In her youth Jodie was a former competitive long-distance runner and horse rider. After a series of accidents and injuries she gave it up to study psychology and became a school behaviour psychologist for overseas government schools. She continued to be active but had reoccurring pain, eventually a final accident left her unable to walk for almost 9 months.
