The Role
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Research Associate to work on an ESRC New Investigator grant focusing on child-focused and health promoting prison visiting systems in England & Wales and Scotland.
You will undertake longitudinal qualitative research and analysis; contribute to co-production approaches and documentary analysis; meet project milestones; prepare papers for publication; and disseminate findings to a range of audiences in different formats.
You will work with local, national and international research and policy partners such as Families Outside, NEPACS, the NIHR Applied... Research Collaboration North East and North Cumbria (NENC), HMPPS, Clinks and Pact.
This is a part time post (0.8FTE), fixed term for 2 years.

Key Accountabilities
1. Undertake longitudinal qualitative interviews and analysis, using creative strategies where appropriate (such as life grids, photo-elicitation, drawings, letters/diary extracts) with justice-involved families.
2. Support the planning and delivery of qualitative documentary analysis focusing on how prisons across England, Wales and Scotland have responded to COVID-19 restrictions in relation to social visits.
3. Wok with justice-involved families and policy and practice partners to co-produce a child-centred, rights-based framework of prison social visits.
4. Prepare application for ethical review of the project and associated documents.
5. To contribute to the day to day running of the project.
6. Carry out high quality applied research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard.
7. Prepare papers for publication, and disseminate findings at conferences as required
8. Ensure that research activity and data is consistent with current research governance instructions and Data Protection legislation; ensure that research activity and data management meet the demands of new instructions and legislation as these come into effect and keep appropriate records
9. Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the projects
10. Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in research methods and other transferable skills.
11. To contribute to the activities of relevant research infrastructures regionally and nationally.
12. Work with relevant stakeholders including members of the public to ensure research is relevant to their needs.
13. Carry out administrative and teaching tasks and other duties to support the institute as required by line manager

The Role
The School of Medical Education (SME) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and suitably qualified doctor for the role of Clinical Research Fellow. This post is suitable for a doctor who is seeking to develop a clinical academic career in clinical education research. The salary will be matched to the equivalent current NHS salary.
You will be based within the School of Medical Education at Newcastle University. You will deliver research activity, register for, and complete a PhD (under staff regulations) in an area of clinical education, which fits with the School's strategic... plan for research. The subject area will be developed in discussion with the postholder, but current areas of research in SME include graduates transition to practice, selection processes (and aspects of widening access in medicine), new approaches to assessment and innovation in teaching/learning. As part of this role you will be expected to contribute to the wider teaching, scholarly and professional activities of the School. The research commitment will equate to approximately 8 sessions, with education delivery accounting for the remaining 2 sessions.
The post is suitable for a doctor who can demonstrate a commitment to medical education. You should have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be passionate about advancing the discipline through high quality research outputs.
The appointment is full time, but less-than-full-time and flexible working arrangements will be considered.
The post tenable for 4 years in the first instance.

The Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment (HBBE) is a £8M initiative between Northumbria and Newcastle Universities funded by Research England’s Extending Excellence in England (E3) scheme. The Early Detection of Neurodegenerative diseases (EDoN) initiative is supported by a grant from Alzheimer's Research UK and Gates Ventures to harness the potential of digital technologies to detect distinct dementia-causing diseases at their very earliest stage. The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant/Associate to join an experienced research team within the Population Health Sciences Institute to work on a project aiming to understand co-occurring alcohol and mental health problems amongst older people, and develop holistic, age-tailored and integrated approaches in local primary care and community alcohol and mental health services.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Cancer Research UK programme funded work on histone demethylases (KDMs), a class of enzymes involved in epigenetic signaling. Dysregulation of some KDMs is strongly linked to cancer and some are proposed as current therapeutic targets... Despite the emerging biomedical importance of KDMs, substrate selectivity and the biological roles of KDMs are far from clear. We aim to carry out comprehensive functional assignments of JmjC family of KDMs, at biochemical and cellular level, and to develop and characterise inhibitors against epigenetic proteins.
You will join the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, and work on the project in collaboration with the University of Oxford. You will have an excellent track records with interest in chemical epigenetics to join our interdisciplinary team.
This is a full-time, fixed term position for a duration of 24 months.

The Role
Working with the Universities of Newcastle, Northumbria and Cumbria, Children North East, the North East Child Poverty Commission, and our partners at the Department for Work & Pensions, we are looking to appoint a research associate or assistant to work as part of our multi-disciplinary team.
The project is a pilot study that will use multiple qualitative methods to explore children and young people's (12-16 years) awareness of Universal Credit and its' impact on families and households in the North East & North Cumbria... Study findings will help policymakers understand children and young people's views and experiences of Universal Credit, to ensure the voices of children and young people are represented in policy making.
You will be a talented research associate or assistant trained in qualitative methods. Your main role will be to undertake the day-to-day running of the study. This will include organising and co-facilitating advisory groups with young people and our wider stakeholders, developing topic guides, liaising with partners to co-ordinate recruitment and sampling, carrying out interviews and group activities with children and young people, and contributing to analysis and writing-up in collaboration with the research team. You should have experience of conducting high quality applied health research. Experience of using arts-based methods (e.g. graphic vignettes, storytelling via drawing and writing, graffiti wall activities) is also desirable.
To be appointable at Research Associate level, you will hold a PhD and have significant qualitative research experience.
