Burghley House Gardens & Deer Park: what do users think?
Francis Francis: Wonderful
Julie Perrin: This place is amazing the house is beautiful, really enjoyed my visit would definitely go again.
vicky miles: Went as part of an educational visit with my workplace. We toom a tour which was very informative,Dog-friendliness: Saw many dog walkers using the grounds
bowiewhist: Very chilly March day and a just over one hour drive from home having pre-booked for house and garden. New car park being built but in the meantime rather rutted spaces under trees to stick the car and am stroll to the new atrium that is used for the welcome.Ask to have the guide the paintings! We were not told there was one until much too late. There are dozens and it would help to be able to see who painted what, when and what is featured. There is a projected guide featuring actors representing some of the Earls in the first room upstairs by an odd little room of curios but then you cross a courtyard into the main house. It is cold and we felt for the room guides who must have been very chilly. Up to this point I felt 4 stars were likely but then the house is so unusual I upped my score. The tapestries, furnishings and paintings are of such quality it is incredible. We were told some of The Crown TV series was filmed here - much needed revenue keeping this money pit going. Extremely nice staff everywhere. This is such an incredible plus point! We ate at the Orangery which had most of its best food offers finishing by 11.45am so lunch choices were rather few. Our belly pork sandwiches were quite hard to tackle but tasty with good chips. Then we went off for a yomp but directions are poor so we rather missed our way to the Lion Bridge and then got to the ha ha and there was no way round but to come back. No deer that we saw. Next stop the formal gardens. I found the centre of the mirror maze, enjoyed the water features and time pieces. Less enamoured of the sculptures - the daffodils and other flora were superior and we looped back to the second shop and a cafe where we had tea and cake. Shop prices a bit steep and cake slices over £5 but it is clear where the investment goes. A good day out which we made cover 5 hours. Not a great deal for children. Wonderful history and craftsmanship on display. 4.7 rounded to 5 stars.
Jason: The gardens are well worth the visit on a nice sunny day
Libby Harrison: Fabulous experience if you like history and fabulous paintings
Kia Went: Gorgeous walk with accessible paths. Baby changing facilities and accessible toilets in multiple places. There is a lovely cafe and garden to access and whilst OK with buggies (thick gravel), it might not be accessible for some wheelchairs. Lovely place to visit and see the deer!
Amanda Carroll: A favourite local place to go for on-lead dog walks. The deer are lovely to see and generally quite far away, so not too much of a worry dog wise, nor a safety concern when I've been. The cafe and little shops are nice and there is loads of parking. I find it useful for dog training purposes as it is about as civilised as it gets when it comes to other dogs and their people!A privilege to be able to visit for free and a must do if you are local, whether you have a dog or not. Also great for families as kids can run round in enormous space. Not too bad for access as you can park near the house (sometimes a bit of surface level mud/stones as this is the country!), have a short wander around the front of the house and look over the grounds - push chair and elderly/disabled person friendly.Restrooms: Good but mostly only open in the daytimeDog-friendliness: Very popular dog walking spot, but strictly on lead only. Lots of space for using a long line though. If your dog has a particular interest in deer then be careful, but they are generally in the distance so my dog didn't even notice them.Picnic area: There is a cafe and a plant selling area, not sure if there is seating there for picnics but there are vast grounds to have a picnic on the grass and some nice big logs.
Rebecca Tarrant: I love this place especially at Christmas time
Stephen Lightfoot: Love this place. Very relaxing. Obviously better when the weather's good.My Happy Place
Lynne Powell: This rating and review is for the Burghley House Christmas Fair. The Fair was fairly lack lustre and, in my opinion, the draw was the spectacular location. There was a tremendous mark up on the price of goods especially in the Burleigh House Christmas shop. However, we did buy some very reasonably priced items. You just have to look at several stalls before making your purchases. We enjoyed lunch in the Orangery Restaurant; two paninis, two glasses of Shiraz and two panacotta with choc chip cookies £43.00.I would definitely return to visit the house, grounds and the town of Stamford but would not visit the Christmas Fair again.
Zak: What a beautiful place , the Christmas fair on was great , had a lot of stalls food was great atmosphere was spot on will be going back next year
Allan Scattergood: The Christmas fair was lovely. I had lamb stew from the on site kitchen and it tasted great. My experience of the house and deer park in summertime is very positive. Steeped in Elizabethan history it is well worth visiting
Lynda Simpson: fantastic place to go. lovely walks
David Mcgrath: Restrooms: CleanPicnic area: Clean
Penny Bowley: We went to the Christmas fairDog-friendliness: Saw loads of dogs
Carole Dyehouse: Always a lovely place to visit. Open spaces, small shop, cafe, restaurant all making for a welcoming place to stroll and relax.Playground: No real play space with traditional equipment but there are trees and logs to climb and a sculpture park at a cost.
GEOFFREY BARRETT: Lovely House clean and tidy, and we'll informed by staff
Ewa Bialka: Must see
David Marzell: My 4th trip to Burghley and each time it gets better. You learn a little more. The staff are so knowledgeable.
Chris Vincent: Very beautiful house and gardens. Quite expensive but worth it.
