureen Raud: Spoiled by our kids we went for a blow-out Sunday lunch with snacks, bubbly, 3 course meal with wine! Phew! Absolutely delicious and possibly the best, friendliest service ever. Hal was a superstar! The surroundings are lovely too. If you have the energy after your meal you can follow the walks that are signposted around the place. Definitely one to come back to!
Raymond Hill: I can see why this business is thriving. Very pleasant surroundings and excellent selection of wines.
Michelle Concannon: Lovely new setting, great wine tasting menu & foods to compliment
Lorraine Thompson: Lovely food and very reasonable prices.
Roger Hanley: Rather pretentious. Tiny portions. Every thing came with 'Lacto' this, 'Lacto' that'. Which was a slither or slice of fermented vegetable. Service is fine. The welcome "just a moment I'll see if we have enough food" was one of the more unusual meet and greets I have had.
Tim Bishop: First class wine tour and tasting and super host.Lovely wine brought home as well.
Quentin Lister: We had a fun and informative visit to the wine making facility. Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke with an obvious passion for her job and the wines that are produced there. Highly recommended.
