The museum has restored and preserved beautiful historic spaces such as the octagonal courtroom and subterranean cells. New spaces have been created, including glazed links providing rooftop views, a new basement gallery for flagship exhibitions, and a renovated ground floor with a learning studio, gift shop, and café.

Visitors can admire the stunning Georgian architectural flourishes, ornate chandeliers, and gold leaf in the fully restored Assembly Room. This breathtaking room hosts cutting-edge art installations throughout the year, offering a unique and immersive experience for visitors.

Visitors can start their day with barista-made coffee and pastries, enjoy hot and cold lunch options in the Courtroom, and indulge in tempting cakes, freshly baked scones, and speciality teas at the café. The café offers locally sourced ingredients and a variety of delicious menu items.

The museum is wheelchair accessible with lift access to all areas except the historic Cells. The Courtroom includes a priority seating area for wheelchair users. There are accessible toilets on both the ground floor and first floor, as well as exhibition text available in large print. The nearest Changing Places toilet is located in a nearby car park.
