Sarah Brooks Independent French, German and Spanish Language Tutor: what do users think?
freya houston
freya houston: A late review, however more accurate in retrospect. I was undiagnosed and unknown to have ADHD at that time and Sarah was brilliant teaching me to learn Spanish in various unconventional ways, knowing that the way at school clearly wasn't working for me. I went from low end grades to finishing my GCSE with a B (which was amazing for me). Thank you Sarah :)
Poppy Lile
Poppy Lile: Sarah is a fantastic teacher who is very patient, fun and engaging. Her lessons are always effective and greatly entertaining! They make me excited to go to the next lesson. She has made me much more confident in speaking French and she helped me through all my mock exams. I have made so much progress with Sarah and can't recommend her enough.
Tom Glenn
Tom Glenn: I had a lesson weekly with Sarah for a year and without the lessons I would've really struggled to get a good grade in Spanish. Sarah helped me fix my problems and develop things I didn't previously understand to ensure I was comfortable with what I needed to do to be successful. Sarah has been hard-working enthusiastic and supportive throughout the year and I can't recommend her highly enough. Sarah helped me be ready for my mock exams and after the cancellation of my real exam this has been even more important to me as it's meant I could still achieve the grade I want and I wouldn't have been able to do it without Sarah.
Izzi Grumi
Izzi Grumi: So helpful and very encouraging, used to barely be able to speak Spanish and always thought I’d fail it but with Sarah, she has made me much more confident with it and over the past couple years she has tutored me, my spanish has improved massively and would recommend Sarah to everyone x
Rue Leverland
Rue Leverland: I can't put into words how much Sarah's guidance and tutoring have helped me through my GCSE's. Sarah is a lovely bubbly tutor who is always positive; there's no need to nervous as Sarah makes you feel right at home. I am very appreciative of Sarah's confidence in me right from the start because by the time I got to my GCSE's I was confident in my own ability. So much so, I could go into my exams believing I could do them well. Not only did Sarah help me majorly improve the French ability I had from school, but she made it fun, with all the games she has that make you forget you are even learning.I cannot recommend Sarah more, she is an excellent choice.Thank you again, Sarah, for everything.
Luc Murphy
Luc Murphy: Sarah gave me German lessons for 8 months leading up to my A Level exam. I plan to study German at University and needed to improve my verbal skills and confidence to ensure a good grade.I cannot recommend Sarah highly enough. From the start, her lessons were well planned and engaging. She always went to great lengths to ensure I had understood each lesson and provided additional work for me to practise at home. She is very good at communicating complex grammar structures and simplifying them in a way that is easy to understand and put into practise. Within a few months, my confidence and ability had greatly improved to the point where I felt very comfortable walking into my exam.Sarah has given me the skills I now need to take German forward to University. If you need a German teacher, Sarah should be your first choice.
Peter McKinlay
Peter McKinlay: I have been taking lessons with Sarah for the last two years and I highly recommend her. Sarah's knowledge of the subject is excellent, her lessons are enjoyable and engaging, she's significantly raised my confidence with speaking and writing in a foreign language. If you need a tutor for yourself or your child definitely get in touch with Sarah.
Abigail Lakey
Abigail Lakey: Started lessons with Sarah at the start of year 11 and could barely count to 20 but after only a year I really enjoy Spanish and I’m hoping to do it at A level which I would have never dreamed of. I Recommend Sarah to anyone whether they’re a beginner or even want to improve their conversation and speaking skills.
Chloe Kunz
Chloe Kunz: I have been an Alevel German and Spanish student of Sarah’s for the last 2 years and can not recommend her enough! She has helped me to develop my skills and performance to an extent where I’m now predicted to achieve A grades, which definitely without question could not have happened without Sarah’s help. The amount of extra work and support she gives is extraordinary and she will do whatever it takes to help you and teach you in the best way possible. If you are struggling with GCSEs, Alevels or simply want to improve your ability then I would give Sarah a 10/10 recommendation, she is the best teacher I have ever met and will always make you feel at ease in such a friendly learning environment.
Holly Lakey
Holly Lakey: I cannot express in words how incredible Sarah and her teaching methods are! After getting a D in AS German, I urgently needed help and couldn't have asked for anyone better. Sarah helped me gain an A in my a level speaking exam and B's and C's in my resits. Thank you so much and would recommend Sarah to anyone of any age☺️
Cath Jarvis
Cath Jarvis: Sarah is a fantastic, motivating teacher whose positive approach to teaching french meant that my son actually looked forward to his lessons! She also helped us navigate the complexities of the GCSE process. Totally brilliant...
Jess Woodward
Jess Woodward: Sarah helped me for two years with my German A-Level and was absolutely brilliant! She's fantastic at what she does and always ensures that her lessons are fun, enjoyable and relaxed. She's a very lovely and very funny teacher who has helped me grow so much in confidence. She's amazing
david stanton
david stanton: hi , im a mature student that has been learning german with sarah for the past 9 years , I've gone from counting up to 10 to reading german broadsheets, writing essays and conversation german on many many subjects, my level of knowledge of the german language is often complimented on when i visit germany , yes I've put the hard yards in ,BUT the level of patience ,understanding and teaching from sarah is outstanding .we have covered so many subjects to enhance my german language skills they are too many to mention , if you're thinking of private tuition look no further ,sarah is the real deal .
Elizabeth Eyre
Elizabeth Eyre: I am one of the students Sarah taught throughout my GCSEs last year. In the first year of my GCSEs I really didn't like german, only getting C's and B's on my controlled assessments, but after starting to go to Sarah's in the second year I started to improve; first with an A on my speaking and then an A* on my writing! Although german has never been a strong passion of mine and I still didn't really like it in lessons, I did enjoy going to my private sessions with Sarah once a week. She made the language easier to understand, she was enthusiastic and she would also play fun games :D .If your son or daughter doesn't enjoy doing a language or really struggles with it I would highly recommend Sarah as a tutor.
Simon Wilding
Simon Wilding: Sarah has been teaching German to my colleagues and I over the last months. She brings energy and passion to her teaching which is a pleasure to see.To be honest I find languages difficult but Sarah's approach is fun and engaging.I feel that if she can teach me German then she is truely an awesome teacher!
Will Hinde
Will Hinde: Sarah has taught my 15 year old son weekly for the last half term. Sarah teaches him using techniques that make French interesting and pertinent to him. Sarah's enthusiasm and energy are infectious and my son genuinely looks forward to his French lessons. In the last half term he has gone from a C to a B we are so pleased with his progress, fantastic!
Fiona Horne
Fiona Horne: Sarah visited us in July to deliver training to myself, a secondary specialist, and 4 primary colleagues. The purpose of the training was to bridge the gap between KS2 and transition to KS3. There was no question that Sarah was the person to do the job, as she had delivered 4 amazing training session to myself and other secondary specialists through the academic year. This sessions did not disappoint! Her training has helped to totally change the way I teach and I know that this is the same for my colleagues, both primary and secondary. Her sessions always invigorate my enthusiasm for my job. I can't recommend her training enough!
Michael Pickles
Michael Pickles: We are learning Spanish with Sarah, who is is an excellent teacher, very patient and just brims with enthusiasm, provides loads of imaginative aids to use to gain understanding and fluency!
Nick Morton
Nick Morton: My 12 year old daughter attends extra tuition with Sarah once a week for an hour. She was finding it hard to settle into Languages at her new school so we asked around and Sarah came highly recommended. From the start it immediately boosted her confidence in French and she now says how much fun it is compared to her secondary school teacher!Sarah is patient and plays lots of language games to with her to keep her engaged but makes them be their best. She also gives awards to motivate, and my daughter was over the moon when she got Student of the Week!If your child needs a bit of extra help my daughter says she's awesome. Can't get better than that!

Alex Russell
Alex Russell: I attended this school as a student from around 2010. I joined this school with a diagnosis of ADHD and Autism.I am now 24 and finally understanding what it was I was going through at school. I had been stuck in a pattern of behaviour that, in hindsight, should've been immediately noticed, especially due to my close contact with the SEN team. 12 years later I am finally able to understand and make progress. My opinions and requests were regularly ignored and I was forced into a cookie cutter plan. This involved forcing me to sit with an assistant in class, which made me a prime target for bullying. I regularly brought this up and made it incredibly clear that I did not want or require it, and the effect it was causing. No efforts were made to understand or improve my mental health issues. Instead I was regularly moves to "isolation". A small room where students could be put out of the way and forgotten about. From the get go I was relentlessly bullied. This has had ongoing effects on my confidence and mental health and has had lasting repercussions in my life. The year I left this school Rod Goldswain had been made acting Head Teacher. This was a change, but for me, not pleasant. This man is incredibly proud, and not on the positive way. He came across as much more interested in the schools and his outward facing image than he was in the underlying problems in the school. He made it his mission to have anyone deemed a "problem" removed from the school and often had a less than professional relationship with his students, where he would show favouritism to those who actively made the school look better, whilst holding long lasting grudges against those who crossed him. To have such thin skin and fragile ego is not a good quality, especially when working with teenage boys.
Boss
Boss: Amazing school,infinity opportunities.
David Todor
David Todor: This school is so amazing
Balamir Hague
Balamir Hague: I went here when I was a teenager. The bullying situation got so bad for me that even a couple of the teachers took to ripping on me. Nothing was ever done about it.The school produces good grades, but that's because they'll do their best to filter out anyone they don't think will perform well in the first instance. I was also forced to take extra curricular activities I didn't want to take and was given detention when I didn't attend them.Any decent parent wouldn't even consider it an option if they knew what it was like on the inside.
bsccollins
bsccollins: I attended the school between 1952 and 1958. I still remember my days there with gratitude for the education I received to equip me for a happy and rewarding life. Still working full time in 2021!
AJ
AJ: Let me think... academic wise the school excels in that field if you're ready and willing to be taught you will get the results you strive for. Be humble.Per my experience there in regards to bullying that sort of things will only stop if you actively go and ask your form tutor on what you can do and where to go to get it dealt with. If it's a thing you've noticed early on deal with it early on. Be observant.Honestly none of the teachers are bad at teaching but they all do have their individual quirks when teaching; some might over explain and go off on different tangents unrelated to the lesson, some might not explain enough what you need to do. They're all humans so feel free to like certain teachers more than others just keep your rebuke about them to yourselves and let the lessons go on, stopping the lesson hurts everyone. Be patient.Female students (sixth formers) and teachers, guys they're here to teach/learn don't treat them any differently to how you'd treat other male peers and teachers. It's unnecessary and in the outside world shocking as it may seem there are two genders and if you can't coexist in the school, in a relatively controlled environment, I sincerely wish you luck in the real world where there is the LGBTQ+ community and other races. Be respectful.Having borderline respect toward everyone in the school and outside the school takes you a long way, cliché as it may be, you might not realise that now but in the future honestly you will be thankful. Also if you start in year seven....it's an unspoken rule to just pick on you down to the slightest thing. All in good fun you get your turn. Have fun. Make mistakes. Learn from them.

X.Wyatt82YT: Great school. get a place early

Facilities are outstanding with in house gym, swimming pool, dance studio, huge playing fields, and a fully fitted theater. Well oversubscribed so get your child's name registered early.

Andrew Peacock
Andrew Peacock: Northampton School for Boys is a great school academically, however they do not deal with bullying in an appropriate manner. I have been bullied for the 3 years I have been at NSB, and no 'real' action has been taken to prevent this from happening. At times, some of the teachers can be rude, and also struggle to understand a students' points of view on a particular subject. The management at NSB is not great either. The teachers don't know what's supposed to be happening, and where! Overall, I would not send my kids there when I grown up.

Alexis Geek
Alexis Geek: Teacher's and facilities are good generally. However, the students are very poorly behaved. They will constantly bully shy, 'alt' or people that aren't like them.Unless you own the best things, blindly follow everyone and hide your true self, everyone will pick on you for it and tease you continuously. It's a shame that it's just the people that go there ruin everything.

Freddie Fudge
Freddie Fudge: Let me tell you about Jill Green - Primary Office Manager. My partner has been for a tour of the school and the lady (not Jill Green) was really lovely and polite. So much so that my partner insisted we try and get our son in there and even relocating for that school.I phoned up today to request information and possibly book in a tour myself. After 3 attempts i found myself speaking with Jill Green - Primary Office "MANAGER". The conversation went as follows:Me: i would like some information regarding sending my son to your school, as my girlfriend has been for a tour and was really impressed.Jill: The admissions lady is very busy with reception year admissions, but if i take your name, your sons name and also a contact number, she will TRY to get back to you in the next few days.Me: That sounds great, my name is Freddie - F.R.E.D.D.I.E.Jill: IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY OF SPELLING FREDDIE?Me: Yes, some spell Freddie with a Y.Jill: UMMM I DON'T THINK SO.I then gave my sons name and contact number then ended the call. Now, i might be a bit over sensative here and please excuse me if i am. However, i don't feel it's right to be spoken to in this manner by a "MANAGER".I have also looked into the sliding scale of Ofsted reports and noticed the following:Overall effectiveness - Requires improvementEFFECTIVENESS OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT - REQUIRES IMPROVEMENTQuality of teaching, learning and assessment -Requires improvementPersonal development, behaviour and welfare - Requires improvementOutcomes for pupils - Requires improvementEarly years provision - Outstanding16 to 19 study programmes - Requires improvementOverall effectiveness at previous inspection - GoodAs you can tell by this long winded review i am absolutely fuming at how i was spoken to by Jill and i will be sending this exact review to the headmaster who will hopefully provide me with an explanation.Freddie.

Skye Hatton
Skye Hatton: So basically, this school was amazing from year reception, up to year 6! I must say the teachers I used to have were incredible, well there were some exceptions. Anyways the school do give you a great learning environment, its up to the students to make their experience good! I however no longer go to this (not for bad reasons, simply because I lived to far) BUT I do recommend this school as they are wonderful with supporting/helping In any way possible.i hope for whoever comes here, that you have a wonderful time, make many friends that are loyal, bond with the teachers, and i can guarantee that you will want to relive this school experience! Two things i miss are the teachers and my friends. i hope for parents possibly reading this, that you find happiness within your childrens hearts! 3
Oyin Akintunde
Oyin Akintunde: Amazing school
Shadow Freak
Shadow Freak: This place is amazing, and I'm not just talking about the facilities. The staff are very kind and thoughtful, and the teachers all have their own unique teaching styles. One thing to note about this school, is the designated support unit for students who struggle with everyday work and activities. Even those with disabilities, who have their own, special learning area. The support staff in the DSP, or Designated Special Provision, are very kind and caring for those who are in the DSP unit, and try to help the students out as best as they can.I say all this, because I was once a student here, and despite being annoyed with a lot of things, I actually enjoyed it here. And I still miss it.

kook asf
kook asf: i honestly appreciate the fact that DRET are trying to give us, students a better education. But being successful isn't only having a good handwriting, good grades etc. But its also about a good mental health, and yes i know school tries their best on making the MAA the best school in northampton. Unfortunately there has been quite a few too many changes over the past 2 months, i know it seems childish but it really does stress the students out. Maybe we should have more time to process there rules, and DRET should understand this that we cant be perfect. The bag rule, i understand it. Its for our safety, but we should think of the dangers of it, People could trip over the stairs and fall down, which thats very dangerous. Roll call, yes i understand the rule but is there really a specific reason more then "trying to calm us down" ? The freshly made new rule, now we cant have lunch with our friends, Students do suffer from anxiety and we do struggle to make friends. Thats a bit really hard for us. Thank you so much for reading this review and thank you dret for protecting us. Please do not get offended, that wasn't my intention at all but try to speak up and share my opinion!
