David Williams: A truly awful experience.They have a very devious tactic of trying to upsell a reduction in the insurance excess which they've set at a scary £1700 for any damage!I don't like this tactic and the hard sell that goes with it. There are more worthy hire companies out there, so avoid these sharks if you can.

Anthony Richards: Went to buy wood screws from B&Q I've never been there before finding the hardware department in total disarray The product's had been removed from there package and boxes were torn apart with products obviously stolen and not replaced. It took me 20minuets and still didn't find what I was looking for which was decking screws I went to a member off staff to complain and was told that the whole wharehouse was in total disarray not just the hardware department I left dont think I'll be returning

Steve Antipolo: April 2023The Northampton branch makes no physical concession to disability. No disabled parking, no ramp. Disabled people are told to park elsewhere and get public transport and walk.Vehicles not properly checked either so, make a proper investigation. Not easy for me as I am disabled and I couldn't bend down to check low or get up to look high. My van had quite some damage and an electrical fault.I may be able to drive OK (in a lot of pain) but, just some disability arrangements and do not presume all customers are fit as a fiddle just because we're legal to drive.I asked them to change some scheduling and she totally worked with me. In person I had a very professional yet personable service.Previous reviews:Now, this is my second car and both have issues with tyre pressure. Just like the last one, all over inflated yet one considerably less than the others, I wonder why?This car has a higher than expected average mileage and it feels like it. By that I mean it's pushing 16k and I honestly don't think I've ever had a rental so heavily used before. But then, it's a 2019 model so, to be expected. Picture included.First rental was a BMW which was ok though we tyre pressure issue. With the BMW it's annoying because settings are not stored because for that I'd need to be a BMW member and signed into the car. It's annoying as I suspect it would remember eco preference and store that setting but it doesn't.With both cars, and I know it's pretty but we perhaps reset the system between users. For example, I couldn't add my phone because it already had 6 users, I had to remove them myself. It really doesn't take long to do the reset.
Daniella Baranowski-hart: Pick up and car all good, 1 day later (Easter Sunday) oil light comes on. We call and without being told what's happening we are put through to a breakdown service.When we returned the vehicle we were told it must have been our fault and due to the way we were driving the vehicle.Never heard such nonsense in my life, extremely insulting. When asked when the 22 point check was done, we were told 2 days BEFORE we collected the car, and no mention if it was hired in between time.Seems to us that providing you don't have any problems it's ok hiring from here but the customer service at this branch is amateurish at best, will be paying pennies more and getting better service at competitors in future.
Richard Deans: First of all, the greeting experience was ok, although we had to wait almost 15 minutes before being seen, and then it was rushed, and I had to take pictures outside of the office in order to catalogue the marks that I found on the vehicle that weren't listed on the disclaimer. The side door constantly jumped off of its rails when used and needed special attention to close, a fault that wasn't mentioned at the initial hire time...But more importantly, it takes you way too long for you to release the deposit money given in the first instance... I have hired with many other companies, and by far this is the longest I have had to wait for my deposit back... I cannot recommend you for this reason... so far it has been a week and I still haven't recieved my deposit back... is this attributed to the returns process...?Next time I will hire from Enterprise again... they honestly don't mess about with people's money like Europcar do...

I then wanted to pick it up early, which again was no problem.Van is clean and ready to go. Really happy with service.Some of these reviews appear to be with insurance companies or Europcar central, not necessarily the guys at branch!

Samantha Meakin: Booked a van online for 12.30pm, got there a few mins early, was told van not ready so started the paperwork process which was ridiculously long, also there’s hidden fees that you’re not told about when you book online so what should’ve been £66 turned into £339.00 the excess was £1500 but if I paid an extra £19 they could get it down to £250??? 20 mins later van ready. Used the van and brought it back the next day, unfortunately there was a chip in the windscreen (it was ridiculously windy that day) that I hadn’t noticed so could’ve happened before pickup or during use? The chap on the desk told me that would take the whole excess amount! After a lot of heated discussion he put the paperwork through and then exclaimed oh it’s only saying it will be £70! I should hope so just for a chip! Never using this company again……run by clowns who don’t know what they are talking about!

Not much good on a commercial vehicle!As for my business discount, I couldn't get that to apply and the same happened for another offer which we never received the email for (done independently).

Iba: Absolutely avoid at all costs. The car we got was in rough shape which we could notice right away. I've never been more worried about a service that is supposed to be helpful, not stressful. Car had some issues on the last day too. They are closed on Sundays so keep that in mind when you book!
Charlotte Horvath: I actually feel bad for the staff. We booked a car online to arrive and find out there was no car available. There’s also lots of hidden costs you don’t get told about when booking. Like over £100 for an additional driver. Or the £700 fee. Oh and we paid £28 up front to secure the booking which I’m sure we will never see again. I would avoid this place like Covid! Trying to hire a vehicle has never been so stressful. It should be an easy process. It definitely is not. The company needs to sort out how it runs, customer service and making it an enjoyable experience. Not just concentrate on the bottom like.

Aidan Ward: Rental end of July. Not a great experience on collecting the vehicle (booked M9 9 x seat MPV). Booked on line with no problem (not the cheapest by the time you hire all the extras such as CDW, windscreen cover, tyre cover….) but on arriving the vehicle we were to be given had numerous issues which I spotted on a pre hire check: 1: vehicle dirty outside and inside, in current COVID 19 conditions this did not appear to have been cleaned effectively at all. Other competitors I have used in the past offer a higher standard of cleanliness (eg Enterprise, Avis) even pre COVID. 2: tyres were close to legal limit of 1.6 mm (x 2 were really close). 3: Screw or bolt seen in the tread of one tyre (easy to see on any quick visual inspection) 4: One of the 2 washers was missing for the windscreen washers (construction and use/MOT fail, so any roadside check this would have been an issue). The vehicle looked tired and had quite a few bodywork defects. Initially there was talk of me taking this vehicle down to a tyre fitter in town to replace any faulty tyres (4pm on a Friday!!) (me doing it!!!), with staff saying they had nothing else but in the end another vehicle was sourced which was sat in the compound, which Jeff kindly washed outside beyond his finish time of 4pm. This was only because I saw this in the compound and suggested this should be the alternative. If I had been the branch manager I would have tried to apologise for the inconvenience (we were there 90 minutes) but nothing; desk staff tried to be helpful but if the system isn’t very robust what can they do?So, if (big if) you hire from Thrifty: make sure the vehicle is roadworthy, go over it really carefully and make sure also you assess for damage and that it is accurately recorded. Pre hire checks not being done properly. Deposit returned in good time, no problem there. However, I won’t be using Thrifty again!

Ryan Brown: They say every business is great until there is a problem and Thrifty are no exception. They took money from my card for fuel I had replaced, both Birmingham and Northampton branch accepted the error but can I get the money back, have rang now 4 times with promises but a month later nothing. Beware...don't give your card details...very poor and dishonest. Complaint now lodged with Volvo who arranged this...really poor show and unnecessarily time consuming.

Jay Tresadern: 4 times I've booked a car from Thrifty, each time a new problem. This time the website allowed me to book a car to drop off same day in Newcastle at 5pm on a Saturday. On turning up to collect the car at midday in Northampton and check our booking we were then told the Newcastle branch actually closes at 12.30 and reopens Monday - not helpful when we fly out on the Sunday! Luckily Enterprise have saved the day.

Mitchell Essom (Mitch): This was my first experience hiring a van, and it was easy and convenient. We moved from Northampton to Somerset so it was a couple of days of back and forth moving furniture. I booked online, popped into the office which is situated in the Holiday Inn, this did confuse me initially but I soon found it, and there was a quick check and scan of my licence and passport and the relevant checks were completed quickly and efficiently. I was given the key the day before and picked the van up early morning myself out of hours, again this was easy just went into the car park and drove off on my way.Overall good service and would definitely use again! The LWB van was a massive help to us and a comfortable drive!
