Elizabethan Gardens: what do users think?
Matthew Young: It is nice to have a secluded, peaceful little place to go and sit. The place was clean and tidy, had benches and a fountain.
Anto nella: Such a hidden gemI will strongly recommend to anyone who goes to the barbican to pop in.A nice place to take your cup of coffee, seat and relax.
Jo Sparkes: Just lovely. Really gives the feeling of what such a garden was like several hundred years back. You'll also discover some nice places to eat on the same quiet street.Only challenge was the concern that I'd somehow snuck into someone's private garden.
Donald Gregor: Serene beautiful
Dave Smith: Historically a beautiful part of the city.
Lucy: So pretty and well cared for, an oasis of calm
Briga Honda: Incredibly beautiful hidden gem, small but very impressive garden, it is free to visit.
David M Bath: Exciting to find being surrounded by buildings - tranquil and pleasing.
Georgette Harris: Absolutely GORGEOUS little find. I've lived here for 4.5 years now (after visiting for 27) and have never visited until yesterday. It's like a magical secret that Plymouth has kept well hidden for the sake of preservation and better still; mystery. It took my breath away when I first saw it. Due to its secretive nature it remains clean and unspoilt by those who may not appreciate historic hide aways such as this. The little arch way makes for a romantic kiss from your partner underneath it and welcomes you to explore the carvings etched into the walls (see image 2 of the ship). It backs onto some of the most historic buildings in Plymouth on the famous Barbican which literally means 'fortitude' and to know surprise given how well everything is protected and preserved. Highly recommend visiting this mysterious and yet welcoming suntrap of a garden where you will learn of its and the surrounding areas history!
Sean: Small door to a quiet garden with long history
Laura 1997: Great historical place to visit as well as food and drink etc.
David Phipps: What a beautiful little spot to take a book or a coffee
Aaron Simpson: For me, the Elizabethan Gardens are one of the best kept secrets of the Barbican, and perhaps Plymouth more widely. It has long been one of my favorite spots to reveal to friends and family as the perfect spot for an afternoon’s escape, romantic walk, or an opportunity to sit among something historical and significant.Sequestered through a narrow entrance, the gardens open up like the gateway to another world, revealing blossoming flowers, centuries-old stonework, and a pond that can often be teeming with frogs, pond-skaters, and other wildlife - in the right season.Guests will be amazed at the sheer difference a few meters can make after leaving the frequently loud and tourist-filed streets of the Barbican to the quiet serenity of the maze-like design of the gardens.I would recommend locals as well as any and all visitors to the area to take the opportunity to find a moment’s respite in this beautiful and historical part of the city.
Dr C. Mansfield: We have started to take our Masters postgraduates here on a guided walk which we designed in November 2019. The Sutton Harbour Walk begins beside Jury’s Inn hotel on the steps at the top of Moon Street.
francis morris: Elizabeth Gardens are a breath of fresh air when you just get in the zone. Let go your in your own garden you could have just baked the lottery & walk around YOU'RE GARDEN. 😉
Mor Ges: A hidden gem, usually quiet enough for to take a few minutes reflection. 2 minutes walk from the Mayflower steps.
Nikki Robbo: Beautiful place
Charles Hexter: Great place to stop and take in the world
Andy h: Beautiful place so much history
David Saunders: Beautiful and serene historic garden.
Ashley Davies: It's a lovely place to sit

David: We booked a tour through Invitation To View, so we were shown around the ground floor of the house and the garden by the owners. The garden is absolutely beautiful and the views over the river are spectacular. This was all finished off with a delicious cream tea.Well worth the trip.
Adam Owen: A stunning period house and garden. A private residence with viewing by appointment or on advertised open days.Set with a glorious vantage point of the River Yealm valley the steep gardens display plants and trees from around the globe, with some particular mature exotic species.
