Derriford Hospital Emergency Department: what do users think?
Stephanie Ann: Incredibly unpleasant admin member of staff with a grey bob who wore black scrubs, its a shame when clinical staff work so hard and you were quite frankly rude and unpleasant towards me. Why work in this profession without an ounce of compassion 🤷🏻‍♀️
Stephen Kincaid: After an excellent service from the ambulance crew to whom at my home address for three hour in depth investigation👍 Advised me to go to the plus hospital group. There was a hospital appointment made, at this department doctor was concerned as I have a device fitted in my chest and was getting transient pins in needles from the right side of my body as I have congestive heart failure advisory was to make my way to accident and emergency to Derriford Hospital (😱). Taxi over to Derriford arrive there roughly about 22:50. I booked in and explained the situation and was told to wait. After an hour and a half doctor came out. Told everybody you wouldn’t be seen for at least another seven hours for those who can see there doctor do so and for those go to chemist be advised to do so. I previously had an experience of 34 hours in A&E and gave up. I decided to go home because I’m not doing 34 hours again, so that was another taxi home nightmare. So I contacted my doctor surgery today absolutely no help so whatsoever told me to go back to A&E . They need to take A&E out and away from Derriford Hospital make more use of the Cumberland Centre and the plus hospital group.
Meha .A: This is a small aquarium with colorful fishes, in the pediatric emergency department of the hospital to cheer up the sick children
Joanna Ba: Staff were amazing, I can't fault them. Very helpful, amazing care . But waiting time, the worst I have seen. 7h in total. 6h waiting to he seen, 1h to get medication!
Karim Chiti: The worst hospital in the world
James Day: Amazingly attentive staff.
Jay “Jay”: Thank you to all the staff at Derriford A&E! My other half went to A&E with excruciating abdominal pain along with other symptoms. Triaged, regularly seen, X ray / blood / urine tests done and results had, IV drugs we needed as a result done. All done within 6 hours - impressive. Everyone we saw was lovely and efficient, they really listened. Staff doing their very best in impossible circumstances - it’s not their fault they’re over worked and vastly underfunded by the Government.
Paige Gibson: the A&E department including resus, reception and majors were absolutely incredible, after struggling for years and being told my symptoms were all in my head the Entire A&E team listened to me, reassured me, took me seriously, ran the correct testing and within 3 hours had a diagnosis, treatment plan & referral to a specialist in place- I will always hold gratitude towards those who treated me as now I finally have answers and can get the treatment I need to make my life that little bit easier!
Charles Molyneux: Great staff doing the best they can, really stretched. Bring a good book and a pillow.
Jo: Having being taken in for a potential bleed on the brain, 20hrs later im still sat here. Triage i was in and out in 20mins, then 6hrs later i saw a dr, who was very thorough, then 4hrs later a CT scan and remaining 10hrs waiting to speak to a neurologist - still waiting! Luckily CT scan clear but i havent been offered anything to eat, nurses say theyll look into wait times for everyone that asks but theyre just too busy to do it. X7 ambulances waiting outside, absolutely nuts! We need another hospital🏥
Rani Singh Shergill: id give it no stars if there was a choice. receptionist Sadra was very rude no people skills at all. parking is next to nothing. system in this place is backwards.
morris57552: Took my wrife to a+e 14/7/22 as she was referred by her gp. While I was there I found that you can not drop off at the entrance as this whole area seems reserved for ambulances only. The drop of point for injuries in on the pavement on the road. I had to drive through a no entry sign as this seemed the only way to get to the a+e entrance. My wrife hobbled in to find every chair taken and many people were sitting on the floor. Patients had to resort to hiring wheelchairs but if you did this they were asked to wait outside. After 4 hours she was seen buy a nurse who said she n needed antibiotics intravenously as her leg showed signs of septicaemia and that she would probably have to wait another 16 hours at least. She asked me to take her home which I did and we will let nature take its course. I stress that the staff were great but the conditions they work under is terrible.
Alexis & Co: This has to be the worst A&E in the world to ever visit. You visit the A&E cos it’s an emergency but you wait 24 hours before a doctor finally attends to you. The staffs have little or no regard for how you feel. Ridiculous. You would probably be dead before you are seen.
Alex Carstea: 16 hrs waiting time.. this is the plague
Helen Wraight: Having heard horror stories of long wait times I was apprehensive about going in (after being referred by the Cumberland Centre with a ruptured achilles) , but have nothing but praise for the amazing team on this morning. From the ladies who greeted and assisted me at the entrance to the two nurses I saw (one of whom wheeled me out and waited until my husband collected me) were outstanding. Thank you.
Matt Fernandez: Thank you for helping me with my Achilles rupture today, much appreciated.
Sally Field: Omg where do I start rang 999 for my mum waited 3 hours one paramedic came said she needed to go to derriford but no ambulances the only way was for me to take her in my car how disgusting that's only the start at 2am raining we had to get my dying mum into our car to derriford on arrival it was unbelievable about 25 ambulances in the car parks waiting to go in a and e the paramedics just laughing and hanging around in each others ambulances went to reception miserable receptionist no compassion awful mum eventually went into majors but people lying on floor lying on seats taking up seats being sick young girl crying omg my animals are treated better trolleys absolutely every where it was chaos literally chaos and very frightening to thing this is how you are treated when you are at your most vulnerable
Joseph suter: This is a shining example of how flawed the NHS is, great staff but its run terribly.
Louise Penny: Absolutely awful. Sent to A&E by 111 for my 12 week old baby, only to be told by them to join the back of the que!!! Disgusting especially for a young baby. This NHS needs serious help.
Iris M.: 8 hours waiting time for emergency services? Abysmal.
Nik Burgess: I came out of hospital on 22/7/21 21.30on the 23/07/21 with stats of 76-80 iwas taken in by 999call out we arrived at 19.30 got in to the ed department ar 21.30 after sitting on a trolly for nearly 3hours being on oxygen from18.30 a hospital bed was found xray was done seen by nurses and hca over night did not see a doctor till 10.30 by 11.30 I was told I was on my way home as oxygen levels raised well in body taken of oxygen started to arrange transport home when told change of plan being keep in and put on iv antibiotics.went up to ward at 18.00 first food given to me since 18.30 as no suitable food avaliable on ed just 2cups of orange juice in 23hours with myself being dibetic To wrap up this review not enough bed spaces in ed not enough doctors or staff due to covid track and trace rulings staff run of there feet not enough beds in mau or in the rest of hospital ideally the nhs needs to build a new general hospital in North Cornwall to take up the growing amount of houses being built as it a choice of truro hospitalWhich is 50miles away or over worked Plymouth hospital.

Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth: what do users think?
Nanette Holliday: Very good service, surgeon very good.Nursing team excellent. Food great and exceptional service.
Paul Lower: My Brother, Andrew has just had a left hip replacement. From start through to the discharge I have to say has been excellent.Such a calm atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, it makes a huge difference at a very stressful time. Our greatful thanks to everyone.
Jan Matthews: First visit today regarding hip replacement. Not overly impressed can only hope things improve- not convinced at the moment.
Glyn Wilcox: Really clean, helpful and friendly
Dave Ackrell: Just returned home from a full knee replacement surgery done by consultant tomasz wudeki and his surgical team, who were all wonderful people, I would also like to thank all the other care staff, every single person that I came across were very kind and friendly, they obviously love their job. I can’t find the words to describe how grateful I am to every person at practice plus
Gill Ross: My husband had an emergency 111 appointment with Dr Fiona this morning Thank you for all you did for him. Brilliant so grateful.
Margaret Fisher: Had total knee replacement last October while there staff nurses consultant wonderfully friendly even though they are overworked. As for any follow up that has been non exsistant . Had to chase physio up as well so after care let you down. And that was going privateWell I did get a phone call because of feedback left ,was told I would get a phone call appointment and a letter to confirm guess what that never happened either , I would of probably got a better service with NHS bet I don't get any compensation payment
Gwen Wyllie: Very friendly and efficient
Garry Murphy: 1st visit was fantastic. Calm relaxed atmosphere with very efficient staff.
Tony Dell: All of my appointments and procedures have been carried out very professionally and with care.
Debbie Cope: I very recently had a total left hip replacement and have previously had my right hip replaced here too. The care is second to none and there is an air of calm, friendly, warm efficiency within the hospital. I feel extremely fortunate to have had access to this hospital, to Mr Wudecki and his Team and to the wonderful, caring nursing and physio team. The process from the very beginning to the end was highly professional. My sincere thanks to you all.
Michael Berrill: Not impressed with the start of my process for hip replacement I hope I get better results soon. Watch this space.
Jason Osborne: Outstanding care and service. Seen quickly and wasn't rushed. 10/10
Jane Phillips: Just had a right knee replacement. The nurses are amazing. 20 out of 10. Everyone very helpful, patient and kind
U Muller: I came in for revision TKR and must admit I was dreading the experience somewhat because of what I had gone through before in a different hospital. This time, all my fears were put to rest by amazing staff and calm premises. As for staff, specialists as well as nurses, cannot fault them. Everything was a really good experience under slightly tricky circumstances and I felt completely at ease in the hands of doctors with regular visits, friendly, kind and well-trained nurses who couldn't do more for you, and very, very good physio staff who knew the difference between being too pushy and helpful encouragement (which was very important in my case). I ve had some horrible experiences in the past, but this so far - 1 week post op) has more than made up for all the trauma I had to go through for years (even had edible food). I wanted to express my gratitude here to all the staff, as well as my relief so that others might benefit, too. Highly recommend. Thank you again.
Linda Fowler: Had a hip revision on the 23rd June at Practice Plus Plymouth. I cannot praise them enough, from admissions through to all treatment that I received was really excellent. It made a very anxious situation for me a really good experience. The staff were amazing, the surgery was excellent , the care & kindness shown towards me was soooo lovely. Thanks guys for everything. I am now on the road to recovery all thanks to all of you lovely people. 💖
Karen Duffy: Professional, clean, great staff
Tristan Lang: Total hip replacement on 28th March 2022at Plymouth. Enthusiastic happy team right across the work force. The communication from initial consulation to op was superb. Mind put at rest, great after care and all round great set up, thank you.
